Cordia M. Mitchell
ODESSa - Cordia M. Mitchell, age 99, longtime resident of Gardendale, passed away Saturday morning, July 2, 2005, at her residence.
She was born June 24, 1906, in Hope, Ark. She loved gardening, sewing and was an excellent cook. Her favorite pasttime was fishing.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Loyd A. Mitchell and her son, Verdo A. Mitchell.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Rosemary and Gene Everson of Granbury, Texas; her son and daughter-in-law, Weldon and Janice Mitchell of Bruce, Miss.; grandsons, Bruce Jowell and wife Theresa of Fort Worth, Texas, and Lee Mitchell of Hawaii; granddaughters, Michele Fraley of Tennessee and Mary Ann Barnett and husband Billy of Georgia; several step-grandchildren and nieces and nephews, along with many, many, wonderful friends.
A family visitation is scheduled for 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, July 4, 2005, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with Charles Tapley of First Baptist Church of Gardendale officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.
Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Gardendale.

Yvonne Redden
ODESSA - Yvonne Redden 86 of Jal, New Mexico passed away Thursday, June 30, at her residence.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am (MST) Tuesday in Jal, N.M., at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Larry Cox officiating. Interment will follow at the Jal cemetery. Her body will lie in state at Family Services Funeral Home in Kermit. The family will receive visitors from 5 to 7:00 pm Monday at Family Services Funeral Home, 911 East School Street (Tommy Thompson Blvd) in Kermit. Services entrusted to Frank W. She was born February 2, 1919 in Ellsworth, OK. She married
Willard Lee Redden in Durant, Ok. on June 20, 1935. She owned and operated the Jal D Bar Drive In and Yvonne’s Restaurant in Jal for 22 years. She is preceded in death by her husband Willard Redden, two brothers and one sister.
She is survived by her daughters Omega Wainscott and husband Sam of Granbury, Sue Scott of Midland, Joy Foster and her husband Rod of Littleton, CO. and Barbara Davis of Tomball, two brothers Selby McMurtrey of Lonegrove, OK and Pete McMurtrey of Durant, OK, one sister Alva Walker of Whitesboro, 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Julia Atkinson
Odessa - Julia Atkinson, our loving mother, passed away July 6, 2005. Her whole life was dedicated to hard work and loving her family.
She and Blue Atkinson owned and operated Comet Cleaners until 1994, when she retired at the age of 75.
In 1986, she began oil painting and found a creativity that produced many beautiful paintings that we all enjoyed. Her house reflected her artistic talent in gardening, painting and decorating. She was energetic, hardworking, honest and stubborn.
In her later years she was stricken with Alzheimers, that robbed her of her personality, humor and memory. Mom slowly slipped away and we are grateful for her care that she received from Home Hospice and Hospice House.
She is survived by her sons Denny Atkinson of Arlington, James Atkinson of Odessa, daughters Tracy McLarty of Odessa, Debbie Phillips of Odessa, sisters Anne Jager of Connecticut, Helen Kochick of New Jersey, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 10:00 am Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating.

