Velma Ada Coker Watson
Odessa - Velma Ada Coker Watson was born August 15, 1910 in Roby, Texas to Everett and Veta Hurst Coker. She was their oldest daughter and had two sisters and a brother. She graduated from Roby High School in 1928 and married
Arner Watson on February 2, 1930. She became a young farm wife and mother, gardening and canning food for her growing family and milking cows to send her children to college. Velma stayed busy throughout her life with oil and china painting, sewing, ceramics and numerous other arts and crafts. She especially liked making gifts for others. She was on the National Board and Texas State President of the Home Demonstration Clubs, a member of the Art Guild, President of the WMU, and Treasurer of the Old Spur Library. Velma was also a member of the Bluebonnet Club and on the board of the Senior Citizens of Spur, Texas. In later years she did reflexology massage treatments in Spur and had many clients coming to her home for relief of various aches and pains. Velma moved to Odessa in 1997 and lived happily at Lincoln Tower until January when she moved to Seabury Nursing Center. She died on the morning of June 5th, 2006 at the age of 95 and will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arner Watson; her son, Dean Alton Watson; her brother R.S. and sister Ione. She is survived by a son, Bill Watson and wife Beverly of Spur; a daughter, Sue Beth Watson Wilson of Odessa; granddaughter, Vicki Watson Buckbee and husband Bobby of Bryan; granddaughter, Dana Watson Starnes and husband Gary of Odessa; granddaughter, Melody Wilson Drinkard and husband Rob of Gardendale; grandson, Randy Wilson of Odessa; grandson, Kyle Watson and wife Elvira of Gladewater; grandson, Rodger Watson and wife Monica of Lubbock; and granddaughter Debbie Watson Tucker and husband Deron of Lubbock. She is also survived by a sister, Loveta Carlisle of Lubbock, 14 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
Services will be on Wednesday, June 7 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church in Spur with burial to follow at Spur Memorial cemetery. Arrangements are by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home in Odessa and Campbell Funeral Home in Spur. Pallbearers will be grandsons and husbands of granddaughters. Honorary pallbearer is Darrel Thomas.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Lincoln Tower Retirement Residence and Seabury Nursing Home for their tender loving care of our mother, grandmother and sister. Memorials are suggested to the Spur Senior Citizens Center, Spur cemetery Association or a charity of your choice.
Rayford L. Shaver
Palestine - Beloved husband, father, and grandfather left this world to be with his Lord & Saviour on Sunday, June 4, 2006, after a lengthy illness.
Rayford L. Shaver was born November 10, 1922 in Palestine, Texas to James Clayton and Annie Mae Shaver. After graduation, he joined the Merchant Marines and served on the Ship Margaret Brent from 1942 until 1945, during World War II. He was a Master Mason of the Grand Lodge of Kermit, #1258. He was employed by Sid Richardson Gas Co., as a plant superintendent for forty years. He was a christian and a faithful member of the Adult IV class, with his wife, Earlene Shaver. He was an associate member of the Retired Teachers Association of Texas, and helped his wife with extra duties when she was elected vice president for three years and President for two years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ione Skidmore, brothers, Adolph and J. C. Shaver, and his first wife, Nancy Scales Shaver.
He is survived by his wife, Earlene Shaver, two sons, Ronald Shaver and Gary Shaver and wife, Kay, granddaughter, Sydney Paige Shaver, sister, Opal Ashley, step-children, Dr. Lonnie R. Hayter, Jan Travland and family, and Gregory Hayter. Also step-children, Jason Lindsey and Tracee Bullock, and nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Evangelist Temple, New Beginnings Church (3011 N. Loop 256, Palestine, Texas), on Friday, June 9, 2006 at 2 p.m., with Dr. Lonnie Hayter officiating, and Dr. Barry Roberts assisting. Music will be present by Dan Gibbs, directing the First Baptist Church Choir and congregation of his home church in Monahans, Texas Interment will be in Roselawn cemetery of Palestine, next to Nancy Shaver, the mother of his two sons, Ronald and Gary Shaver.

Rayford passed away under the loving and considerate hands of this wonderful person with her dedicated staff and Star Hospice. Thank you Mo, for your good and faithful service. Bless you always, from the family and friends of Earlene and Rayford Shaver.

