Max Willard Brown

STINNETT -- Max Willard Brown of Stinnett, born on Aug. 21, 1914, went to the Lord on April 9, 1999. Max leaves behind his beloved wife of 65 years, Alma Baker Brown; a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Bill Dozier; a daughter-in-law and husband, Glenda Kay and Norman Witcher. Max was preceded in death by his son, Max Drew Brown; his parents; seven brothers; and one sister. Max was born in Texline to William Louis Brown and Gertrude Garrett Brown. His family later moved to Lefors where Max attended Lefors High School. He retired from Foxworth Galbraith Lumber Company after 40 years.

Max was a kind and gentle man who saw good in every person and beauty in everything. Always an artist in his heart, he began oil painting in his 60s. Max was an avid gardner who enjoyed more than sharing the fruit of his labor with friends and neighbors. He loved to travel and his favorite destination was his cabin in Lake City, Colo., where he spent summers surrounded by family and friends.

Max’s greatest joy was his six grandsons: Rex Brown and wife, Misty, of Lake Dallas, Rip Brown of Odessa, Ray Brown and his wife, Renee, of Midland, Lance and Dirk Dozier of Dallas and Reid Witcher of Midland. He also leaves behind six great-grandchldren, Chelsea, Nathan, and Brittany Brown of Dallas, Charla and Macky Brown of Midland, and Samantha Dozier of Dallas. Also surviving are four nephews, five nieces, and sister-in-laws, Fern Brown of Amarillo, Wilma Brown of California. Especially dear to Max are Beverly and Jim Quisenberry of Plano and Brenda and Jimmie Pospisil of Woodward, daughters of his brother Bob, Aloha Bentley and a host of friends.

Services were held Monday at First Baptist Church in Stinnett with the Rev. Orville Rogers, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial cemetery under the direction of Minton/Chatwell Funeral Directors of Borger.

Casket bearers will be his grandsons, Rex Brown, Rip Brown, Ray Brown, Lance Dozier, Dirk Dozier and Reid Witcher.

Carmen Carrasco Gomez

ODESSA -- Carmen Carrasco Gomez, 85, a homemaker, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital.

Rosary was said at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Odessa Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with the Rev. Frank Chavez officiating. Burial will be in Odessa cemetery. Funeral arrangements are by Odessa Funeral Home.

Mrs. Gomez was born July 16, 1913, in Ruidosa, Texas. She married Jesus Gomez Dec. 31, 1936.

She is survived by her husband, Jesus, of Odessa; three sons and their wives, Maclovio "Coyo" and Felipa Gomez, Jose "Pepe" Gomez and Hortencia Gomez, all of Odessa, and Roberto "Robe" and Yolanda Gomez of Midland; one daughter, Amparo Sanchez and Raul Marquez of Midland; 10 grandchildren, Irma Gomez, Jessie Gomez, Lucy Gomez, Randy Sanchez, Sandra Martinez, Tony Gomez, Jaime Gomez, Michelle Gomez, Deborah Gomez and Teresa Guerrero; and nine great-grandchildren, Jill, Anthony,, Brittny, Erica, Christina, Jessica, Lori and Deandra.

Ida Mae "Sweetie Pie" Davis

ODESSA -- Ida Mae "Sweetie Pie" Davis was born May 22, 1926, in Oklahoma City. She was the sixth child of William and Helen Spivey.

She graduated from high school in Garland and attended college at Houston-Tillston University.

She retired from the housing authority of the city of Odessa in 1993.

Ida Mae, "Sweetie Pie," as she was affectionately called, was a member of Saint Matthew Baptist Church. She was very active in her community helping the young and old alike. She was always lending a helping hand and sharing a kind word to others. She was involved with the youth of the community and served as den mother for the Cub Scouts and a volunteer for the Woodson Boys Club. She was active in the political arena, helping not only with local but also state campaigns.