Cameryn Cahlyn Hernandez
Odessa - Cameryn Cahlyn Hernandez, infant daughter of Jeremy Christopher Hernandez and Lisa Amber Bearden-Hernandez of Odessa, Texas, was born June 23, 2005, and passed away on Monday, July 4th, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
Cameryn is survived by her sister, Azlyn Hannah Hernandez, 3-years-old, of Odessa, Texas; maternal grandparents, Josh and Nancy Lisle of Odessa, Texas; maternal great-grandmother, Alene Lisle of Olney, Texas; paternal grandparents, Ruben Mancha Sr. and wife, Alicia, of Post, Texas; paternal great-grandmother, Faye Horton of Hobbs, New Mexico; paternal great-grandparents, Guadalupe and Candy Mancha Sr. of Odessa, Texas; paternal great-great grandfather, Lupe Mancha; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Infant Hernandez is preceded in death by her maternal grandfather, Richard C. Bearden; maternal great-grandparents, Victor and Ruth Bearden; maternal great-grandmother, Floydene Dunagan; maternal great-grandfathers, Freddie Dunagan and Orville Roland and Pete Lisle; and paternal grandfather, C. C. Horton.
Our little angel will be loved and missed greatly.
Graveside services for Cameryn will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday July 9, 2005 in the “Babyland” section at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Tommie Jean McNeil
Pecos - Tommie Jean McNeil, 74, of Midland, was called home to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 6, 2005, in Midland, Texas.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. today, July 8, at Evergreen cemetery in Pecos, Texas.
Tommie was married
to Floyd James McNeil, whom she was married
to for 54 years. She had two sons, Gary McNeil and Lloyd McNeil. She spent her life helping her husband in his different business adventure and raising her children and grandchildren.
Tommie is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd; brother, Howard Ryals; and a little daughter.
Survivors include two sons, Gary McNeil of Midland, Texas, and Lloyd and Tina McNeil of El Paso, Texas; granddaughters, Carie McNeil and Taylor McNeil of Midland, Texas, Jamie Self of California, Stephanie, Julie, and Jessie of El Paso, Texas; grandsons, Scott McNeil of Gardendale, and Louis McNeil of El Paso; great-grandchildren, Victoria Stewart and Caleb McNeil, both of Midland, Texas. She is also survived by brothers, J.B. and Ann Ryals of Louisiana, and David Ryals of Lakeside, Texas; and sisters, Fay Holder of Glen Rose, Texas, Della Marie Dowell of Lakeside, Texas, Daisy and “Man” May of El Paso, and Dora Singleton of Alabama.
Tommie, we will all love and cherish you in our hearts. You have blessed each and every person that has come into your life we are grateful and honored for all the smiles and memories that you have given us.

Jimmie Dale Shults
San Antonio - Jimmie Dale Shults was born Oct. 15, 1949, to J.D. and Margie Gregory Shults in Hall County, Texas and passed from this earth Wednesday, July 6, 2005.
He attended schools in Memphis, Texas, and Hedley, Texas. Mr. Shults served in the U.S. Army as a medic. He was an expert drilling and completion hand in the oilfield and began his career, which spanned for over 30 years, with Ford Tool Co. in Perryton, Texas. He was a production superintendent for McDay Energy Corp. at the time of his death.
Mr. Shults always had a positive, “can-do” attitude with a happy demeanor that spilled over to all those around him. He could play almost any string instrument by ear and loved to entertain anyone who would listen. Mr. Shults was a cowboy at heart all of his life and had a deep love for horses, saddles, cattle, farming, a nice row of cotton and anything associated with that lifestyle.
Both of his parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by wife, Cyndi Peril Shults of San Antonio; daughter, Shana M. Shults Bailey and husband, Bobby, of San Antonio; son, James Scott Shults and wife, Kasina, of Odessa, Landry Keith Shults and wife, Jessica, of San Antonio, and J.T. Shults of Greenwood, Texas; seven grandchildren; sisters, Sandra Parker of Pasadena, Texas, and Teresa Shotts of Krum, Texas; brother, Tracy Wayne Richardson of Del Rio, Texas; aunts, Jean Baten of Amarillo, and Juanita Meador of Vista, Calif.; and numerous friends and business associates.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Sunday, July 10, at Robertson Funeral Home in Clarendon, Texas, with burial to follow in Hedley, Texas.

