A. M. ‘Slim’ Gabrel
Odessa - A. M.”Slim” Gabrel, 84, a long time resident of Odessa passed away Monday, October 10, 2005 at his residence. He was born May 5, 1921 in Haskell County to Alfred Calvery and Lela Henry Gabrel. He married
Lorena May Savage November 26, 1941 in Pampa, TX.
He served with the 26th Platoon in the U.S. Marine Corp. during WWII. He was the Sheriff of Ector County from 1957 to 1972, he was the first sheriff to be elected for a four year term in Ector County. He was the past president in 1968 & 1969 and lifetime member of the Sheriff’s Association of Texas. He was a lifetime member of the Ector County Sheriff’s Posse. A career which included over 30 years of service with various law enforcement agencies in Texas, including the Odessa Police Department, The Ector County Sheriff’s Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety, License and Weight Division.
He was the past owner of Gabrel’s Surplus and present owner of S.L.S. Co. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Margie Louise Hogan, and Winona Fincher.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lorena Gabrel of Odessa, son, W.O. Shafer Gabrel and wife Delyn of Katy, TX. brothers, C.H. (Pug) Gabrel of Woodward, OK. Burl Dean Gabrel of Alamogordo, NM. sisters, Ina Mae Johns of Odessa, and Ima Jean Fuller of Alamogordo, NM. (2) grandchildren, Karson Shafer Gabrel and Karli Kay Gabrel both of Katy and dozens of very special nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
There will be a visitation 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2005 at the First United Pentecostal Church with Rev. Terry Pugh officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family would like donations to be made to Home Hospice of Odessa or the Blepherospasm Research Foundation at P.O. Box 12468, Beaumont, TX. 77726 (this is a neurological disorder which his daughter-in-law Delyn is affected.)
Pallbearers will be Dr. Michael Parekh, Eric Parekh, Walt Greeman, Sr., Walt Greeman, Jr., Mike French, Don Reeves, Marlin Reeves, and Mark Thomas. Honorary pallbearers will include Will Wadell, Jack Brown, Troy Chaffin, Robert Chapa, Earl Kyzer, Jack Tidwell, Lynn Beal, Judge Bill McCoy, Judge Tyron Lewis, and 1957 to 1972 all deputys and staff of the Ector County Sheriff’s Department who Slim referred to as the finest group of men and women in law enforcement.

Calvin Ray ‘John’ Hart
ODESSA - Calvin Ray “John” Hart, 51, passed away October 9, 2005 at Medical Center Hospital.
Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 15, in the Pilgrim cemetery in Ranger, Texas. The family will receive visitors 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors in Odessa.
He was born in Brownfield, Texas on December 4, 1953. He attended Calvary Baptist and Caprock Baptist Church. He worked as a mechanic and enjoyed restoring antique cars. He married
Denise Parks on November 7, 1973 in Pecos.
He is preceded in death by Jean Hart of Pecos.
He is survived by his wife Denise Hart of Odessa, sons John Ray Hart of Paducah, Kentucky, James Scott Hart of Amarillo; mother and step father Mary and Doug Fletcher of Roland, OK; brothers Jason Fletcher of Odessa, Jerry Hart of Louisiana; sisters Sissy Hart of Roland, OK, Rosemary Hart, Dianne Johnson of Summit, Mississippi; grandchildren Bobby, Lauren, Chelsey, Joshua, Sarah, Noah, Malicha, Bryndee and Orion.

