Faye Lee Connell
ODESSA -- Faye Lee Connell, 88, of Paris, Texas passed away April 19, 1999, in a Paris nursing home. Mrs. Connell was born April 12, 1911, in Clyde, Texas, to Fred Lee and Eva Mae Chunn. She married
Wilson Edmond Connell on August 17, 1936, in Fort Worth, Texas. Faye had worked as an R.N. at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Worth, where she received her training. She had been a resident of Odessa for more than 50 years before moving to Paris five years ago to be near family.
While in Odessa, she was active in many organizations including the DAR, Creative Writer’s Club, Hospital Volunteer, League of Women Voters, Election Poll Worker, Democratic Women, several children’s organizations and the Historical Society, as well as a faithful member of the First Presbyterian Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1989 and a daughter and granddaughter, Martha Yvonne Connell Davis and Laura Davis, in 1976.
She is survived by two grandchildren, Joe Kirklin of Arlington Heights, Illinois and
Kimberly Kirklin of Louisville, Ken.; a step-granddaughter, Toni Perry of Houston; two step-great-grandchildren, Jessica and Jay Perry; five sisters, Nelle Miller of Alvin, Dannie Ford of Shreveport, La., Ethel Martin of Rockwall, Reba and her husband, Leon Bolgiano of Paris, and Helen Gilmore of Gun Barrell, Texas; son-in-law, Perry Davis of Odessa; sister-in-law, Norma Chunn of Rockwall; many nieces and nephews.
Public visitation will be held from 12 Noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, April, 23, 1999, in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Philip McLarty officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral home.
Margarita G. Gonzalez
ODESSA -- Margarita G. Gonzalez, 76, went home to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 17, 1999. She was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother. She was a member of First United Pentecostal Church.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 21, 1999, at First United Pentecostal Church with the Revs. J.T. Pugh and Nicolas Muniz officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel.
To our beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother whom will always be loved dearly. She went home praising her Lord and Savior. She went rejoicing with the Lord and her Loved Ones. Thank you Jesus for allowing our Precious Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother, a wonderful Christian, who was the special selected one to teach us and show us and others about your awesome love. With our trust, hope and belief in Christ, we will see you again. That is God’s promise to those who love him.
She is survived by two sisters, Maria Galindo of Marathon and Rita Tavarez of Fort Stockton; five sons and two daughters, Jose Gonzalez of Las Cruces, N.M., Mario Gonzalez of Del Rio, Juanita Rosas of Kermit, Wally Gonzalez of Odessa, Manuela Herrera of Odessa, Antonio Gonzalez of Sommerville, Agapito Gonzalez of Lubbock; 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Mom, you will be forever loved and missed.
Anna Lee Parker White
ODESSA -- Anna Lee Parker White, 84, of Odessa passed away Saturday, April 17, 1999, at an Odessa nursing home.
She was born Oct. 9, 1914, in Rotan.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, 1999, at Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery in Odessa under the direction of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors of Odessa.
Mrs. White graduated from the nursing program at Odessa College and worked as a licensed vocational nurse. She loved her family and loved to cook and watch sports on television. She also loved to shop and was good at it.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Bridges and Gladys Bierthwirth, and one brother, Vance Parker.
She is survived by two sons and their wives, Ronnie and Norma White of El Paso and Kerry Mac and Sara Weems of Mansfield; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons-in-law Tim Easley, Fred Mayberry, Don Ball and Larry Parsons.
Dr. Nicholas Samponaro
SARASOTA, Fla. -- Dr. Nicholas Samponaro, 95, of North Hutchinson Island, Fla., formerly of Litchfield, Conn., died Thursday, April 13, 1999, in Florida. He was the husband of Marie O. (Guerrieri) Samponaro for 60 years.
Dr. Samponaro was born Sept. 29, 1903, in Hartford, Conn., son of the late Frank and Lucia (Martorelli) Samponaro. He was a graduate of Hartford High School, Trinity College in 1925 and Johns Hopkins Medical School in 1929. A physician specializing in eye, ear, nose and throat disorders, he interned in Baltimore and New York before joining the staff at Hartford Hospital. During World War II he served as a Commander in the U.S. Navy. Following the war he joined the staff at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington and had a private practice until retiring in 1983.
Dr. Samponaro was a dedicated physician and a man of great integrity, who gave his time generously to those unable to provide for themselves. A deeply spiritual man, he lived his faith and loved his family unconditionally. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, the Litchfield County Medical Association and other professional groups.
