Norma Ellig
ODESSA - Norma Ellig, 77, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at Hospice House in Odessa.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Mission Dorado Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Bratcher officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 pm at Frank Wilson Funeral Directors.
Norma was born July 25, 1928 in Okemah, Oklahoma to T.V. and Faye (Thompson) Thomas. She married
Howard Ellig on February 24, 1944 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. She was a loving and devoted wife of 61 years. She was faithful member of Mission Dorado Baptist Church. Norma loved to travel and was an award winning china painter. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved spending time with them.
She is preceded in death by her son Richard Glen Ellig.
She is survived by her husband, Howard Ellig of Odessa; daughter, Diana J. Autry of Burleson, sons, Jeff L. and Marina Ellig of Omaha, NE, Mike H. Ellig of Odessa; sister, Virginia Loving of Weleetka, OK; grandchildren, Robert and Kelly Weekly, Randall and Tracy Autry, Tony and Brooke Olm, Quoc and Drue Nguyen, and Cody Ellig; ten great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, other family members and a host of friends.
Memorial may be made to Mission Dorado Baptist Church Building Fund.

Raymond Bates
BLUFFTON - Raymond Bates, age 86 of Bluffton, Texas, died Wednesday, December 27, 2005 at Care Inn of Llano.
Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday, December 30, 2005, at the Santa Anna cemetery Pavilion in Santa, Texas. Funeral services are under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home in Coleman, Texas.
He was born Raymond Felix Bates on April 26, 1919 in Franklin, Texas, the son of Jack Bates and Ada Pipin Bates. He grew up and attended school in Santa Anna. He served in the United States Army during World War II.
He married
Lula Mae Waldon on January 10, 1939 in Santa Anna. She preceded him death on January 10, 1990. He later married
Robbie Martin. She also preceded him in death. Raymond moved to west Texas in 1939 and later to Andrews in 1955. He worked at Halliburton for many years and retired in 1976 as Camp Manager. He later worked as a consultant for Vogel Independent Oil Corporation for several years and was a member of Buchanan West Baptist Church at Buchanan Dam, Texas.
Survivors include one son, Don Bates of Bluffton, Texas; two granddaughters, Jamie Bates of Andrews, Breanna Bates of Odessa; one granddaughter-in-law, Debbie Bates of Odessa and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by one grandson, Mark Bates.
Antonio M. ‘Tony’ Gonzales
ODESSA - Antonio Minjares Gonzales went to be with his Savior, Wednesday, December 28th, 2005 at Medical Center Hospital, in Odessa, Texas.
Antonio Gonzales was born to Carlos and Besselia Gonzales on June 13th, 1926, in Ft. Stockton, Texas, where he met and married
Maria Delia Valenzuela on January 12th, 1947.
Mr. Gonzales was a veteran of World War II and in the “Pacific Theater.” He was a part of the group that liberated hundred of prisoners in the Phillipines.
Tony worked as a truck driver until he retired in 1990 from Rhodes Welding in Penwell, Texas, and became a crossing guard for the Odessa Police Department until he retired 2003. He really enjoyed the kids and they also loved him.
Mr. Gonzales is preceded in death by his loving wife of 53 years, Delia V. Gonzales; his father and mother, Carlos and Besselia Gonzales; his sisters, Elodia Garcia, Elisa Dominguez; his brothers, Eddie Gonzales, Steve Gonzales and son-in-law Hebert D. Gunn.
