Joyce E. Rachels
Joyce Elaine Odorizzi Rachels was born August 21, 1939 in Clayton, N.M. to F.C. and Orabelle Odorizzi. She passed away in Lubbock on October 9, 2008 after a lengthy illness.
She was raised in Lubbock and was a graduate of Lubbock High School. She was a longtime resident of San Antonio.
She was preceded in death by her father and a brother, Wesley Odorizzi.
Survivors include her mother, Orabelle Odorizzi Wharton of Lubbock; three brothers, Charles of Albuquerque, N.M., Wendell of Galveston, and Gary of Lubbock; and numerous nephews and nieces that Joyce cherished as her own.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008 at the City of Lubbock Cemetery with Rev. Louise Schock officiating.
There will be a visitation on Friday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. at Sanders Funeral Home.
Gernie S. Cooper
Funeral services for Gernie S. Cooper, 92, of Lubbock, formerly of Levelland will be 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008 at George Price Funeral Chapel in Levelland with Rev. Richard Rush, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church of Lubbock officiating. He died at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2008 at Carrillon House in Lubbock.
Born on October 28, 1915 in Van Buren County, Ark., he moved to Lubbock in 1992. He previously lived in Levelland from 1935 until 1975, when he moved to New Mexico and resided there until 1981 when he returned to Levelland. He married Josephine Macha in 1935 and she died in 1974. He later married Inez Hartsell in 1981 and she died in 1998. Mr. Cooper worked for AMOCO Production until his retirement. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Lubbock.
Survivors include his daughter, Brenda Joy Metze and husband Mike of Corsicana; his son, Ernie Lon Cooper of Hollis, N.H.; his sisters, Norma Walker of Houston; Mary Belle Brock of Bedford; and Ollie Faye Whitener of McKinney; his brothers, Kent Cooper of Levelland and Gordon Dale Cooper of Lubbock; his grandchildren, Christine Metze, Laura and Tom Roberts, and Roger and Penney Metze; his great-grandchildren, Megan Metze, Shelby Metze, and Kayla Metze.
Janice Marie Yett
Janice Marie Yett, 71, of Lubbock died Tuesday in Covenant medical center after a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be Saturday, October 11 at Mackenzie Terrace Baptist Church under the direction of Rix Funeral Directors. Her family will receive friends this evening at Rix Funeral Directors from 5 to 7 p.m.
Janice Marie was in born in New Bremen, N.Y. She graduated from Beaver River Central Schools in Beaver Falls, N.Y. She married Charles Weldon Yett on October 6, 1956 in New Bremen, N.Y.
Mrs. Yett is survived by her husband, Charles Weldon Yett; four sons, Michael and wife Bren of Charlotte, N.C.; Tim and wife Cindy; Bill; Doug and wife Robin, all of Lubbock; daughter, Brenda Foster and husband David, also of Lubbock; 12 grandchildren; and 13 brothers and sisters.
Her father, Leon Martin; mother, Arlene Louise Hirschey Martin Kieffer; and stepfather, Llewellyn Kieffer, preceded her in death.

