Mary Adna Jones

Odessa - Mary Adna Jones passed away on Friday, November 18, 2005 at the age of 84. Mary was born in Celeste, Texas on January 14, 1921. After graduating from Odessa High School, she attended Texas Tech University and went on to start her first job working for the railroad in Odessa. She worked for Dunn’s Van Lines for several years and later retired from Tripp Construction Company in Odessa, where she worked as a bookkeeper for 34 years. She was very good in math and enjoyed her job. Mom was an avid animal lover and often talked about her pet chicken and Collie she had as a child. She enjoyed collecting dolls, crocheting and loved to dance when she was younger.
After retirement she lived alone and was helped by her son Terry, daughter-in-law Debbie and grandson Dean who was very close to her. During the last several years of her life, she moved to live with her daughter Linda and son-in-law Johnny in Euless, Texas. Her daughter Sandy and son-in-law Max were also a big help to her during this time. When living with her daughter Linda, she came to know Mary Crawford, who came to be her very good friend and caretaker. Mom suffered from Alzheimer’s during her later years and was cared for by her daughter Linda and son-in-law, Johnny until her death. Her grandson, Duane, loved to buy his Granny stuffed funny animals that she really enjoyed. Her granddaughter, Paula, from California was able to come and visit her the last weeks of her life. Although I was not there when Mom passed away, she was not alone, God was there with her and took her into his kingdom.
Her parents Mary & John Mitcham, her daughter Sandy Driggers and her husband of 16 years, “Jonsey” Jones preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son Terry Kappes and daughter-in-law Debbie of Odessa, her daughter Linda Stigler and son-in-law Johnny of Euless, her son-in-law Max Driggers of Austin, 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren, her close friend and caregiver Mary Crawford of Azle and long-time friend Jodi McGee of Midland. Lastly, her two dogs Peaches & Sugar, whom she loved dearly and who miss her very much, survive her.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Max Driggers officiating. Interment was at Rosehill cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in her name.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

George Howard Burt

Sweetwater - Graveside services for George Howard Burt, 75, of Conroe, Texas will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at 11:00 A.M. in the
Sweetwater cemetery in Sweetwater, Texas with Pastor David Henry officiating.
The family will receive friends at Conroe Funeral Directors on Monday, October 17, 2005 from 3:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Mr.
Burt was born on November 17, 1929 in Nolan County, Texas and passed away on Thursday, October 13, 2005 in Conroe, Texas. He was a caring man who loved life, fishing and especially his loving family. Mr. Burt also held a special place in his heart for all of his dear friendships that he had made over the years. He was preceded in death by his son, Eddie Burt. Survivors: Daughters and sons-in-law, Georgia and Wade Deeds, and Vicki and Chuck Froud; Son and daughter-in-law, Dwayne and Peggy Burt; ten grandchildren and twenty six great grandchildren; and all of his friends in San Angelo, Odessa, Midland and Conroe.

