J.D. Kevil

San Angelo - J.D. Kevil, 85, of San Angelo, passed away Monday, July 18, 2005, after a short illness.
A visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Johnson’s Funeral Home followed by a graveside service at 2 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa with the Rev. Dr. Jack Hunnicutt officiating.
Pallbearers will be: Reed Thoss, Juan Mendosa, Steve Hargrove, Jerry Baker, Brad Baker, Bryan Baker, Brian Marschall and Charlie Beasley.
Mr. Kevil was born Dec. 4, 1919, in Marie, Texas. He graduated from Norton High School. He married Marceil Mullins on Feb. 9, 1951, in Abilene. Before his retirement, he owned KP Builders in Odessa.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marceil; one brother, Leonard Kevil; and a nephew, Harold Baker.
Mr. Kevil is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Reed Thoss of Houston; two grandchildren, Andrew Thoss and Natalie Thoss, both of Houston; two sisters, Louise Baker and Myra Kevil, both of San Angelo; a nephew, Jerry Baker of Menard; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
Services are entrusted to Johnson’s Funeral Home of San Angelo.

Dorothy Lee Duncan

Odessa - Dorothy Lee Duncan, 81, of Odessa, passed away July 22, 2005, in Odessa. She was born October 8, 1923, in Wall to W.M. Brasher and Mattie Lee Keel Brasher.
She served her country in the U.S. Navy and married Enoch S. Duncan December 5, 1944, in Florida during her time in the military.
Dorothy was preceded in death by two brothers, James P. Brasher Sr. and Marvin R. Brasher.
She is survived by nieces, Jean and Jack Lee of Odessa, Sherry Gora and Peggy Brasher, both of Lakeside, Calif., and Jesale Moore of Irving; nephews, Richard and Judy Brasher of Tucson, Ariz., James P. and Velma Brasher Jr. of San Angelo, Joe A. and Kathy Brasher of Robert Lee, and J.W. Brasher and life partner C. Mitchell of Dallas; 24 great-nieces and great-nephews; numerous cousins and other friends and family.
There was a family visitation on Sunday, July 24, 2005, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Johnson’s Funeral Home.
Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2005, at Johnson’s Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. J. Earl Dunn officiating. Interment followed at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers for the services were: Bill Gora Jr., Douglas Gora, Christopher Gora, Warren Brasher, Jim Lee and Dustin Lee.

Britani Ann Hall

Monahans - Britani Ann Hall, 5, of Monahans, passed away Friday, July 22, 2005, in Edgewood.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, at Monahans Memorial cemetery with the brother Danny Morriss officiating.
She was born Oct. 22, 1999, in Odessa.
Her survivors include her mother, Christina Stafford and husband, Larry, of Monahans; father, Larry Hall of Kermit; sisters, Taylor Stafford of Edgewood, Kelcey Stafford of Monahans, Tara Stafford of Odessa, and Kimberly Wilson of Andrews; grandparents, Rex and Barbara Stafford and Wayne Johnson, all of Monahans, and Penny Riley of Granbury.
Services are by Family Funeral Services/Jackie Harkey of Monahans.

John Richard McCormick III

CRANE - John Richard McCormick III, of Crane, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, July 24, 2005, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 27, 2005, at Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. David Bryant officiating. Burial will follow at Crane County cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home.
John was born on November 19, 1937, in Chicago, Illinois. He married Patricia Joanne Fought on November 28, 1957, in Michigan City, Indiana. He was an Air Force veteran, serving in the Berlin Crisis. John was an aviation consultant and a member of the Experimental Aviation Association No. 98.
John is survived by his wife, Patricia Fought McCormick of Crane; one son, Jay A. McCormick and his wife, Fiona, of Lubbock; two daughters, Jackie Hicks and her husband, Greg, of Midland, and Pamela McCormick Adams and her husband, David, of Alvord, Texas; one sister, Judith H.M. Cohen of Naples, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Amy Riddle, Timothy McCormick, Amber Riddle Shock, Thomas McCormick, James McCormick, Sophie McCormick, Dalton Adams and John Jeffrey Adams; and three great-grandchildren, Joseph Hernandez, Cassidye Shock and Skye Shock.
Pallbearers will be: Doug Damron, Tony Jones, Jared Jones, Tre McDonald, Jaime Sanchez and Gilbert Sena.

