Helen L. Whitman

FORT STOCKTON - Services for Helen L. Whitman, 100, of Fort Stockton was held September 30, 2005 at 10 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Jim Miles officiating.
Interment followed at East Hill cemetery under the direction of Fort Stockton Funeral Home.
Mrs. Whitman died Sept. 27, 2005 in Fort Stockton. She was born May 18, 1905, in Cherokee, Iowa. She was a homemaker and has lived in Fort Stockton since 1924. She was Presbyterian.
Survivors include her son, Richard E. Gray and wife Barbara of Galveston; daughter, Kathryn Calhoun and husband Jim of Dallas; three grandchildren, Sandy Conklin and husband Ed of Clifton, N.J., Glen Calhoun of Austin, and Daniel Calhoun of Dallas; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Rev. Donald N. Hungerford

SAN ANTONIO - The Reverend Donald N. Hungerford, 78, priest of the Diocese of Northwest Texas, passed away Tuesday, October 4, 2005.
After serving with the USA 3rd Army of Occupation in Heidelberg, Germany from 1945 to 1947, Fr. Hungerford, a native of Hartford, CT graduated from Trinity College, Hartford. He next entered Berkeley Seminary at Yale in New Haven, CT. and graduated in 1954.
He was ordained deacon in 1954 and priest in 1955 after serving as Curate at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Manchester, CT, he moved to Texas where he became Vicar of St. John’s, Snyder and All Saints’, Colorado City. In 1959, he became Rector of St. Mary’s, Big Spring, TX and in 1966 became Rector at St. John’s, Odessa, TX.
In 1985 on a sabbatical he studied under Alister McGrath at Wycliffe College in Oxford and went to Australia in 1986 to be exchange Rector of St. Peter and St. Paul’s Anglican Church at Pt. Pirie in South Australia. In 1989 he retired at St. John’s Odessa. Following his retirement he was Interim Rector at Christ Episcopal Church in Rolla, Missouri, Church of Heavenly Rest in Abilene, TX where he also was Interim Head Master at St. John’s School.
Later he was Interim Rector at St. John’s, New Braunfels, TX and then Interim Rector at St. Francis by the Lake, Canyon Lake, TX. He ws Interim Rector at St. George, San Antonio, from 1994 to 1995 and was again Interim Rector at St. George in 2004 until March 2005, when the progression of his illness caused him to retire.
Surviving wife, Edith: 3 daughters; Ellen Schweers, Elizabeth Baker, Harriet Manning. One son, Donald L. Hungerford. One sister, Thelma Moyle; 4 brothers; Rodney, Kenneth, Charles and Richard; and 3 grandchildren.
Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. today at St. George Episcopal Church, 6904 West Ave., followed by a reception. The Rt. Rev. James E. Folts and the Rev. Ram Lopez officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to St. George Episcopal Church or to The ALS Association.

Tommie Lewis Murphey

ODESSA - Tommie Lewis Murphey, 71, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2005 at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born June 1, 1934 in Montague County, TX. He was a pumper in the oilfield and an active member of the Vine Avenue Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by his wife Susie Murphey, parents Lizzie and Wesley Murphey, brothers, LeeRoy Murphey, H.L. Murphey and granddaughter, Suzanna Gage.
He is survived by his sons, Dale Reese of Ft. Worth, Tony Gray and wife Sue of Minot AFB, N.D., Daniel Gray of Odessa, Thomas Murphey and wife Cheryl of Mineral Wells, Mark Murphey of Ruston, Terry Murphey and wife Kim of Greenwood, Kenneth Murphey of Odessa, daughters, Cynthia OKeefe and husband Mike of Muskogee, OK., Debbie Langston and husband Gene of Odessa, Melissa Gage and husband Ferel of Palo Pinto, and Vicki Fulton of Brownfield, brothers, Robert Murphey and wife Betty of San Angelo, Kenneth Murphey and wife Jo of Odessa, grandchildren, Curtis, Cheri, Barbie, David, Chris, Charity, Zack, Chris, Matthew, Shandra, Brandie, Kimberly, Cody, Courtney, Danielle, Stormy, Devin, Abby, Megan, Terry Lee, Timmy, Kaitlin, Summer, Tye, Autumn, Savannah and Uriah, (19) great-grandchildren and many loved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2005 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Johnny Touchstone and Rev. Amon Langston officiating,
Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Alfred ‘Sonny’ Murray Groesbeck

