Robert Lance Thurber
Odessa - Robert Lance Thurber left this earth to be with his father in Heaven on April 13, 2006. He was born October 19th, 1969 in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
He has made the journey to the spirit world from whence he came, no more to be burdened from his earthly cares.
Lance was a very caring person and had a winning smile and warm personality. Strangers were very rare to him and he was blessed with many friends.
He was very active in his church during his youth and heavily involved in the Boy Scouts of America. He achieved the highest honor in scouting, the Eagle Scout Award.
Lance graduated from the University of Texas of the Permian Basin with Bachelors Degrees in History and Sociology and graduated with honors.
Lance had one Son, Logan, whom he loved dearly and always enjoyed their times together.
Lance taught elementary students at the third grade level at the Midland Charter School and was awarded Teacher of the Year Honors during his teaching tenure.
Lance was an avid fan of the University of Texas Longhorns and spent many an enjoyable time with his Dad, cheering them to victory. He will be sorely missed by all those who dearly loved him.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, April 17, 2006, at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 5401 JBS Pkwy. with Bishop Jim Stock, officiating.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapels and Crematory.
Mabel Dean Blanton
Odessa - Mabel Dean Blanton, 76, a long time resident of Odessa passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at Medical Center Hospital. She was born May 28, 1929 in Coleman County to Percy & Beulah Strickland. She was a homemaker and a member of AA for over 25 years.
She is preceded in death by her husband Stanford “Ed” Blanton.
She is survived by her son, S.E. Blanton & wife Carolann of Odessa, daughter, Margaret Ruff & husband Craig of Aledo, TX., brothers, Arch Strickland of Coleman County, Guinn Strickland of Ft. Worth, sister, Voncile Thomason of Coleman County, (3) grandchildren, Tammy Dugan, Kevin Ruff and Terri Lindley and (6) great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2006 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Carl Duralia Sr.
Odessa - Carl Duralia Sr. 64 of Odessa, passed away Wednesday March 1, 2006 at Hospice House. He was born January 1, 1942 in Chardon, Ohio to Michael J. Duralia and Zelma Rice. He married
Linda Butler King June 17, 1985 in Odessa. He was owner and operator of Wood “N” Stuff. Survivors: Linda Duralia of Odessa, Sons: Carl Duralia Jr and Michael Duralia, also step-son Wesley King, all of Odessa, Daughters: Chandra Woodward of Weatherford, Tx. Lorrie Evans of Baltimore, Maryland, and Stacy of Louisiana. 11 Grandchildren and 2 Great-Grandchildren and lots of woodworkiong friends. Carl was Owner and Operator of Wood “N” Stuff, Where he built and refinished furniture and other woodworks until his health declined. A graveside service has been set for 10 a.m. Friday March 3, 2006 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Reverend Jimmy Braswell officiating.

Harley ‘Ray’ McGuire
Kermit - Harley “Ray” McGuire, 65, longtime resident of Wink, went to be with the Lord on Monday, February 27, 2006. Ray was born on Friday, May 3, 1940 to the late Jack McGuire and Inez “Youngblood” McGuire in Lamesa, TX. Ray was an avid collector of guns and knives. He was also a hard worker. Ray worked as a ranch foreman and combine operator when he was younger and a contract pumper later in life. He understood the meaning of the seven-day workweek.
Ray is survived by his two sons: Mark McGuire and wife Susie of Wink, TX; Brian McGuire and wife Stacy of San Angelo, TX; one daughter: Denise Barton and husband Aaron of Fredericksburg, TX; seven grandchildren: Baylie, Nichole, Sawyer, Kaitlyn, Madison, Sydney, and Ayden.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Inez McGuire; one son: Wade McGuire; two brothers Earnest and Louis; two sisters Jackie and Sue.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 2:00 pm at Kermit cemetery.
Services were entrusted to Family Services Funeral Parlor of Kermit.
