Albert C. Yeilding

Odessa - Albert C. Yeilding, 89, a long time resident of Odessa passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at his residence.
Albert was born on November 13, 1916 in San Angelo to James Clinton & Julia Mae (Choate) Yeilding. He grew up in Gatesville, Coryell County, Texas and attended school in Oglesby, Texas.
Albert married Blanche Clemons on February 8, 1938 in Gatesville, TX at the home of Rev. E.D. Shelton with Rev. Shelton officiating.
He was a Gideon and a Deacon in the Baptist Church since 1947.
He served in the Army as a baker in England from December 1943 to November 1945. His early employment included cafe cook and floor sanding & finishing. Since leaving Gatesville, he has lived in Grandfalls, Crane, & Odessa, TX., where he was a grocery store manager, he owned his own floor sanding & finishing business and later went to work in the oilfield where he was employed by Forest Oil Corporation and Ref-Chem. He and Blanche owned and operated Blanche’s Beauty Salon in Odessa for 17 years. He also owned and operated A & B Electric Motors for several years after he retired from working in the oilfield.
Albert was preceded in death by his daughter, Bonnie Yeilding, both of his parents and his brothers, Hollis C. Yeilding, Everett Yeilding, S. L. Yeilding & Ralph Yeilding.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Blanche Yeilding of Odessa, daughters, Donna Carr & husband Roger of Odessa, Marty Cypert & husband Jimmy of Marshall, TX. Kay Forrester & husband Larry of Broken Arrow, OK., five granddaughters, Shasta Plumer & husband Mark of New Orleans, LA., Christie Wolfe & husband Wes of San Angelo, TX., Cynthia Carr of Mesquite, TX., Tracey Beighle & husband J.B. of Broken Arrow, OK., Tobi Cypert of Marshall, TX., two grandsons, Casey Forrester of Broken Arrow, OK., Richard Carr & wife Shelley of Mesquite, TX., and eleven great-grandchildren, Danica Plumer, Cameron Plumer, Sydnee Burleson, Sebastian Cole, Lyric Lee, Richard Carr Jr., Nicholas Carr, Erin Walker, Kristopher Carr, Paxton Wolfe, and Adrianna Beighle.
There will be a visitation 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 11, 2006 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2006 at Northside Baptist Church with Rev. Clydel Chapman & Rev. Jeff Chapman officiating. Graveside services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2006 at the Restland City cemetery in Gatesville.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to the building fund for Northside Baptist Church of Odessa, Home Hospice of Odessa or the charity of your choice.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Elva T. Rodriguez

Odessa - Elva T. Rodriguez, 80, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at Hospice House. She was born May 15, 1925 in Mulato Chihuahua to Jesus Tavarez and Benita Olivas. She married Medardo V. Rodriguez Sr. March 20, 1947. She was a Christian and retired. She worked for 18 years as a housekeeper at Avalon Place.
She is survived by her husband Medardo V. Rodriguez Sr., three sons, Jose Armando wife Irma Rodriguez of Juarez, Medardo Jr. wife Amparo Rodriguez of Odessa, Gusmaro wife Lucy Rodriguez of Houston, two daughters, Zulema R. husband Esteban Gonzalez of Ojinaga, Chih., Rosalinda R. husband Jesus Elias Guevara of Odessa, 23 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren.
Those who knew her will miss her smile and laughter.
Special thanks to all staff of Home Hospice, Nurses Unlimited and her providers of 11 years Deida Arroyo and Maly Arroyo.
Funeral Services will be held today, May 11, 2006 at 10 AM at Primera Iglesia Apostalica de fe en Cristo Jesus, 5533 W. Mapp St. with Pastor Roman Arreola officiating. Burial will follow at Rosehill cemetery. Services are under the direction of Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapels & Crematory.

Robert Wallette

Lubbock - Anchorage resident Robert “Bob” Wallette, 55, died April 27, 2006 while vacationing in Hawaii. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, May 12, 2006 at Resthaven Memorial Park in Lubbock. You may visit anytime at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Mr. Wallette was born December 15, 1950 in Salem, Illinois. He grew up in Odessa, TX, and graduated from Permian High School in 1969. On August 1, 1969, he married his high school sweetheart, Tommie Richardson.
In 1973, he joined the Air Force as an intelligence analyst and was stationed at Fort Meade, MD., Misawa Air Base, Japan, and Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska, where he retired in June 1997. He graduated from Wayland Baptist University in 1997 with a bachelor’s degree in occupational education. Afterward, he remained in Alaska working on Elmendorf AFB as a contractor with Science Application International Corp.
He enjoyed traveling, read-
ing, playing cards and spending time with his two beloved grandchildren, Kylie and Aidan.
Mr. Wallette was a member of Turnagain Church of Christ in Anchorage, Alaska, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, and Experimental Aircraft Association.
Survivors include his wife of 36 years, Tommie; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Jana Wallette, Denny and Tammy Wallette, and Nick Wallette and girlfriend Rainbow Chandler; grandchildren, Kylie and Aidan Wallette; mother, Catherine Wallette; sisters, Margie DeBenedetto and Charlotte McBrayer; brother, Ronnie Wallette; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Wallette; and brother, Larry Wallette.

