Esperanza ‘Hope’ Valdez
MONAHANS - Mass for Esperanza “Hope” Valdez, 58, of Monahans are scheduled for 4 p.m. today at St. John’s Catholic Church with Father Rudy Lacerna officiating.
Internment will follow at Monahans Memorial cemetery.
Mrs. Valdez died Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. She was born March 3, 1947, in Ojinaga, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was a cafeteria worker for the Monahans-Wickett-Pyote Independent School District.
Survivors include her husband, Andres Valdez of Monahans; four daughters, Norma Ybarra and Nancy Armendariz, both of Monahans, Noemi Lopez of Odessa, and Nora Sheffield of Dallas; 10 brothers, Benito Juarez and Santiago Juarez, both of Mulato, Mexico, Jesus Juarez of Kermit, Jose Juarez and Higinio Salinas Jr., both of Monahans, Arturo Salinas of Kermit, Pablo Juarez and Armando Juarez, both of Odessa, Antonio Juarez and Jose Luis Juarez, both of Las Vegas, Nev.; five sisters, Juanita Rodriguez and Francisca Porras, both of Kermit, Eloisa “Blanca” Marquez of Odessa, Guadalupe Baeza of Muleshoe and Maria Del Refugia Juarez of Las Vegas; nine grandchildren, Casey Meyers, Andrew Marrufo, Amanda Marrufo, Aaron Armendariz, Brittany Armendariz, Estevan Lopez, Karizma Sheffield, Cody Armendariz and Julianna Fullmer; and one great-grandchild, Brianna Marrufo.

Frances Esmond Walker
Odessa - Frances Esmond Walker, 82 years old, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 10, 2005. Frances was born October 24, 1922 in Lamesa, Texas to the pioneer family of M.C. Lindsey and Tommie Lindsey. Her father was one of the organizers of the Town of Lamesa and served as the first County Judge of Dawson County and was well known to the development of the area.
Frances was reared in Lamesa, graduated from Lamesa High School, and earned a degree in business from the University of Texas at Austin. In 1946 she moved to Odessa after marrying Kenneth E. Esmond, a civic leader and engineer, for 33 years until his death in 1977. She was married to Elton Gilliland, a civic leader and attorney, for 19 years until his death in 1998. On March 16, 2002, she married Charles Walker, a civic leader and business manager for Ector County Independent School District.
Frances was always vitally interested in making Odessa a better place in which to live. With this as one of her ultimate goals, she devoted her time and talents to her home, family, church, and community. For three decades she taught many young people in the Sunday School of the First Baptist Church of Odessa. She gave time and encouragement at the Door of Hope Mission.
Having belonged to Alpha Delta Pi while attending the University of Texas, Frances became a charter member of Pan-Hellenic and held various offices in the local organization including Chairman of the Well Baby Clinic. She served as co-chairman of the residential drive for funds for the Community Chest. She was Chairman of the Mothers March on Polio before the Salk vaccine was discovered.
Feeling that good music was vital to the community, Frances gave many hours to the Odessa Symphony Guild and the Odessa Symphony Association. She held various offices in the Guild including two terms as President. She is past member of the joint board of the Midland-Odessa Symphony.
Frances served on the Board of Directors of Permian Bank & Trust. As a member of the Women’s Auxiliary to Medical Center Hospital, she was VP and contributed many hours of service. Her interests were varied and included many facets of the world scene. As a member of the Pan-American Roundtable, she worked to promote harmony between the United States and Latin America. During her lifetime she traveled to 112 countries on every continent throughout the world. The Thursday Study Club was a vital part of her activities. She has held every office in this organization. She served as president of the Women’s Forum in 1968-69.
Frances was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Clay Esmond. She is survived by her husband Charles Walker of Odessa, son Steve Esmond of Irvine, California, daughter Carolyn Esmond Tweedie of Phoenix, Arizona, daughter-in-law Diane Esmond Kendall of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren: Richard Esmond, Greg Esmond, Chris Esmond, Matt Tweedie, Aaron Tweedie, Bryan Tweedie, and Amy Esmond; and four great-grandchildren: Kayla Esmond, Ross Esmond, Rylee Esmond, and Degan Tweedie.
Visitation will be held at Frank Wilson Funeral Directors from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 13, 2005. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Odessa at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 14, 2005 with the Rev. Bailey Stone officiating. Services entrusted to Frank Wilson Funeral Directors. She will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Gardens following the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Odessa, or Hospice/Odyssey Health Care.

