Bobby Joe Alvey
Odessa - Bobby Joe Alvey, 58, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2006 in Dallas, Texas.
Bobby Joe Alvey was born on April 4th, 1948 in Monahans, Texas and grew up in Crane, Texas.
Mr. Alvey served in the U.S. Airforce in Europe. He returned to Texas to complete a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and to obtain his Doctorate of Chiropractic. Among his hobbies were spending time with his beloved family and boating on the nearby Lake Grapevine. He was a devoted, loving and kind Christian, father, brother, and son.
Surviving are his wife, Diane Alvey, his son Dallas Alvey, his daughter Rachel Alvey, his sister Connie Clonts, his brother Daniel, and his mother Linda Alvey.
Service will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel, on Monday May 1st, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. with Ken Black officiating. Interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements were under the direction of Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home, Odessa, Texas.
Elvira ‘Nanny’ Cabrera
Odessa - Elvira “Nanny” Cabrera, of Odessa, passed away April 27, 2006, in Odessa.
She was born April 26, 1926 in Fort Stockton.
Rosary will be said at 4 p.m. Monday at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, 2006 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father Mark Miller officiating.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Jesus “Papa” Cabrera of Odessa; daughters, Viola Cabrera, and Joye Cabrera and husband Larry Dickman; brothers, Manuel and Elpedia Flores, and Bentura Flores; sisters, Victoria Jordan, Matilde Jaquez, and Paula and Cipriano Holguin; grandchildren, Gina Foster, Debby Mireles and husband Jeremy, Jason Walker and wife Holly, Nikki Martinez, Ashley Jackson and Shane McKenzie, and Jonathan Garcia; great-grandchildren, Kristi Torres, Eskee Sutton III, Alex Hambright, Braden and Bonny Walker, Kiana Bryant, Cedric Hall and Damian Mireles.
Alonzo ‘Piro’ Garcia
Odessa - Alonzo “Piro” Garcia Surronded by his Loving Family passed away to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Thursday April 27, 2006 at his residence. He was born June 17, 1937 in Marfa, Texas to Juan and Carmen Vasquez Garcia, He united in marriage to Maria Trejo August 20, 1963 here in Odessa, Mr. Garcia was a Christian Catholic with hard working hands in the Bricklaying and Construction Industry always ready and eager to go to work and do his duty to bring the daily bread home to his wife and kids. He was also an avid Dallas Cowboy fan and enjoyed going to the ball games to watch his grandkids play Baseball and Softball, above all while dancing and listening to his favorite radio stations and cassettes of Polo Urias and Little Joe, his time was most precious and spent by, being by the side of his wife. He is preceded in death by his Father: Juan Garcia and Two Brothers: Federico, Oscar Garcia. He is survived by Wife : Maria T. Garcia of Odessa, Mother: Carmen V. Garcia of Marfa, Texas, Son: Jesus Alonzo and wife Susie of Odessa,Daughters: Becky Dominguez, Florinda Garcia Armendarez and husband Natividad, Christina Garcia, Rosa Garcia Alvarez and husband Edward, Sister: Enedina “Nina” Reynolds all of Odessa, 13 Grandchildren, 5 Great-Grandchildren several Nieces, Nephews, Cousins and Lots of Friends. Billy ‘Bill’ Frank Miller
Odessa - Billy “Bill” Frank Miller, 72, was healed and embraced by our lord on Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at the Hospice House in Odessa, TX after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was born in Wichita County, TX on July 12, 1933 to Paul and Opal (Clarkson) Miller. Bill attended school in Lueders and Hawley, TX. Bill married
his high school sweetheart, Clara Belle King on August 6, 1951 and moved to Andrews in 1952 and in 1954 his family moved to Odessa where he worked for Eastland Oil Company. He worked 15 years for Texaco and later retired from Union Texas Petroleum after 17 years. Then, he continued in the oil industry for 5 more years with Henry Production of Midland.
He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed golf, bowling, and playing dominoes with his family. Keeping and maintaining his yard was a source of great joy.
Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Clara Miller, daughter, Sherry Miller Lippe, and husband Johnny of Odessa, sons Billy Frank Miller, Jr. of Iowa Park and Ronney Zane Miller and wife, Yon Chu of Seoul, South Korea. Also, two precious granddaughters, Leigh Ann Lippe Anderson of Corinth, TX and Teri Lynn Lippe of Austin, TX and one great grandson, Tristen Lane Anderson. His siblings include Paul Miller, Jr. of McCamey, John Miller and wife, Sidney of Amarillo, George Miller and wife, Pat of Andrews, Juanita Miller Howell of Clinton, MS, Jerry Miller and wife, Betty of Midland, Ed Miller and wife, Linda of Littleton, CO and numerous nieces and nephews and wonderful friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Bobby Miller and Gerald Miller and one sister, Margaret Miller Dobbins.