Antonio is survived by his five daughters; Linda A. Gunn, Monica Perez of Odessa and grandchildren, Betsy Tennison and husband Larry of Clyde, Texas, Patsy Allen and husband Tommy of Abilene, Texas, Barbara Whittenburg and husband Don of Seminole, Texas; two sons, Raymond Gonzales and wife Leaha of Odessa and Tony V. Gonzales Jr. of Kennedale, Texas; his grandchildren, Joseph of Andrews, Texas., Regina of Odessa, Rebecca of Houston, Texas, and Luis Esquivel and wife Erica of Pasadena, Texas; Anthonette Nall and husband Ron of Dumas, Texas, Don Ignacio Gunn, and wife Patricia of Odessa, Sonny Castillos, Ricky Castillos, and wife Katy of Denton,Texas; Tommy Durett and husband Michael of Ponder, Texas, Paul Allen and wife Dala of Abilene, Texas, Francis Shoemate and husband Jacob of Denton, Texas, David Perez and wife Amanda of Sherman, Texas, Carlos Perez and wife Karyn of Odessa, Joshua and Jennifer Gonzales of Odessa, Dustin, Jaime, Misty, Brandi, and Jason Telifaro of Odessa; Candace and Clarissa Gonzales of North Ranchland Hills, Texas; brothers, Jessie Gonzales and wife Bessie, Ismael Gonzales and wife Alva, Jody Gonzales and wife Petra, Charlie Gonzales and wife Bessie, all of Ft. Stockton, sister; Lucia Gonzales; and Tony’s his sister-in-law, Heneretta V. Gonzalez. Candace and Clarissa Gonzales of North Ranchland Hills, Tx.
Tonys’ 21, great-grandchildren were the love of his life and will miss their “Popo”, but all know that their great-grandparents are now together at last, and have left them a very rich legacy.
We want to thank the nursing staff of five central, at Medical Center Hospital, Avalon Nursing Home and the many people who we such comfort, blessing and support to us all in our time of sorrow.
A Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 30th, 2005, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Mass will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, December 31st, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Francis Frey officiating and his grandsons as pall bearers. Interment will follow immediately at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Mary Margaret Meurer
ODESSA - Mary Margaret Meurer, age 53, passed away, Thursday, December 29, 2005 at her home.
She was born May 11, 1952 in Palm Springs, California.
She married
Gerald Meurer on June 23, 1973.
She is survived by her loving husband Gerald; her son Wayne Meurer and his wife Debbie; daughter Sabrina Florez and her husband Ruben all of Odessa; a sister Linda Wood and her husband Dan of Palm Springs, CA; mother in law Doris Meurer; 3 sisters in law; 2 brothers in law, 7 grandchildren and numerous niece and nephews.
She was the heart and strength of our family.
Viewing will be Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Frank Wilson Funeral Directors.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Frank Wilson Chapel with Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating.

John Franklin Swindle
ODESSA - John Franklin Swindle, 81 years of age, passed away on December 28, 2005 in Robert Lee.
He was born on October 29, 1924 in Lindsay, Okla., to Claude and Thelma Swindle. He married
Selma Chalkley on January 4, 1945 in Richland, Georgia. She preceded him in death.
John worked in the oil industry since 1940, he was employed with numerous oil companies including A.W. Thompson Drilling Co, Delta Drilling Co., later in life he became a drilling consultant.
John served in the 71st Division of the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 955 and member of Belmont Baptist Church.
He is survived by his son; John Swindle of Woodland Park, CO; brother; Joe Swindle of Camarillo, CA, grandsons; Jared Swindle of Colorado Springs, CO, and Christopher Swindle of Tampa FL.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services have been set for 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, at Rose Hill cemetery with Reverend John McLemore officiating.

James Calvin Coppage, Sr.
Odessa - James Calvin Coppage, Sr., 63 of Odessa, passed away, December 26, 2005 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born January 23, 1942 in Dumas, TX to his parents, Charles & Freda Ridener Coppage.
He married
Roxie Odella Crawford on December 31, 1962 in Odessa. He was a member of the House of Refuge Church. He worked for Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home for 18 years before going to work for H & K Armored Cars for 16 years. He was in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife, Roxie Coppage of Odessa, his son, James Calvin Coppage, Jr. & wife, Lisa Ann of Odessa, his daughter, Tammy DeLynn Walker & husband, Calvin of Odessa, 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 11:00 AM, Wednesday, December 28, 2005 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel.

Billy Crews Culver Jr.