Dorothy Mae Beam
Odessa - Dorothy Mae Beam, 83, of Odessa passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2005, at Midland Memorial Hospital. She was born December 16, 1921, in Bokchito, OK to Joe & Sally Miller. She worked for Sewell Ford for 48 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She married Doris Ross Beam on January 31, 1943. He preceded her in death May 2, 1983
She is survived by her son, Clayton Andrew Beam of Odessa, daughters, Doris Ann Mackey of Breckenridge, Janice Rhea of Odessa & Beverly Wren of Big Spring, brother, Don C. Miller of Odessa, sisters, Lometa Doss of Kerrville, Doris Lee Rice of Odessa, Sue Forrest of Kerrville, 8 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren & 4 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2005 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Curtis Brewer officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Dr. Vierdonia Mae Leopold
“Dr. V. Mae”
Odessa - Vierdonia Mae Leopold, 93, Odessa, MO. died December 12, 2005 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Blue Springs, MO. She was a resident of New Haven Nursing Home in Odessa, MO.
V. Mae was born October 31, 1912, to Stanley and Bessie Shockey, in Oxford, KS, and grew up in Oxford and Winfield, KS.
She was married to Norman B. Leopold in Kirksville, MO on December 21, 1932.
She graduated High School in Winfield, KS in 1930. She attended Medical School at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine for two years, and graduated from Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1935.
She practiced medicine with her husband Dr. Norman Leopold at the Leopold Clinic, 503 N. Sam Houston, in Odessa. They had a family practice here for 45 years and retired in 1980.
Dr. V. Mae was a member of the Texas Osteopathic Medical Association, the American Osteopathic Association, and the House of Delegates of the Texas Osteopathic Association for 16 years and also the district Osteopathic Assoc. She was one of the founders of the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine, she served 10 years on the Board of Directors of that college, and received the Founder’s Medal in 1986. Dr. V. Mae and Dr. Norman were honored as Texas Practitioners of the year in 1968.
She was preceded in death by her husband Norman in 1981 and by siblings Hershel, Adron, Savinah and Louise.
Survivors include one brother, Winfred Shockey of Winfield, KS, son and daughter-in-law, Dr. David Leopold and Judith of Sierra Vista, AZ, daughter and son-in-law, Adair and David Carlyle, of Odessa, MO, daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Sarah Sue West and Fred of Benson, AZ, and 8 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, December 16, 2005 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 19800 E. Truman Rd. Independence, MO. or Wycliffe Bible Translators Acc#286005, P.O. Box 268005, Orlando, FL 32862-8200.

Ethel Mellie Noles
Marble Falls - Ethel Mellie Noles, 92, of Marble Falls, died December 13, 2005. Services will be Thursday, December 15 at 10:00 AM at First Baptist Church in Marble Falls with Max Copeland & Steve Peace officiating. Graveside service will be Friday, December 16 at 11:00 AM at Sardis cemetery in Rotan, Texas. Pallbearers will be Mark Nowlin, Pecos Nowlin, Tyson Nowlin of Rotan, TX, Bubba Smith of Portland, TX and Kenneth Talas of East Bernard, TX.
Born May 14, 1913 in Capitan, New Mexico, Ethel was the daughter of James Walker & Sallie Ophelia (Trimble) Yates. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her son Glenn Noles & wife Anita of Midland, TX; daughters: Francine Evans & husband Ed of Marble Falls, TX, Wanda Sparks of Corpus Christi, TX, Laura Britanee & husband Gene of Booneville, AR, stepdaughter Jeane Roberts & husband Bob of Granite Shoals, TX; sisters: Zula Eaton of Waco, TX, Elsie Hatcher & husband Curtis of Odessa, TX, and brother James Yates & wife Lillian of Mineral Wells, TX., 17 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by other relatives and close friends.
Ethel was preceded in death by the father of her children Rev. Jim Noles and her second husband Phil Hughes. Arrangements are under the direction of Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home of Marble Falls, TX.

Della Geraldine (Jerry) Strickland
Haskell - Jerry Strickland, age 76, ofAbilene, Texas, passed away Monday, December 12, 2005, at Mesa Springs Healthcare Center in Abilene, Texas.
Graveside services will be at 2:00 PM Saturday 17, 2005 at Willow cemetery in Haskell. Directed by Holden Mccauley Funeral Home of Haskell, Texas.
Open viewing will be held on Friday December 16, 2005 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Saturday from 8:00 AM until 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
Jerry was born on October 19, 1929 to Jess and Della Barton in Haskell, Texas. She married William Woody Strickland on February 20, 1951.
She is survived by her two daughters, Cindy Cooper of Florida and Lynda Wittig of Arizona; four sons, Bill Strickland of Buffalo Gap, Texas, Mark Strickland of Katy, Texas, David Strickland of LaPort, Texas, and Michael Strickland of Baird, Texas; one brother, Beuford Barton of Claremore, Okla.; fourteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and one brother.
Those wishing to memorialize Mrs. Strickland may make contributions to the American Cancer Society.