We mourn the passing, celebrate the life and cherish the memories of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother.
Visitation will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home on Sunday, April 30, 2006 from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Graveside Memorial Services will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens on Monday, May 1, 2006 at 10 a.m. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at Chapel Hill Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m.

Cindy Marie Marshall
Odessa - Cindy Marie Marshall, 42, of Cedar Park, Texas passed away on April 27, 2006 in Temple, Texas. She was born in Odessa, Texas on January 11, 1964.
She is survived by her mother, Ann Mathis of Cedar Park, Tx., brother, Larry Paul Marshall of Leander, Tx., sister, Mandy Melissa Duran of Cedar Park, Tx., niece, Tiffany Ann Marshall of Leander, Tx., nephews, Michael, Malachi, and Jacob Duran all of Cedar Park, Tx., aunt, Pauline Sutton of Odessa, Tx., Uncles, Stephen, Johnny, Joseph, and Rudy Janosik.
She is preceded in death by her father, Mark Mathis, grandmother, Myrtle Gaile, grandfather, Joseph Janosik, great grandparents, Austin and Ethel Griggs, and great great grandparents, Walter and Bertie Dancer.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, Monday, May 1, 2006 at Sunset Funeral Home. Graveside services will begin at 1:00 PM, at Sunset cemetery.

Gladys Hawkins
ODESSA - Gladys Hawkins, 90, of Tyler, died Sunday, April 30, 2006, at Hospice Home Place in Tyler.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 8, 2006, at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Odessa with the Rev. Darin Wilson officiating.
Survivors include a son, James R. Hawkins of Los Angeles, Calif.; twin daughters, Brenda K. Murphy and husband Johnny of Odessa and Linda K. Hawkins of San Bernandino, Calif.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Kelly Shifflet Vines
ODESSA - Kelly Shifflet Vines went to be with our Lord on May 4th, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer, at Hospice House in Odessa, Texas.
Kelly was born March 11th, 1962 in Odessa, Texas to Russell Eugene Shifflet and Linda Kathryn Ellithorpe. She graduated from Permian High School in 1980 and attended Stephen F. Austin University. Kelly married
Vince Vines April 16th, 1988 and worked with her husband Vince, at their family owned business Vines Insurance Agency, and had also been employed with Evans Pharmacy and New York Life-AFLAC. Kelly was a dedicated wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt and grand-daughter. Kelly was an active member of Reagan Elementary PTA, past President and Pledge of the year of Beta Sigma Phi and a sponsor of the American Cancer Society. She had uncountable friends who will miss her because she gave and gave to everyone.
Mrs. Vines is predeceased by Ivan (PaPa) Shifflet of Odessa, Bill (PaPa) and Marcene (Nanny) Hawkins of Dallas, and father-in-law, Sam Vines.
Kelly is survived by her husband, Vince Vines; children, Jackson and Grayson; parents, Linda Ellithorpe and step-father, Charlie Ellithorpe of Odessa; Gene Shifflet and step-mother, Pat Shifflet of Houston; brothers, Kyle Shifflet of Odessa, Kevin Shifflet of Austin; sister, Keri Brooks and husband Todd Brooks of Odessa; nephews, Dillon Digby and Braydon Brooks of Odessa, Jake Vines of Dallas; nieces, Baylee Brooks of Odessa, Callie Vines of College Station; grandmother, Fay (MaMa) Shifflet of Odessa; mother-in-law, Chessa Vines of Odessa and brother-in-law, Vic Vines of Dallas.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home with a private family viewing.
Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 6th, 2006 at the Temple Baptist Church and graveside services following immediately at Sunset Memorial Gardens in the Garden of Good Shepherd.
Pallbearers will be Denn Whalen, Tom Meek, Kevin Mannix, J.J. Decair, Vic Vines and Ricky Reynolds.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Kyle Shifflet, Kevin Shifflet, Ray Shifflet and Gary Shifflet.
Kelly requested that, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Hospice House of Odessa and the American Cancer Society.
Hoie Charles Meinzer
ODESSA - Hoie Charles Meinzer, 89, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, May 3, 2006 at a local hospital.
He was born March 6, 1917 in Rotan, TX to Fernando and Lula Meinzer.
He was a long time employee of Gulf Refining Co. and a WWII Army veteran. He married
Imogene Roberson on June 30, 1951 in Jal, N.M. He was an active and long time member of the First Church Of The Nazarene.