Relford Smith Jr.
Odessa - Relford Smith Jr., 66, a long time resident of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born Sept. 9, 1938, in Groesbeck to Relford Sr. and Cora Smith. He served in the U.S. Air Force and he was an active member of the Church Of Christ. He married
Eula Morrison April 27, 1963, in Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Joyce Smith and Luetta Della Carter; and brother, Sammy Ray Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Eula Smith of Odessa; sons, Darryl Glen Smith of Odessa, Kevin Smith of Atlanta, Ga.; daughter, Virginia McCalister of Odessa; brothers, Billy Jean Smith and James Smith, both of Mexia; sisters, Betty Ann Dangerfield of Odessa, Edna Fay Smith of Jonesboro, Ga., and Mable E. Smith Lane of Lubbock; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at the Texas & Clements Church of Christ with Devon DeShields officiating. Interment will follow at RoseHill cemetery.

Raymond Lee Washburn
Odessa - Raymond Lee Washburn, 54, went to see our Father in heaven on July 2, 2005.
“Ray” was born Feb. 11, 1951, in Odessa to Bill and Shirley Washburn. Ray was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle and great-uncle. He loved life, his family and his friends. Ray never spoke an unkind word about anyone. He loved his grandchildren and nieces and nephews, or “rugrat curtain climbers” as he would call them. His favorite pastimes were fishing, teaching his birds, Taz and Jay Jay, how to talk and blowing kisses to the ones he loved.
Ray served his country in the Army from 1968 to 1970. He then went to work with his stepfather, Paul Powers at Postelle’s Sucker Rod Service until 1972. In 1972, he went to work at Cabot/Franks as a counter parts man for well service parts. This began what would be his life long career. To all who knew him in the well service industry, he was an outstanding parts man. He continued his employment, until he became too ill to work in March of 2005. He was loved by all of his fellow employees.
Ray is preceded in death by his father, Bill Washburn.
He is survived by his mother, Shirley Powers of Odessa; wife, Judy Washburn of Odessa; daughter, Rebecca Brown and son-in-law, Rip Brown, of Odessa; son, Nathan Washburn of Odessa; two grandchildren, Tori and Wesley Brown of Odessa; three sisters, Beabea Hatten and husband, Dale Hatten, of Eastland, Karen Porter and husband, Gary Porter, of Odessa, and Ericka Reffner and husband, Chris Reffner, of Odessa; three stepchildren, Shane Tarwater, Milton Tarwater of Odessa, and Joy McMillion of Mineral Wells; three nieces, Renee Brown, Amanda Blake and Jennifer Reffner, all of Odessa; four nephews, Randy Hatten, Bradley Porter, Christopher Reffner and Stephen Reffner, all of Odessa. He also has five great-nieces; and four-great nephews.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Lloyd Sikes, Gary Porter, Ralph Hines, Linton Petrey, Carlos Swanner, David Jones, Dale Hatten and Chris Reffner.
Special thanks go out to the nurses working on 8 central, the care flight teams that transported him to Dallas and back home again and Odyssey Hospice.
Services are to be held on Saturday, July 9, at 2 p.m. at the Odessa Funeral Home Chapel.
He is missed by all who knew and loved him.

Norma Wilson
Odessa - Norma Wilson, 84, of Odessa, passed on to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 6, 2005.
She was born Jan. 25, 1921, in Albuquerque, NM.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Walter Wilson; daughters, Janelle Woody and husband, Jerry, of Odessa, and Margaret Wilson; eight grandchildren, Heidi Flatt, Enoch Hill, Amy Rivera and Mike, Eric Flatt, Jeremy Woody, Gretchen Pool, Kristen Flatt and Aaron Flatt, and one great-granddaughter, Kaitlyn Pool.
Norma will long be remembered for her kindness and generosity, great parties and wonderful jokes. She was always baking a cake or making a pie for someone in need.
A Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today, July 8, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at a later date.