Martin Allerding
Fairfax, Va. - Martin Allerding, a retired Army Major, passed away April 19 in Centreville, Va. Major Allerding served 21 yrs in the Army which included a tour of duty in Vietnam, Germany & England. He received the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal. Army Commendation Medal. National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/Bronze, Vietnam Service Medal-4, RVN Campaign Medal, RVN Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, German Marksman Medal.
Martin was born Jan. 12, 1946 in Childress, Texas to Ken and Mary Allerding. He grew up in Odessa and graduated from Permian High School. He was a member of the corps of cadets at Texas A&M University. Graduating in 1968 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering. He received a Masters Degree from the University of Houston. In retirement, he also consulted for Pacific-Sierra Research in Rosslyn VA.
He married
Patricia Ann Propp, July 3, 1969. At Highland United Methodist Church with the brides uncle, Rev. Milton Propp officiating. He was proceeded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Patricia Ann, two daughters, Amy Allerding, Martha Siwik and husband J.T. and four grandchildren, Austin and Abigail Allerding, Brendan and Shane Siwik. He is also survived by his father and mother-in-law Robert and Florence Propp of Odessa TX.
Services were held April 24 at Fairfax Funeral Home in Fairfax, Va. Burial will be June 14 at Arlington National cemetery with full Military honors.
Robert Russell Fisher
Odessa - Robert Russell Fisher, age 17, of Odessa, TX passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2006 at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth, TX.
Robert was born in Odessa, TX on July 6, 1988 to James and Dana Fisher. He attended Odessa High School. He liked Tae Kwon Do, dirt bikes, four-wheelers, and loved music. He was a wonderful son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend, who lived life to its fullest.
Robert is survived by his parents: James Fisher of Weatherford, TX, and Dana Fisher and Terry Oglesby of Odessa, TX, sisters: Cyndi McCarty and husband Steven of Odessa, and Kristi Fisher of Jal, NM. He is also survived by his grandparents: Robert and Elizabeth Rautio of Odessa, and John and Sammie Fisher of Saginaw, TX, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and his only nephew, Devon Zeigenbein.
Visitation for Robert will be Saturday and Sunday, June 10 and 11 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held Monday, June 12, 2006 at 10:00 am at Sunset Memorial Chapel with Don Potter officiating.
The family would like to recognize Robert’s generous gift of life to at least seven people, who will have a chance at a life they might not otherwise have had. It is through these gifts that Robert will live on.
Max Malone
Lubbock - Max Malone of Lubbock passed away Saturday June 10, 2006 at his residence. He was born May 8, 1933 in Olton, Texas to the late Walter and Novia (Wilks) Malone. Max graduated from Olton High School, Texas Tech and Southwest Graduate School of Banking. He served in the United States Navy. After graduation from Tech he re-turned to Olton where he taught Vocational Agriculture in the high school and farmed.
Later he was involved in banking in New Mexico and Texas. He and his wife were co-owner of Magnum Motors, Inc.
Mr. Malone is survived by his wife Alzada, children; Monte Malone of Lantana, Mark Malone of Keller Wes
Spruiell of Belton and Shelly Eversole of Sierra Vista, Arizona; six grandchildren and one sister Diana Ray of Odessa.
Celebration of Life services will be at Resthaven’s Abbey Chapel Monday June 12, 2006 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Randal Hamilton officiating. Inter-ment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the di-rection of Resthaven Funeral Home.

Arlene Holland Pack
Odessa - Arlene Holland Pack beloved mother and retired custodian passed away at 6:57 a.m. at Crane Nursing Home. She was 87.
She was born in Mansfield, AR, and lived in Odessa for 51 years. She was a faithful member of Temple Baptist Church for 34 years.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Alton Pack, son, Herman Pack, granddaughter, Amanda Stecker, four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include three sons, Donald Joe Pack, Sr, of Lacombe, LA, Douglas Arthur Pack of Dumas, TX, and Danny Ray Pack of Southlake, TX; seven grandchildren, Donald Joe Pack, Jr, David Pack, Denise Stanley, Douglas Pack, Angela Ortiz, Kristie Graham and Michelle Pack, and 13 great-grandchildren, Bill Stanley, Ashley Pack Garrett, Emily Stecker, Nathan, Daniel, Luke, Julia and Emma Grace Ortiz, Jordan, Konner & Victoria Graham, Joshua and Austin Pack and sister-in-law, Grace Holland.
She was the daughter of the late Moses A. Holland and Lydia Scroggins Holland.
There will be a family visitation from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Monday, June 12, 2006, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at Temple Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Thomason officiating.

Louise Norcross Wheat
Kermit - Louise Norcross Wheat passed away on Thursday, June 1 at 3:00 PM in Wichita Falls, Texas. She was born on November 14, 1917 in Ozona, Texas. She was the third child of Oscar Norcross and Thalia Brown, a rancher in that area. She graduated from Our Lady, Queen of Peace High School in Dallas and then attended Odessa College obtaining a degree in cost accounting. Louise married
Alden Rogers, a prominent businessman in Odessa. They had one child, Scooter, who passed away at an early age.
On June 15 of 1956, she married
James Jackson Wheat, a rancher in Mentone, Texas. They had one daughter, Joy and later adopted a son, Stoney. They resided in Pecos prior to moving to Kermit. Louise was an active member of the First Christian Church and both country clubs. Golf, bridge, and traveling with Jim kept her fully occupied. She was a member of the Texas Art Alliance. Following Jim’s death in 1989, she moved to their home in Alto, New Mexico where she continued her activities. Her mother, Thalia Brown; father, Oscar Norcross; husband, Jim Wheat; daughter, Joy Wheat Williams; son, Stoney Wheat; and brothers, Tom Norcross and Lendsea Norcross preceded her in death. Her two grandsons, James Jackson Wheat Williams and Thomas Robert Williams of Wichita Falls, Texas survive her. Her sister Jana Vee Cintron resides in California. Aline DeNoyer, her youngest sister, lives in Oregon. She will be missed by her many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as her immediate family and friends.
Memorial services in honor of Louise’s memory will be held 2:00 pm Monday, June 12, 2006 at Family Services Funeral Chapel in Kermit, Texas. The family suggests memorials be made to either the Alzheimer’s Foundation or the First Christian Church of Ruidoso, New Mexico.