Faye Idella Cook Ferguson
Faye Idella Cook Ferguson, 93, formerly of Lockney passed away Friday, September 26, 2008 in Waco. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008 at First Baptist Church of Lockney with Pastor Harold Abney officiating. Burial will follow at Lockney Cemetery under the direction of Moore-Rose Funeral Home.
Faye Idella Cook Ferguson was born to Harvey and Fannie Mae Cook in Hedley on September 20, 1915, the youngest of six children. She graduated from Lockney High School and from West Texas College in Canyon with a degree in home economics. On June 25, 1938 in Lockney, she married William Leslie Ferguson with whom she shared 62 years of marriage. They made their home in Lockney for the next 59 years where they farmed and raised two daughters.
Mrs. Ferguson was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lockney and was active in her community. Faye was a member of the Progresso Study Club and served as librarian at the church for many years. She did some substitute teaching, but the majority of her time was enjoyed as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved her family and was a great cook and seamstress.
Faye was preceded in death by her parents, Harvey and Fannie Mae Cook; husband, W. Leslie Ferguson; brothers, Syphel L., T. Norvel, Carlton R., and Ruel R. Cook; and sister, Evie Miller. Her husband, Leslie Ferguson died in 2000 after they moved to Waco.
She is survived by daughters, Debra and husband Alvin "Skip" Parrish of Redlands, Calif.; and Jonita and husband Charles Huffman of Waco; six grandchildren, Cherie Balzer and husband Henry of Redlands, Calif.; Celi Saroughian and husband Arthur of Glendale, Calif.; Carl Huffman of Houston; Ben Huffman of Ft. Worth; and four great-grandchildren, Alec Balzer, and Myla, Isaac, and Josiah Saroughian.
Marcile ''Cile'' Henry
Marcile Henry, 82, of Lubbock passed away October 7, 2008. A celebration of life service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 11 at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Pastor Bob Fagan officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Helen Marcile Henry was born January 11, 1926 in Hico to Belo and Eula (Stephens) Carroll. She and William Alton Henry were married on January 30, 1944 in Lubbock. Marcile became a Christian at the age of 13 and was baptized at the County Line Baptist Church. One of her favorite Bible verses was John 3:16, "For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
Marcile was a longtime member of Memorial Baptist Church.
Surviving relatives are her husband, Alton Henry of Lubbock; daughter, Sandra Boyd and husband Jimmy of Humble; son, Rex Henry and wife Barbara of Aubrey; grandchildren, Lisa Amyette and husband Mark; Jimmy A. Boyd and wife Kim; Amy Bennett and husband John; Steven Boyd and wife Stormy; Clint Esheberger and wife Christen; and twelve great-grandchildren. Marcile was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mildred Feazel; and a grandson, Paul Henry.

Howard Sheffield, Jr.
Howard Sheffield, Jr., 56, of Olton passed away Monday, October 6, 2008. He was born February 21, 1952 to Howard Sr. and Lorine Carey Sheffield in Olton. He met and married Alice Carter. He was a member of Bohner Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of Bobby Lawson. He leaves to mourn his wife, Alice Sheffield; one son, Kevin Carter Sheffield; one stepdaughter, Valencia Phillips (Donny); two brothers, Julius Sheffield (Carolyn) and Willie Sheffield (Mary Ann); two sisters, Nettie Harlin and Irene Springer; a host of other relatives and friends.
Service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Olton. Burial will follow at Olton Cemetery under the direction of Griffin Mortuary.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Griffin Mortuary.
Barbara Winn
Barbara Winn, 85, of Lubbock died Wednesday, October 8, 2008 in Lubbock.
She was predeceased in death by her parents, Dr. and Mrs. H. H. Bidwell, and her husband, Dudley Winn, Sr.
She is survived by three sons, Dudley, Jr., Christopher, and Reeves.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2008 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church with Rev. James P. Haney V officiating. A private burial was held Thursday at Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Sanders Funeral Home.
Josephine Renli
Memorial services for Josephine Renli, 90, of Lubbock will be 2 p.m. Friday Oct 10, 2008, in the Franklin-Bartley Funeral Chapel. Burial will take place in South Dakota at a later date.
Josephine was born in Alvo, Neb. She married Bennie Renli; he preceded her in death. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her sister, Mary Lou Moore of Lubbock; nieces and nephews.

Jo Elouise Daugherty
Jo Elouise Daugherty, 84, of Lubbock passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008. Funeral services are planned for 1 p.m. Friday, October 10 at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Pastor Vern Rhoads officiating. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home.
Jo Elouise Daugherty was born April 24, 1924, in Oklahoma to Joe and Lilly Smith and grew up in East Texas, where she met L.C. "Cap" Daugherty. They were married Dec. 2, 1944, in Cooper.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cap; and her brother, Robert Watkins.
Elouise was a wonderful cook, seamstress, and housewife.
Surviving relatives include sister-in-law, Molly Watkins; sisters, Nora Word, and Marie Tadlock; great-niece, Glenda Westbrook; nieces, Tina Bunch, Eva Knowles, Bobbie Turner; and nephews, Norman Ray House and Richard House.