Josie Nunez Padron
Odessa - Josie Nunez Padron, 58, of Odessa passed away Tuesday, February 28, 2006 at the Hospice House. She was born March 19, 1947 in Big Spring to Ramon & Andrea Nunez. She married
Antonio Padron October 2, 1965 in Big Spring. She worked for Big Spring Independent School District from 1975 to 1981 and Town & Country from 1982 to 1984. She moved to Odessa in 1986 from Crane. She was a member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church.
She is survived by her husband Antonio Padron of Odessa daughters, Michelle Ybarra, Anna Hernandez both of Odessa and Angela Wolf of Midland, son, Michael Padron of Odessa, brother, Ramon Nunez of Big Spring, sister, Rosa Fuentes of Odessa, (10) grandchildren & (3) great-grandchildren.
A Rosary will be said 7:00 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2006 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Mass will be celebrated 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 3, 2006 at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with Father Frank Chavez officiating. Interment will follow at Rosehill cemetery.
We would like to send a thank you to all those who kept “Guela” in their prayers and never forgot to ask about her especially the last few months. She always said she could feel the prayers and it kept her going. We’d also like to send an extra thank you to the nursing staff of Best Home Health Care for their care and support. Also to Dr. Voesack for his great care along with the Lord’s Blessing we were blessed with more time.

Helen Jane Ward
Midland - Helen Jane Ward, 82, journeyed home to be with our Lord on Tuesday, February 28, 2006. Jane was born February 5, 1924 in McAllen, Texas to Roger and Sarinda de Steiguer. She grew up in Texas and Oklahoma and married
Carlton Ward in Wewoka, Oklahoma on November 22, 1941. She retired from the accounting department of Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, Oklahoma in 1980. She was also a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of the Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary
Jane is survived by her husband, Carlton Ward of Midland, two sons, Roger Ward of Klamath Falls, Oregon and Darrell Ward, his wife Arminae and sons Bradley and Brandon of Midland, Texas, one sister Sue Davis of Muskogee, Oklahoma and one brother, Don de Steiguer of Braggs, Oklahoma and numerous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by one son James Ray Ward, her parents Roger and Sarinda de Steiguer, and two brothers, Joe de Steiguer and Jerry de Steiguer.
The family will receive friends at Ellis Funeral Home, Thursday, March 2, 2006 between the hours of 6:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
Graveside services have been scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Saturday, March 4, 2006 at Okmulgee cemetery in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home, 801 Andrews Hwy., Midland, Texas 79701 (432) 683-5555.

Curtis Norris
Odessa - Reverend Curtis Norris was born June 30, 1924 in Lodi, TX to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Norris. He moved to Kellyville at the age of 5 and started school until the age of 10. For 1 year he attended Central High School in Jefferson, TX. Immediately after he graduated he went into the Navy from 11-11-1943 and was honorably discharged in 11-11-1946 where he was a Chief Steward Mate and a Barber. He was a gunner on gun # 24 on the ship. He was the only black gunner on the ship. He fought in WWII on the Pacific Ocean. He married
Annie Pearl Baldwin on October 2, 1947 and had 6 children and raised another two. Daughters, Annie Lee Mc Fall of Dallas, TX, Cynthia Anderson of Ft. Worth, TX, Makeda Norris of Minneapolis, MN, Diane Mason of California, Rudelya Porter of Athens, TX, Terri Norris of Odessa, TX, Ruby Dale Norris (whom preceded him in death), and Curtis D. Norris of San Luis Obispo, CA.
His proudest moments were barbering, preaching, pastoring and being a father. His proudest Civic accomplishments & involvements were, Active-President of Southside VFW, he fought for integration in schools and keeping Ector a High School which is now a Jr. High school, Active in Crucial. He has been given many religious, civic and civil awards in Texas and California where he preached and organized churches from 1965 to 1977 until he came back to Texas. He organized The House of Prayer Baptist Church and has been the Pastor up until his death. He was President/Secretary of The West Texas Baptist District Congress and Association.
His famous words “Kicking but not high, flopping but can’t fly.”
