LaVerne V. Fultz
Odessa - LaVerne V. Fultz, 73, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born Feb. 19, 1932, in Lynn County to her parents, Barcus and Ileta (Cook) Standefer. She married
Calvin Fultz in 1948 in Lynn County. She moved to Odessa in 1962. She was raised in Tahoka, where she went to school and later married
. She worked at Texas Instruments here in Odessa for eight years and had been a seamstress for City Cleaners. She loved sewing and crocheting.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and two grandchildren, Jody Parra and Chad Claburn.
She is survived by her four daughters, Carol Claburn and Leta Pitzer and husband, Monte, both of Odessa, and Janet Callarman-Nugent and husband, Jim, and Judy Falcone, both of Houston; her two brothers, Hubert Standefer of Troy, Mo., and Benny Standefer of Odessa; 10 grandchildren, Kelly Parra, Shona Cooper, Amanda Hornbuckle, Janice Wood, Eric Callarman, Samantha Pitzer, Jessica Pitzer, Scott Cherry, Brian Cherry and Joey Cherry; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Family visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m., Friday, April 8, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Barbara Sue Johnson
Odessa - Barbara Sue Johnson, 65, passed away at home on the morning of Friday, April 1, 2005, after a lengthy illness. She was a resident of Odessa for over 30 years and a long-time member of the Tanglewood Church of Christ.
She is survived by her two daughters; six grandchildren; and three sisters.
Per her request, she was cremated and a private family memorial will take place at a later date.
The family asks that whomever wishes to make donations to the American Heart Association in her name as a memorial gift.
The family wishes to thank the many members of the local medical community, who gave such wonderful care, especially Dr. Ram Kolluru. They would also like to thank her church family, who was so involved in her care and support.
James Everett Morton
Odessa - James Everett Morton, 78, of Odessa, passed away on April 5, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born on May 15, 1926, in Russellville, Arkansas. James married
Letha Knight on July 23, 1944, in Reno, Nevada.
James is survived by his wife, Letha Morton of Odessa; sister, Anna Sissom and husband, Calvin, of Modesto, California; sister and brother-in-law, Marie and Homer Pittman of Odessa; brother-in-law, Melvin Knight of Sacramento, California; sons, James A. Morton and wife, Jouree, of Cibola, Texas, Richard L. Morton and wife, Gloria, of Odessa, and David M. Morton; seven granddaughters; and seven great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. today, April 7, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Terry Wright officiating.

R.C. Edward ‘Ed’ Scoggins
Midland - R.C. Edward “Ed” Scoggins died Tuesday, April 5, 2005, of lung cancer.
He was born Feb. 24, 1930, in Sweetwater to Johnnie Dee Boyles Scoggins and Archie Marion Scoggins. His Mom was a homemaker and a great mother, who adored her children. His dad was a carpenter. He had a close and loving family. He had a younger sister, Dorothy Scoggins Mazac and a younger brother, Alton Scoggins. After his mother died, his dad married
Zella Hambright Scoggins, who was a blessing to the Scoggins family.
His family moved several times when the children were young, then settled in Midland. Much of his extended family lived here including his maternal grandparents. His paternal grandparents lived in Stanton. At a very early age, Ed sold newspapers in downtown Midland for the Midland Reporter Telegram. He liked to talk about his customers and how nice they were to him. He continued to work for the paper for many years. He also was employed by Foremost Dairies, The Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and Gandy’s Dairies. In the early ’60s, he started work with Hurt Exterminating. He eventually bought the company and was in the pest control business, until his retirement in 2001. He was active in the Permian Basin Pest Control Association and served as president. He also served on the state board of directors in the Texas Pest Control Association. He spent about nine years in the Texas Army National Guard in Midland. He attended Midland High School.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother; his older brother. William Scoggins; and his stepbrothers. Ronny, Darrell and Ernie Hambright; as well as his grandparents and aunts, uncles and other family members.
Ed is survived by his wife of 48 years. Dolores F. Wilson Scoggins of Midland; his daughter. Sharilyn D. Scoggins Gunn and son-in-law, J. Michael Gunn of Odessa, and his son, Steven E. Scoggins of Smithville. He is also survived by his sister, Dorothy Scoggins Mazac of Midland; his brother, Alton Scoggins of San Angelo; his aunt and uncle, Shirley and Calvin Scoggins of Stanton; his sister-in-law, Kathy Hambright of Midland; his stepbrother, Ray Hambright and his wife, Ana, of Midland and Robert Lee; his sister-in-law, Shirley Scoggins of Garden Grove, Calif.; his sister-in-law, Karon T. Wilson of Lubbock;
his brother-in-law, Joe L. Wilson of Montana; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Karen Carr and the entire staff at Allison Cancer Center for the excellent care during Ed’s illness. Also, a sincere thanks to the caring, compassionate staff of Hospice Midland and Hospice Midland In-Patient Unit.
The family will receive visitors 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. today at Ellis Funeral Home.
His cremains will be interred in a private family service at a later date.