James Henry ‘Jim’ Lemons

Big Spring - James Henry “Jim” Lemons died on Friday, October 14, 2005, at the age of 80. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, October 18, 2005, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dennis Teeters, pastor, officiating. He will be assisted by Rev. James Mitchell of San Angelo.
The family will receive friends from 7 PM to 9 PM Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Lemons was born on May 15, 1925 in Mineola, Texas, the only child of John Henry Lemons and Reba Carson Lemons. The family moved to Big Spring in 1935. Mr. Lemons graduated from Big Spring High School in 1944. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably in World War II, and later in the Korean Conflict. He attended Iowa State University and Texas A&M University, majoring in electrical engineering. He was employed by Texas Electric for 45 years, before retiring in 1985. He worked and lived in O’Donnell and Odessa, Texas before returning to Big Spring in 1964.
Mr. Lemons was active in his community and belonged to various service organizations throughout his life. While in O’Donnell (1952 - 1958), he supervised all of Texas Electric’s operations and was a volunteer firefighter. In Odessa (1958 - 1964), he was the commercial sales representative for Texas Electric, and established the first Jaycee’s Club and was active in Jaycee’s and the American Business Club. After returning to Big Spring, he was an officer in the Rotary Club, and President and District Governor for the Downtown Lion’s Club. Mr. Lemons was a Deacon and Sunday School teacher at First Baptist Church. He was a Director for the Electric Utilities Credit Union, where he was a charter member. He ran a small ranching and farming operation in Luther, and enjoyed buying livestock for Texas Electric from local youth.
Mr. Lemons married Rhoda Miller on June 3, 1950. His lovely bride was the daughter of a local ranching and pioneer family. She predeceased her husband on February 24, 2000. Mr. Lemons was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
He is survived by his two daughters, Xan Lemons Seely of Luther and Lisa Lemons Nichols of San Angelo; his grandchildren, Tonya Spence and husband, Garry, of Big Spring, Zack Seely of Big Spring, Melanie Settles and husband, Mark, of Big Spring, Joseph Seely and wife, Mandy, of San Antonio, Camilla Correa and husband, Mike, of Big Spring, CharitiXan Stephens and husband, Eric, of Austin, MeLissa Munden and husband, Cody, of San Angelo and Trey Nichols of San Angelo, and 14 great grandchildren, whom he loved dearly. The family also wishes to include Richard Robertson and wife, Licia, of Big Spring and Kimberly Kennemur of Big Spring.
Pallbearers are his grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Honorary pallbearers are all Deacons of First Baptist Church. Richard Robertson will serve as law enforcement escort.
The family requests memorials be made to Texas A&M scholarship funds or Lions International.

Eleanor Lucille Bowling

Odessa - Eleanor Lucille Bowling, 78, received the desire of her heart when she joined her husband at the throne of Jesus on Oct. 13, 2005. Eleanor was born to Fred and Belva Hill on April 21, 1927, in Old Washington, Ohio. She received her nursing degree from Grant School of Nursing in Columbus, Ohio. She married Louis N. Bowling on May 2, 1951 and they enjoyed 38 years of marriage until his death on Oct. 27, 1989.
Grandmother Bowling was a registered nurse for over 50 years and enjoyed serving at church camps and children’s ministries at Grace Christian Fellowship where she was an active and beloved member.
She is survived by her four sons and daughters-in-law; Les Bowling and wife Donna of Odessa, TX, Louis N. Bowling II and wife Debbie of Red Oak, TX, Alan Bowling and wife Toni of Ft. Worth, TX, and Earl Bowling and wife Betty Jo of Bowling Green, KY. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A celebration of her life will be held at Grace Christian Fellowship, 1333 San Andres, Odessa, TX on Monday, October 17 at 2:00 P.M. The family request in lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Dallas Christian College, 2700 Christian Parkway, Dallas, TX 75234.

Mary Margaret Seegraves

Odessa - Mary Margaret Seegraves, 47, of Odessa passed away Thursday, October 13, 2005 in Odessa. She was a waitress for Pojos restaurant for 20 years. She was born November 27, 1957 in Pontiac, Michigan.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Fowler & Carol Lawrence both of Odessa, her life partner Fred Close of Midland, her brother and best friend Dave Anderson, sister, Penny Boris of Carlsbad, NM and granddaughter Whitney Fowler and grandson Tyler Justin Whitney. Aside from being a wonderful mother, she devoted 20 years to Pojos, a place that her and her family call home.
preceded in death by father Evan J. McNaughton, mother Alice McNaughton and beloved son Justin Lee Seegraves.
Memorial Services will be held 4:00 p.m. Monday, October 17, 2005 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dewey Blevins officiating.

