Robert Gordon Nugent
ODESSA - My Dad was born May 18, 1920, in Iowa Park, Texas, to Oscar James Nugent and Annie Baugh Nugent. He was a member of a large loving family, which made it through many very lean times. He graduated from Temple Oklahoma High School in 1939, where he lettered in track and football each of his four years. In his senior year, he was selected as outstanding student of the year by the Temple Chamber of Commerce.
My Dad was a super patriot who loved his country dearly. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941, and served proudly for four years with the 36th fighter group in the South Pacific. He attained the rank of master sergeant. He was proud to be an American.
My Dad married
my Mom, Ann Bell Cookston, in August 1949 and they were happily married
for 44 years until her death in 1993. They were much in love. They had three children who survive them, Bobby Nugent Umberson, Buddy Nugent, and Betty Nugent Tisdale, all of Midland. They had nine grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. Bob is also survived by one brother, Byron, and a very special friend, Helen Farmer.
My Dad worked for El Paso Products Company in Odessa for 34 years. He started as an electrician and finished his career as an area zone planner. He was very proud of his job and his company.
My Dad always had a kind word for everyone, and spoke it with sincerity. He will be greatly missed, but fondly remembered by all who ever met him. He was a kind, sweet man.
