Dale Wilson Meyer
Odessa - Dale Wilson Meyer, 88, of Odessa, a former owner of Dale Meyer Trucking, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 2005, at Parks Methodist Retirement Home.
Masonic graveside services will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Gregg Hagelstein officiating. Arrangements are by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Odessa - Patricia Ann Nethery, 72, of Odessa, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2005, at Alliance Hospital.

Seminole - Wanda Delphine Terrell, 77, of Seminole, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2005, at Seminole Memorial Hospital in Seminole.

She was born in Denver City.

Harold Loyed (Hal) Berry
Odessa, Texas
December 16, 1933 – October 31, 2005
Odessa - Harold was born to Georgia and Oscar Berry in Ardmore Oklahoma, where he lived and attended school. He went on to attend Commercial College in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and the University of Oklahoma in Norman.
Harold worked in live and movie theater management in Salinas and San Jose, California from the early 1950’s until 1972, when he moved to Odessa, Texas to work in the floral design business with his sister until 1974. While working in California, Harold befriended many people in the acting profession and has remained close to them via phone calls, visits and letters until his death. For a time, Harold worked as the secretary and travel assistant to the late actor/comedian, Paul Lynde. He then worked for the Hodge and Collins families at the Grandview Cinema, in Odessa, Texas for the next 20 years. The past 6 years, Harold spent with National Travel in Odessa, Texas. And the last 2 months of his life were spent working, again in floral design, for Mark Knox in Odessa, Texas.
Harold was well known in West Texas for his many philanthropic endeavors for civic organizations, music and dance performances, and for his talents as a judge for various pageants; including Miss West Texas, The Permian Basin Fair, the Fort Stockton Water Carnival and the Golden Girl pageant in Pecos, Texas.
Harold is preceded in death by his parents and stepfather, J.C. Hawkins of Odessa, Texas, 2 half-brothers, Edgar and Andrew Berry, and a half-sister, Nettie Mann, all of Ardmore, Oklahoma and a sister, Eula Mae Finley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Harold is survived by his sister, Anita Berry Cole of Midland, Texas, 4 nieces, Leslie Cole Ligon of Midland, Texas, Janet Cole Bachmann of Montpelier, Virginia, Donna Finley Robertson of Plano, Texas and Qali Ann Finley Laschober of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 5 nephews, Jeff and Steve Cole of Midland, Texas, Mark Finley of Crete, Illinois, and Mike and Jerry Finley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.
Harold was a loving brother, uncle, and friend. He touched many lives with his love, caring and attention and will be missed by all who knew him.
A memorial service, celebrating his life, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 5th, 2005 at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, with Revered Marcella Bassett officiating.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be sent to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or the American Diabetes Association.