Opal ‘Lorene’ Elms
Odessa - Opal “Lorene” Elms, 93, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, July 17, 2005, at the Hospice House.
The family will receive visitors from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services for Opal “Lorene” Elms are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, July 21, at the Eisenhower Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Burt Groves, minister, in charge of the services and Jeff Sweeten and Denny Wilson assisting.
Mrs. Elms was a charter member of the Eisenhower Congregation.
Mrs. Elms was born Oct. 27, 1911, in Atwood, Okla., to G.W. and Mantie Key. She married
Clarence Elms on Nov. 22, 1927, in Sulphur, Okla. Mr. Elms is now deceased; they were married
49-and-a-half years. Lorene’s great passion was teaching small children. She taught in Oklahoma for nine years (part of that time was also spent as elementary school principal), in Arkansas for two years and in Odessa for 26 years, until her retirement in 1977. Lorene was a very hard-working lady. She got her first college degree from East Central State College in Ada, Okla., in 1940, after her children were born. After moving to Odessa, she received her master’s degree from Sul Ross University in Alpine. Lorene dearly loved her family. Mr. and Mrs. Elms with their two sons moved to Odessa in 1951 to be near their daughters and have the family in one place.
While a teacher in Odessa, Mrs. Elms taught second grade at Alamo Elementary School for the entire 26 years of her career in Texas. During this time, she was also listed in “Who’s Who in American Elementary Schools.” While a teacher, she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Kappa Fraternity. She held each of the offices and was a past president. She was also a member of the service sorority Epsilon Sigma Alpha International. She loved to travel and made many delightful trips with her sorority sisters.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband; grandsons, Jimmy Paul and Matthew Clarence Strickland and Steven Elms; her parents; two brothers, and three sisters.
She is survived by her sons, Bill Elms and wife, Anita, and Norman Elms, both of Odessa; daughters, Doris Roberson and Maxine Newton and husband, Red, of Odessa. Lorene “Mammaw” is also survived by seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; plus, many former students who still remember with joy their time spent in second grade.

Rev. Hector R. Gonzalez Sr.
MIDLAND - The Rev. Hector R. Gonzalez Sr. went to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 16, 2005, in Midland, Texas.
He was born July 24, 1933, in Puerta de Tierra, Puerto Rico. He married
Benita Orona on Nov. 5, 1954, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
He served in the U.S. Air Force for 11 years and was a Korean War Veteran. Rev. Hector R. Gonzalez Sr. served in the United Methodist Church for 20 years as pastor, district superintendent and conference evangelist for the Rio Grande Conference.
He graduated from Perkins School of Theology from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. He received his Masters Degree of Divinity from Almeada University.
He moved to Midland in 1982, where he established The Glory of God Church (La Gloria de Dios) in 1983 and where he served as pastor for 22 years. In 2003, I.C.F. Ministries ordained him into the office of Bishop. He also served as Senior Chaplain of the International Conference of Police Chaplains, representing the Midland Police Department under Chief Richard Czech and Chief John Urby.
His father, Saturino Peña of Puerto Rico, preceded him in death.
Rev. Gonzalez is survived by his mother, Tomasa Peña of Bayamon, Puerto Rico; Benita O. Gonzalez, his wife of 50 years; his children, Hector Gonzalez Jr. and wife Deborah, Victor R. Gonzalez and wife Becky, Richard H. Gonzalez and wife Elizabeth, Brenda K. Hobson and husband Dale and Rev. Dan H. Gonzalez and wife Esther. He’s also survived by his
12 loving grandchildren, Cherylle Henkel, Mona Garcia, Jonathan Gonzalez, John Rivera, Timothy Gonzalez, Michael Gonzalez, Talitha Gonzalez, Timothy Rivera, Christopher Henkel, Kristan Gonzalez, Cailen Gonzalez and Kendall Gonzalez, all of Midland, Texas. He is also survived by two sisters, Carmen Gonzalez Peña of Puerto Rico and Clarita Montalban of California, as well as two brothers, Carlos “Charlie” Gonzalez Rivera and Raul Gonzalez Rivera of Puerto Rico.
The Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. today, July 20, at Cornerstone Christian Fellowship, located at 1610 W. Wall St., Midland. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