Odessa - Billy Crews Culver Jr., 47, of Odessa, Texas, passed away December 24th, 2005, in Houston, Texas.
Mr. Culver was born, in Farmington, New Mexico to Billy Crews Culver Sr. and Mary Conrad Culver May 23rd 1958, and graduated West Jefferson High School in Gretna, Louisiana. He worked as a salesman for Weatherford International since 1981.
Billy was a Baptist, and enjoyed riding his Harley, as well as his guitars, and really enjoyed life to the fullest.
Billy is survived by his father, Billy Crews Culver Sr., and his mother Mary Conrad Culver of Odessa; his granddaughter, Lexie Huckabey, of Odessa; a friend, Stacey Gillam, of Midland; a brother, Rickey Alan Culver and wife Sylvia of Huntsville, Texas, and their children, Karley and Katrina; his sister, Diana Lewis and her husband, George of Midland, Texas and their children, Brandon, Shorty and Lindsey, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins and countless friends.
The family will have a visitation on Wednesday, December 28th, 2005 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Services celebrating his life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29th, 2005, at the Northside Baptist Church in Odessa, Texas, with Reverend Clydell Chapman officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Rosa Cuevas Gonzalez
Odessa - Rosa Cuevas Gonzalez, age 85 of Andrews, passed away Saturday December 24, 2005 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was born in Gonzales County, Texas, March 9, 1920. She married
Alvaro C. Gonzalez in Santo Domingo Coahuila, Mexico in February 1937. She was a Jehovah’s Witness and a homemaker. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Thursday December 29, 2005 at Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapel in Odessa, with Juan Lujan officiating. Burial will follow in Rosehill cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son: Ramiro C. Gonzalez, and two grandsons; James L. Gonzalez and Albert A. Bailey. Mrs. Gonzalez is survived by two sons; Juan C. Gonzalez of Loving, NM., and Alvaro G. Gonzalez of Andrews, two daughters; Otila G. Bell of Odessa, and Cruz G. Bailey of Rio Rancho, NM., one cousin Angelita Manchaca of Casper, Wyoming, 27 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. Funeral services are entrusted to Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapels and Crematory of Odessa.
Billy Douglas Schneider
Odessa - Billy Douglas Schneider 63, of Odessa passed away Friday, December 23, 2005 at Seaton Hospital in Austin, Texas.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM Thursday in the Frank W. Wilson Chapel with Rev. Jerry Thorpe officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Billy Douglas Schneider was born July 22, 1942 in Malone, Texas to Robert Henry, Sr. and Bertha (Priebe) Schneider. Bill graduated from Hubbard High School in 1960. In 1964 he graduated from Sam Houston State University in Huntsville with a degree in accounting. He married
Jamie Lytle on January 15, 1965 in Odessa.
Billy was the owner of The Overhead Door Company of Springdale, Arkansas and serviced all of the Northwest Arkansas area from 1972-1984, until moving to Odessa in 1984. He owned and operated B&R Oil Inc. in Odessa. He was an avid sportsman and loved hunting, fishing, golfing and watching football with his grandson Matt. He was a loving and devoted father, who was the center of life for his wife and daughters, who loved him dearly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years Jamie Schneider of Odessa; three daughters Kim Reese and husband Richard of Springdale, AR, Romy Schneider of Odessa, Amy Curtis and husband Sheldon of Cypress, TX; three sister-in-laws Betty Priest and husband Dan of Austin, Shirley Warren of Andrews/Amarillo, Lynn Tompkins of Cambridge, OH; two grandchildren, Megan Reese of Springdale, AR and Matthew Reese and wife Andrea of Fayetteville, AR; seven nieces and nephews Danielle, Jamysen, Ronalda, Lytle, Kevin, Stephen and Josh; brother Robert and Glenda Schneider and family; and sister Joyce Schneider of DeSoto.
The family wishes to express their gratitude and appreciation to Drs. J.B. and Raja Naidu and the staff of the Naidu Clinic for their loving care.
