Dessie Parum

MIDLAND - Dessie Parum, 82, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, in Midland.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Bob Porterfield and Mike Benson officiating. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Arrangements by Ellis Funeral Home.

She was born in Wolf City and was a resident of Midland. She was a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Joe Kenneth Parum of Odessa, Roy Wallace Parum, Donald Ray Parum and Lucky McKay Parum, all of Midland; daughters, Joyce Hale, Linda Hodges, Stella Green and Martha Baker, all of Midland, Alice Medlin of Clinton, S.C., and Janie Duncan of Quitman; 33 grandchildren; 58 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.

Tom Parisher

OZONA - Tom William Parisher, 87, a retired ranch foreman, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 1997, in Ozona.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at the Calvary Baptist Church in Ozona. Burial will be at Cedar Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home in Crane.

He was born in Cherokee and was a resident of Ozona. He was a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Daughter, Tommy Kathleen Parisher O'Bryant of Ozona; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Betty Chrisman

ODESSA - Betty Byrd Chrisman, 60, a homemaker, died Friday Sept. 19, 1997, at her residence.

Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Mitchell officiating. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home in Monahans.

She was born in Pecos and was a resident of Monahans. She was a Baptist. SURVIVORS: Sons, Donnie Blaylock of Huntsville, Ronnie Blaylock of Lindsey, Okla., and Michael Chrisman of VanBuren, Ark.; daughter, Debbie Armstrong of Denver, Colo.; brother, Jim Byrd of Denver City; sisters, Wanda Rush of Monahans and Darlene Mewman of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and two grandchildren.

Phillip Hays

ODESSA - Phillip Lansing 'Lans' Hays, 51, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, at Scenic Mountain Hospital in Big Spring.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Philip McLarty officiating in Odessa. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

He was born in Temple and was a resident of Big Spring. He was a Presbyterian.

SURVIVORS: Father, Alan Hays of Odessa; mother, Willeen Hays of Odessa; brother, Stephen Hays of El Paso; and sister, Diana Hays Kissellburg of El Paso.

William Dant

JAL, N.M. - William Dant, 68, a retired transportation engineer with The Permian Corp., died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, at Winkler County Memorial Hospital.

Services will be held at 4 p.m. today MST at the First Baptist Church of Jal with the Rev. Ted Short officiating.

Burial will be at the Jal cemetery. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Chapel. He was born in Eudora, Ark., and was a resident of Jal, N.M. He was an Army veteran and a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Kathryne Dant of Jal, N.M.; son, Vernon Dant of Lovington, N.M.; daughters, Carol Harris of Hot Springs, Ark., and Diane Creech of Eunice, N.M.; brother, Melvin Dant of Waynesboro, Ga.; and three grandchildren.

Alfredo Venegas

ODESSA - Alfredo Venegas, 85, a general laborer, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 1997, at Medical Center Hospital.

Rosary was said Friday at Martinez Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 3 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.

He was born in Adobe and was a resident of Odessa.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Gilberto Venegas of Odessa, Alfredo Venegas, Daniel Venegas, Sergio Venegas and Roberto Venegas, all of Ojinaga, Mexico, and Saul Venegas and Javier Venegas, both of Redford; daughters, Eniqueta Venegas of Ojinaga, Romelia Ramirez of Dallas, Elpidia Venegas of Juarez, Mexico, Ana Maria Venegas of Marfa and Ana Hinostrosa of Odessa; brothers, Jesus Venegas of Odessa and Refujio Venegas of Ojinaga, Mexico; 60 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Miguel V. Loya

ODESSA - Miguel V. Loya, 82,[cl9.5] died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997, at his home in Odessa. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Monday at Martinez Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be at Rosehill cemetery. Arrangements are by Martinez Funeral Home.

He was born in Chihuahua, Mexico, and was a retired maintenance worker. SURVIVORS: Wife, Maria Loya of Odessa; brother, Tomas V. Loya of San Elizar. He was preceded in death by his father, Ambrosio Loya.

Michael Fuentes

MCCAMEY - Michael Fuentes, 42, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at his home in McCamey. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Richard W. Box Funeral Home in McCamey. Mass will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Barry McLean officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven cemetery. Arrangements are by Richard W. Box Funeral Home.

Fuentes was a lifelong resident of McCamey and worked as a truck driver in the oil fields. He was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Father, Fred Fuentes Jr. of McCamey; daughters, Kelly Fuentes and Juana Fuentes, both of Colorado Springs; sister, Viola Pena and her husband, Ray, of Big Lake; brothers, Stephen Fuentes of Dallas and Freddy Fuentes of McCamey; nephews Roland and Erick Pena of Big Lake; and nieces, Christy and Michelle Pena of Big Lake. He was preceded in death by his mother, Juana Lujan Fuentes.

Doris N. Hughes

ODESSA - Doris N. Hughes, 76, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 1997, at Medical Center Hospital. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

She was born in Richland and had moved to Odessa from Longview in 1961. She was a homemaker and a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Eastern Star.

SURVIVORS: Son, Russell Hughes of Odessa; daughter, Laura Walker of Burns Flat, Okla.; brother, Buddy Nixson of Port Arthur; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Marjorie Taylor Williams

GORMAN - Marjorie Taylor Williams, 81, of Odessa died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at Westwood Medical Center in Midland.

Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Gorman cemetery in Gorman with Rev. Scott Sheppard officiating. Arrangements by Myers and Smith Funeral Home.

She was born Aug. 15, 1916, in Gorman and married C.M. Williams on Nov. 3, 1934, he preceded her in death on Oct. 2, 1991.

She moved to Odessa in 1993 from Big Spring. She was a member of the Church of Christ. SURVIVORS: Sons, James Williams of Kerens, Johnie Williams of Sand Springs and Don Williams of Stephenville; daughters, Judy Brandon of Odessa and Jean Teague of Midland; sisters, Jolene Bennett of Big Spring, Maudell Poyner and Merle Boyce both of Gorman; brother, Earl Taylor of Brownfield; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Betty Byrd Chrisman

MONAHANS - Betty Byrd Chrisman, 61, of Monahans died Friday, Sept. 1997, at her home. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today at Immanuel Baptist Church in Monahans with the Revs. Robert Mitchell and Fred Devila officiating. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home. She was born in Pecos, and was homemaker and member of Immanuel Baptist Church.

Howard Gatlin

MIDLAND - Howard Gatlin, 59, of Odessa, died Friday, Sept. 19, 1997, at his residence. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel in Midland with Rev. Bob Porterfield officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. at Dreamland cemetery in Turkey, Texas with Jimmy Gatlin officiating. Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Home.

He was born in Turkey, Texas to Jimmy H. Gatlin and Bessie Ann Rivers Gatlin on Oct. 24, 1938. He has lived in the Midland /Odessa area for 20 years.

He was a member of the Odessa Special Olympics. He was preceded in death by his sister Karen Sorrel on Jan. 3, 1997.

SURVIVORS: Brothers, Royce Leon Gatlin of Cantuillo, Texas, Jimmy Larry Gatlin, Tommy J. Gatlin and Dicky Rivers Gatlin all of Midland; sisters, Peggy Jean Ellison and Christine Mansell, both of Midland.