Frances Esmond Walker
Odessa - Frances Esmond Walker, 82 years old, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 10, 2005. Frances was born October 24, 1922 in Lamesa, Texas to the pioneer family of M.C. Lindsey and Tommie Lindsey. Her father was one of the organizers of the Town of Lamesa and served as the first County Judge of Dawson County and was well known to the development of the area.
Frances was reared in Lamesa, graduated from Lamesa High School, and earned a degree in business from the University of Texas at Austin. In 1946 she moved to Odessa after marrying Kenneth E. Esmond, a civic leader and engineer, for 33 years until his death in 1977. She was married
to Elton Gilliland, a civic leader and attorney, for 19 years until his death in 1998. On March 16, 2002, she married
Charles Walker, a civic leader and business manager for Ector County Independent School District.
Frances was always vitally interested in making Odessa a better place in which to live. With this as one of her ultimate goals, she devoted her time and talents to her home, family, church, and community. For three decades she taught many young people in the Sunday School of the First Baptist Church of Odessa. She gave time and encouragement at the Door of Hope Mission.
Having belonged to Alpha Delta Pi while attending the University of Texas, Frances became a charter member of Pan-Hellenic and held various offices in the local organization including Chairman of the Well Baby Clinic. She served as co-chairman of the residential drive for funds for the Community Chest. She was Chairman of the Mothers March on Polio before the Salk vaccine was discovered.
Feeling that good music was vital to the community, Frances gave many hours to the Odessa Symphony Guild and the Odessa Symphony Association. She held various offices in the Guild including two terms as President. She is past member of the joint board of the Midland-Odessa Symphony.
Frances served on the Board of Directors of Permian Bank & Trust. As a member of the Women’s Auxiliary to Medical Center Hospital, she was VP and contributed many hours of service. Her interests were varied and included many facets of the world scene. As a member of the Pan-American Roundtable, she worked to promote harmony between the United States and Latin America. During her lifetime she traveled to 112 countries on every continent throughout the world. The Thursday Study Club was a vital part of her activities. She has held every office in this organization. She served as president of the Women’s Forum in 1968-69.
Frances was preceded in death by her son, Dr. Clay Esmond. She is survived by her husband Charles Walker of Odessa, son Steve Esmond of Irvine, California, daughter Carolyn Esmond Tweedie of Phoenix, Arizona, daughter-in-law Diane Esmond Kendall of Houston, Texas; six grandchildren: Richard Esmond, Greg Esmond, Chris Esmond, Matt Tweedie, Aaron Tweedie, Bryan Tweedie, and Amy Esmond; and four great-grandchildren: Kayla Esmond, Ross Esmond, Rylee Esmond, and Degan Tweedie.
Visitation will be held at Frank Wilson Funeral Directors from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, October 13, 2005. Funeral services will be held at the First Baptist Church of Odessa at 2:00 pm on Friday, October 14, 2005 with the Rev. Bailey Stone officiating. Robert W. ‘Bob’ Clanton
Odessa - Robert W. “Bob” Clanton, 60, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, October 12, 2005 at the Veterans Medical Center in Albuquerque, N.M. He was born March 2, 1945 in Kermit to William Henry Clanton & Velma Lora (Jones) Clanton. He attended school in Odessa and graduated from O.H.S. in 1963. He attended Texas Tech. He proudly served his country in Vietnam with a battlefield commission of 2nd LT. He was discharged in August 1969 with a permanent rank of Sgt.
After his discharge from the Army Bob married
and was blessed with a baby girl, Robin, who was his pride & joy. Her mother, Georgia, preceded him in death. Bob resumed his education at UT Arlington and received a BA in accounting & eventually a BA in Criminal Justice and a masters in Business Administration from UTPB in Odessa. After working as an accountant and as a tax fraud investigator for the State Comproller’s office, Bob found his calling in Law Enforcement. He served with the Dallas Police Department and then returned to Odessa and joined the Odessa Police Dept., where he worked until his retirement in 1999.
Bob will be remembered by his friends and loved ones as a hard worker who loved his “Mutt dogs” and who would lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, one brother and a nephew.
He is survived by his daughter, Robin Mills & husband Paul of Arlington, brothers William “Tuffy” Clanton & wife June of West Palm Beach, FL and Tommy Clanton of Ft. Worth, 4 nephews & numerous cousins. Bob is also survived by his ex-wife, Gayle Clanton.
Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2005 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with Rev. Bob Bell officiating. Interment will follow at the Monahans Memorial cemetery in Monahans.

Lora Ruth Young Marsh
Odessa - Lora Ruth Young Marsh, 75, of Austin passed away Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at the Heritage Duval Gardens Nursing Home in Austin. She was born April 18, 1930 in Arlington, Texas to Tinie Marie Mahurin & Ira Leland Young, Sr. She spent her childhood in Arlington and graduated from Arlington Heights High School. She attended Odessa College. She moved to Odessa and started in the banking business with ABC Bank on Grant St. She spent many years with Beneficial Finance Co. and Ervin Plumbing Co.
She was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughters, Lori Lacey & husband Lewis of Odessa & Kim Jordan & husband Len of Austin, brother, Mike & wife Twilley Young of Odessa, (6) grandchildren: Seth Hedgpeth, Caleb Hedgpeth & Lucas Lacey all of Odessa, Jason Jordan, Steven & Cindy Woods of Austin, and (4) great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services will be held 4:00 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2005 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with Rev. Emmett Barnard officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