Irene Milner Whiteside

Odessa - Irene Milner Whiteside …to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord. II Corinthians 5:8
Irene Milner Whiteside entered God’s presence on October 15, 2005 at the Hospice House in Odessa, TX. She was born on June 26, 1917 to Jack and Eula Milner in Sulpher Springs, TX. Irene married James Eli Whiteside on November 17, 1935. She resided in Odessa for many years and was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James Eli Whiteside; sister Louise Taylor and brother Billy Joe Milner.
Irene is survived by four children, James Whiteside and wife Diane of Tool, TX, Fred Whiteside and wife Debbie of Odessa, TX, Peggy Smith and husband Clinton of Midland, TX, Margaret Bullock and husband Melvin of Odessa, TX, and a sister Loveller Williams. She is also survived by eight grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, October 17, 2005 in the chapel of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry Berry of Kelview Heights Baptist Church officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

Mary Gail Randolph Pickering

Odessa - Mary Gail Randolph Pickering died Wednesday morning, September, 14, 2005, at her home in Odessa. She was born February 2, 1917, in Anadarko, Oklahoma, to Arthur James and Rowena Etta Randolph.
At a young age, her family moved to Sand Springs, Oklahoma where she attended school, graduating from high school in 1935. She attended The University of Oklahoma for two years where she met Lloyd Arthur Pickering. They married in Reno, Oklahoma on January 15, 1937. As the wife of a petroleum engineer, she moved many times during the marriage, living in Oklahoma, Kansas, Illinois, New Mexico, Texas and Louisiana.
After her children were grown, she became a nationally accredited flower show judge, attaining the status of Master. She judged many flower shows throughout New Mexico, Texas and Louisiana during the 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980’s. She accepted Emeritus status as her health began to fail. She was also a master at growing flowers. Her flower gardens were picked clean on many occasions to provide flowers for weddings, flower shows, church functions, and many other events.
She also served her church faithfully as Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher and director, Deacon, and member of many church committees over the years. She especially enjoyed cooking for and visiting the sick.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, her daughter, Jo Anne Pickering Douglass, and her brother, William Monsell Randolph. She is survived by a sister, Elizabeth McDaniels and her husband, Johnnie, of Owasso, Oklahoma; her son, Winston Lamont Pickering and wife, Judith, of Little Rock, Arkansas; their sons Timothy Scott Pickering and wife Vicki, of Topeka, Kansas, and Jason Randolph Pickering and wife, Kerrie, of Little Rock, Arkansas; daughter, Wyveta Pickering Reese and husband, Lynn, and their two daughters, Gail Reese Sims, and Rebecca Grace Reese, all of Odessa; granddaughter, Kimberli Denise Douglass Burns and husband, Michael, of Fort Worth; and five great-grandchildren, Caitlin Colleen Sims, Ashley Anne Burns, Sarah Kathleen Pickering, Emily Victoria Pickering, and Winston Andrew Pickering.
A private, family burial will be conducted at Sunset Memorial Gardens, followed by a memorial service at Westminster Presbyterian Church on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. The Rev. Robert Sams and the Rev. Jimmy Braswell will officiate.
The family expresses grateful thanks for exceptional care of Mother during her illness to Tina Frost, Rebecca Reese, Home Hospice and employees Jackie Freeman, Karen Safarov, Dana Bates, Snow Martinez, Dr. McLarey, and Rev. Jimmy Braswell; and her primary physician, Dr. Scott Sanford.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Home Hospice, Odessa, Lloyd Pickering Scholarship for Occupational Safety and Health at Odessa College, Jo Anne Pickering Douglas Scholarship at Odessa College or Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Martin Riley Price

