Neulan Jay ‘Jack’ Edwards

Austin - Neulan Jay “Jack” Edwards passed away Thursday, April 7, 2005. He was 58 years old.
Jack, a resident of Austin since 1991, moved here with his wife, Carolyn, and sons, Ray and Brian, from his longtime home in Odessa. Jack and Carolyn had been married for 32 years. The highlight of their life was the year they adopted their two boys, Ray and Brian. Both boys were very special to their dad.
Jack is survived by his wife, Carolyn Edwards; his sons, Ray and Brian Edwards of Austin; his granddaughter Patricia Edwards of Levelland; and Carolyn’s mother, Pansy Sherrod of Austin. He is also survived by many of his siblings including Jill Hale of Austin, Judy Williams of Early, Gary and Janna Edwards of San Angelo, Joyce and Don Jones of Austin, Bill and Maryann Edwards of Seattle, Wash., Dottie Edwards of San Antonio, Maola Rainey of Ripley, Miss., Melba Rogers of Fort Worth; along with numerous nieces and nephews as well as grandnieces and grandnephews and several great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews and a very large church family.
A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Friday, April 15, at Cook-Walden Chapel of the Hills Funeral Home, 9700 Anderson Mill Road, Austin.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Rock United Methodist Church, 1901 W. New Hope Drive, Cedar Park, TX 78613.

Jimmie Olivia Heaton

Belton - Jimmie Olivia Heaton, 86, of Janesville, Wis., a homemaker, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Coy Lil’Acres in Janesville, Wis.
A memorial service was Sunday, April 3, in Janesville, Wis. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Belton cemetery. Arrangements are by Heart Felt Funeral Home of Belton.
She was a longtime resident of Odessa. Her husband, “Cubby” J.J. Heaton was fire chief at Midland Airbase and in Odessa. He was also chief of police in 1964. They raised two daughters in Odessa and they loved Odessa. They had many friends. She attended Immanuel Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband “Cubby” Heaton; and her parents.
Survivors include her sister, Jewell Greenwood of California; daughters, Sue Presley of Janesville, Wis., and Beth Colley of Deer Park; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Hootie Pastelle of Odessa.

Theodore Mattison ‘Ted’ Lawson

Andrews - Theodore Mattison “Ted” Lawson passed away Sunday, April 10, 2005.
Ted was born Feb. 6, 1940, in Lubbock to Estelle (Terry) Lawson and T. M. Lawson. He started to school in Levelland. He graduated from Midland High School in 1958. He attended South Plains College for one year on a golf scholarship. On June 6, 1959, he married his high school sweetheart, VonDean Heairren. They attended Sul Ross University. He graduated in 1962 with a degree in business. Upon graduation he worked for DRILPRODCO in Hobbs, N.M.
In 1964, he moved to Andrews, and was employed by Dowell. In 1966, he became partners in Chemical Service Company. He then started Technical Tubing Testers. In 1981, he married Anne Blanton McBeth. He formed Alamo Tubing Testers and Drillers Rat Hole Service in Odessa. He ran for the office of Texas Railroad Commissioner in 1990. In 1995, he started Lawson Equipment Company in Odessa, which is still in operation today.
He was preceded in death by his parents, T.M. and Estelle Lawson.
He is survived by one sister, Virginia Watkins and husband, Wally; nephew, Lynn Muncy; nieces, Michelle Dunlop, Cheryl Staudaucher and a special niece, Linda Avery. He is also survived by numerous cousins; a stepdaughter, Kelly Mcbeth; two step-grandchildren, Quincy and Addie Smith; and one great-step-grandson, Henry Smith.
Ted was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Odessa. He belonged to numerous civic organizations, including: past president of the Andrews Country Club, past Board of Directors of the First National Bank of Andrews, past president of Andrews High School Booster Club, Past president of Sul Ross Ex-Students Assoc. and a loyal supporter of Sul Ross University. He was honored by the Desk and Derrick Club as “Boss of the Year.” He was a semi annual exhibitor of the Permian Basin Oil Show and an active businessman in the oil industry. Throughout his life he was very generous to people, especially to those in need. He was instrumental in helping many people become business owners.
His wonderful sense of humor, his love of music and singing and gregarious personality made him welcomed and loved by everyone he came in contact with.
Ted leaves behind a multitude of loyal friends and family who will miss him terribly. The world is a little dimmer without Ted.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. today at the First United Methodist Church in Odessa. Burial will follow at Andrews cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Lamar Chuter, Harold McCullough, Mike Alcorn, James Barnett, Bill Culver, Danny Barlau, Jimmy Madewell, Lynn Muncy, Brad Avery, Chris Carruth, Mark Staudaucher and Wallace Watkins.
Honorary Pallbearers will be: Todd, Terry, Jerry and Mike McCabe, Carl Shamburger, Howard Raglin, Herman Guetersloh, Marian Belknap and Butch Lawhorn.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Otilio C. Quintana

