Louise Gillis
DENVER CITY -- Louise Gillis, 75, of Denver City, a retired employee of Yoakum County State Bank and a homemaker, died Wednesday, July 1, 1998, at Canterbury Villa.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Bill Merritt and Bob Webb officiating. Burial will be at Denver City Memorial Park. Arrangements by Boyer Funeral Home.
She was born in Belton and moved to Denver City in 1952 after moving from Levelland. She was Baptist.
Survivors: Husband, C.R. Gillis of Denver City; sons, Charles R. Gillis Jr. of Azel, Arthur L. Gillis of Odessa, David L. Gillis of San Angelo and Greg D. Gillis of Florince; sisters, Jimmie Rosser of Victoria, Mildred Koster of Waco; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Maela Harris
PORTSMOUTH, Va. -- Malea Dawn Harris, 29, of Odessa died Monday June 29, 1998, in a Norfolk, Va., hospital after a lengthy illness.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Sturtevant Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Gary Lee Linville officiating. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Sturtevant-Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel.
She was born in Sterling City, Ill. She was a member of the Pentecostal church.
Survivors: Husband, Michael Whitehead of Odessa; sons, Randy D. Whitehead and Tyler J. Whitehead, both of Odessa; sisters, Melissa A. Lewis and Terri D. Edds, both of Portsmouth, Va., and Theresa L. Mills of Cathedral City, Calif.; brother, James E. Harris of Tupelo, Miss.

David Smith
SEMINOLE -- David "Eddie" Smith, 86, of Seminole, a retired truck driver, restaurant cook and owner, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Roger Pool Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ernest Wall officiating. Burial will be at Gaines County cemetery. Arrangements by Roger Pool Funeral Home.
He was born in Silverton. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Baptist.
Survivors: Sons, Roy David Smith of New Mexico and Clifford Earl Mullins of Roswell, N.M.; daughters, Marie Thomas of Hobbs, N.M., Reba Smith of Denver, Colo., and Rhonda Sand of Imperial, Penn.; sister, Bertha Dolberry of Colorado City; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Jose Guzman
ODESSA -- Jose Angel Guzman, 51, of Odessa, a backhoe operator for Williams Paving, died Monday, July 6, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital.
Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. Luis Cepeda officiating. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.
He was born in Matamoros, Mexico, and had lived in Odessa for four years. He was Catholic.
Survivors: Wife, Alicia Guzman of Odessa; father, Jose Guzman of Monterey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico; mother, Maria De La Luz Arriaga of Monterey, Nuevo Leon; son, Jose Angel Guzman Jr. of Monterey, Nuevo Leon; daughters, Nancy Margarita Martinez Guzman and Blanca Eva Martinez Guzman, both of Monterey, Nuevo Leon; brothers, Juan Guzman of Monterey, Nuevo Leon, Fernando Guzman of Monterey, Nuevo Leon, Leonardo Guzman of El Paso, Aaron Guzman and Artemio Guzman, both of Monterey, Nuevo Leon, Guadalupe Guzman of Ciudad Juarez, Mexico; sisters, Aurora Guzman of Puerto Rico, Blanca Guzman and Maria M. Martinez, both of El Paso; and five grandchildren.

Roland Johnson
PECOS -- Roland Harry Johnson, 51, of Pecos, died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at the V.A. Hospital in Big Spring.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Fairview cemetery with the Rev. Bill Foster officiating. Arrangements by Pecos Funeral Home.
He was born in Miami and had lived in Pecos since 1958. He was an Army veteran.
Survivors: Brother, Chuck C. Mount of Pecos.

Garvin Passmore
PECOS -- Garvin Passmore Jr., 75, of Pecos, a farmer, died Sunday, July 5, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount Evergreen cemetery with the Rev. Bruce Abbott officiating. Arrangements by Pecos Funeral Home.
He was born in Birden, N.M., and had lived in Pecos since 1947. He was an Air Force veteran.
Survivors: Sons, John Passmore of Venezuela, James Passmore of El Paso; daughter, Stephanie Passmore of Pecos; brother, Tom Passmore of Midland; and eight grandchildren.

Roberta Drake
MONAHANS -- Roberta Drake, 59, of Monahans, a homemaker, died Wednesday, July 8, 1998, at Midland Memorial Hospital.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Harkey Funeral Chapel in Monahans with the Rev. Rob Porterfield officiating. Burial will be at Monahans Memorial cemetery. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home.
She was born in Snyder.
Survivors: Husband, C.A. Drake of Monahans; sons, George Drake of Corsacana, Harold Rose of Odessa, Stephen Drake of Monahans; daughters, Lilieus Scott of Lockney, Rosa Carter of Monahans and Linda Farmer of Graham; brothers, Chester Milson of Burnett and Howard Milson of Midland; sisters, Nadine Henshaw and Cherry Buck, both of Brady; 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Lilibeth Garcia
ODESSA -- Lilibeth Garcia, 5 months, of Odessa, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998, at her residence.
Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. today at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Deacon Barney Rodriquez officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.
She was born in Odessa.
Survivors: Father, Jaime Garcia of Odessa; mother, Maria Garcia of Odessa; brother, Jaime Garcia, Jr. of Odessa; sister, Abigal Garcia of Odessa; and grandparents, Saul and Gloria Benavides, both of Chihuahua, Mexico, Juan S. and Paula Garcia of Odessa.

Frank Slaughter
ODESSA -- Frank "Pop" Slaughter, 89, of Odessa, a self-employed welder, died Monday, July 6, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with the Rev. Jack Watkins officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
He was born in Kaufman County and moved to Ector County in 1937. He was a Baptist.
Survivors: Son, Ron Slaughter of Odessa; daughters, Joyce Griffin, Anita Simpson and Janice Golden, both of Odessa; brother, Herman Slaughter of Kermit; sisters, Estelle Johnson of Odessa, Pat Batchelor of Cayuca; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Preston Grissom
ANDREWS -- Preston S. Grissom, 72, of Andrews, owner of Grissom Brothers Oil Company, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at his residence.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Means Memorial United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim Terry officiating. Burial will be at Andrews Old cemetery. Arrangements by McNett Funeral Home.
He was born in Follett and moved to Andrews in 1951 from Abilene. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a Methodist.
Survivors: Wife, Gloria Grissom of Andrews; sons, Preston D. Grissom and Mark K. Grissom, both of Andrews; and five grandchildren.

Joseph Martin
MOLINO, Tenn. -- Joseph C. Martin, 66, former Odessa resident, retired cook, died May 27, 1998, at Southland Villa Nursing Home in Temple.
Graveside services were held May 29, 1998, at Lebamon cemetery near Molino with Carroll Hickman officiating. Arrangements by Higgins Funeral Home.
He was born in Fayatteville. He was an Army veteran. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors: Sisters, Susan Thompson of Mulberry, Tenn., and Kay Carter of Sheridan, Wyo.

Faye Strickland
ODESSA -- Faye Strickland, 77, of Odessa, former owner of State Cleaners, died Thursday, July 9, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Westwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Weeks Dubose officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
She was born in Glendale, Ariz., and moved to Odessa in 1955 from Snyder. She was a Baptist.
Survivors: Daughters, Donna Farley of Snyder, Sandra Hinesly of Odessa; five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