In her profession as a Housing Authority Apartment Manager and Counselor, she went above and beyond the call of duty. She believed that everyone should have adequate houslng and worked to ensure the same. It was not unusual for "Sweetie Pie" to be found cooking for the many occasions and/or individuals that called upon her. She had many "special recipes" with special meanings for special people.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, Tracy Youngblood Sr. and Henry Davis Jr.; grandchildren, Robert Mims Jr. and Jerrin Wilson; brothers, John Spivey and Haskell Spivey.

She is survived by sons, Tracy Youngblood Jr. and wife, Ada, of Orange, Carl Youngblood of Dallas, Joe Davis and wife, Gaye, of Odessa; daughters, Helen Youngblood Wilson and husband, Jerry, Mattie Mellonee Youngblood and Yvonne Davis, all of Dallas; brothers, George Spivey and Perry Joe Spivey, both of Dallas, William Spivey and wife, Marie, of Seagraves; sister, Naomi Spivey of Dallas; sister-in-law, Myrtle Spivey of Odessa; niece, Mari Willis and husband, Kirk, of Odessa; seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a host of other nieces, nephews, acquaintances and friends who all loved and cherished her dearly.

Ida Mae "Sweetie Pie" will never be missed by anyone who knew her because the memories she leaves them will be a prized possession for their lifetime.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at St. Matthew’s Baptist Church with the Rev. A.C. Slack officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.

ODESSA -- Rynda K. Dunnam, 31, of Odessa, died Monday, April 5, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born April 9, 1967, in Odessa to Billy H. and Ruth Dunnam.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 8, 1999, at Temple Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Griffin Jones officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Rynda was a lifelong resident of Odessa. She had plans to plant a garden and she loved flowers. She also was involved with the State Commission for the Blind. She loved animals and her daughter.

She was preceded in death by her father, Billy H. Dunnam; and her brother, Ronald Dean Dunnam.

She is survived by her daughter, Krystal Dunnam of Odessa; mother, Ruth Dunnam of Odessa; brother, Alan Dale Dunnam of Houston; grandparents, Toy and Willis McGowin of Okmulgee, Okla., and Lillie Dunnam of Paris, Texas; sister-in-law, Jane Dunnam of Houston; aunts, Marilyn Kuban of Fort Worth, Nona Johnson of Terrell and Juanita Brawner of Paris, Texas; uncle, Stanley McGowin of Eldorado, Kan.; nephews, Christopher Dunnam of Houston and Randy and Willis McGowin of Okmulgee, Okla.

If desired, memorial gifts may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.

Kathryn Kelsch Bosch

ODESSA -- Kathryn Kelsch Bosch, 81, of Odessa passed away Friday, March 26, 1999, after a lengthy illness. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 29, 1999, at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with interment to follow in Lodi, Calif.

Mrs. Bosch was born Dec. 15, 1917, in Linton, N.D. She married Andrew I. Bosch on Sept. 25, 1939, in Linton, N.D. In 1952, she and her family moved to Lodi, Calif., where she lived for 43 years. In 1992, she relocated to Odessa.

Mrs. Bosch worked for Diamond Walnut Company in Stockton, Calif., from 1957 until her retirement in 1979. She enjoyed homemaking and spending time with her family. Her hobbies included crocheting and playing pinochle and bingo. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church of Odessa.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Andrew I. Bosch; and a daughter, Florence Bosch, who died in infancy.

Survivors include one son, Arnold Bosch of Wallace, Calif.; four daughters, Louella Holland and Deloris Harper, both of Weatherford, Marie Hill of Alvin, Shirley Gayoso of Odessa; two brothers, Alex Kelsch and Pious Kelsch, both of Bismark, N.D.; three sisters, Rose Baumstock of Mandan, N.D., Jean Sabe of Billings, Mont., and Irene Wittmire of Springfield, Ore.; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home of Odessa.

Ruby Irwin Huffman

HOLDENVILLE, Okla. -- Services for Ruby Irwin Huffman will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Hudson-Phillips Funeral Home Chapel in Holdenville, Okla. Burial will be at Holdenville cemetery.

Ruby Huffman, 95, of Odessa passed away Thursday, March 25, 1999, in a local nursing home.