Bernie Ann McCrea Hale
Sherwood - Bernie Ann McCrea Hale passed away on Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at the age of 72. Graveside service will be 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 23, 2005 at Sherwood cemetery in Sherwood, Texas with Rev. Phil Steinbach officiating. Bernie Ann was born in Cisco, Texas in 1933 to Yancey J. McCrea and Bernie Chesley McCrea. She grew up on the family ranch in Stephens and Eastland Counties. Bernie attended Cisco High School and later went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas. Bernie spent 35 years as a speech therapist with Kermit ISD and after receiving a Master’s Degree she was certified as a Speech Pathologist where she both diagnosed and remediated speech/language disorders. She met and married
Harvey K. Hale in Kermit and they had one child, Harvey J. Hale. She was preceded in death by her mother Bernie Chesley McCrea, her father Yancey J. McCrea, her older brother Yancey J. McCrea, Jr., her younger brother Llewellen McCrea I, and her sister Patsy Lois McCrea Isenhower. She is survived by her husband, Harvey K. Hale, her son and daughter-in-law, Harvey J. and Donna R. Hale, and her grandsons, Keith Jerome Hale and James E. Gamble II and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her dear friends Linda Knight and Debbie Everett. Pallbearers for the service will be Mark Coburn, Clark Coburn, Mike Everett, Ed Filburn, Ray Dorsey and Wes Thiers. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Irion County ISD Library, the Kermit ISD Library, the Winkler County Library and the Cisco Public Library. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Dr. Mohamad Ayass for all of his loving care.
W.J. ‘Jay’ Poynor, Sr.
Austin - Jay Poynor, 79, passed away December 7, 2005 following an auto accident. Jay was born in Brady, Texas on August 18, 1926. He graduated from Texas A&M in 1947 and moved to Odessa where he raised five children and was an active civic leader.
While living in Odessa, Jay took an active role in his church, business community and children’s lives. He served on the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, Jaycees, Chuck Wagon Gang, Shrine Club, Scottish Rite Association, Masonic Lodge, Rotary Club, Jesters, Ector County Children’s Services Board, OALU, TALU, and NALU. Jay served on the Board of Directors of the Texas A&M Former Students Association, Board of Directors of Ector County Hospital, Council of the Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord, and as a Session Member of the First Presbyterian Church of Odessa. Jay dedicated his life, both personally and professionally, to helping others. In 2000, he moved to Austin where he served as a Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church and continued his mission of helping others through various organizations. He has undoubtedly touched the lives of more people than any of us will ever know.
Jay is survived by his wife – Daffy Poynor; mother - Lorena Poynor; brother - Jamie Poynor; children - Molly Monroe and husband Mike of La Porte, Dusty Poynor of Garland, Steve Poynor of Odessa, Mike Poynor and wife Shirley of Austin, and Becky Lambeth and husband Eric of Austin; thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren all of whom will miss him very much.
Services were held at First Presbyterian Church in Austin on Thursday, December 15. If desired, donations in Jay’s honor may be made to Meals-on-Wheels, Salvation Army or the Texas A&M Former Students Association.
Carol Francis Shaffer
Odessa - Carol Shaffer left this world on Friday the 25th of November after a short Illness, she left behind a group that will miss her dearly, for a better place with a husband, she lost two years ago, and her savior she has longed to meet.
She left behind a great legacy, she was a great example of love and kindness, caring in a way only a true Christian could. Many of us that knew her have learned valuable lessons that won’t be forgotten. We will miss you, but are so happy for your new life, god bless, your family.
She is preceded in death by her parents T.Y. and Madge Hill, the father of her children Lauren Thomas Burdette and widowed from Robert Eugene Shaffer, her son Ronald Lynn Burdette, and brother T.Y. Hill II.

Pearl Chilcoat
Midland - Pearl Buena Chilcoat, of Midland, passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2005.
She was born March 6, 1917, to William Thigpen and Dollie Knight Thigpen in Gail, Texas, and was raised and educated in Pettit, Texas. On September 27, 1936, Pearl married
James Presley Chilcoat in Levelland, Texas. A homemaker, Pearl had also worked as a short order cook and a checker at Furr’s Grocery. She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, eight brothers, one sister, and one great-grandson.
Pearl is survived by her son, James “Jim” Kent Chilcoat and wife, Ann Marie, of Midland, TX; daughter, Bennie Joyce McAlister of Midland, TX; son, Ronnie Lee Chilcoat of Odessa, TX; sister, Junelle Lee of Snyder, TX; grandchildren, Kathy Chilcoat of Dallas, TX; Steve Chilcoat and his wife, Cindy, of Midland, TX; great-grandson, James Chilcoat of Midland, TX; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Thursday, December 1, 2005 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy., Midland, Texas 79701 (432) 683-5555.

Mary Viola Smith
LLANO - Mary Viola Smith passed away Monday, November 28, 2005, at Deering Nursing Home in Odessa at the age of 88.
She was born November 24, 1917 in Mason County to Maude and August Simon.
In May 1939, she married
Alton K. Smith in Mason. In 1949, they moved north to Clayton, N.M., where they lived the ranch life and raised their family. In July 1984, they retired back to the Hill Country to Buchanan Lake Village where she spent many hours working in her vegetable garden and flower garden.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Tow, TX. After the death of her husband in January 2002, she moved to Odessa.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Alton K. Smith; daughter, Rebecca Maude Logsdon; and two grandsons, Herby Welch and Dewayne Welch.
She is survived by her son, Randy Smith and wife Betty of Odessa; son, Darby Smith and wife Bernadette of Clayton, N.M.; son-in-law, Darrell Logsdon of Colorado City; brothers, Luke Simon and Clarence Simon; and a sister, Lou Fleming, all of Mason; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family of Viola Smith would like to thank the nursing staff and the administration at Deering Nursing Home for the care and love they gave her for the past 2 ˝ years.
A funeral service will be held Friday, December 2, 2005 at the First Baptist Church in Tow at 10 a.m. with Rev. Stanley Nixon and Rev. James Wilcox officiating. Interment will follow at the Tow cemetery.
Pallbearers will include Ryan Smith, Alton Charles Smith, Wayne Jordan, Gerald Jordan, Roger Jordan, and John Fleming.
