Josh ‘Trebark’ Weaver
Odessa - Josh “Trebark” Weaver, 30, of Brownwood, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2007, in Coleman, Texas. He was born September 21, 1976 in Odessa to Carolyn (Thomson) Weaver.
He is survived by his parents, Carolyn Weaver of Odessa, Mark Weaver of Rogers, Arkansas, grandmother, Rowena Byrd of Odessa, aunt & uncle, Rip & Margaret Thornburg, cousins, Brandon & Tanner Thornburg, all of Stephenville, his true friend, Michael Reyenga of Odessa & especially Trebark’s loyal companion, Chex.
Josh was preceded in death by his grandparents, Murray Byrd, and Ernest & Wilma Weaver.
Josh touched the lives of his family, friends and especially all children throughout his lifetime. Josh had an exceptional love for being outdoors, which involved cooking, hunting, fishing and riding for the Brand.
He was truly an old time cowboy in today’s world. Shoooot Yea!!! He was that kind of guy.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 14, 2007 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dwayne Dunwoody officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Michael Reyenga, Daniel Benoit, Kent Pittman, Brandon Thornburg, Tanner Thornburg and Charlie Grisham. Honorary Pallbearers will be Ben Taylor, Michael Flippin, Kenny Lowe, Don Bostick, Scott Hamilton and Chris Hamilton.

Dr. Ashok Khosla
Odessa - Dr. Ashok Khosla, beloved Professor of Physics at Odessa College since 1975 died on February 10, 2007. He was born in Lahore just before the Partition and grew up in Delhi, India. Dr. Khosla received his B.S. (Honors) degree in Physics from the University of Delhi in India in 1965. He came to the United States in 1965 for graduate work at Purdue University in W. Lafayette, Indiana where he received his Masters degree in Physics in 1967. He taught for one year at the Fulton Montgomery College in Fulton, NY, where he realized his love of teaching and decided to pursue an advanced degree. Following five years of study and research at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY, he earned a Ph.D. in Physics, after which he came to Odessa College. Dr. Khosla has been recognized and honored for his exceptional teaching during his 33-year college career, including his selection as an “Outstanding Young Man of America” in 1977 and 1980.
Shoki, as his friends and colleagues called him, had a unique charm, which endeared him to everyone he met. Appreciated for a ready and unexpected wit as well as unconventional wisdom, Dr. Khosla made a lasting impact on his students with his personal and creative approach to explaining the intricacies of physics. The lives of students, colleagues, friends, and relatives, both here and in India, have been touched by Shoki’s disarming ability to connect with people from all walks of life; he will be fondly remembered by everyone who came in contact with him.
Dr. Khosla is survived in India by Bhenji Jai Rani Bhalla; brothers Avinash, Kailash, Narotam, and Krishan Khosla; sisters Urmila Sarna and Pratibha Shivlingam; and his brother Rajinder Khosla in Oakton, Virginia.
A memorial service for Dr. Khosla will be held at Odessa College’s Community Room on Thursday, February 15, at 4:30 p.m. A memorial scholarship fund has been set up in Dr. Khosla’s name. In lieu of flowers, friends of Shoki are asked to make a donation to The Odessa College Foundation, designating the contribution for the Dr. Ashok Khosla Memorial Scholarship Fund (201 West University, Odessa, Texas 79764).
Rex E. Partridge
Odessa - Rex E. Partridge, age 79, of Odessa passed away Sunday, February 11, 2007, at the Hospice House. He was born July 4, 1927 in Merkel, TX. He graduated from Odessa High School in 1946. He went to Tulane University in New Orleans on a football scholarship, he graduated in 1950. Following graduation he entered military service, where as an M.P. he met the “love of his life,” Elsie K. Stemski. They were married
June 6, 1953 in Corning, N.Y. After a honeymoon in Niagra Falls, they returned to Odessa where they have lived for 53 years.
He was employed and retired from Woolley Tool Mfg.
He was preceded in death by sons, Steve and Rex Jr. Partridge, and his parents D. E & Helen Partridge.
He is survived by his wife Elsie “Ellie” Partridge of Odessa, son, John D. Partridge & wife Bonnie of Columbia, Alabama, daughters, Katherine E. Walls & husband, Roy of Kermit, Karen A. Ervin of Odessa, & Mary Partridge Shahan & husband Raymond of Chromo, CO, brother, J. D. Edward ‘Eddy Lee’ Avery
MIDLAND - Edward Lee Avery, of Midland, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2007, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at the Christian Church of Midland.
Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park, with Jim O’Banion officiating and Bob Blazek assisting.
The family will receive friends on Friday, Feb. 9, 2007, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, 3800 N. Big Spring St. in Midland.
He was born December 3, 1940 to Lottie Blackerby and Ogal B. Avery.
Ed graduated from Stanton High School and for most of his career worked in the oilfields of Texas and Louisiana as a Production Superintendent and for the past 8 years worked with his son Brad Avery at Hotline Utility Construction and Lawson Equipment.
Ed was a member of Christian Church of Midland where he served as a Deacon for many years. He was known for his quick wit and wonderful culinary creations. He also leaves behind an adoring church family.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Judith Allison Avery; six children Lauri Avery Barber and husband Kelly of Covington, LA, Bradley Robert Avery and wife Linda of Garden City, Michael David Pelletier and wife Sheri of Lafayette, LA, Jeffrey Lewis Pelletier and Ginger of Lewisville, Melissa Avery Thompson and husband Mark of Palmer, AK and Charles Bennett Pelletier and wife Andrea of Layfayette, LA, as well as 14 adoring grandchildren and his mother-in-law Gladys S. Allison. He is also is survived by two sisters, Yvonne Hrbacek of Odessa and Lonita Crocker of Weatherford, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters. The family would like to extend special thanks to all Ed’s caregivers at Midland Memorial Hospital Critical Care Unit.
The six sons and sons-in-law will be pallbearers. The honorary pallbearers will be Don Gaines, Tony Lusk, Wayne Peters, Eddie Taylor, Dean Soderstrom, Ed Brown, Justin Fay, Gail Webb, Dennis Wilhite and Doug Hammack.

