David O. Humphries
Odessa - David O. Humphries, 76, of Odessa passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2006 at Medical Center Hospital. He was born August 13, 1929 in Womack, TX., Bosque County, to Calvin & Annie B. Humphries. He was a pipeliner, and a member of Local Union #798 in Tulsa, OK. He was proud to say that he worked on the Alaska Pipeline in 1976. He married
Patricia Williams November 13, 1954 in Glen Rose.
He grew up in Bosque County, and he moved to Odessa after marrying in 1954 to work in pipeline construction. He loved taking his family back to Bosque County for camping and fishing. David grew up during hard times and it made him appreciate life, and he was totally devoted to his family. He worked hard all his life, always giving more than what was expected of him. There wasn’t a job he could not do. He was always lending a hand to anyone who needed it. He gave unselfishly. He loved spending his “retirement” working on the farm, and he was proud of his work. He and Patricia loved to travel, which they did often. His work took he and his family all across the U.S.
His hobbies were building things, rebuilding his 1936 Ford, and working in his garden. He always made time for his family. He and Pat raised four children in Odessa and they always put their kids first. He was very proud of his family especially his 7 grandkids. He loved teaching his kids and grandkids how to do things for themselves. His grandkids always told people “my grandparents aren’t old, they are so cool, they do everything with us.”
David made friends easily and had many old friends that lasted a lifetime. He was loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Humphries of Odessa, son, Randal Humphries and wife Tracy of Midland, daughters, Tammy Fleeman and husband Dan of Odessa, Brenda Potts and husband Bob of Houston, and Sandy Humphries of Odessa, brother, Hershel Humphries of Jacksonville, FL. and (7) grandchildren, Travis Potts, Shelby Potts, Kyle Humphries, Joshua Humphries, Jennifer Humphries, Shane Fleeman & Kevin Fleeman.
There will be a visitation with family 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2006 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2006 at Highland United Methodist Church with Rev. David Weyant officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Robert D. Snoddy
Odessa - Robert D. Snoddy, 89, left our earth Tuesday morning, April 18, 2006 to join his wife of 64 years, Mary Ruth, to be together again for all eternity.
Born in Piedmont, West Virginia to Mr. & Mrs. William Snoddy. They moved to Uniontown, Pennsylvania, where Bob graduated high school an excellent athlete. He and several of his friends were offered athletic scholarships to Findlay College in Findlay, Ohio, the first in each of their families to receive college degrees. Bob played basketball and baseball for Findlay College, and was inducted into the Findlay College Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000. His first week at Findlay College, Bob met Mary Ruth and they were together until 2004 when Mary Ruth passed away, Bob and Mary Ruth were married
shortly after college graduation, 1942. Bob had just signed a professional baseball contract with the New York Yankees and “Finally had enough money for the marriage license.”
Bob played Professional baseball through the 1946 season, then went to work with Buckeye Ditching Machines in Findlay, Ohio. Bob, Mary Ruth and their two sons, Robert Charles and Thomas Beard, were transferred to Tulsa, OK, to help open Buckeye’s first parts distribution center to help address the booming oil and gas industry in Oklahoma.
In 1959, the Snoddy family moved to Odessa to join Plains Machinery. Through the next 25 years, Robert worked with Wells Machine; and then started Double Seal Ring Company, which he sold in the early ’80s to become a full-time swimming pool manager for the grandchildren.
Active civically, Robert belonged to Asbury Methodist Church, the Rotary and attended every baseball and basketball game within a 100-mile radius of Odessa for over 40 years.
Known and loved by an incredible number of people, Robert was blessed with many, many friends. They and his family will miss his wonderful spirit and love of life.
Robert is survived by his two sons, Robert Charles, Colleyville, TX, and Thomas Beard, Odessa, TX; four Grandchildren and three Great Grandchildren.
Visitation with the family will be at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Thursday, April 20, 2006 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Robert’s Funeral services will be at Asbury Methodist Church on Friday, April 21, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Paul E. Bauernfeind officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Asbury Wesley Sunday School Class. Pallbearers will be Steve Barron, John Bushman, Ragon Gilbert, Doug Shelton, Mike Podzemny, Terry Richey, Rodney Hurt and Les Littlejohn.
