Patsy Newsom
Services for Patsy (Todd) Newsom, 73, of Lubbock will be 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at Abell Funeral Home in Abernathy. Bill Starcher, Tommy Stell and Dan Vaughn will officiate. Burial will follow in the Abernathy Cemetery under the direction of Abell Funeral Home and Flower Shop of Abernathy.
Mrs. Newsom died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, in Lubbock.
She was born in Welch on Sept. 14, 1935, and was married to Glenn Newsom for 53 years.
Patsy was a member of the Lubbock Arboretum and Lubbock Garden Club. She served as former secretary/treasurer for the Lubbock Master Gardeners. Besides gardening she also loved to paint. Patsy was also a longtime member of the Broadway Church of Christ.
Survivors include her husband, Glenn; and a sister, Bonnie Todd of Lubbock; two daughters, Stephanie Mitchell of Austin and Sharon Vaughn of Mt. Aetna, Pa.; three grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
The Newsom family would like to offer a special thanks to the employees of Elmwood House, Rosa, Beth, Lisa and Trish for the loving care they had for Patsy.

Jewell Dooley
Jewell Dooley, 96, of Lubbock, entered the arms of her Savior on Monday, September 15.
Jewell was born on Aug. 2, 1912, in Bennington, Okla., to Garin J. and Elsie Lee Fuller. She married C.W. Dooley on Jan. 27, 1931, in Clovis, N.M. Mr. Dooley passed away in 1988.
Jewell had been a resident of Lubbock since 1933, and was a longtime member of Central Baptist Church, and was currently a member of Colonial Baptist Church. She was an avid gardener and homemaker. Jewell went to work at the age of 50, being employed at Dulaps for 24 years.
Jewell was preceded in death by a daughter, Laquita Miller; a sister, Ruby Nell Fuller; and her brothers, Jack, Woodrow, and John Paul Fuller.
Survivors include a daughter, Brenda and husband Butch Thompson of Lubbock; grandchildren, Jan Kennedy of New Market, Md., David Miller, of St. Peters, Mo., Mark Miller of Masonville, Colo., Scott Miller of Ft. Collins, Colo., Paige Melton of Dickenson, and Kari Thompson of Chicago, Ill.; great-grandchildren, Nathan Kennedy, Sarah Episcopo, Allison, Christopher, Molly, Erin, and Jade Miller, Brandon and Chandler Melton; great great-grandchildren, Daniel, Patrick, Elena, and Mary Kennedy.
Services for Jewell will be 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Resthaven.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Shirley Annette Cooper
Shirley Annette Cooper, 73, beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, peacefully departed this life on Sept. 15, 2008, after a long battle with diabetes. Shirley entered this world on Sept. 2, 1935, to George and Eva (Thacker) Pierce in Dickens. She was the youngest of four daughters. On Dec. 27, 1952, she married Bob Cooper in Spur.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 55 years, Bob Cooper; a son, Buddy and wife Sherry Cooper; two daughters, Delsey Vance and Missy Cooper, all of Lubbock; four grandchildren; two great-granddaughters and two sisters.
Visitation will be 1-2:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at Campbell Funeral Home in Spur. Services will follow at 3 p.m. at the Highway 70 Church of Christ. Robert L. Elliott
Robert L. (Bob) Elliott, 77, of Lubbock passed away Sept. 13, 2008. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, September 18, at Raintree Christian Church. The Reverend Charles Carmen and Reverend Brent McCall will be officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Bob was born Nov. 8, 1930, in Fort Worth to the late Lon and Margarite Elliott. Bob graduated from Riverside High School in Ft. Worth in 1948. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, being honorably discharged in 1954.
After his service to the Navy, Bob moved his family to Lubbock, where he worked many years in the auto body business. In 1985 he opened his own appraisal service.
Bob served as a deacon at Raintree Christian Church where he served his Lord faithfully.
Survivors include his wife, Priscilla; his children, Pam Gammill (Bill) of Italy, Larry Elliott (Susan) of Oregon, Terri Martin (Bill) of Kansas, Kathi Self (Daryl) of Texas, Beth Mazurek (Scott) of Lubbock, and Ricky Elliott; his 11 grandchildren; two great-grandsons; step-children, Tim Collins (Ava), Paula Clark (Russell) and Wesley Shira (Veronica), all of Lubbock; and four step-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, September 17 at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Memorials can be made to Raintree Christian Church.
