Winnie Pearl Luttrell

Friends and family will gather to reminisce 76 years of Pearl's life from 6-8 p.m. this evening at Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. Celebration services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at the First Assembly of God Church with Pastor Tom Lakey and Terry Nesmith officiating. Committal services will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Lake Ridge Chapel and Memorial Designers. She died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Pearl was born July 4, 1932, in Southland to the late James L. and Mildred (Hodge) Smith. She married Ralph Luttrell on July 31, 1949, in Slaton. They moved to Lubbock in 1960. She was a wonderful homemaker and loved cooking, sewing and anything she could do with her hands. Pearl was a member of First Assembly of God Church.

Those left to cherish Pearl's memories are her husband of 59 years, Ralph; two daughters, Connie Fortenberry, and Pat Askew and husband James, all of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Christy Koinzan, Mandi Whitton and Scott Askew; five great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Joyce Powell, Avis Geer and Judy Moczygemba.

Memorials may be sent to the First Assembly of God Church Building Fund, 3801 98th Street, Lubbock, Texas, 79423.

James Lee Nichols

James Lee Nichols, recently a resident of Irving and formerly of Floydada and Breckenridge passed away Friday, Sept. 19, 2008. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Floydada with Dr. Floyd Bradley officiating. Interment will follow at the Floydada Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Monday at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home.

James was born June 12, 1922, in Floyd County. He was a longtime farmer in Floydada for over 30 years and was the owner/operator of Nichols Oil Co. in Floydada from 1973-1979. He previously worked in Floydada as a farm supply manager for Producers Co-op. James was also a member of the First Baptist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge in Floydada.

He was preceded in death by parents, Rufus and Inez Tidwell Nichols; and brothers, Claude Lee Nichols and C.C. "Dick" Nichols.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Lee Nichols of Irving; daughter, Nancy Campbell and husband Gary; son, Jimmy Nichols and wife Jan; daughter, Jackie Cockrell and husband Ken; son, Billy Nichols; daughter, Tammie Murry; son, Rick Nichols and wife Lisa; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one niece; and two nephews.

Memorial donations may be made to Floydada Senior Citizens.

Gus King

Gus "G.J." King, 96, of Lubbock died Sept. 20, 2008. Services will be11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2008, at Bacon Heights Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 5:30-7 p.m. today.

He was born on April 6, 1912, in Abilene to Gustavus Junis King and Ida Evelyn McDonald King. He graduated from Abilene High and worked as a wholesale grocer and volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Mr. King married Zelma "Viola" Hammett in 1930 in Anson. She preceded him in death in 1990.

Mr. King is survived by his daughter, Dianne and husband Sam Lytal; one niece; five nephews and many cousins. Memorials are suggested to Meals on Wheels or the Bacon Heights Baptist Church Building Fund.

Melvin Floyd Baker

Melvin Floyd "Snuffy" Baker was born March 29, 1918, in Thorndale. He was preceded in death by his mother, Theodosia Dean (Scott) Baker; father, David Clarence Baker; three sisters, Wilma Purtell, Vivian Rogers and Eileen Wooten; and his wife of 57 years, Vera Undean (Dunagan) Baker.

He is survived by two sons, Bayward C. Baker and wife Kay of Shallowater, and David C. Baker and wife Lavell of Lubbock; four grandchildren, Cynthia Farmer of Shallowater, David G. Baker of Lubbock, Bayward Floyd Baker of Lubbock, Jody L. Baker of Las Vegas, Nev.; six great-grandchildren and three foster great-grandchildren.

He graduated from New Home High School in 1935, where his class took extra subjects so New Home could get certifications. Mr. Baker was the last survivor of the class of 1935. He was share cropper and fencer in Lynn County, farming and fencing the T-Bar Ranch. He moved to Lubbock County in early 40s and went to work for Pendley Body Co., mounting school bus bodies on truck chassis. He also worked for Hobbs Trailers until his retirement as van/ body repair man. He loved fishing, flowers and dominoes.

Services for Melvin will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2008, at Oakwood Baptist Church. The family will receive friends today between 5:30-7 p.m.

Cynthia LaVerne Boswell

Cynthia LaVerne "Sug" Boswell, 66, of San Angelo went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 19, 2008 in San Angelo. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2008 at Johnson's Funeral Home. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2008 at Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

Cynthia was born April 30, 1942 in Longview to Ira Denmark and Ruth Capps Benson. She married Donald Wayne "Shorty" Boswell on March 7, 1959, and he was the "jewel" of her life for over 50 years. Sug was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She loved taking care of her family and she was the secretary at Boswell Concrete and Construction for many, many years. Cynthia liked to compete in the local area "Chili Cook-offs." She had a room in her home devoted only to her preparation of chili dishes which also displayed all of her ribbons. Cynthia was also known as the "Mayor of Adrian Street."