In honor of Bob’s love of Church and Sports, the family asks that Memorials be made to Asbury Methodist Church or the Odessa College Wrangler Club.

Donald A. Guess
Odessa - Donald A. Guess (Don Guess) 71 of Odessa passed away Tuesday April 18, 2006 at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa. He went into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father and his loving wife Connie Sue Guess who preceded him to Heaven July 12, 2003.
Memorial services will be held Monday April 24, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow at a later date in Wharton, Texas.
Don was born August 18, 1934 to Lynn Guess and Leona Hezne Guess in Wharton County, Texas. He graduated high school from Wharton High School and returned there from Sam Houston State University to teach math for awhile. He also served in the Army. He was a finance man, car salesman, mobile home salesman and an equipment salesman in the oil patch.
He and Connie were very active in the Ector County Sheriff’s Posse and both held many different offices in that organization, and were associated with many other organizations in Odessa and Texas. He was an avid horse and rodeo fan.
He is survived by: Jerry and Barbara Riley of Panama City Beach, FL; grandchildren Trent, Kelsey, Emily Abbigale, Marques, Austin, Caroline, Emma, Katie and Jay. Kirk and Lynn Riley, Austin, TX, grandchildren Holley and Sydney, Mike and Sandy Miller of Royse City, TX, grandchildren Ashley, Colt, Cutter and Caddie; one great-grandchild.
He was a lover of life and lived well and will be greatly missed by his friends.

Floyd M. Hood
Odessa - Floyd M. Hood, a retired coach and teacher, passed away March 16, 2006 at Parks Methodist Retirement Village. He was 71 years old.
Services will be held at a later date.
Floyd Marvin Hood was born October 6, 1934 in Wellington, TX. He attended Texas Tech on a football scholarship from 1955-1959 where he received his B.S. degree. While in high school he was named to an All American Football Team. He was also active in Golden Gloves Boxing where he was known as the Blond Bomber. He was also on the boxing team when he served in the U.S. Army as a Paratrooper. He was employed with E.C.I.S.D. for 14 years at Nimitz prior to retirement. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Kay Hood of Odessa; a son Michael Hood and his wife Laura of Tyler; daughters, Jamie Warnock and husband Curt of Spring, TX and Marcie Hood of Boulder, CO; (8) grandchildren, Carrie Patterson, Chris Patterson, Zayn Berger, Dameon Hood, Adrian Hood and Julian Hood, Melissa Warnock and Michael Warnock; (1) great-grandchild, Savannah.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to Parks Methodist Retirement Village for their help and support.

Cozette Hardcastle
Odessa - Cozette Hardcastle, 75, of Andrews passed away Thursday, March 16, 2006 at her residence. She was born October 16, 1930 in Strawn, TX. She graduated from Hardin Simmons University. She was a retired school teacher. She taught many years in Goldsmith and also at Dowling elementary. She was a member of Northside Baptist Church. She enjoyed shopping and buying for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Sam Hardcastle & wife Julie of Crane, daughter, Annell Udy & husband Jerry of Katy, TX. (8) grandchildren, Austin Hardcastle, Charlie Ann Hardastle, Nicki Seelke, Randi Trumbro, Andrew Trumbro, Danna Udy, Josh Udy & Pate Cribbs, and great-grandson, Alex Trumbro.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, March 20, 2006 at Northside Baptist Church with Rev. Clydell Chapman officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Ola Maye Johnston
Lubbock - Graveside services for Ola Maye Johnston will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 18, 2006 at Resthaven Memorial Park, with Dr. Ken Horn officiating. Ola Maye passed away March 16, 2006.
Ola Maye was born on September 13, 1912, in Mills County, Texas, to James P. and Katherine Dellis. She received her training at West Texas Hospital in Lubbock from 1933 to 1936 to become a Registered Nurse. She served as a nurse at Plains Clinic and St. Mary’s Hospital in Lubbock for over 40 years, retiring in 1980. Over the years, she touched countless lives with her loving care.
Ola Maye married
Otho H. Johnston on October 12, 1946. He preceded her in death in August of 1973.
