Janie White
Lindale - It is with a sad heart that I announce the passing of Shirley J. White (Janie), my “Angel from Heaven”, wife and best friend, of almost 10 years. My precious, precious Janie left this life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at 9:00 p.m.
I thank God for all the support, prayers, and comfort so many have offered during this very difficult and protracted journey. Special thanks to the nurse on duty who alerted me that Janie was passing quickly. She encouraged me to take advantage of those last few moments, which became a very precious gift.
My last time with her was most tender, as I held her hand, stroked her face, and looked deep into those wonderful eyes. It was then I quietly spoke those very private and special phrases I had said to her almost daily, throughout our entire marriage. As I prayed for her and gave quiet praise to our Heavenly Father, I loved her as much as I could with my words and tender caresses. Within 15 minutes, she was in the presence of God.
As Janie’s spirit passed, I raised my hands and lifted my eyes toward heaven and audibly expressed to our Heavenly Father how grateful I was that He had allowed her to be my wife. Truly, she was a gift from God. I then commended her spirit into his keeping and envisioned Jesus welcoming her home with open arms into eternity.
Our time together on this earth was wonderful. I would not have missed it for anything and without hesitation, would re-live all over again.
A special “Thank You”, to our immediate family, extended spiritual family, and friends, both old and new. You are too many to name individually, but please know that the appreciation and honor we feel goes beyond my capacity for words. May you reap God’s richest blessings for showing my Janie such honor, respect, and friendship.
Janie is survived by her husband, Terone S. White, and two sons, Paul and Daniel; her mother and father, Thomas and Willie Mae Kennedy of Odessa; her eldest brother Tom and his wife, Sheri, of New Mexico; her sister Carolyn and her husband, Mike Miller, of Taiwan; her brother Keith and his wife, Nancy, of Arlington; her brother Carl and his wife, Claudia, of Fort Worth; her mother and father-in-law J.R. and Joyce White of Lindale; and, her sisters-in-law Vicki White of Plano, and Darla Patterson of Sulphur Springs.
Visitation will be held at the Caudle-Rutledge Funeral Home in Lindale on March 19, 2006 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm. Knowing that this journey has touched and been shared by so many, Janie’s family would consider it a privilege to be able to meet you and express their personal appreciation for your prayers and support.
Funeral Services will be held at the First Baptist Church located just east of downtown Lindale on Hwy 16, Monday, March 20, 2006 at 10:00 am. Please come celebrate with us as we honor Janie and lay her body to rest. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made into the “Janie White Memorial Fund”, c/o First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 321, Lindale, TX 75771.

her high-school sweetheart, Marcus Henry Cheaney, and spent the first years of married
life accompanying Marcus to various duty stations with the Army Air Corps.
In 1946, after the war had ended, the two of them returned to Coleman where their two children, Diana and Don, were born. In September of 1955, the Cheaneys moved to San Angelo where Dorris Jean lovingly supported Marcus’ 30-year-long career with San Angelo National Bank. In 1986, they began their retirement life in San Angelo, surrounded by family and friends. During their nearly 60-year marriage, they offered a loving example of faith in God through their great love for one another and their joint commitment to serving others.
Although Marcus was, without question, the greatest joy of her life here, Dorris Jean greatly valued whatever time she could spend with any of her family or close friends. Anyone that ever needed help could depend on Dorris Jean’s tender-hearted compassion. She was a devoted homemaker who could often be found sending a note or card just to make someone feel special, creating a work with her own hands to give away, making a meal for someone in need, or baking a batch of oatmeal cookies to share with a group. Her sweet, gentle spirit will be missed by many.
