Ethellynn Zant

Ethellynn Zant departed this life on Oct. 6, 2008, at the age of 79 years, at her home in Wilson. She was born Nov. 14, 1928, to Ed and Hattie Gill in Dunn. Ethellynn married Dale Gene Zant Nov. 27, 1946, in Big Springs. They moved to the Wilson community in 1950. She graduated from Ackerly High School in 1946. Mrs. Zant was a member of New Home Church of Christ. Her entire life was dedicated to Jesus Christ and her family was always at the forefront of her life. She was a fantastic cook and homemaker constantly baking cakes and brownies. Her cakes and brownies always brought the highest bid at auctions for various school organization; Lions club; or hospital benefits. Ethellynn loved to sew and quilt and many new babies were adorned with a new handmade baby blanket or quilt.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband Dale; two sons, Leland Zant and wife Susan of New Home and Raymond Zant; two daughters, Karen Cook and husband Coy of Midland and Renea Ferguson of Follett; seven grandchildren, T'auna Ramsey and husband Brett of Eastland, Lanny Zant and wife Cindi of New Home, Shannon Zant and wife Crystal of Lubbock, Maranda Ribera and husband Rick of Marble Falls, Shane Zant and wife Ashlie of Plainview, Lora Ferguson of Portales, N.M., and Jenny Ferguson of Amarillo; nine great-grandchildren, Tristan, Cade and Zoe Ramsey; Karson and Reagyn Zant, Jaxxon and Maddox Zant and Averie and Kallie Zant; two sisters, June Zant and husband Dudley of Paris, Texas, and Mary Dean Cuthberson of Amarillo; brothers and sisters-in-law; nieces; nephews and many friends.

Mrs. Zant was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Juanita Irwin Matthews; and brothers Eddie Gill, Jr. and Dalton Gill.

Memorials may be made to the Lubbock Children's Home; Sunset International Bible Institute; Interim Hospice; or other favorite Charities.

The family will greet friends from 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, 2008, at the White Funeral Home in Tahoka.

Celebration of Life Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at the New Home Church of Christ in New Home with Victor Ellison, Rex Zant and Rick Zant officiating. Interment will follow in Green Memorial Park in Wilson.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Tahoka.

Ollie Mae Beck

Ollie Mae Beck, 91, of Lubbock, was born March 23, 1917, in Lamesa to Andrew and Mable Follis. On Sunday evening, October 5, "Mammaw" went to be with her Lord and her angels, in order to be sure that home is ready for her family that follow. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Lubbock where she had lived for the past 48 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Z. Beck; brothers, Jake, Tommie, Joe and A. J. Follis; five step-children; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great great-grandchild.

Those left to cherish her memory are her sons and daughters-in-law, Dwane and Teresa Beck of Longview, Ollie Beck and Thomas and Gloria Beck, all of Houston, James and Barbara Beck of Amarillo, and Robert and Karen Sanders of Chicago, Ill; daughters and sons-in-law, Xan and Aubry Jones of Lubbock, Janice Sabin of Longview, Cora Gann of Ore City, Billie Figgins of Phoenix, Ariz., Dorothy and Henry Bishop of Brownfield, and Maxine Butler of White Settlement; 35 grandchildren; 57 great-grandchildren; six great great-grandchildren; brothers, Johnny Follis of Colorado, Luther Follis of New Jersey, Sheridan Follis of Mesquite, and George Follis of Lubbock; and numerous other relatives and extended family.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Wilsons' Funeral Directors in Wolfforth. Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at the First Baptist Church in Lubbock with Bro. John Ballard officiating. Burial will follow in the City of Lubbock Cemetery under the care of Wilsons' Funeral Directors.

Memorial contributions may be made to LifeCare Hospice, 1809 Gilmer Rd., Longview, TX 75604.

Iris Louise David Mire

Iris Louise David Mire was born Nov. 1, 1926, near Abbeville, La., the only child of Dutile David and Madora Trahan David. She passed from this life on Oct. 4, 2008.

In 1945, Iris graduated from E. Broussard High School of Cow Island, Vermilion Parish, La. Iris enjoyed FFA and playing basketball in high school. She met her future husband at a basketball game. Following his return from serving in the United States Navy during World War II, Iris married Gabriel Robley Mire on Jan. 28, 1946. After making their home in Kaplan, La., for several years, they moved to Groves in 1954.

Mrs. Mire was a homemaker and mother to three children, Gaynell Marie, James Terry and Charles David. Mr. and Mrs. Mire moved to Lubbock in 2001 to be near Charles and his family.

Mrs. Mire is predeceased by her daughter, Gaynell; and her husband of 55 years, Robley.

Mrs. Mire is survived by two sons, Terry of San Marcos and Charles of Lubbock. She is also survived by six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Rix Funeral Home of Lubbock and Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan, La.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Oct. 8, 2008, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Kaplan, La. Interment will follow at Kaplan Catholic Cemetery in Kaplan.

Cruz "Junior" Ramirez

Cruz "Junior" Ramirez, 55, of Fort Worth and formerly of Lubbock passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, at Harris Methodist Hospital. He was born Aug. 24, 1953. He went home to be with his mother, Josie; sister, Rosalinda; and our Heavenly Father.