Odessa - Alfred “Sonny” Murray Groesbeck died in a vehicle accident near Tatum, NM on December 31,2005. He was born to William “Bill” Murray Groesbeck and Eunice Groesbeck on Wednesday, May 3, 1950 at Seton Hospital in Austin, TX. Bill and Eunice were long time residents of Hobbs, NM and former residents of Odessa, TX.
Sonny attended grade school in Ozona, TX, junior high and high school in Odessa TX and graduated high school in 1969 at Lee High School in Midland, TX. He entered the US Army in 1970 and served in Vietnam from January 1971 to December 22, 1971.
Sonny worked with his dad at WMG Oil Inc in Crossroads, NM as well and private companies in and around Hobbs, Lovington and Tatum, NM for 25 years.
Sonny is survived by his two sons, Ryon Thomas Groesbeck, 19 of Tatum, NM, currently a student at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX and William Trey Groesbeck 18, of Tatum, NM, currently a student at (New Mexico Stale University) in Las Cruces, NM.
One brother, Don Groesbeck of Dayton, TX.
A sister, Jann Jones and husband Don of Odessa, TX; their 2 sons, Bill Jones and James Jones both of Austin, TX.
A sister, Shirley Roberts and husband Kerry of Buda, TX; son Cody and daughter Christie both of Buda, TX.
Services will be at Stevens Funeral Home in Lovington, NM Saturday, January 7, 2006 at 10:00 AM with burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens at 3:00 PM in Odessa, TX. Sonny will be laid to rest beside his mother and father.

Charles ‘Chock’ Holt

Odessa - Charles Holt, 74, of Odessa passed away January 3, 2006 at Hospice House.
Chock was born in Wink, Texas on January 31, 1931 to Sam and Neda Carriger Holt.
He was married on August 20, 1955 to Lois Coursey in Pyote, Texas and celebrated their 50th anniversary this past August.
He graduated from Pyote High School in 1949, served in U.S. Air Force from 1950 to 1954 and graduated from Texas A&M with an engineering degree in 1958.
He retired from Reed Tool Company with over 30 years of service as an engineer and was fondly known as “The Bit Doctor” out in the oilfield.
He was a member of the professional engineer association and served for many years as a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, bird watching, and MOJO football!
He loved woodworking & photography but most of all he dearly loved his wife, children, grand & great grandchildren, his sister & twin brother, his nieces & nephews, the in-laws and outlaws!
He is survived by his wife Lois, daughter Deann Messa of Houston, daughter Janis & husband Mark Farquhar of Midland, son Rusty Holt and Wife Cindy of Midland, sister Bonnie Guthrie of Burnett, TX and twin brother Bob Holt & wife Linda of San Antonio, Texas, five grandchildren Mason Williams, Heather Hartman, John Crambell, Amber Messa, and Brittney Brown. Four great grandchildren Sebastian, Ashton & Julian Williams and Zackary Hartman.
A memorial celebration service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday January 7th at Asbury United Methodist Church in Odessa, Texas.
Memorials may be made to Hospice House of Odessa and to Asbury United Methodist Church.