David Michael Burns
June 16, 1993 — July 29, 2005

LUBBOCK - Funeral Service for David Burns will be at 10:03 a.m., Monday, Aug. 1, 2005, at First Christian Church with Michael Passmore and James Peel officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
David Michael Burns (Maddog) went home Friday, July 29, 2005, to be with his Lord and Savior after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
David was born in Odessa, Texas, on June 16, 1993. His family moved to Lubbock in 1996.
David was a student at Whiteside Elementary and was to attend Irons Junior High in the fall. He was an active youth member at the First Christian Church and loved all sports. David excelled at baseball and was selected to the Western League All-Star team this season. He also enjoyed playing golf with his grandparents.
His loving spirit and smile was contagious to all who came to know him. He was loved by all his family, friends and his caregivers who went beyond the call for David.
Through the pain of three brain surgeries, chemo, radiation and numbers of untold tests, David never lost his spirit and will to live.
He was most proud to be honored with numerous articles in the Lubbock Avalanche Journal and TV coverage. When first diagnosed his friends put up a lemonade stand to help David, this was featured in the LAJ. He also was featured in a short segment on the A&E biography series that featured the band Aerosmith. He was excited when Tech played its last basketball game in 2004, and he was brought in to the stadium on the shoulders of Robert Tomaszek to the cheers of the crowd chanting “David, David, David.”
He is survived by his Father, Dan Timothy Burns; his Mother, Julia Gilliland Morton and Dad Tony Morton; sisters, Chelsea Burns, Alyson Morton and Caitlyn Morton; and brothers, Tim Burns and Cris Morton; grandparents, James and Linda Gilliland and Paula Burns and Bill and Carlene Morton; his Uncles, James Gilliland, Mike Burns, Doug Donk and John Zetzman; Aunts, Jean Ann Gilliland, Jennifer Gilliland Donk, Angela Gilliland, Becky Burns Jones and Debbie Morton Zetzman; cousins, who always referred to David as their favorite cousin; Cullen, Ashton, Madison Gilliland; Nikkole and Taylor Donk; John Patrick Burns; Aaron and Lindsey Jones; Lauren and Jessica Zetzman and Nephew Spencer Burns.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the David Burns Fund at City Bank.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Sanders Funeral Home.

Manuel Silvas Chaidez

ODESSA - Manuel Silvas Chaidez, 68, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, July 28, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
He was born March 1, 1937, in Colorado City, Texas, to Pedro Chaidez and Loretta Silvas.
He united in marriage in April 1965 to Gloria Pineda in Odessa.
He was a Christian and a machinist for Fitz Equipment Co.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel Chaidez; and brother, Pedro Chaidez.
He is survived by wife, Gloria P. Chaidez of Odessa; sons, Manuel Pineda and wife Randi of Odessa, Sammy Rangel and wife Estella of San Antonio, Blas Rangel Sr. and wife Patricia of Odessa, Pedro Garcia and wife Roxanne of Odessa and Timo Ybarra Sr. and wife Rosie of Odessa; daughters, Nancy Baca and husband Daniel of Odessa, Manuela Ybarra Apodaca and husband Pete of Odessa and Rachel Chaidez and Dora Chaidez, both of Snyder, Texas; brothers, Simon Quiroz, Juan Silvas and Emiliano Chaidez, all of Snyder, Texas; sisters, Antonia Martinez of Perioria, Ariz., Francisca Reyes of Snyder, Texas, and Nancy Lopez of San Angelo, Texas; 21 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of friends.
Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Daniel Baca, Matt Baca, Joey Baca, Joshua Ybarra, Timo Ybarra Jr. and Blas Rangel Jr.
We the family would like to express our utmost sincere gratitude and a heartfelt embrace to each and every one of you for all your kind prayers, floral food offerings and especially your presence with us, during this most difficult time.

Luisa Juardo Chavez

ODESSA - Luisa Juardo Chavez, 87, of Odessa, Texas, passed away Friday, July 29, 2005, at Avalon Place Nursing Home.
She was born Aug. 11, 1917, in Candelaria, Texas, to Eugenio and Concepcion Juardo.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. today. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday Aug. 1, 2005, at Martinez Funeral Home with the Rev. David Piston. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Juan Chavez; son, Ruben Chavez; and son-in-law, Filomeno Baeza.
Her survivors include, daughters, Merita Carrasco and husband Carlos, Rafaela Lopez and husband Margarito, Chonita Nunez and husband Oscar, Mercedes Baeza and Emilia Muniz and husband Nicolas, all of Odessa; sons, Ramon Chavez and wife Petra, Joe Chavez and wife Pat, Reynaldo Chavez and wife Esther, all of Odessa, Reyes Chavez and wife Amelia, Eugenio Chavez and wife Mary, Juan Chavez and wife Carmen, all of Midland; sisters, Maria Campos, of Los Banos, Calif., and Lupe Mendoza of Seguin, Texas; brothers, Pilar Juardo, Jesus Juardo and Santiago Juardo, all of Los Banos, Calif. She had 38 grandkids; 58 great-grandkids; and 14 great-great-grandkids.
Special thanks to the staff at Avalon Nursing Home, Hospice and Dr. Ramanathan.