Michael Lynn Whitt

Monahans - Michael Lynn Whitt, age 52, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2006 at Hospice House in Odessa after a courageous year long battle with cancer. Michael had been a resident of Odessa for the past 14 years. He was born August 13, 1954 in Kermit, Texas. He was an Air Conditioning Contractor. Michael was a member of the U.S. Marines and was stationed in California. He was also a member of Life Challenge Church in Odessa.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday, May 12, 2006 at Harkey Family Funeral Services Chapel with Reverend Dan Smelser officiating. A graveside service with follow at the Monahans Memorial cemetery Pavilion. Services are under the direction of Harkey Family Funeral Services in Monahans.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Whitt of Monahans; and a brother, Ed Whitt of Corpus Christi. Michael was preceded in death by his Father, E.W. “Dub” Whitt August 5, 1989, and his identical twin brother, Jerry Whitt August 13, 1954.

Frances Barr

Big Spring - Frances Barr, 82, of De Soto, formerly of Vincent, died on Tuesday, May 9, 2006, in a De Soto nursing home. Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 13, 2006 at Trinity Memorial Park Peace Chapel with Rev. Walter McCall, pastor of Vincent Baptist Church, officiating.
She was born on August 15, 1923, in Hamilton County, Texas and married Vernie Luther Barr on September 9, 1939 in Vincent, Texas. He preceded her in death on February 6, 1994.
Mrs. Barr had been a resident of Vincent most of her life. She was a member of Vincent Baptist Church. Survivors include one son; one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and David Greene of Whitesboro; seven grandchildren, Craig Phillips, Greg Phillips, Bradley Phillips, Stacey Watson, Michelle Daniels, Shannon Becker and Sharon Riat; three sisters, Pat Bradford of Vincent, Ruth Wirsching of Corpus Christi, and Ima Jean Maddox of Big Spring; and seventeen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Jettie Shepherd; one brother, J.C. Shepherd, Jr.; and four sisters, Inez Howell, Glade Costin, Louise Ingram, and Gertrude McGuffen. Dorothy Salyi

Odessa - Dorothy Salyi age 80 of Odessa, passed away May 11, 2006 at Medical center Hospital. Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, May 15, 2006 at Rosehill cemetery in Odessa. Visitation will be from 6-8 PM Saturday May 13, 2006 at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Salyi was born Feb. 28, 1926 in Akron OH. to Tho mas and Josephine Kral. She was a retired paralegal from the Gerald Fugit Law Firm.
Survivors include:2 sons, Albert Thomas Salyi of San Diego CA, and Robert Alan Salyi of Spring Valley CA; 2 daughters, Josephine Ann Marshal of Moriarty NM, and Doral Jean Banos of Lubbock TX; 7 grandchildren, Aaron Salyi, Joshua Salyi, Jeana Genesta, Joyce Genesta, Joani Genesta, Stefani Salyi, and Steven Salyi; 10 great-grandchildren, and 9 nieces and nephews.
Services entrusted to Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

William Wright ‘Bill’ Wicks, Jr.

ODESSA - Bill Wicks, 73, of Odessa, passed away May 10, 2006 at the Parks Methodist Retirement Village in Odessa. He was born May 1, 1933 in Ralls, Texas to parents William and Kate Wicks. Bill was retired, having previously been the owner of Wicks Advertising, Inc. of Odessa. A Navy veteran, aerobatic stunt pilot, accomplished fine artist, graphic designer, stand-up bass jazz musician and fly fisherman, Bill always enjoyed life to the utmost. Bill is survived by his daughter, Kathy Redwine Ott and her husband, Jason; grandsons Daniel Redwine, Timothy Redwine and Matthew Bailey; granddaughters Serah Redwine Christesson and her husband, Isaac, and Kasi Dye; great-granddaughter, Bethany Christesson; and his sister, Sammie Wicks. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son, Todd Wicks.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 13, at 10 a.m. at the Frank W. Wilson Funeral Home, 4635 Oakwood, Odessa, with pastor Jimmy Braswell officiating. Visitation with family members will be held starting at 8 a.m. that morning. The family members would like to express their gratitude to all of Bill’s doctors, the staff of Medical Center Hospital, the staff of Parks Methodist Retirement Village and Myra Raney with Hospice for their care and concern.