Monahans - Martin Riley Price, age 68, of Monahans, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2005 at Ward Memorial Hospital. He was born December 25, 1936, in Delhi, Oklahoma, to M.F. and Goldie (Whiteside) Price.
He married Beverly Hawthorne on September 15, 1961, in Altus, Oklahoma. He served with the U.S. Army, and was self-employed with P&P Welding and Service. Martin accepted the Lord in 1971, and was a Baptist.
Services have been set for 11 a.m. Saturday, September 17, 2005 at Immanuel Baptist Church of Monahans. Burial will be in Monahans Memorial cemetery, with Reverend Craig Rhoten and Reverend Larry Bennett officiating. Services are under the direction of Harkey Family Funeral Services.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Price of Monahans, as well as 1 son, Jimmy Price and wife Doretta of Monahans, and 1 daughter, Gwen Wilson and husband David, of Paradise, Texas. Also, grandchildren Laramie Wilson, Hayden Wilson, Micah Wilson and wife Jackie, Casey Wilson, Zach Price and Riley Price, and 1 great-granddaughter, Hailey Wilson. Martin is also survived by his sisters Pat Failey and husband Bunk of Stinnett, Texas, Barbara Barrow and husband Buck of Skelleytown, Texas, and Janice Edwards of Arlington, Texas. Also surviving him are his “in-laws”, Buddy Hawthorne of Altus, Oklahoma, Dottie Taylor of Sunray, Texas, and Maxine Chaney of Amarillo, Texas, as well as his dog “FiFi” and numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Dolores Valen Theodore

Odessa - Dolores Valen Theodore, 79, passed away September 13, 2005, at Medical Center Hospital, in Odessa, Texas.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 1:00pm, on Saturday the 17th, of September, in the Chapel at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Dolores was born November 17, 1925 in New York City, New York to Charles Van Valen and Anna Maria Cartalano. She was raised and educated in New York City Public School System, and lived most of her life in southern New Jersey, she was married to Andrew George Theodore, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Theodore was a retired school librarian, for the Margate City School System and also as a receptionist for the Jewish Community Center in Margate, New Jersey. Dolores was a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church. She always dreamed of being a ‘cowgirl’ in Texas. She adored horses, cowboys, country and western music and George Strait. Her hobbies included gardening, and reading.
Dolores is survived by her brother; Raymond Valen and his wife, Lois, of St. Paul, Minnesota, her four sons; Steven Charles Flanagan, an Attorney at Law in Los Angeles, California, Andrew Scott Theodore, a Receptionist in San Diego, California, Gregory George Theodore, a Physician in Odessa, Texas, and William Stuart Theodore, a Manager of Home Depot in Bullhead City, Arizona. She is also survived by her five grandchildren: Julie Flanagan, William Theodore, Jason Theodore, Bosco Theodore, and William Flanagan, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home, 6801 E. Highway 80, Odessa, Texas (432) 362-2331.

Hattie P. Wilson

Odessa - Hattie P. Wilson, 90, a retired beautician, was born Sept.23, 1914, in Chicota, Texas, to Pearl and Luther Cots Vanderburg. She passed away Monday, September 12, in Odessa.
Hattie married Archie Wilson in Pampa, Tx., in 1935. They were divorced in 1951. From that union two sons were born. Hattie moved to Odessa in 1938, where she lived for the remainder of her life. Hattie was a longtime member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she faithfully attended services until her health declined.
Hattie was predeceased by her parents, five brothers, Cleo, Coy, Jack, Dub and Harry Vanderburg, one grandson, Steve Wilson, and Steve’s mother, Jackie Sue Wilson Bigelow.
She is survived by sons Lonny Wilson and wife, Jackie, of Odessa and Jerry Wilson of Lubbock; sisters: Charlene Cooper of Odessa, and Retha Coleman of Gun Barrel, Tx, sister-in-law: Martha, Edna, Robbie Jo, Laverne, and Elna Vanderburg; grandchildren: Kellye Johnson, Max Wilson, Russell Wilson and wife, Linda, of Odessa; great grandchildren: Stevie and Cole Johnson, of Odessa, Richard, Kristyn, and Katilyn Wilson of Abilene, Sean Bradley of Odessa and Shannon Bradley of Houston, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Services are Friday, September 16 th, at 10 a.m., at Frank Wilson Chapel. Memorials may be made to the Boys and Girls Club of Odessa, or Home Hospice.