Micaela Ramirez De Chavarria
Odessa - Micaela Ramirez De Chavarria, 75, of Odessa passed away on April 15, 2006 at U.T. Southwestern Zale Lipshy Hospital in Dallas. She was born on September 29, 1930 in Vicente Guerrero Durango, Mexico.
Services will be held on April 19, 2006 at 2 P.M. at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Fr. Joseph Uecker officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A Rosary will be held on April 18, 2006 at 7 P.M. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. She was preceded in death by her husband Gustavo Chavarria and a son Antonio Chavarria.
As a Daughter, as a Women, whom became a wife, whom flourished into a Mother, Grandmother and a Great-Grandmother, that so loved her children, adored her Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren. She was adored and will forever be missed in every form of expressions. For she has shown To Respect, To Honor and To Love One Another, We have no words in how to express one last Goodbye, My owe so sweet mother. How we love thee.
She is survived by Six sons; Gustavo Chavarria of Odessa, Gerardo Chavarria, of Odessa, Armando Chavarria of Houston, Hugo Chavarria of Odessa, Miguel Chavarria of Houston, Jose Natividad of Odessa. Four daughters; Yolanda Chavarria of Odessa, Graciela Velasquez of Odessa, Teresa Chavarria of Nayarit, Mexico and Maria Nieto of Odessa. 31-grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren.

Robert Xavier Billups
Midland - Robert Xavier Billups, of Midland, passed away Thursday, April 13, 2006 in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Born November 2, 1943 in Corpus Christi to Andrew X. and Dorothy Faye Capehart Billups, Bob was raised across the state but attended high school in Monahans and Seminole. He followed his father’s footsteps into the oil fields, working both stateside, overseas and on the seas with various oil companies since 1962. Bob traveled extensively around the world while living and working in such interesting places as Scotland, Libya, Spain, Malta, Kuwait, Azerbaijan, Somalia, Singapore, South Africa, Equatorial Guinea, Argentina, Chile, Australia, Haiti and Saudi Arabia. He had resided in Midland for many years and was well known locally for his years of work around the oil fields of West Texas, New Mexico and Louisiana. Bob met his sweetheart Faye King at their 25th Monahans High School reunion and they were married
in 1988. Faye quickly became Bob’s devoted travel companion. Bob was proud to work for Global Santa Fe International in Houston, and at the time of his passing had been working on the Gulf Coast of Texas on off-shore oil rigs damaged during last year’s hurricane season. His work on the Gulf Coast was finished this past week and Bob and his wife Faye were looking forward to a new adventure in Singapore and a following retirement.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Faye, one son Michael Billups, and two daughters, Lori and husband Scott Steel and Brenda and husband Randy Wilson. He also left two dear sisters Nancy McKinney and Beverly and husband Bill Parnell, 11 grandchildren, numerous family members, great friends the world over and his dear Dallas Cowboys.
The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home, Tuesday, April 18, 2006 between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Kelview Heights Baptist Church. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Bob would be happy that the very best of his friends and family are to see him off as pallbearers and honorary pallbearers: Rick Parnell, Larry Parnell, Armando Subia, Don Blair, Bill Childress, Bill Bush, Dennis Page, Ed Fredericks, Fred Coonce, Phil Philpy, Randy Matthews and Richard Counts. William D. ‘Bill’ Dickson
Midland - William D. “Bill” Dickson, 68, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2006 in Midland, Texas.
He was born on June 3, 1937, in Hot Springs, South Dakota to James and Ruby (Larson) Dickson. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Douglas.
Survivors include his loving wife, Joyce, of Midland; a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Collene Dickson of Lakewood, Colorado; a daughter and son-in-law, Kari and Rick Blake of Des Moines, Iowa; a daughter and son-in-law, Shelly and Val Varley of Clarksville, Texas; three brothers, James Dickson of St. Paul, Minnesota, Tedd Dickson of Westfield, Massachusetts and Gary Dickson of Sioux Falls, Iowa.
He was a loving and proud grandfather of nine grandchildren; Christine, Billy, Jesse, Nikki, Zack, Samantha, Alysha, Jordan and Breanna. He also had two great grandchildren, Kyle and Isabella.
Bill graduated from high school in Sturgis, South Dakota in 1955. He attended Iowa State University, majoring in architecture. He was a member of Delta Tau Delta. He became a supervisor with Brown & Root, working on minutemen missiles in North Dakota. He was then self employed in the construction business in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1982 he moved to Odessa and worked with the HUD program. He later went into the property rental business in Midland.
Those left behind will dearly miss Bill and remember him for his kindness and sense of humor.
A memorial service to honor his life will be held at 3:00 PM Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at the Nalley-Pickle & Welch Chapel in Midland.