Ventura Berzosa

Odessa - Ventura Berzosa 57 years died Friday May 12,2006 at his residence in Odessa. Mr.Berzosa was a catholic and was born July 14,1948 in La Porrena, Chihuahua Mexico to father Angel Berzosa and mother Victoria Portillo who both preceded him in death.Rosary will be helded Monday May 15,2006 at 7.30 P.M. at Martinez Smith Funeral Chapels & Crematory.Mass will be celebrated Tuesday May 16,2006 at 2P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr.Joe Uecker officiating.Burial will follow at Rosehill cemetery.Survivors wife Juliana V. Arvol Brown

Odessa - Arvol Brown, of Odessa, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2006.
He was born July 22, 1920 to William Ernest Brown and Etta Augusta Yossette Brown in Vanoss, Oklahoma. Arvol spent his youth in Spearsville, Louisiana, and in Midland, Texas. While in Midland, he was delivering the El Paso Times at the time that the Midland Reporter Telegram was established. He later returned to Spearsville where he graduated from high school. After high school he entered the service in 1942. Before World War II he married Betty Anderson. After proudly serving his country he came to Midland, where he owned and operated several grocery stores in the Midland and Odessa area. In the late 1960’s until the mid 1980’s he ran a farm in Gardendale growing pecans and alfalfa, and raising cattle. Arvol retired in 1997. Arvol loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and enjoyed attending family reunions.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two wives, Dean Brown, and Wynn Short Brown.
Arvol is survived by his son, Arvol Brown, Jr., and his wife, Totsie, of Midland, TX; daughter, Lynn Barbian and her husband, Mike, of Midland, TX; brother and sister-in-law, V.W. and Jo Brown of Austin, TX; grandchildren, Todd Yother of Odessa, TX; Terri Lyn Olguin and her husband, Tony, of Gardendale, TX; Mark Lawson, Marcus Brown, and Tonja Clark, Tina Brown, Tarin Brown, and Tony Brown; numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home, Sunday, May 14, 2006 between the hours of 3:00 P.M. and 5:00 P.M.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 1:00 P.M. Monday, May 15, 2006 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy., Midland, Texas 79701 (432) 683-5555.

Bernice D. Gainey

Lexingotn, Ky. - God called Bernice “Berni” D. Gainey home May 3, 2006 at the young age of 46. God needed her for a greater purpose.
She was a long time resident of Odessa, having lived in Lexington, Kentucky for the last eleven years. She graduated from Permian High School in 1978, where her love for animals led her to open Classic K-9 Dog Grooming leading her to her lifes passion.
Bernice will be missed for her bright smile and laughter by her close friends and family.
She is survived by her parents Ernest and Laura Gainey of Odessa, one brother Ray Gainey of Odessa, and extended family and friends.
Services were held in Lexington, Kentucky. For all who wish to keep Bernice's memory alive please make donations to the American Heart Association or the Human Society.
The family wishes to thank all who made Bernice's life a joy and especially those who expressed their sympathy and assisted in their time of loss.

Allen Phillips Smith Jr.

Odessa - Allen Phillips Smith Jr., 66, passed away Friday, May 12, 2006. He was born October 24, 1939 in Houston, Texas to Allen P. Smith, Sr. and Annie Green Smith.
Allen enlisted in the Air Force in 1956. During his 20 plus years of service he trained pilots in all aspects of survival skills. He achieved the rank of Master Sargeant.
After serving at Shepard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas, he moved to Odessa to begin work at National Oil Well.
Allen enjoyed family camping trips to the lake including ski lessons parasailing and fishing with all the “kids”. He loved “tinkering” with everything mechanical and completing projects with his son Kyle. Later in life his passion for riding his Harley motorcycle with his wife Kathy brought him great joy.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert Smith. He also lost his wife Sandra Jo to cancer in 2000.
Allen is survived by his current wife, Kathy Scroggins, her daughter, Krissy Larremore, his two sons, Kyle Smith and wife Jennifer, Guy Denon and wife Natalie, and his daughter Natalie and husband, Steve; grandchildren, Addison and Peyton Smith, Tanner Richie and Caliah Denon; nieces and nephews, Jan Sims and husband Jerry, Lori Searcy, Steve Guthrie and wife Eileen, David Guthrie and wife Debra and sisters-in-law, Sandy Swanson Smith and Betty Guthrie
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Odessa Chapter of the American Cancer Society at 811 Central Dr., Odessa, Texas, 79761.
Memorial Service Tuesday May 16, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home in Odessa, Texas,