Junior is survived by his loving wife, Pam; one daughter, Crystal; two sons, Cruz and Tony; stepdaughter, Beth, father, Cruz; eight brothers, Nick, Julian, Angel, Ruben, Adam, Joe, Greg, and Joe-Joe; six sisters Dominga, Emma, Mary Veronica, Sandra, and Rosa and all of their spouses; four grandchildren, Jaden, Ashton, Katelyn, and Maddison; dearest friends, Bobby and Willy; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, many more loved ones and friends.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at Peaceful Garden Cemetery in Woodrow. Viewing will be from 4-8p.m. today at Griffin Mortuary.

Berta Q. Moreno

Berta Q. Moreno of Lubbock departed this life on Oct. 7, 2008, at the age of 84 years. Visitation will be 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, at White Memorial Chapel in Lubbock. Celebration of Life Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Templo Bautista in Lubbock with Pastor Salvador Trevino officiating. Interment will follow at the City of Lubbock Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the personal care of White Funeral Home of Lubbock.

Ann Vaughan

Memorial services for Ann Vaughan, 53, Lubbock, will be held privately by family and friends. Ann passed away on Monday, October 6.

She was born on Nov. 9, 1953, in Roswell, N.M., to Arthur Hugh and Inez Page Vaughan. She attended Lubbock Schools.

Survivors include a sister, Linda and husband Wes Rowntree of Lubbock; one niece and one nephew.

The family suggests memorials to the Children's Home of Lubbock.

William "Bill" Tippy

Celebration of life services for William "Bill" Tippy, 40, of Artesia, N.M. will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Resthaven Memorial Park. A visitation will be 7-8 p.m. Thursday at Resthaven Funeral Home. Bill passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2008, in Lubbock.

William "Bill" Kelcey Tippy was born June 2, 1968, in Danville, Ark., to Adrian and Tommie Tippy. Bill married Melonie Ellis on Aug. 21, 1992 in Canadian. He served in the United States Marines during the Gulf War.

Bill was "The Best Husband and Father in the World". Those left to cherish Bill's memory are his wife, Melonie; children, Justin, Randy, Kayla and Christin; mother, Tommie Cannon; sister, Teresa Craft; and brothers, Robert and James Tippy.

Wilbert A. Wuensche

Services for Wilbert A. Wuensche, 86, of Slaton and formerly of Wilson will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, 2008, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Rev. David Rohde officiating. Interment will follow in Wilsons Green Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton.

Mr. Wuensche was born Dec. 24, 1921, in Thorndale. Wilbert died in his home Monday, Oct. 6, 2008.

He moved to the Wilson area in 1923 with his family. He attended St. Paul Parochial School in Wilson. Wilbert married Lorena Sophia Kaatz on April 29, 1941, at St. Paul Lutheran Church. In 1942 Wilbert entered the U. S. Army Air Corp where he served until 1945.

He returned home and continued farming, retiring in 1985. They moved to Slaton in November of 2006.Wilbert was a member of St. Paul's, serving on various boards and a Elder of his church. He also served on the Wilson Coop Gin Board.

Wilbert's survivors include his wife, Lorena of the home; five daughters, Geneva and husband Arlis Ehlers of Slaton, Barbara and husband Ray Ehlers, Katy and husband Oliver Thompson, all of Lubbock, Marilyn and husband Tom Bowers of Austin, Elna and husband Lenro Brieger of Wilson; one son, James and wife Janet Wuensche of Wilson; a brother, Elmer Lee Wuensche of Chicago, Ill.; 17 grandchildren, and 42 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Hulda Wuensche; two brothers, Herman and Arthur, and two great-grandsons.

The family requests memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church of Wilson or Hospice of Lubbock.

Visitation will be 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday at Englunds Funeral Service.

Fay Nell Hill

Fay Nell Hill, 89, was born in Snyder on Feb. 9, 1919, and passed to her Lord and Savior on Oct. 5, 2008. She had seven brothers and four sisters. Fay Nell was a lifelong and devoted member of the Church of Christ.

During the height of the Great Depression, she and her husband, Walter White, moved to Richmond, Calif. She lived in California for the next 65 years. She taught her self to sew, and became a gifted seamstress who expertly designed and made her family's clothing and worked at fashionable dress shops.

Fay Nell a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother that will be missed by all of her family and friends, including the staff and many friends at Garrison Care Center in Lubbock, where she spent her last six years.

Two daughters survive Fay Nell: Janette Koen of Lubbock, and Dian Samuelson of Montgomery, Ala. She is also survived by Floyd Koen, Jr., her son-in-law, and six grandchildren, Kenneth Koen, Keith Koen, Karl Koen, Eileen Simoneau. Her great-grandson, Kyle Koen preceded her in death. She has two surviving brothers and one surviving sister, Edgar Davis of Odessa; Edwin Davis of Paradise, Calif.; and Emma Jean Choate of Odessa. There are also numerous surviving nieces and nephews.

Fay Nell will be available for viewing from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. today at Rix Funeral Directors on Broadway.

Graveside services will be at Rolling Hills Cemetery in the San Pablo, Calif., where she will be interred next to her second husband, Fred S. Hill.

Iris Louise Mire

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Roman Catholic Church honoring the life of Iris Louise Mire, 81, who died Saturday, Oct. 4, 2008.

She will be laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home, Kaplan, 300 N. Eleazar Avenue, on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008, from 12-10 p.m.; Tuesday, October 7, from 8 a.m.-10 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.; and Wednesday, October 8, from 8 a.m. until the procession departs for the church.

All funeral arrangements are being conducted by Vincent Funeral Home of Kaplan.