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Sandra Renee Boswell; one great-grandson, Ayden Clark "Baby Slim"; her sister, Sandra Marie Hutcheson; and two brothers, Walter Benson and Bobby Benson. She is survived by her loving family, husband Donald "Shorty" Boswell of San Angelo; two sons, Gary Boswell and wife (who was very special to Cynthia) Captain Rosa Boswell of San Angelo; Walter Boswell and wife Stacie of Canyon; her grandchildren, ReNee Clark and husband Jason of San Angelo; Gary Shane Boswell and wife Brittany of San Angelo; Alexis Boswell of San Angelo; Jason Boswell of Minnesota; Josh Boswell of Fort Worth; Jace Boswell, C.J. Boswell, and Jared Boswell, all of Canyon; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Glenn Benson and wife Carolyn of Lubbock; Alfred "Uncle Floyd" Benson and wife Sue of Lubbock; one sister, Wilma Berryman and husband Buddy of White Oak; numerous nieces and nephews, and other family members and friends.

Pallbearers for the service will be Gary Shane Boswell, Tony Hutcheson, Glenn Benson, Don Holly, Gene Benson, and Chris Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers for the service will be Alexis Boswell, Jason, Boswell, Josh Boswell, Jace Boswell, C.J. Boswell, Jared Boswell, and ReNee Clark.

Memorials may be made to Meals for the Elderly, The American Cancer Society, or a favorite charity.

Dusty Hull

HOBBS, N.M. (Special) Services for Dusty Lee Hull, 12, of Hobbs, N.M., will be held 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Gorton Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Prairie Haven Memorial Park under direction of Griffin Funeral Home.

He died Tuesday, August 10, 1999.

He was born April 11, 1987, in Seminole. He was a student at Sanaer Elementary School and enjoyed playing basketball.

Survivors include his parents, Travis and Paula Phillips of Hobbs; a sister, Paula Phillips of Hobbs; grandparents, Mary L. Hull of Hobbs, and George and Lee Luetie of Hobbs.

The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

Billy Hull

HOBBS, N.M. (Special) Services for Billy Don Hull, 35, of Hobbs, N.M., will be held 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. J. Gorton Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Prairie Haven Memorial Park under direction of Griffin Funeral Home.

He died Tuesday, August 10, 1999.

He was born Aug. 25, 1963, in Crosbyton. He graduated from Seminole High School in 1981. He married Carla Hull on Dec. 13, 1993, in Denver City.

Survivors include his wife; his mother, Mary L. Hull of Hobbs; a daughter, Misty Dawn Callahan of Hobbs; three brothers, Sonny Simmons of Hobbs, Johnny Simmons of Seminole and David Simmons of Carlsbad, N.M.; and a sister, Paula Phillips of Hobbs.

The body will be available for viewing at the funeral home from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

Kara Butcher

Kara Butcher, 38, of Amarillo passed away September 18, 2008. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, September 22, 2008 at St. Stephen United Methodist Church with Rich Jones, Associate Pastor officiating. Private burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia.

Kara Butcher was born in Lubbock, graduated from Monterey High and attended Texas Tech University. She married John, her soul mate in 2000. She nursed him back to health through a near death experience and raised her beloved six year old son, Tre with more love than many children receive in a lifetime.

Kara worked at Amarillo Country Club as the Membership Coordinator where she loved meeting and working with great friends. She will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, John Butcher, Jr. of Amarillo; one son, John "Tre" Butcher, III of Amarillo; parents, Bill and Myrl Gorey of Lubbock; three sisters, Patty West and husband Larry, Nancy McNeal and husband Wayne, and Margie Green, all of Lubbock; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Tre Butcher Scholarship Fund at any Wells Fargo Bank.

Jerry Lynn Franklin

Jerry Lynn Franklin of Midland and formerly of Shallowater passed away Monday, September 8, in his home.

He was born Feb. 18, 1954, to Jerita Ivie and Earl Franklin Jr., in Lubbock. He was raised in Idalou, and attended Idalou High School.

He worked as a freelance carpenter in Lubbock and Midland; and spent several years in the oilfields in the Levelland area. He is remembered by his family and friends for his sense of humor, infectious laughter, his spirit, love of jokes and love of family.

He was preceded in death by his nephew, Brian Barnes of Talala, Okla.

He leaves four sons, Justin and Tanner of Lubbock, Dane of Shallowater and Chad of Winnsboro. Jerry will be sorely missed by his family and friends, and is survived not only by his sons and parents, but by his brother, Paul of Lubbock; three sisters, Frankie Armstrong of Lubbock, Diane Dikeman of Talala, Okla., and Amy Connor of Weatherford; four grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many, many friends.
