Mary Helen Key Cypert
Odessa - Mary Helen Key Cypert, passed away on June 1, 2006, in Odessa, Tx. She was born April 23, 1926, in San Angelo, Tx to Mary and James Key. The Key family moved from McCamey to Odessa in 1939. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1942 and married
John Logan of Rawlings, Wyoming that year. Together they had one son, John Key Logan. Mary Helen attended TCU and then graduated from the University of Wyoming in 1945 with a BA in History.
She began her teaching career at Ector County ISD in 1949. Six years later she entered the mortgage banking business with her father, Jim Key.
She married
E.O. (Cy) Cypert on April 22, 1967, and returned to teaching for another 22 years. After her husband’s retirement from Gulf Oil, they owned the Candy Store in Winwood Mall and later Smuggler’s Imports. This store plus her teaching World History encouraged them to indulge their interests in foreign travel with many trips to Europe, Asia and North Africa. When Mary Helen retired from teaching in 1990, they sold their businesses and continued to travel.
Mary Helen was a member of Odessa Study Club and Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon and a Sunday school teacher. On May 6, 2006 at the Women’s Congregational Meeting, she was honored with “Honorary Life Membership” in the Presbyterian Church, USA.
She is survived by her husband Cy, her son John Key Logan and wife Jo Lynn, her stepdaughter Cyd Berry, and her stepson Vince Cypert, all of Odessa. She leaves three grandchildren: John Key Logan Jr. and wife Mary of Pittsfield, MA; Marcus K. Logan and wife Erin of Arlington, Tx; and James K. Logan of Odessa; four step-grandchildren, all of Odessa; two great grandsons: Jacob K. Logan and Gabriel K. Logan.
She is also survived by a brother, James Shields Key and wife Dona of Medford, OR, and three nieces: Candace Key of San Rafael, CA; Lori Key Becker of Springfield, MA; Sally Key of High Point, NC, and one nephew, Philip Shields Key of Portland, OR.
A memorial will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church at 11:00 am on Saturday, June 3rd with Rev. Bob Sams officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to Westminster Presbyterian Church or the Ector County Library- AV Department.

Vernon Coy ‘Perch’ Jacobs
Odessa - Vernon Coy “Perch” Jacobs, 66, a retired musician, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2006, at Medical Center Hospital.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Greenfield Acres Baptist Church on Yukon in Odessa.
He was born August 2, 1939 in Center, Texas to John and Stella Jacobs.
He is suvived by his wife, Mary Jacobs of Odessa; daughters, Holly Lofton and Charlotte Jacobs, both of Olla, La., Shanna Hughes of Houston, Dawn Blackwell of Urania, La., Jennifer Jacobs of Fort Rucker, Ala., Amanda Jacobs, Misty Pittman and Stella Jacobs, all of Odessa; brothers, Harold Jacobs of Price and Roy Jacobs Sr. of Center; sisters, Mary Jean Hill and Lucille Robbins, both of Carthage; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, James Jacobs and grandson, Rowdy Little.
Billy Earnest Phillips
Odessa - Billy Earnest Phillips, 61, of Odessa was born on December 14, 1944 in Gatesville, TX to Johnie and Billy Phillips. He met his Lord on May 29, 2006.
As a child he moved to Odessa, Texas where he attended Rusk Elementary School, Ector Junior High, and Odessa High School. He was active in FFA during his high school years. He also attended Royalty Heights Baptist Church where he met Sue Rowch.
In 1964 he and Sue were married
at Chapel Hill Baptist Church. Last February they celebrated 42 years together. Bill was a proud daddy of 3 children, Cindy, Brian, and Renea. Later he became Popa to 7 grandchildren, Nicole, Zac, Brittany, Kayla, Ashley, Bentley (preceded him in death), Hunter, and 1 great grandchild, Kyrsten.
As Kids we have enjoyed countless hours of playtime with him varying from coloring books to learning canasta and dominoes; as well as rocking many miles in his arms.
As we have grown up through the years seeing his many accomplishments, we are so proud. Popa was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church. He was a 32nd degree past master mason of Odessa Lodge 955. He enjoyed being active until his illness of the last two years. His other memberships included the Grand Lodge of Texas, Texas Scottish Rite Bodies, York Rite, El Maida Shrine Club of Odessa and El Paso. He enjoyed the fun activities, including brisket cookoffs and pancake breakfasts. He was one of the original founders of the Odessa Special Olympic Halloween Carnival. Many children benefited from his assistance in petitioning the Shrine and Scottish Rite hospitals. One of his favorite past times was drinking coffee with his many friends at Catfish and Co.
Survivors include his wife, Sue Phillips of Odessa; son, Brian Phillips of Odessa; daughters, Cynthia Phillips and Renea McDowell of Odessa; mother, Johnie Phillips of Tennessee; brother, Ronnie Phillips of Tennessee; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
We all love and miss him very much!