Loyd Brazeal
Odessa - Loyd Brazeal, 68, of Odessa, passed away January 11, 2007 at Hospice House.
Memorial service will be held today, Feb. 9th, 2007 at 1 p.m. at St. Lukes United Methodist Church in Odessa with Pastor Kevin Bushart officiating.

Deanna Lou Hill
ODESSA - Deanna Lou Hill was met by Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ in Our Heavenly Kingdom on Tuesday February 6, 2007.
Deanna, 50, of Odessa surrounded by all her Loving Family, passed away at her daughter’s residence. She was born December 15, 1956 in Beaumont, Texas to Lou and Dorthy Pritchard Leyendecker. She was a Christian and a secretary for Watson/Packer Oil Field Co. She also served 10 years as deputy for the Ector County Sheriffs Department.
She is preceded in death by parents, sisters, Jennifer and Tymmara Leyendecker and uncle, Frank Ewell.
She is survived by son, Justin Hill of Odessa; daughter, Kiley Jeter of San Antonio; mother, Ann Ewell of Round Rock; sisters, Sheila Daniels of Round Rock and Diana Randell of Odessa; four grandchildren, Mikaila, Karen, Kevin, of San Antonio and Alyssa of Odessa; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and lots of friends.

Ignacio Guzman
ODESSA - Ignacio Guzman, 82, of Odessa, passed away February 6, 2007 at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born April 9, 1924 in Mexico City to parents Jose Guzman and Maria Luisa Rivas. He was a self employed mechanic.
Visitation will be held today, from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the funeral home with a rosary being said at 7:30 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 10, 2007 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Mark Miller officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.

Michael Dean Huff
ODESSA - Services for Michael (Mike) Dean Huff, 51, are set for 11 A.M., Monday, February 12, 2007, at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Griffin Jones officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
A family visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, February 11, in the chapel of Frank Wilson Funeral Directors.
The West Texas native and Permian High School Graduate passed away February 1, 2007, in New Maadi, Cairo, Egypt, where he had lived and worked 2 years.
Mike was born March 21, 1955 in Midland, Texas, to Sam and Sally Huff. He moved to Odessa in 1958 and graduated from Permian High School in 1973. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1975 and was stationed in Okinawa. Though he was honorably discharged in 1979, he remained a loyal Marine the rest of his life.
He was hired by Lufkin Industries in 1982. Initially, his main responsibility was sweeping the floors at the company’s plant in Odessa. He steadily worked his way up the corporate ladder, a process that led to a move to Kuwait in 1997 as a sales representative in Lufkin’s Middle East operation. He later moved to Egypt and was the Regional Sales Manger for Middle East and North Africa.
Mike was a unique and outgoing character who was almost impossible to ignore or forget. A supremely confident individual, he jokingly described himself as a “man with charisma.” His large number of friends and his innate talent for making new friends in virtually any culture or spot on the globe lent credence to his self-portrait.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Sally Huff.
Survivors include his wife Lori, sons, Colin and Josh Huff of Odessa, daughter, Savannah Porter of San Angelo; brothers, Joe Huff and wife, Aloma of Leander, Texas; Carl Huff and wife, Terrie of Dallas; sister, Debbie Bailey of Humble, Texas; father- and mother-in-law Billy, and Phyllis Howell of Odessa; Brother and sisters in laws, Sherri and Jerry Dugan; Becky and Billy Howell, Mavis Howell (Me-Ma) and a whole host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.
Pallbearers will be, Mark Garner, Chuck Deathridge, Dane Widener, Randy Watts, Randy Hughes and Ron Chilcoate. Honorary pallbearers will be John Shelton and Bruce Shearer.
The family would like to send a special thanks to Lufkin Industries, Randy and Jeania Lewis, and The General Dynamics Family of Cairo. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.

Oneta Hubbard
EARLY - Oneta Hubbard, age 84, of Early and formerly of Odessa died Tuesday afternoon at a Brownwood Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, January 9, at the First Baptist Church in Early with Rev. Eddie Alshie and Rev. Calvin Knight officiating.
Burial will follow in the Cross Cut cemetery under the direction of Heartland Funeral & Cremation Service in Early.
She was born September 12, 1922, in Cross Cut, the daughter of the late Jesse Leroy and Atha Hylas Mason Byrd. She married
Arcie B. Hubbard on February 18, 1940, in the community of Williams in northern Brown County. They were happily married
for 60 years. He preceded her in death in January 2000. They moved to Odessa where she worked for the Ector County schools serving as a bus driver and a teacher of driver education. She retired from the school district and they moved to Early in 1983.
While in Odessa, she was very active and enjoyed her church family at Vine Avenue Baptist Church and later as a member of the First Baptist Church of Early.
She was a very loving mother and grandmother and leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Betty Hubbard of Odessa; three sisters, sisters, Norma Jean Wilson of May, Texas, Ellowayne Tatom of Cross Plains, Texas and Dolores Magee of San Angelo, Texas; five grandchildren, Jason Hubbard and wife Nadia, Daniel Hubbard and wife Kary, Paul Hubbard and wife Brenda, Shelley Williford, and Sheri Hallmark and husband Zane; nine great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, Howard Hubbard, and a brother, Leon Byrd.
