MONAHANS -- Cheryl Jane Akins, 38, of Monahans, a homemaker, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Southside Baptist Church with the Revs. William Hatler, Morris Johnson and Robert Mitchell officiating. Burial will be at Monahans Memorial cemetery. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home.
She was born in Kermit and was Baptist.

ODESSA -- Joseph I. Johnson, 81, of Odessa, a retired electrical engineer and former Ector County commissioner, died Wednesday, Oct. 14, 1998 at Odessa Regional Hospital.
Services are at 10 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Baptist Church. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in Cullman County, Ala. He was a veteran of the Army, Navy and Air Force reserve.

STEPHENVILLE -- Lowell "Popeye" Sparks, 80, of Lingleville died Thursday, Oct. 15, 1998, at his residence.

He was born in Bunyan and had been a resident of Odessa from 1952 until 1973. He was an U. S. Army veteran of WWII. He was Baptist.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Ellis Funeral Home Chapel in Midland with the Rev. Jimmy Taliaferro officiating. Graveside services will be held in Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
He was born in Montague and had been a resident of Denver City since 1971. He had lived in Odessa in the 1950s. He was veteran of the Army Air Corps in World War II.