Jesus H. Ibarra
Jesus H. Ibarra, 48, of Lubbock passed away Thursday, Sept. 11, 2008. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at Guajardo Funeral Chapels with Pastor Antonia Torres officiating.
Evening service will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at Guajardo Funeral Chapels. Burial will be at Peaceful Gardens Cemetery under the direction of Guajardo Funeral Chapels.
He was born on Jan. 10, 1960, in San Marcos to the late Armando Ibarra Sr. (1960) and Concepcion H. Ibarra. He married Diane Cavazos on 1988 in Lubbock.
Jesus was a great man. He graduated from Estacado high School in 1979 and was a supervisor at Texas Tech for 20 years; he was a life-long resident of Lubbock.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Diane Ibarra; sons, Baldomero and Angel Garcia; daughters, Jessica and Erika Ibarra, Princess Garcia, Rebecca Soto, all of Lubbock; his mother, Concepcion H. Ibarra; three brothers, Armando Ibarra, Alfredo and Francisco Garcia; three sisters, Estella Rodriguez, Diana Garcia and Joann Ortiz; and 12 grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Alfredo and Andrew Garcia, Armando Ibarra, Gabriel Cavazos, Angel Garcia, Isaiah Ortiz, Josh Dyer and Richard Cavazos, Jr.
Harold E. Cooper
Harold E. Cooper, 79, of Lubbock was born to Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Cooper on Oct. 10, 1928, in Paint Rock, and was raised in Levelland. He went to be with the Lord, his Savior on Monday, Sept. 15, 2008.
Harold married Freida English Cassity in Lubbock on Jan. 29, 1969. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the United States Army. He was a self-made man and entrepreneur. He owned Coopers Meat Market on West 19th for 12 years. He also owns Coopers Mobile Home Park in Wolfforth.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Wylie, Minor, Calvin and Carroll. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Cindy Meredith of Lubbock; two sons, David and Russell Cassity, both of Lubbock; a sister, Lucille Hennen of El Paso; a brother, Arnold Cooper of Lubbock; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter to-be, Makayla Lucille; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many friends.
Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Luis Gonzales, Sr.
Luis Gonzales, Sr., 81, went to be with our Lord on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Leonardo Gonzales and Concepcion Gonzales; and his sisters, Margarita Trevino and Rita Gonzales.
He is survived by his children, Lucy Arebalo (Frank) of Bedford, Marcos Gonzales of Pampa, Maria Saldana (Cesar) of Rio Hondo, Yolanda Solitaire (Jose Luis) of Laporte, Robert Gonzales (Velma) of Pampa, Luis Gonzales, Jr. of Pampa, Gracie Alaniz of La Feria, and Richard Gonzales of Snyder; 21 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be 2-9 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2008, at Funeraria Del Angel Chapel. Chapel service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at Funeraria Del Angel Chapel. Interment will follow at Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.

Opal Lillian Cox
Opal Lillian Cox, 102, of Lubbock and formerly of Carlsbad, N.M., passed away on the Lord's Day, Sunday, Sept. 14, 2008. She was born on Dec. 7, 1905, to Charley and Jessie Rogers in Belton, Ark. She married Henry Cox on April 20, 1928, in Lubbock. Together, they owned and operated South Y Feed Store in Carlsbad from 1952 until 1972 when Henry preceded her in death. In 1984, Opal moved back to Lubbock to be closer to her family and was a member of Monterey Church of Christ.
Opal is preceded in death by her children, Jerry Nell and Roger; brothers, Hank and Bill Rogers; sister, Sue Casstevens; and a granddaughter, Robin. Survivors include sisters, Dovie Massie of Pampa, Cecil Hollingsworth of Littlefield, and Naomi Fasching of San Diego, Calif.; grandchildren, Jean Causey and Robert Conder, Jr.; great-grandchildren, Amanda Rochelle, Clayton Homer, Ryan Sweat, and Robert Conder, III; and great great-grandchildren, Codie and Courtney Homer and Nina Causey.
Services will be 2 p.m. CST Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2008, at Monterey Church of Christ. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. MST Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008, at Sunset Gardens in Carlsbad. Arrangements are under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 7-8:30 p.m.