In addition to his wife, three sons survive him, Frank N. Samponaro of Sarasota, Fla., Philip G. Samponaro of Litchfield, Conn., and Peter G. Samponaro of Greenwich, Conn.; eight grandchildren; and he was blessed with three loving daughter-in-laws, Marsha, Tish and Diana.
Funeral services and burial in East cemetery Litchfield were private. There were no calling hours. The Rowe Funeral Home, 283 Torrington Road, Litchfield, had charge of arrangements.
Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity College, 300 Summit St., Hartford, Conn., or Johns Hopkins Hospital, 601 N. Broadway St., Baltimore, Md.
Arvol E. Matthews
ODESSA -- Arvol E. Matthews, 73, of Gardendale, an industrial mechanic, died Saturday, April 17, 1999, at the Parks Methodist Retirement Village.
Graveside services will be 3 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel.
Visitation was 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. today.
He was born in Roscoe and was a Navy veteran.
Pallbearers will be Justin Matthews, Terry Bennett, K.L. Darby, Toby Matthews, Sean Scott and Coltyn Scott.
Survivors include his wife, Veta Matthews of Gardendale; sons, Gary Matthews of Gardendale and Jeff Matthews of Alvarado; daughter, Pat Bennett of Gardendale; a brother, Odie Matthews of Crews; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Adam Flores Sr.
ODESSA -- Mass for Adam Flores Sr., 76, of Odessa will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, April 16, 1999, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Interment will follow at Rose Hill cemetery under the direction of Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel.
Mr. Flores died Monday, April 12, 1999, at Vencore Hospital in Fort Worth. He was born May 22, 1922, in Lubbock. He married
Frances Flores on Jan. 15, 1982, in Odessa. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eulalio Flores and Teresa Chavez; his son, Raul Flores; and his first wife, Elvira Moreno Flores.
Mr. Flores was a retired plumber and came to Odessa in 1950. He was Catholic.
Survivors include his wife, Frances Flores of Odessa; sons, Adam Flores Jr. of Colorado City, David Flores of Odessa, Hector Flores of Dallas and stepson, Miguel Hinojoza of Odessa; daughters, Lucinda Ramirez of Odessa, Enedina Harris of Little Rock, Ark., Mary Guzman of Houston, Anita Deleon of Dallas; Emma Dominguez of Odessa and Elizabeth Acosta of Odessa; brother, Ismael Flores; sister, Eva Chavez; 31 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.

Winnie Ann Rogers
ODESSA -- Winnie Ann Rogers, 96, of Odessa died Thursday, April 15, 1999, in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 11, 1903, in Eastland County.
Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 1999, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Don Turksey officiating. Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
She married
Marshall Rogers Aug. 24, 1924, in Ranger. He worked for Humble Oil for many years and they lived in Iraan, Penwell, Denver City, Monahans and now Odessa.
Mrs. Rogers loved church and was very active as long as she was able. She taught Sunday School for many years. She was a member of Eisenhower Church of Christ.
She loved to travel and was a member of the Airstream Club. She also loved to wear hats and she read western novels. She was an accomplished seamstress, as well.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall Rogers; and son, Marshall Duane "Red" Rogers.
She is survived by one son, Benny Rogers of Robert Lee; and one daughter, Billie Stillwell of Odessa; 10 grandchildren, Gary Stillwell, Bobby Stillwell, Mike Rogers, Kay Rogers Duff, Mitt Rogers, Gail Stillwell, Lanny Rogers, Holly Tindel, Doug Rogers and Kathy Rogers; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Jerry Glenn Davis
ODESSA -- Services for Jerry Glenn Davis, 48, of Odessa, will be at 2 p.m. Friday, April 16, 1999, at St. James Baptist Church with the Rev. R.T. McNeil officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill cemetery.
Mr. Davis died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Oct. 7, 1950, in Castor, La. to Carrie Lee Lewis and Coy Davis Sr.
He was a retired biomedical technician. He enjoyed repairing televisions as a hobby.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Davis; his mother, Carrie Lewis; and his brother, Coy Davis Jr.
Survivors include his father, Coy Davis Sr. of Dallas; sister, Carolyn Jones of Odessa; stepfather, Elisha Lewis Jr. of Odessa; niece, Karis Jones of Odessa; and nephews, Quentin Jones and Donald Jones, both of Odessa.
