Doris Traylor

Odessa - Doris was born in Roswell, New Mexico, on December 20, 1922 to Eric and Allie Graves. She married Earl Traylor in the late 1930s and the couple moved to Deming, New Mexico to raise their three children, Sherry, Earleen and Vance. A transfer with Public Service Company took the family to Albuquerque in 1954. In 1970 Doris and Earl moved to a small ranch in Socorro County. In 1995 they relocated to Odessa to be near some of their children and grandchildren. Earl passed away on March 25, 2002 and Doris succumbed to mankind’s greatest enemy, death, on January 17, 2006.
A lifelong homemaker, Doris was born and grew to adulthood in an era that did not encourage career women. Higher education was also something that was not in the picture for a child of the Depression, but Doris was a person of deep intellect and a hunger for knowledge. She was a prodigious reader and instilled a love of learning in her children. In particular she wanted to understand why we are here, what our purpose in life is, and why mankind suffers. Her search for answers led her to an intensive study of the Bible, and in 1948 she dedicated her life to Jehovah God. Her delight from that time on was to share Bible knowledge with others. She was a skillful teacher and spent many hours in the personal Bible study program conducted by Jehovah’s Witnesses worldwide. She found a great deal of satisfaction in teaching her children and seeing them grow in faith. She was a zealous advocate of God’s kingdom under the rulership of Jesus Christ as the answer to mankind’s problems, and she shared her hope for the future with all who were searching as she had been.
Doris took great pleasure in her grandchildren, Drew, Elise, Cassie, Sherry Jo, Kasha, and Keena, and great-grandchildren, Jordan, Olivia and Dorian. She always encouraged her grandchildren to build a life of faith, to read the Bible and to serve God.
Doris came from a family of musicians and she enjoyed playing the piano until shortly before her death. She encouraged her children and grandchildren to develop a love for music, to participate in it and to treasure it as a gift from Jehovah. She took great pride in the accomplishments of her family, however small.
Doris had a firm faith that she would see her parents and the siblings who preceded her in death resurrected to life on earth as the Bible promises in John 5:28, 29. She trusted that Jehovah would fulfill his purpose to have the earth filled with righteous people, living eternally in security and perfect health. As she grew older Doris knew that she would in all likelihood not survive to see Jehovah restore paradise conditions to the earth. She trusted that she would be a recipient of God’s mercy and receive a resurrection. Her cherished hope was to see that time, to enjoy her family, to be able to develop her talents to their full potential and to share in teaching Bible truth to the millions, perhaps billions, who will be resurrected. Her family shares her faith and hope.
Memorial services are scheduled for Saturday, January 21st at 2 p.m. at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, West Loop 338 and 11th Street, in Odessa with Luther Whitlow officiating.