Viewing will be held today from 9am-10pm and Friday from 9am to 6pm at Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapels. A Memorial will be held Friday From 7pm to 9pm at The House of Prayer Baptist Church 1307 Broughton 333-6459 or 288-7086.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 4, 2006 at 10am at Greater St. John Baptist Church 212 Muskingum Odessa, TX. Burial will follow at Rosehill cemetery.
He is survived by his wife, Pearl Norris of Odessa, his children, 22 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, many adopted children, grandchildren, & God-children.
Services are entrusted to Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapels & Crematory.
Blanca Aragonez
Odessa - Blanca Aragonez 42 years of age passed away Tuesday February 13, 2006 in Odessa. She was born November 9, 1963 in Albuquerque, NM to parents Manuel Macias and Marcella Segovia Hernandez. She was a Christain and was a daycare teacher. Visitation will be held today at Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapels from 10 A.M. to 10.P.M. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 2:00 pm at Templo Alpha Omega with Pastor Sammy Ramirez officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemtery. She is survived by her spouse, Martin Aragonez, daughters, Daisy Aragonez of Houston and Jessica Gomez, son, Martin Aragonez Jr., Mother, Marcella Hernandez, father Manuel Hernandez all of Odessa, sisters, Maggie Lara and husband Reyes Lara of Odessa, Maria Guerra & husband Roland Guerra of San Angelo, Leticia Bejarano of Odessa, Velma Harris & husband James of Kentucky, Brothers, Victor Macias of Odessa, & Chiro Macia and Wife Criselda of Midland, 2 grandchildren, & numerous nieces,nephews, family & friends. Arrangements are under the direction of Martinez-Smith Funeral Chapels & Crematory.
Jerry Lynn Henderson
Odessa - Jerry Lynn Henderson, 62, of Odessa, passed away February 14th, 2006 at Rockwood Manor Nursing Facility in Midland, Texas.
Jerry was born November 26th, 1943 in Odessa, Texas to Jerry Cravens, and Pauline McCollum Cravens. Jerry married
Gerney Gairld Henderson October 22nd, 1958 and they were married
for 47 years. In addition to traveling the United States as her husbands work demanded and raising her family, she worked for the Odessa American for 35 years as a Contract Carrier for their circulation department and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints.
Mrs. Henderson is survived by her husband; Gerney Gairld Henderson, two sons; Walter Allen Henderson and Dean Edward Henderson and his wife Elizabeth all of Odessa; one daughter, Reha Sue Kinne of Houston, Texas; a brother, Paul Edward Cravens and wife Ann of Friendswood, Texas; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Services celebrating her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17th, 2006 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Dewey Blevins officiating. Interment will follow immediately at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home.
John Tracy Golliday
Stephenville - John Tracy Golliday, 36, of Crowley, died Monday, February 13, in Johnson County.
Funeral services are 11:00 AM, Thursday, February 16, at Stephenville Funeral Home in Stephenville with interment to follow at Gardens of Memory cemetery.
John was born February 24, 1969, in Stephenville to John & Cindy Walker Golliday. He married
Pam Miranda, October 8, 1999, in Irving. He was a truck driver, a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Burleson, and a resident of Crowley for the past 6 years.
Survivors include his wife, Pam; two sons, Garrett Wyatt Golliday of Crowley and Justin Trea Golliday of Midland; parents, John and Cindy Golliday of Big Lake; sister, Amber Golliday of Midland; grandmothers, Midge Golliday and Jo Ann Williamson both of Stephenville
Callie (Brooks) Bates
Granbury - Callie (Brooks) Bates, 88, of Granbury, a former owner and operator of Callie’s Public Scales in Odessa, died Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006, in Fort Worth.
Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury, Texas.
She was born in Westville, Okla.
Survivors Son, Larry Bates of South Carolina; daughters, Linda Bates of Granbury and G.J. Morgan of Tolar; brother, Benny Thomason of Bartlesville, Okla.; sisters, Lucille Oslin of Muskogee, Okla., and Utha Mae King of Odessa; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