Kathleen Joyce Smith
Odessa - Kathleen Joyce Smith, 74, of Pilot Point, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at Presbyterian Hospital in Denton.
Visitation will be at 7 p.m. today at Slay Memorial Funeral Center in Aubrey.
A graveside service will be at 2 p.m., Friday, April 8, at Ector County cemetery.
Kathleen was born July 16, 1930, to Arvil and Lucille Graves. She married
Durwood Smith Aug. 27, 1950. She was in the banking industry in Odessa.
Survivors include brothers, Tommy Graves and wife, Joyce, of Euless, Jim Graves and wife, Wanda, of Weatherford, Donald Graves of the Houston area; brother-in-law, Ben Smith and wife, Joy, of Denton; sister-in-law, Peggy Moore and husband, Ben, of Humble; and several nieces and nephews.

Juanita Young Black
Odessa - Mrs. Juanita Young Black, the first of ten children, was born to Rev. George B. Young and Johnnie Lee Young on March 9, 1928, in Fort Worth. She married
Tommy E. Smith. To this union, one child, Tommy E. Smith Jr., was born. In 1963, she married
Milton Black. To this union she has one daughter, Sheree Goodman, one stepdaughter, Judy Zimmerman, and first cousin, Eartha Davis.
Funeral Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Greater St. Johns Baptist Church with the Rev. E.J. Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her father; mother; one sister, Levora Smith; and three brothers, John L. Young, Albert Young and Edward Young.
Juanita leaves to cherish in loving memory her husband, Milton Black; one son, Tommy E. Smith of Oklahoma City; three daughters, Sheree Goodman and husband, James, of Waco, Judy Zimmerman and husband, William, of Killeen, and Eartha Davis of Denver, Colo.; two sisters, Laura Jenkins and husband, Robert, of Missouri City, and Bernice Harris of Waco; three brothers, Aaron Young of Houston, Rev. George Young and wife, Betty, of Fort Worth, and Willie Young and wife, Shirley, of Waco.

Linda Gutierrez
Odessa - On March 29, 1949, Linda Gaye was born as a gift from God to Vinita and Jack Price in Oklahoma City.
She attended public schools and graduated. She and her family relocated to Odessa, where she made her home. Linda was fluent in signing for the deaf, something she learned at an early age to assist both her parents, as they are both deaf. She loved being a homemaker, taking care of people, also being a wife, a mother, a sister, an aunt and a friend.
Linda was a Christian first and utmost, then on April 5, 2005, she closed her eyes went to sleep, God checked his list and saw her name. He whispered in her ear it’s time to go and she said so soon and he said I need you and she said okay in Jesus name I’ll go anywhere with you and he took her softly and sweetly with not a whisper she was gone.
She leaves behind both her parents, Vinita and Jack Price; the love of her life her husband, Ramon “Raymond” Guiterrez. Her heart and love one son, Louis James Hazen; a brother, who she loved and fought for till her last breath, Jack Thompson; two sisters, Margaret O’Neill Hardwick, who she cared for and loved dearly, and Brenda Thompson, who she loved also with all her heart.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Chapel with Dan Gonzales officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Julia Faye Price, who died in 1950; and her nephew and niece, Jordan O’Neill and Memori M’Shae Hardwick were in her every thought and she also loved them dearly.