Jesus D. Galindo

Odessa - Jesus D. Galindo, 64, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Hospice House in Odessa.
He was born June 30, 1941, in Fort Stockton to parents, Vicente and Francisca Galindo.
A rosary was said at 7 p.m. Thursday at Martinez Funeral Home. Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, July 29, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Mark Miller officiating. Burial followed at Rose Hill cemetery.
Survivors include: sons, David Galindo Sr., Daniel Galindo Sr., Martin Galindo Sr. and Jesus Galindo Jr., all of Odessa; daughters, Belinda Landaverde of Wills Point and Audelia Galindo and Esmeralda Galindo, both of Odessa; brother, Neri Galindo of Odessa; sisters, Celia Armenta and Carmen Ceballos, both of Odessa; 27 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Arrangements were under the direction of Martinez Funeral Home.

Jessie Milton ‘Milt’ Legg

ODESSA - Jessie Milton “Milt” Legg, died July 21, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital after a short illness.
He was laid to rest July 23 at Resthaven cemetery in McCamey.
He was born March 20, 1925, in Wolfe County, Ky.
Milt was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Legg; father, Edward Legg; stepmother, Lola Legg; brother, James Cecil Legg Sr.; and his mother, Nellie Bush Legg.
Survivors include a stepson, Charles and Judy Cabral and children, Lisa, Jacoba, Julie, Vaugn Ray, their spouses and grandchildren; nieces, Janice and Mike Foutz and son Brent and wife Jessica, Susan and Truman Ivison and children Angela and Amanda, spouses and Jordyn; nephew, James Cecil Jr. and Kim Legg and children Kendall, Chandra, Hayden and Sam Legg of Lubbock; daughter Alisha Boettger and children and grandchildren of Houston.
Milt moved with his family from Kentucky to Iraan in 1927 because of his mother’s failing health with tuberculosis. She died within a year at Carlsbad, Texas, leaving his father to raise the boys alone. They lived in a tent the first year, out on an oil lease. They eventually built a house. He grew up roaming the hills of Iraan, hunting, fishing on the Pecos River and camping in Big Bend long before it was a Park.
Milt dropped out of Iraan High School in 1943 to join the Armed Forces. He received his high school diploma in New York. After the war, he returned to West Texas and the oilfields. He married Hazel Nadine in August 1966 and they moved from Crane to West Odessa the same year.
He traveled all over as a driller. He went to Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and South America. He visited London, England, and he and Hazel stayed for brief periods of time in Mexico.
Special thanks from the family to Patsy Wells for being his best friend and for all other attention, love and help during Hazel and Milts illness.
Also, special thanks to Dr. Surrendra, MCH, CCU, 4C, 3W Rehab and Best Home Care.

Juan Manuel Riojas

ODESSA - Juan Manuel Riojas, 55, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, July 30, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.
A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel.
He was born in Mexico and was a foreman for Permian Demolition Co.
Survivors include his wife Martha of Odessa; two sons, Luis and Octavio Riojas of Odessa; one daughter, Yuliana Magana of Long Beach, Calif.; one brother, Geronimo Riojas of Ojinaga, Mexico; two sisters, Manuela Riojas of Juarez, Mexico, and Marcella Riojas of Odessa; mother, Soledad Riojas; and seven grandchildren.

Ted McLaurin

RICHARDSON - Ted, Daddy, Grandaddy, Daddy Mac — a loving husband and father, faithful Christian and gentle spirit.
Born Dec. 28, 1915, on the C.C. McLaurin Centennial Farm in Lynn County, Texas. Died July 29, 2005, at his home in Dallas, Texas surrounded by his family.
A 32nd degree Mason and member of Lovers Lane United Methodist Church, he is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen Baucum McLaurin; his children, Teddie Lynette McLaurin Jackson and husband James H. Jackson, David C. McLaurin and wife Kathleen Ryan McLaurin; grandchildren, Leanne Jackson Shipper and husband Daryl Shipper, Troy Jackson and wife Amy Jackson, Sarah McLaurin, Ann McLaurin and fiance Wesley Reinert, Ryan McLaurin and wife Lindsay McLaurin; great-grandchildren, Ella Shipper, J.R. Jackson and Matthew Jackson; and one surviving brother, H.E. McLaurin, of Odessa, Texas.
Visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. today at Sparkman/Richardson Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 1 at Lovers Lane United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Ted’s memory to Lovers Lane United Methodist Church.