Through our 42 years of marriage we have had many good and bad times. I just want to say I miss you and will always love you. You will always be in my heart; until we meet again.

Florence Shipp
La Porte - Florence Shipp went to be with the Lord on May 28, 2006. She was born in Normanna, Bee County, TX on December 17, 1908. Her husband, Robert Eugene Shipp preceded her in death. They were married
in Beeville, TX on December 21, 1927. In 1934, after the Depression era came on they moved to West Texas to find work. They stayed and loved it dearly. One daughter, Eugenia Shipp and one grandson, Lee Graves preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Janet Graves of Houston, TX; sons, Steve Shipp of Tyler, TX, and Lucius Shipp of Iraan, TX. Grandchildren include Cathy Unger, James Graves, Sandra Murray, Laurie Franks, Rebecca Shipp, Gene Shipp, and Kelli Phillips; great-grandchildren, Kevin Unger, Cynthia Unger, Zachary Murray, Adam Phillips and Brandon Phillips. Services will be held Friday, June 2, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, Iraan, TX. Graveside services will follow at Restland cemetery in Iraan, TX.
Roles as Mother and Grandmother kept her plenty busy. Some of her passions for living included her Garden Club membership, politics, bird watching, genealogy research, historical research, reading the Bible and spending time with her family. Her cheerful personality will always be remembered. Smiles seemed only a few words away whenever you talked with her. People that knew her will cheerfully recount her fervent opinions about all matters of history past and present. Wonder how so much power was packed into such a little body?

J.M. ‘Jack’ Tweelings
Dallas - Born July 1, 1950 in Odessa Texas, and passed away in Dallas May 29, 2006, after a brief illness. He is survived by his brother, David Tweelings, and aunt Florence Tweelings, A Rosary will be held on Friday, June 2, 2006 at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, June 3, 2006, at 1:00 p.m. Both services will be at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 4523 Cedar Springs, Dallas Texas, 759219. Odessa - Rafaela G. Garay, 43 of Odessa passed away on May 27, 2006 following an accident. She was born on October 24, 1962 in Ojinaga, Mexico. She is survived by her son; Joel Pando of Monahans, daughter, Briana Contreras of Monahans, parents; Eladio and Angela Garay Sr. of Odessa, brothers; Eladio Garary Jr. of Odessa, Raul Garay of Pasadena, Tx. Humberto Garay of Houston, Eloy Garay of Pasadena, Tx., Luis Garay of El Paso, sisters; Leticia Montoya of Dallas, Ludivinna Rodriguez, Aracelia Baeza both of Odessa, Angelicia Garay of Pasadena, Tx, one grandchild; Caitlin Marie Pando of Monahans, numerous nieces and nephews. Janet Kirk
Odessa - Janet Kirk, of Longmont, Colorado passed away Friday May 26,2006 in Odessa while visiting relatives. She was born Oct. 3,1929 in Cisco, Tx. to Olen Benny Brown and Evelyn White Brown. She graduated from Monhans High School in 1947 and attended Abilene Business School.
She married
Glenn L. Kirk, the love of her life for 57 years. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by husband Glenn Kirk of Longmont, Co. sons David Kirk and wife Suzanne of Montrose, Co. Paul Kirk of Longmont, Co. and Steven Kirk and wife Betty of Lakeville, Minn. daughter Lisa Nave and husband Dave of Renton, Wa. sister Janice Deutsch of Odessa, brother Dan Brown and wife Marjorie of San Antonio, adopted sister Claudia Owen and husband Bobby of Abilene and many nieces and nephews.
Janet, an artist, was well known for her oil and water color paintings. A past Executive Board Member of the Colorado Artist Association, listed in the 1981 American Artist of Renown, she studied art at the Colorado University at Denver, Metro State University and the Rocky Mountain School of Art. Her works were in art shows in Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico and Texas, many of them winning awards.
Services will be Tues. May 30,2006 at 2PM at Frank W. Wilson Chapel with Bishop Chris Vore officiating. Interment will be in Longmont, Colorado.