Clara Pauline Breeding
Odessa - Clara Pauline Breeding, 78, of Odessa passed away on April 6, 2005, at Midland Memorial Hospital. She was born on November 27, 1926, in Hamlin, Texas.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Sterling Jones and Martha Jones; her first husband, Francis M. Parsons on December 15, 1966; brothers, Jack Sterling Jones, Elmer Houston Jones and Troy Wayne Jones.
Clara is survived by her husband, Earl Franklin Breeding; sons, F.M. “Jay” Parsons and wife, Rhonda, Sterling Stewart Parsons and wife, Donna, and Richard Dewayne Parsons and wife, Debbie; daughters, Patti LaTane Breeding, Sherri Lynn Bredemeyer and husband, Brady, Mindy Wright and husband, Ed, and Misty Breeding; sister, Annie Ruth Shafer; sisters-in-law, Wanda Jones and Sandy Jones. Clara is also survived by 23 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
There is a visitation scheduled from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today, April 8, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Enrique Hernandez Brito
Odessa - Enrique Hernandez Brito, 63, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born March 4, 1942, in Ojinaga, Mexico to Jose and Marcelina Brito. He worked as an industrial insulator. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Carmen Brito.
He is survived by his son, Evelio Brito and wife, Rosa, of Odessa; daughter, Maria Brito of Odessa; parents, Jose and Marcelina Brito of Odessa; five brothers, Edmundo Brito of Calif., Jose Brito II of Mexico, Felipe, Omar and Alonzo Brito, all of Odessa; sisters, Lidia Medina of Odessa, and Celia Acosta of Monahans; and six grandchildren.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Uecker officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.

Winona Lorene Livingston Mabry
Odessa - Winona Lorene Livingston Mabry, 88, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2005, at her residence.
Winona, the oldest of four children, was born March 22, 1917, in Neal, Kan., to Stephen and Fredricka Livingston. She married
Robert Mabry on Sept. 5, 1941, in Chickasha, Okla. Their earlier years were spent in Oklahoma, Colorado and Louisiana, before settling in Odessa in 1951. Winona was involved in raising her family, volunteer work, and many organizations. She joined the Friendship class of the First Methodist Church in 1952. She also was the pianist for the Men’s Bible class for 28 years. She was a member of Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary for 28 years. She also was a member of the Eastern Star and Social Order of Beauceants for 26 years. She played the piano for a variety of social events throughout the years. She was an avid bridge player and has played in a large number of bridge clubs.
The most important part of her life always involved her husband, family and friends. Before Robert’s death, many pleasurable hours were spent on some lake or river fishing with friends, J.D. and Johnnie Davis.
Winona was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Mabry Dec. 4, 1987; her parents; and sisters, Gertrude Davis and Roberta Barritt.
She is survived by four children, Bobwina Brown Phillips and husband, Kenneth, of Orange, Judy Pearce and husband, Gerald, of Sterling City, and Bruce Mabry and wife, Reta, and Gloria Clarke Bell and husband, Michael, both of Odessa; eight grandchildren, Melissa Sartain, Marcus Brown, Christy Reece, Kimberly Mabry and Linsey Mabry, all of Odessa, Shannon Eason of Big Spring, Gary Pearce of Fort Worth, and Brandy Dillon of Dallas; 10 great-grandchildren, Kaylea Sartain, Macy Sartain, Jacob Brown, Courtney Brown, Brian Brown, Justin Eason, Blake Eason, Zachery Hanson Pearce, Aiyana Carroll and Olivia Dillon; and her sister, Minta Riddle of Pharr.
Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Phillips, son-in-law, officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Rev. R.E. ‘Raymond’ Owen
Andrews - Funeral services for the Rev. R.E. “Raymond” Owen, 81, of Gardendale, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 10, 2005, at McNett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Richard Owen of Lufkin officiating. Burial will follow at the Andrews Old cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home of Andrews.
Raymond died Thursday, April 7, 2005, at the Hospice House in Odessa. He was born Aug. 15, 1923, in Drumright, Okla. He married
Dorothy Wilburn in 1945 in Drumright, Okla. Raymond had pastored churches in Oklahoma and Texas, including the First Assembly of God in Andrews from 1968 to 1977.
Dorothy preceded him in death, while he was pastor in Andrews April 26, 1976. Raymond married
Jeanie Wright April 24, 1992, in Gardendale. They owned and operated the Vacuum Cleaner City in Odessa, before retirement.
Survivors include wife, Jeanie Owen of Gardendale; son, Rev. Richard Owen and wife, Dianne, of Lufkin; daughters, Janie Kelly and husband, William and Janet Miller, both of Odessa, and Juanita Kelley and companion, Johnnie Dyer, of Gardendale; brother, Carl Owen and wife, Nadine, of Bartlesville, Okla.; sister Ruth Carroll and husband, Frank, of San Antonio; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Mode, in 2002.