Ruby was born Feb. 24, 1904, in Indian Territory, Okla., to Charlie and Fannie Irwin. She grew up in Atwood, Okla. She married Lester Huffman in 1934 in Wewoka, Okla. They later lived in Holdenvolle where she worked for Empress Clothing Store for 45 years.

She was a member of the Methodist Church and moved to Odessa in 1970 to live with her sister, Lorene Notley. Ruby managed the Notley Lingerie for 11 years and retired in 1981.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and a brother, Ray Irwin.

Survivors included her sister, Lorene Notley of Odessa; three nephews, Tommy, Charles and Richard, all of Odessa; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Harriet Tessier Johnson

ODESSA -- Graveside services for Harriet Tessier Johnson, 89, of Odessa will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Laura Deaderick officiating.

Mrs. Johnson died Friday, March 26, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born July 3, 1909, in Pike, W.Va. She married Rowland L. Tessier in April of 1929 in Big Lake. He died in December of 1957 in Roswell, N.M. She married F.L. "Swede" Johnson in December of 1980 in Hobbs, N.M. He died in October of 1997 in Odessa. She was a homemaker.

The Satterfield family moved to Texon, Texas, in 1924 at the height of the first West Texas oil boom. Her brothers helped bring the Santa Fe No. 2 well, and her dad built most of the houses in Texas. She and her parents managed the Marland Oil Company boarding house in McCamey when drilling began in that area. She later worked at the post office in Texon.

She and Swede made their home in Roswell, N.M., prior to moving to Odessa in 1992. They were members of First United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clinton and Columbia Carmichael Satterfield; brothers, Roy Satterfield, Clint Satterfield, Sanford Satterfield and Ray Carmichael; and sisters, Roxie Garrison and Ruth Carmichael.

She is survived by a son, Rowland L. Tessier of Comfort; a daughter, Sandra T. Mock and her husband, Bill, of Odessa; stepdaughter, Lorrayne Reynolds and her husband, Bob, of Albuquerque, N.M.; seven grandchildren, Denise Tessier of Albuquerque, N.M., Rowland Tessier II of Las Vegas, Danny Tessier of Austin, Eric Tessier of Las Cruces, N.M., Kevin Mock of Las Vegas, Mark Tessier of Albuquerque, N.M., and Jenna Mock of Fort Worth; great-grandchildren, Jordan and Kamryn Mock of Las Vegas, Matthew and Emilia Goldfarb of Albuquerque, N.M., Jennifer, Rowland III and Jessica Tessier of Las Vegas, Travis, Tamara and Tyson Tessier of Austin, and Ben, Rachel, Nikki and Katherine Tessier of Las Cruces, N.M.; great-great-grandchild, Andrew Tessier of Las Vegas.

She is also survived by her brother, Okie Satterfield of Portsmouth, Va.; sister-in-law, Gertrude Doak of San Angelo; nieces, Lois Banzet of Mertzon, Corinne Newbrough of San Angelo and Shirley Lamp of Portsmouth, Va.

The family requests that memorials be made to Harmony Home of Odessa.

Tommie "T.L." Kennedy

ODESSA -- T.L. Kennedy, 82, of Gardendale passed away Friday, March 26, 1999, at the V.A. Medical Center in Big Spring.

T.L. was born Sept. 19, 1916, in Matador to Thomas and Fannie Kennedy.

He was in the Army Air Corps during World War II serving in squadron B 1045th, stationed on the Aleutian Islands from 1941 to 1945.

T.L. came to Odessa in 1945 from Lubbock. Mr. Kennedy owned Kennedy Lumber on South Jackson in Odessa building numerous homes in south Odessa.

In 1950, he started Kennedy’s, which at that time was the largest discount store in Texas. Mr. Kennedy received a degree in Agriculture from Texas Tech.

In 1971, he moved to Gardendale where he sold apples and other vegetables.

He loved his family and his church family.

He was a member of Crescent Park Church of Christ.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 1999, at Crescent Park Church of Christ with Paul M. Smith officiating, Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Survivors include a brother, Houston Kennedy and his wife, Ida, of Gardendale; two nieces and several grand nieces and nephews.