William Shane Walters
Huntington William Shane Walters, 28, of Stephenville, ended his courageous battle with leukemia Thursday, October 13, 2005. Shane was born March 3, 1977, the second child of Keith and Judy Walters. He was diagnosed with leukemia in July of 2001. His bravery and strength through the illness have been an inspiration to his family and friends.
Shane spent his childhood and attended school in Odessa where he was a graduate of Permian High School’s class of 1995. He was a talented drummer in the Permian Panther Band. For the past eight years he had served as a committed production manager for Outlaw Conversions in Stephenville. He loved his job, and developed many friendships in the company, as well as with his outside customers and vendors.
Shane was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Thelma Smith of Odessa; and by his uncle, Gary Walters of Huntington. Shane and “Uncle Gary” enjoyed a unique friendship, being alike in their unique personalities and sense of humor.
Survivors include the love of his life and ever-present support, Rebecca Atteberry of Stephenville, his parents, Keith and Judy Walters of Conroe, his brother and sister-in-law, Chad and Krictina Walters of Greenwood, Texas, his brother, Eric Walters of Stephenville, aunts and uncles, Beverly and Tom Havard and Brenda Walters of Huntington, Philip and June Smith of Conroe, Dennis and Sandi Smith of Ada, Oklahoma and Mary Moreno of California. His surviving grandparents are Quinton and Nelda Walters of Huntington. He also has a number of nieces, nephews and cousins to cherish his memory, as well as his very special friend, John Walker.
Shane will also be greatly missed by his two dogs, Gus and Lilly. They were his only “children” and they had the privilege of knowing the love of a special master.
Serving as pallbearers are Cory Hines, Adam Nerren, Keith Palmer, Casey Vines, Shanin Vinson, John Walker, and his brothers, Chad Walters and Eric Walters.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday evening at the funeral home in Huntington. Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 16, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. in the Huntington First Baptist Church with Dr. Darryl Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Huntington cemetery.

Odessa - Louis C. Cavin 56, of Goldsmith passed away Monday October 17, 2005 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
Funeral services will be 10:00 am Wednesday, October 19, 2005 in the Frank Wilson Chapel with Rev. Matthew Gard officiating. Graveside services will be 3:00 pm Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at Potosi cemetery in Potosi, Texas. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 7:00 pm Tuesday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors in Odessa.
He was born October 17, 1949 in Odessa. He attended private school in Oklahoma. He worked as a brick layer, and in the oil field business. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Goldsmith.
He is survived by his stepfather Harvey Moore, daughter Connie Eggleston of Boulder CO.; sisters Joy Simpkins and husband Bob of Odessa, Kay Cavin of Dallas, Becky Cavin of Pittsburg, TX, Tonnie Robinson of San Angelo; brother Billy Barrow and wife Paula of San Angelo.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tom Fife, Sam Fife, Abe Scott, Bennie Cope and the Goldsmith Volunteer Fire Department.

Delia Rubio Tello
Big Spring - Delia Rubio Tello, 59, of Big Spring, died on Sunday, October 16, 2005, at CLC in Richland Hills, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel with Rev. Rene Luevano, pastor of Iglesia Bautista El Calvario in Dallas, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olive Memorial Park.
A prayer service will be held Tuesday at 7:00 PM, at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Rosewood Chapel.
She was born on September 18, 1946, in Big Spring, Texas to Herbert and Manuela Rubio. She married
Gregory Tello on April 24, 1970 in Stanton, Texas.
Mrs. Tello worked at the Big Spring State Hospital, also at a medical institution in Houston, and at the Veterans Administration Medical Centers both in Big Spring and Dallas. Delia was an inspiration to her family and many who knew her. Her friendly, caring, thoughtful and sharing self will be missed.
She was a Baptist.
Survivors include two daughters, Melody T. Baez and husband, Marcos Baez of Fort Worth and Bess H. Tello and husband, Erik Sellers of Big Spring; her father, Herbert Rubio of Big Spring; and many other relatives and lifetime friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother.
The family is appreciative to all those who cared for her as well as all of the prayers and support.

Odessa - Angela G. Galindo 67 of Odessa passed away October 21, 2005 at Medical Centers Regency Hospital in Odessa.
She was born November 11, 1937 in Manuel Benavidez, Chihuahua Mexico to Ignacio Galindo and Francisca Carrasco. She united in marriage to Alberto Galindo May 14, 1960 in Manuel Benavidez, Chihuahua Mx. She was a Christian and a Homemaker.
She is preceeded in Death by her: Husband Alberto Galindo; Son: Manuel Galindo, Parents and Brother Manuel C. Galindo.
She is survived by her Sons Jose, Ubaldo, Homero, Isaias and Luis Galindo all of Odessa. Daughters: Lupe Lopez, Barbara Urias,and Eva Gardea, all of Odessa. Brother Paulo Galindo of Presidio, Texas. Sisters Epifania Olivas of Odessa and Maria Natividad of Midland, Texas. 26 Grandchildren and 5 Great-Grandchildren.
A Rosary will be recited at 6 PM and a Prayer service at 8 Pm today October 23, 2005 at Odessa Funeral Home. A Chapel service with Evangelist:Wayne Partain officiating; will be held at 12 PM Monday October 25, 2005 and a Mass Celebration will be held at 2PM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Reverend Joseph Uecker officiating. Burial will be at RoseHill cemetery.
