Garry Maxcey
San Saba - Garry Maxcey passed away quietly and peacefully on Saturday, March 4th, 2006 at 7:50 a.m. at his home near Richland Springs after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. He was 68 years old.
Garry was born on May 13th, 1937 in Brady, Texas to Mack and R. Lee Maxcey of Richland Springs.
Garry graduated with a B.S. degree in Range Animal Husbandry from Sul Ross State University. He was a soil conservation contractor and rancher.
Garry spent most of his life in San Saba and Pecos Counties. He had a strong love for his devoted family and friends and enjoyed life to the fullest. His favorite pastime was fishing on the banks of the Rio Grande with his good compadres.
He is survived by his wife Mary Garner Maxcey of Richland Springs; one son, Wade Allen Maxcey and his wife Renea of Iraan; one daughter, Duana Kay Maxcey and her partner Christi Golden of Wimberley; grandchildren, Kagan Wade Maxcey, Weston Shay Maxcey, and Avery Maxcey Golden; the mother of his children Peggy Barker and her husband Richard; step-children, Debbie Maxcey, Karen Miller, Larry Grant, Jack Grant, and Howard Higginbotham; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; brother, Mack Maxcey, Jr. and wife Debbie of Lake Brownwood; two sisters, Marjolaine Lewis of Providence Village and Angela Brown and husband Tom of Midland; special aunts, Jo Nell Huntington of Santa Fe, Texas and Geneva McGee of White Settlement; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Kim Maxcey, and one granddaughter, Alaina Renea Maxcey.
Those serving as bearers will be Bill Burks, Joe Jackson, Jaime Ellison, Red Gibson, Jeffery Bates, and Dean Barrett. Those serving as honorary bearers will be John Griffis, Harvey Garvin, Charles Butts, and Freddie Brooks.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at 10:00 A.M. at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dick Williams officiating. Interment will follow at the Richland Springs cemetery.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Coggin Avenue Baptist Church, Vision 100 Building Fund, 1815 Coggin Avenue, Brownwood, Texas 76801, as well as the First Baptist Church of San Saba, 208 W. Wallace, San Saba, Texas 76877.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Monday, March 6th, 6:00-8:00 P.M.

Melvin David Purvis
Odessa - Melvin David Purvis went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on March 3, 2006. He was born in El Paso, Texas on March 26, 1962, the son of Royce G. and Julie M. Purvis. He grew up in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School. He had various pursuits from the oilfield to the security field and tried to have fun in whatever he was doing. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and sports. His survivors include his mother Julie Purvis of Odessa, son Mel Gipson of Odessa, aunt Mona Purvis of Odessa, brother Royce Purvis and wife Molly of Odessa, sister Margie Newsom of Mesquite and husband Steve; cousin Dean Purvis and wife Missy of Grand Forks, North Dakota; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relations of whom he was blessed to love. Grave-side services are scheduled for Wednesday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, Texas. He is dancing with his Father God in fields of grace. Ephesians 2:8-9.
Jimmie Lee Rhodes
Odessa - Jimmie Lee Rhodes, 77, went home to be with the Lord on March 4, 2006.
Jimmie was born April 22, 1928, to Lee and Lela Rhodes, in Millersview, TX. He married
Betty J. Taylor on January 25, 1947. They had four children.
Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Howard, wife, Betty, and sons, Artie and Eddie Rhodes.
Jimmie is survived by daughter Johnnie Rhodes of Odessa, son, Jim Tom Rhodes of Gilroy, CA; daughter-in-law, Cathy Rhodes Fickes of Anchorage, AL; grandchildren, Jimmie Lee Rhodes and wife, Kami of Gerring, NE; Tracey Lynn Taylor of Spokane, WA; Donella Yiera of Boise, ID; Katie Dale Rhodes of San Jose, CA; great-grandson, Lawrence Taylor of Spokane, WA; sister-in-law, June Stephenson of Anaheim, CA; brother-in-law, Sonny Taylor and wife, Francis of El Paso, TX; sisters-in-law, Waldine Barr of Stephenville, TX, and Bonnie Murff of El Paso, TX, along with many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews, and many cousins.

Johncal Woody
Stanton - Johncal Woody, 69, of Midland, died on Saturday, March 4, 2006, in a Midland hospital. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, March 8, 2006 at the Evergreen cemetery Chapel in Stanton with Rev. James Otterness, officiating and Rev. Daniel Armstrong, assisting. Masonic rites will be conducted by the Stanton Masonic Lodge #951.
The family will receive relatives and friends, from 6 PM to 8 PM Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at the funeral home.
He was born on August 27, 1936, in Stanton, Texas and married
Ruby Faye Ross on December 28, 1989 in Midland, Texas.
Johncal was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He grew up in Stanton and graduated from Stanton High School and attended San Angelo Jr. College and Odessa College. He moved to Odessa in 1961 working for General Tire & Rubber Company in Odessa retiring in 1986.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Stanton. Johncal was past master of the Stanton Lodge #951 A.F. & A.M., the Midland lodge #623, A.F. & A.M., was a member of the El Paso Scottish Rites, The Midland York Rites and Suez Shrine Temple.
Survivors include his wife, Ruby Woody of Midland; one son and daughter-in-law, Ken and Peg Woody of Midland; one daughter & son-in-law, Rhonda and Ty Holloway of Rockwall; two stepdaughters, Debra Hudson of Lewisville and Sheri Hill and husband Chris of Corinth and one step son, Darren Ross and wife Shantell of Bedford; one brother, Pete Woody and his wife, Marie of Stanton; one grandson, Jonathan Holloway of Rockwall; step grandchildren, Sean Hudson of New Zealand, Katherine Hudson of Dallas, Alexander Hill, Kristen Hill and Nathan Hill all of Corinth, and Kade Ross of Bedford; numerous cousins, nieces & nephews and many lifetime West Texas friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Inez Woody and one brother, Wayne Houston Woody.

Virginia Taylor
Odessa - Virginia Taylor 66, of Odessa passed away March 4, 2006 at Medical Center Hospital.
Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m. Friday March 10, in the Frank W. Wilson Chapel with Rev. Mike May officiating.
Virginia was born in Laredo, Texas on April 3, 1939 to Thurman and Ethel (Hicks) Taylor. She retired as a dispatcher for the Jal, New Mexico Police Department.
She is preceded in death by her parents Thurman and Ethel Taylor, brothers Joe Taylor and Thurman Taylor Jr.
Virginia is survived by her sisters Peggy Davis and Ann Holley both of Odessa; numerous nieces and nephews; numerous great nieces and nephews, and one great-great niece, and one great-great nephew who she loved very much.

Euris ‘Pete’ Peugh
Abilene - Euris “Pete” Peugh, died Sunday, March 5, 2006, at his residence.
Services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Pioneer Drive Baptist Church with Dr. Jeff Reid, Brother Jack Ridlehoover, and Reverend Gene Rotramel officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill cemetery, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory St., in Abilene.
Pete was born to Mary Etta (Price) and John Thomas Peugh in Morris, Oklahoma on October 19, 1918. He served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II. Pete married
Sarah “Dorothy” Newson on August 1, 1946 in Lordsberg, New Mexico. They moved to Abilene in 1989. Pete worked for the freight lines as a truck driver for 40 years. He then worked as a self-employed truck driver for 14 years. Pete was a member of Pioneer Drive Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ione Wren.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Peugh of the home; a daughter, Laura and husband, Duane, Donaway of Abilene; and two grandchildren, Corey Donaway and Kalli Donaway.