LeRoy W. Jennings

Andrews - Profound love of God, country and family exemplifies the life of longtime Andrews resident LeRoy W. Jennings. He passed away peacefully at his home on Wednesday, January 4, 2006 after a courageous 2 year battle with esophageal cancer.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 7, 2006 at the First Baptist Church in Andrews with Dr. Jeff Donnell and Doug Kello officiating. Burial will follow in the Andrews Old cemetery under the direction of McNett Funeral Home.
LeRoy was born on September 18, 1923, the only child of G.C. and Nettie Jennings in Coweta, Oklahoma. In 1942 at the age of 18, LeRoy enlisted in the US Army Air Force and became a glider pilot. He was part of the Battle of Normandy, as well as the invasion of southern France and Europe. He married Mary Beth Langford on February 3, 1946 in Nocona, Texas. LeRoy worked in Gainesville, Texas as an electrician before moving to Andrews in 1949. He then worked 36 years for Sinclair and ARCO, retiring in 1985. After retirement he enjoyed golf, fishing, dominoes, loved the outdoors, and spent many happy hours gardening. LeRoy was a long time member of the First Baptist Church, where he served many years on the funeral meals committee. He and his wife, Mary delivered Meals-On-Wheels for over 13 years. He was also a member of the Andrews Country Club, Andrews Masonic Lodge #1024, and the Shriners. LeRoy devoted his life to loving and caring for his family and was a devoted husband and father. Each day was a gift to cherish and LeRoy enjoyed it to the fullest.
LeRoy is survived by the love of his life, Mary Beth Jennings of Andrews. They would have celebrated their 60th anniversary on February 3, 2006. He is also survived by two daughters, who were the light of his life: Cheri McLennan and husband, Mike of Midland and Jan Anderson and husband, Hal of Belton; 4 grandchildren: Scott, Kristi, Kyle, and Kendall; 2 great grandchildren: Rebecca and Jasmine.

C.B. Walters, Jr.

Odessa - C.B. Walters, Jr., 67, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born October 13, 1938 in Des Arc, Arkansas to his parents, Clarence Bernal, Sr. & Ruby Sadie Winbery Walters.
He is survived by his wife of 41+ years, Gayle (Goode) Walters of Odessa, son, Chris Walters and wife, Stacey of Odessa, daughter, Melissa Conklin of Odessa, also daughter, Robin Creel and husband, Bob of Alba, TX and son Leigh Walters and wife, Denise of Liberty, TX, 2 brothers, Sherman Walters and wife Sue of Lovington, NM, Donald Walters and wife, Sue of Rockyface, GA, 3 sisters, Maxine Strickland and husband Claude, of Rendon, TX, Sherron Brimingham and husband, Gary of Wautauga, TX, and Sandra Dalton and husband, Jerry of Arlington, TX and 6 Grandchildren and 2 step grandchildren.
Mr. Walters was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Ralph Edward Walters and a sister, Deloris Price Rodriquez.
He was a veteran in the U.S. Army, having served 4 years. He was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. He worked for Merchants Motor Lines until he went into construction work in 1968. He was a welder and a pipefitter. He was in steel sales with Waltco Metals and Trio Metals, and in later years sold health and life insurance. He became a born again Christian in 1971 and became a minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. He pastored, evangelized, and worked in the street ministry. He loved playing and singing gospel music and studying the Bible. We will miss him.
Family visitation will be 6-9 PM, Friday, January 6, 2006 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 7, 2006 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with Rev. John Wynkoop, Gayle Walters, Dawn Riddle and Lois Bunch officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. There will be a gathering for the family and friends with a meal served at Odessa Gospel Lighthouse, 4800 NE Loop 338, after the service.
Rev. 14: 12 & 13, Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Ronald ‘Bunny’ Williams

Odessa - Ronald “Bunny” Williams age 47 of Winston Salem, NC passed away Saturday December 31, 2005 at Forsyth Medical Center.
Memorial Services will be held at St. James Baptist Church Saturday January 7, 2006 at 2:00 pm.Ronald “Bunny” Williams was born July 8, 1958 in Odessa, Texas to Elzie and Pecolia Williams of Odessa, Texas.
He was a devoted son, father and brother and will be truly missed by family and friends.
Bunny was survived by his mother Pecolia Williams of Odessa, TX. His children Sharonda, Ronald Jr., and J’Chelle all of North Carolina. His brother Bobby Williams of Big Spring, TX, sisters Sandra Kay Williams of Midland, TX and Beverly Ann Williams of Odessa, TX. 5 nieces and 2 nephews, and 7 great nephews, 4 great nieces all of Odessa and Midland, TX.
He was preceded in death by his father Elzie Williams.
Ronald “Bunny” Williams will be truly missed by all family and friends.