ODESSA - Otilio C. Quintana, 81, a lifelong resident of Odessa, went to be with the Lord Sunday, April 10, 2005, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 14, 1924, in Nonoava, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Otilio and Filomena Quintana.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he served in the Carmelitas, Associasion Guadalupana. He also served the Adoracion Perpetua de la Iglesia Santa Maria.
He married Maria Demetria Alvarado on Jan. 12, 1947, in Chihuahua.
He is survived by his wife, Demetria of Odessa; four sons, Federico Quintana and wife, Eva, Manuel Quintana and wife, Laura, Otilio Quintana and wife, Maria, and Gilberto Quintana and wife, Rosario; two daughters, Ofelia Ramos and husband Sergio, and Maria Trinidad Martinez and husband, Florencio; 22 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Martinez Funeral Home.
Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Joseph Uecker officiating. Internment will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Martinez, Jesus Manuel Quintana, Pedro Quintana, Sergio Ramos, Jorge Martinez and Daniel Quintana.
Services are entrusted to Martinez Funeral Home.

Lillian Green

Odessa - Lillian Green, 88 of Odessa, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at Parks Methodist Nursing Home.
She was born in Opp, Ala., Jan. 10, 1917, and moved to Odessa in 1929. She attended Odessa High School and later attended Texas Womens College in Denton. She married Bill Green, a druggist, and they were married about 64 years. She taught school for 18 years at San Jacinto, Ross and Odessa High and was later employed at Medical Center Hospital for 21 years in the business office.
Mrs. Green was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she taught in the children’s department for years. She was also in the Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a loving mother, devoted wife and steadfast friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Green in 1966; and her parents.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Peggy and M.J. Cox; her grandson, Aaron Cox; and great-granddaughter, Kennedi Cox; her sister and brother-in-law, Peggy and Jerry Rodell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Marvin Cecil Abbott

ODESSA - Marvin Cecil Abbott was born April 15, 1927, in Britton, Okla., to Fred and Essey Abbott.
Mr. Abbott, 77, passed away Nov. 9, 2004, at Hospice House in Odessa. He was buried at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Cecil, also known as “Abb, ” lived in Odessa more than 50 years. He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. In 1985, he retired from Phillips Pipeline after 33 years of service. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
Cecil was a kind man who put others above his own wants. He enjoyed old TV westerns and fishing. We treasure his memory and honor his life.
His daughters, Pat Abbott and husband Craig Ellis and Kay Abbott Scott and husband Bob Scott; two grandsons, Jonathan and Matthew Scott; his brother, Fred Abbott Jr. and wife Joy Abbott; his nieces, nephews and friends; know we will all be together again one day.
If desired, memorials may be sent to the Hospice House, 903 N. Sam Houston Ave., Odessa, TX 79761.

Gloria Fuentes Ramirez

Odessa - A memorial mass will be celebrated in memory of Gloria Fuentes Ramirez at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Gloria went to be with our Lord on February 23, 2005, in Austin, after she battled a lengthy illness with brain cancer.
She was born on July 5, 1965, in Odessa, Texas, to Memo and Rosa Ramirez.
She was preceded in death by her father, Memo Ramirez.
She is survived by her son, Donny Ray Carrasco of Denver; daughters, Valerie McGuire and Melanie Nuncio, both of Round Rock; grandson, Dominic Nuncio of Round Rock; companion of five years, Mike Maldonado; mother, Rosa Ramirez of Odessa; sisters, Cecilia Ramirez of Round Rock and Dora Ramirez of Gilbert, Ariz.; brothers, John Ramirez and wife Alice of Round Rock, Rick Ramirez of San Antonio and Jerry Ramirez and Leo Ramirez and wife Janice, both of Fort Worth; and many nieces and nephews.
Gloria will be missed by all.

Ramon O. Tarango

ODESSA - Ramon O. Tarango, 86, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Home Hospice House.
He was born Dec. 16, 1919, in Candelaria, Texas, to Blas and Maria Reyes Tarango.
He united in marriage to Tomasa Lujan on Feb. 28, 1938, in Los Fresnos, Mexico, and to this unification was born nine children.
He was a Christian Baptist and a Farmer in the Agriculture Industry.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Justo and Felix O. Tarango.
He is survived by his wife, Tomasa L. Tarango of Odessa; four sons, Ramon Tarango Jr. of Grand Prairie, Manuel Tarango of Portales, N.M., and Raymond Tarango and Robert Tarango, both of Odessa; five daughters, Celia Alderette of Manteca, Calif., Mary Whittemore of Edgewood N.M., Maria C. Gonzales of Dallas and Gloria Sparks and Ana Tavarez of Odessa; brother, Alejandro Tarango of Pecos; two sisters, Elfida Lujan of Arlington and Elena Tarango Ortega of Pecos; 40 grandchildren; 63 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of friends.
We, the family, would like to take this time to extend and express a heartfelt embrace to each and every one of you for all your prayers, floral and food offerings and especially for being with us during this most difficult time. A special thank you to all the staff at Home Hospice House for the wonderful loving care that was given to our father and the family. May God bless you all abundantly.
A Prayer Service will be held at 7 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Eloy Garcia and Mario Martinez officiating. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2005, at Primera Iglesia Bautista, 2111 W, 22nd St., with the Rev. J.M. Garcia officiating. Interment will follow at RoseHill cemetery.