Christopher Taylor Foppiano
Odessa - Christopher Foppiano, 9, died at his home in Weatherford, Texas, on Saturday, November 12, 2005 after winning a three-year courageous and brave battle with brain cancer.
Christopher was a 2nd grader at Crockett Elementary in Weatherford, Texas. Although Christopher was not able to be a member of any recreational sports, his love for all sports was amazing. Christopher’s favorite team was the Green Bay Packers, with their quarterback Brett Favre being Christopher’s true hero. Christopher’s dream came true with a meeting of the two heroes. Christopher touched many lives through his journey and will continue to be a hero for all to look up to.
Many of Christopher’s wishes and dreams came true in his short life. He traveled to Hawaii for his Make-A-Wish 2004 trip to swim with the dolphins and he was also selected to go to Disney World in 2004 as one of Kidds Kids. The family also enjoyed a wonderful trip with the Dallas Ronald McDonald House to Six Flags in San Antonio.
Christopher leaves the following family to celebrate his life. His parents, mother, Christine Foppiano, and stepfather, Brian McKay, of Weatherford, TX; father, Nick Foppiano, and step-mother, Shanna Foppiano, of Odessa, TX; loving sisters, Sarah Crooks of Weatherford, TX; Carla Favazza of South Haven, MS; Kayla and Rebekkah Miller of Odessa, TX; and little Caitlin Foppiano of Odessa, TX; loving brothers, Nicholas Foppiano, Jr., of Odessa, TX; Michael Crooks of MS; and Mason McKay of Wolfe City, TX; grandparents, Shari McKay and Gary Pennington of Weatherford, TX; Rhonda and Lee Jones of Odessa, TX; Robert and Tracy Hudspeth of Washington, TX; great-grandmother, Lois “MiMi” Whitney of Odessa, TX. Christopher leaves many of his aunts and uncles with fond memories too. Scott McKay and Misty Morgan of Dallas, TX; Tony Foppiano of Lafayette, LA; Shonda and Ronnie Boren of Odessa, TX; Mandy and Shane Boren of Odessa, TX; cousins, Tyler and Jaden Boren of Odessa, TX.

Mary Josie Dominguez
Odessa - Mary Josie Dominguez, 54, of Odessa passed away on December 24, 2005 at Medical Center hospital.
Josie was born in Roswell, New Mexico to Geneva Jimenez on March 22, 1951. She was a Medical Records Clerk at Medical Center Hospital, in Odessa, Texas.
Josie Dominguez was a lover of Jesus. She saw the vision divine (Christ and the Church) and found the secret of the God-man living, which she shared with many open hearts. Her life was a pattern of love, kindness, and generosity. The fifty-four years she spent on this earth were a gift from God.
“I have fought the good fight. I have finished the course; I have kept the faith. Henceforth, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, with which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will recompense me in that day, and not only me but also all those who have loved His appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8
Services celebrating her life will be held on Tuesday December 27th, 2005 at 10 A.M., at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Dominguez is survived by her husband Ismael Dominguez of Odessa; daughter, Elizabeth Marie Baeza, and her granddaughter Emily Marguerite Baeza, of Odessa; son, Benjamin Dominguez of Odessa; brothers, Frank Jimenez, of Belle Chasse, Louisiana; Leroy Jimenez and Arthur Jimenez both of Roswell, New Mexico; sister, Margie Gonzalez of Midland, Texas.
Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Goldmon Martin
Midland - Goldmon Martin passed away Thursday, December 22, 2005 in Odessa, Texas.
He was born November 26, 1914 to Riley Martin and Ersie Smithee Martin in Mountain View, Arkansas. Goldmon was raised and educated in Okemah, Oklahoma. On July 28, 1935, he married Eunice Helen Garrett. In 1951, he joined El Paso Natural Gas in Jal, New Mexico, and was transferred to Midkiff, Texas in 1954. He retired in 1980 and moved to Midland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Eunice Martin, daughter, Earnestine Gibson, brother, Kennell Martin, and sister, Iva Branscum.
Goldmon is survived by his daughter, Vicki Cashion of Odessa, TX; three grandchildren, Greg Gibson of El Paso, TX; Kim Vickers of Odessa, TX; and Kevin Vickers of Odessa, TX; three great-grandchildren, Keva Steen of Midland, TX; Chelsee Imler of Odessa, TX; and Dylon Vickers of Odessa, TX; three great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 27, 2005, at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland with Reverend Bob Porterfield officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas 79701 (432) 683-5555.

Burl Haidacher
SUGARLAND - Burl Haidacher, 59, passed away Dec. 3 in Missouri City.
Burl was born Oct. 17, 1946, in Edinburg. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He graduated from the University of Houston Optometry School and practiced optometry in Odessa and Copperas Cove for over 30 years.
He was dedicated member of the United Methodist Church.
Burl was a devoted husband to Beth, caring father to Joe and Michelle and loving grandfather “Opa” to Sydney. He was preceded in death by his parents and daughter Michelle.
He is survived by his wife, Beth, his son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Robin, granddaughter Sydney, sister, Paulette and many other close family members.
A memorial service will be held at Christ United Methodist Church in Sugarland on Dec. 27 at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the MDA, ALS division or Christ United Methodist Church in Sugarland.