Doris ‘Delphi’ Mauldin
Odessa - Doris Mauldin, age 57, of Odessa, passed away at her residence on Monday, May 29, 2006. She was born in Fort Worth, TX on Wednesday, February 23, 1949 to the late Richard Dean and Delores Elaine (Franssen) Mauldin. She was a homemaker who had made Odessa her home for the past 35 years, moving here from California.
She is survived by her son: Keith Towers of Odessa, Texas; one brother: Richard David Mauldin and wife, Kathy of Odessa; one sister: Darla Sanders and husband, Don of Odessa; two grandchildren: Sara Marie Broussard and Alex Glasscock, and eight special nieces and nephews: Michell Blackwell, Amy Blackwell, Kelly Blackwell, Robert G. Schorovsky, Robert D. Schorovsky, Ricky Schorovsky, Sandra Schorovsky and Schara Schorovsky.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at the Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd. at 2:00 pm. Arrangements are entrusted to Acres West Funeral Chapel.
Lora Elizabeth ‘Liz’ Vincent
Odessa - Lora Elizabeth “Liz” Vincent, 85, of Odessa passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2006 at Alliance Hospital.
She was born December 25, 1920 in Spearman, TX to John Wiles & Tabitha (Sparks) Burges. She moved to Odessa in 1946. She taught school in Spearman during WWII and later substitute taught. She attended Austin College and was a charter member & very active at St. Andrew Cumberland Presbyterian Church. She made beautiful handmade quilts and also had delivered Meals On Wheels.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, John Wiles Burges, Jr., Claude J. Burges & sisters, Anita Janzen & Vivian Witt.
She is survived by her husband Jack Vincent of Odessa, children, Phillip Vincent & wife Brenda, David Vincent & wife Vicki, Geonne Franklin & husband Roy, Joe Vincent & wife Carol, Bynum Vincent & wife Joni, brother, Gray Sparks Burges all of Odessa, (13) grandchildren, (12) great-grandchildlren & (2) great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces & nephews.
There will be a visitation 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Martha Jo Williams
Odessa - Martha passed away May 28, 2006 at Hospice House in Odessa. She was born April 18, 1942 in Midland, TX to Tony and Percilar Williams. Martha was a long time resident of Odessa. Graveside services will be Thursday, June1, 2006 at 9:30 am at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Robert Williams officiating. Martha’s visitation will be all day Wednesday.
Martha is preceded in death by her parents; Tony and Pecilar Williams, a son; Johnny Joe Elledge, two brothers; Pervis Williams and Sidney Williams, two sister-in-laws; Viola Williams and Christine Williams, and a nephew; Emmett Moore.
Martha is survived by a son; William (Bill-Bill) Elledge of Odessa, her beloved; Donnie Wadley of Odessa, son; Mike Wadley of California, and daughter, Donna Everett of Pasadena, TX, a brother; J.D. Williams of Midland, two sisters; Dorothy and husband Hollis Lesley of Arizona, and Charlotte Williams of Odessa, four grandsons; Joshua Elledge of Oklahoma, Will Elledge and wife Christie, Lance Elledge and wife Becca, and Tony Elledge all of Odessa, her daughter-in-law; Patricia Elledge-Hagman of Odessa, Two great-grandchildren; Joesef Elledge of Oklahoma and Johnathan Elledge of Odessa, lots of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, and many wonderful friends.
Martha said not to be sad because, “ I am pain free, and will see you all, again”.

Bettye L. Belew McGee
Bettye L. Belew McGee, of Odessa, was born January 5, 1944 in Scranton, TX to E.D. ‘Pete’ and Agnes Belew. She passed away on May 28, 2006 at her residence.
Graveside services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, June 1, 2006 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Bettye was an assistant manager for Pinkie’s Liquor Store in Odessa. She was a Baptist.

Macon Caddell
GRANBURY - Macon Caddell, 89, died Saturday, May 27, 2006 in Granbury.
Funeral Ceremonies will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Wiley Funeral Home. Burial will proceed at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Sunset Memorial Park in Odessa. Memorials can be made by donation to the American Cancer Society.
Macon Caddell was born Sept. 18, 1916 in Aubrey to Clem and Lela Aderholt Caddell. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 509th Ordinance Group. He married
Mattie Denton on November 25, 1936 in Lubbock. She passed away April 30, 2006. He was an electrician and a deacon in the Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Survivors Sons and wives, Michael and Day Nell Caddell of McKinney and Len and Patty Caddell of Granbury; grandchildren, Paige, Tim and Christopher Caddell and Elisa Nihill; great-grandchildren, Alex, Andrew, Avery, Benjamin and Hannah.
Elvin Ray Mincey
Monahans - Elvin Ray Mincey, 79, of Monahans died Sunday, May 28, 2006, at Monahans Managed Care Center.
He was born May 11, 1927, in Eldorado, Oklahoma to Evandar and Dora Mincey. He served with the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He married
Frances Collins on August 12, 1972 in Monahans, Texas. He was retired from Ozarka, where he was a shift foreman.
Services are set for 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 31, 2006 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in Monahans Memorial cemetery under the direction of Harkey Family Funeral Services. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, May 30, 2006 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m at the funeral home.
Survivors include his wife, Frances, of Monahans. A daughter, Evelyn Dennis Gilson and husband Billy, of Ropesville, and a granddaughter, Frances Elizabeth Gilson of College Station. Also a sister, Juanita Wilcox of Knox City and a nephew, Rev. Gary Wilcox and wife, Alva, of El Paso.