Marla Sledge Welch

MIDLAND - After a courageous battle with a brain tumor, Marla passed away on May 20, 2005, at the age of 50.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son Russell Scott, and her daughter and son-in-law Ashleigh and Rocky Merritt. She is also survived by her mother, Hazel Pierce; brother, Dennis Sledge and wife Pam of Midland; brother, David Sledge and wife Janet of Longview; Kevin Welch of Midland; Doyle and Ann Russell of Odessa; Vickie and Ed Lee Renfro of Monahans; nephews, Matthew Sledge of Midland, Zack Sledge of Dallas and Brandon Sledge of Longview; and nieces, Renae Jones of Longview and Kayse Renfro of Lubbock.
She was preceded in death by Robert Glenn Pierce; by her sister, Leigh Neil Russell; and by her grandmother, Lena Marshall.
Marla was born September 29, 1954, in Kermit, Texas. She graduated in 1973 from Midland Senior High School. After having several jobs in the oil industry, she finally found a job she truly loved and enjoyed: working for Clayton Williams Energy.
Marla may have lived a short life, but she made an impact on all those around her. She enjoyed life to the fullest and spread that joy wherever she was. Always laughing, she could lift anyone’s spirits. She was a wonderful friend to anyone that needed one. She was also an incredibly selfless and loving mother and a terrific daughter. Social by nature, she loved chatting and cutting up with friends and family whenever possible.
The family wishes to extend thanks to all those who supported Marla and her family during her struggle with her brain tumor. The love and support of her fellow employees, close personal friends and the exemplary care of all the hospital staff made her last months with us a memory to treasure forever. Sadly, Marla will be missed but will remain in our hearts and be with us always.
The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home between the hours of 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. today.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2005, at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland with George Koehl, III officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Highway, Midland, Texas (432) 683-5555.

Rodolfo ‘Ruby’ Abila Jr.

ODESSA - Rodolfo “Ruby” Abila Jr., 14 years of age, passed away on May 27, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born on Aug. 1, 1990, in Odessa to Rudy and Rita Abila. Rudy Jr. attended Crockett Junior High and was member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Rudy was a High Brass Lieutenant and member of the 2004-2005 all City Band, he was also a member of the Odessa Boxing Club and the Select Team of the Outlaws Baseball Club — he was their catcher.
Rudy is survived by his parents, Rudy Sr. and Rita Abila of Odessa; his brother, Jeffery Ben Abila of Odessa; his sister, Elija Deandra Abila of Odessa; grandparents, Epifanio “Wedo” and Felix Abila of Barstow; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other family members.
Visitation will begin on at 9 a.m. Monday at Odessa Funeral Home. A rosary will be recited for Rudy at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday June 1, 2005, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Burial will follow at RoseHill cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clint Elmore, Hector Hernandez, Chris Guerrero, Sammy Avila, Mark Abila, Justin Abila, Mono Rubio and Daniel Morales.

Sally Ann Barker

ODESSA - Sally Ann Barker passed away peacefully at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas.
Sally Ann was born Sept. 20, 1935, to Andrew and Geneva Ready in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Arriving in the United States in 1958, Sally Ann then met and married the love of her life, William Earl Barker on Nov. 6, 1962, in Dallas, Texas. They enjoyed living in Las Vegas the past 25 years but her heart was always with Texas.
Although she was recovering from Hodgkins Lymphoma cancer and pneumonia, she returned to visit family and friends here in West Texas in March 2005. Sadly she was taken from us on May 26, 2005.
Sally Ann is survived by her daughter, Shari and husband Steve Hamrick of New York; son, Andrew and wife Sandra Barker of Lamesa; and her husband of 42 years, William Barker. She was a cherished wife; aunt; the greatest mom; a wonderful grandmother and Nana to her grandchildren ages 19 to 5; listed by age: KK, Megan, Ian, William, Dillon and George. A good friend to all who knew her. She will be greatly missed by all especially “Gus.”
Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Curtis Brewer officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today, May 30, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lymphoma Research Foundation 111 Broadway 19th Floor New York, NY 10006; (212) 349-2910.