Ola Maye was a member of First Baptist Church in Lubbock.
Survivors include her son, Ronald Gene Johnston, of Odessa, Texas, one granddaughter, two great-grandsons, and nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother and a sister.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to a favorite charity.
Wanda Jones
Amarillo - Wanda Jones, 67, was born July 24, 1938 and passed away March 15, 2006.
Memorial services were held Friday, March 17, 2006 at Cox Funeral Home Benton Chapel with Ty Jones of Cowboy Church officiating.
Cremation was done by Cox Funeral Home.
Mrs. Jones was born in Childress County and was raised in Estelline. She moved to Amarillo in 1955. She moved to Odessa in 1977 and returned to Amarillo in 1995. She owned and operated the “Big O” restaurant in Odessa and worked for Levi Strauss for over twenty years in Amarillo. She was a Baptist.
She is survived by her husband, Jerry Jones of Amarillo, three sons, Gary Adams and his wife Sandy of Amarillo, Doug Adams of Odessa, and Clay Adams also of Amarillo. One sister, Shirley Reece and her husband Bennett of Jayton, 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Daniel Lugo
Odessa - Daniel Lugo 34 years of age passed away March 16, 2006 in Odessa. He was born July 31, 1971 in El Paso, TX to parents Ruben & Ignacia Lugo. Visitation will be held Sat. & Sunday from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Services will be held Monday March 20, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapels with Pastor Alberto Flores officiating. Burial will follow at Rosehill cemetery. He survived by his parents Ruben & Ignacia Lugo of Juarez, MX, son, Nathaniel Lugo of Amarillo, TX, daughters, Marina Paredes Lugo and Natasha Lugo both of Odessa. Girlfriend, Claudia Terrazas & their unborn baby of El Paso, brother, Ruben Jesus Lugo and wife Terry, sisiters, Elizabeth Lozoya and husband Roberto of Odessa, Sandra Ramos and husband Tacho of El Paso, Karla Flotte and husband Hector of El Paso, Wendy Lugo of Odessa and several nieces and nephews. Services are under the direction of Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapels & Crematory.
LeAvis Reeves Sterling
Odessa - LeAvis Reeves Sterling first blessed this earth with her presence on November 16, 1920 in Magnolia, Arkansas. She was the 2nd born child to Willie A. and Gertrude (Trudie) Reeves.
She was a member of Second Baptist Church for over 30 years and President of the Glory Choir for almost 10 years.
After a long illness, our beloved Mother was peacefully returned into our Heavenly Father’s loving arms on Wednesday at 12 p.m., March 15, 2006 at The Hospice House in Odessa, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her son Noel Ezra Hurst in 1947 at the age of 3, her stepson Larry Brooks Sterling, her husband Clinton Brooks Sterling, both her parents, and stepdaughter Peggy Lee Yarber.
She is survived by sons David Duane Hurst and wife JoAnne of LaPorte Texas, Daniel Wayne Hurst and wife Minda and Robert Brent Sterling and wife Angie, all of Odessa. She is further survived by grandchildren, Sonya Marlene Hurst Carper and Michael Shay Hurst both of Laporte, Roland Duane Hurst of Atsigui Japan, John Joseph Hurst, Svana Nicol Sterling and Jakobe Brooks Sterling, all of Odessa, Shawn Edison Hurst and Jeffery Leon Hurst both of Lewisville.
Other survivors are her stepson Norman Wilford Hurst and wife Elaine of Tyler, stepdaughter Linda Kay Jennings, and 7 step-grandchildren.
She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren and 8 step great-grandchildren.
She is further survived by two younger sisters, O’Reene Reeves Eddy of Searcy, Arkansas and Birdy Mae (Ann) Reeves Miller of Whittier, California and many nieces, nephews and other family members spread across Texas, Arkansas & California.
Special thanks to Irma Downs and Carole Wolf for their years of friendship and love to our Mother. The love, care and compassion we received at The Hospice House allowed our Mother and the family to cope with her final days with dignity, strength and peace.
Family will have visitation on Sunday, March 19, 2006, from 2-4 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral will be on Monday March 20, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home with burial following at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Brother Dave Adkins will present the eulogy.