Mr. Meinzer was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Edith Meinzer and brothers, Arch, Bob, and Murl Meinzer.
He is survived by his wife, Imogene of Odessa, sons, Gary Meinzer and wife Paula of The Woodlands, Eugene Wilkerson and wife Sally of Carrollton, granddaughter, Lisa Preissler and husband Eric, grandsons, Derek Meinzer, Greg Meinzer and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mr. Meinzer has left this earth to be with his Lord, and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 6, 2006 at the First Church Of The Nazarene with Rev. Terry Pierce officiating.
Graveside services will follow at the Kermit cemetery in Kermit.

Alvie Parker Asbury II
Odessa - Alvie “Porkey” Asbury 50, of Odessa went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, May 4th. Mr. Asbury was a long time resident of Odessa, where he enjoyed many of life’s great treasures. He loved spending time with his many life long friends and family. He has been a pipeline welder for 30 years and loved every minute of it. He took great delight in spending many weekends on the road with his son Alvie Asbury III in their team roping challenges. In all his travels between the roping and the welding he has seen many lands many of us never will. He was born to Alvie and Tennie Asbury on January 15th of 1956. He had a fairy tale marriage for thirty years with the wonderful lady Brenda Kay Wilson Asbury and they had three beautiful children together. He enjoyed the many relationships he developed while working for Chevron, Holloman, and many other pipeline companies. He was preceded in death by his mother Tennie Lee Miller Asbury of Odessa, father Alvie Parker Asbury of Odessa, brother Elbin Adam Asbury of Anson, and nephew Sam Thomas Patton. He leaves behind long time love of his life, wife Brenda Kay Wilson Asbury, and three children Alvie III, Andrew, and daughter Amanda. Sister Cleda S. Patton and C.B. Barbour of San Antonio. Niece Amy and John White III and their children John IV and Remy, and brother Steven Asbury and Sherry of Arlington with children Samantha of Atlanta, GA., Jason and Amanda Newcomb and Casey Newcomb of Arlington. His sister-in-law Cynthia Asbury and children Ryan Asbury both of Abilene and Blake LeBaron of Las Vegas, NV. Mother-in-law Frances Wilson, Rhonda, Mike, Matt, and Morgan Caley all of Odessa, and Jimmie, Judy, Ben, Nick, Jennifer, Meegan, and Jared. Services will be held at West Side First Baptist Church on Monday, May 8th at 10:00 a.m. Visitation with the family will be held at Acres West Funeral Chapel, 8115 W. University Blvd on Sunday, May 7th from 2 to 4 p.m.
Nell Dean Nunley Carter
Seminole - Nell Dean Nunley Carter, 77, of Seminole passed away Friday, May 5, 2006 in Odessa, Texas.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, May 8th at 2:30 p.m. in the M.S. Doss Community Chapel in Seminole, with Bro. Leo Copeland officiating, assisted by Jason Moore. Interment will follow in the Gaines County cemetery with services under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home of Seminole.
Mrs. Carter was born on April 24, 1929 in Shackelford County, Texas to Porter Dean and Margie Ethel Nunley. She married
Victor Jack Carter in 1948 at Lubbock, Texas. She loved to read, play bridge, and spend time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of the Westside Church of Christ. Nell was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Cliff Nunley, Jim Nunley, Bob Nunley and a sister Maurene Greenlee Davis.
She is survived by her husband Victor Jack Carter of Seminole, two daughters Susan Masters of Odessa, Texas, Kay Utsinger and husband Kelly of Amarillo, Texas, one son Bruce Carter and wife Hazel of Atwood, Oklahoma, four grandchildren Lisa Armstrong of Odessa, Texas, Monte Masters of Rowlett, Texas Amy Utsinger Rogers of Amarillo, Texas, and Emily Utsinger of Amarillo, Texas, five great-grandchildren Brance and Bailey Armstrong of Odessa, Texas, Abbey, Brett, and Chad Masters of Rowlett, Texas.

Jewel C. Gandy
ODESSA - Jewel Gandy, 84 of Odessa, TX left this world on may 4, 2006 to join her beloved husband of 53 years, O.C. (Smokey) Gandy.
They came to Odessa in 1947; he preceded her in death November 2000.
She was born in Ada, OK on August 5 1921.
She is survived by sons, Bobby of Dallas TX, Roland and Chuck of Odessa TX; daughter Barbara of Bullhead City AZ. She is also survived by gransons Chris of Dallas, and Ty and Hunter of Odessa.
Services are being handled by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors and scheduled for 2 pm on Monday, May 8 at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
