Jay Gilbert
BATSON — A celebration of Life honoring Jay Gilbert, 18, was held on Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, in Batson.
Jay died at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital on Sept. 22, 1999, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Jay was born on Sept. 10, 1981, in Odessa. He moved to Batson and while attending West Hardin High School, he was treasurer of the Student Council, Vice President of the Junior Class, voted Most Spirited of the student body, Drum Corps leader and Marching Instructor for the percussion section.
Among Jay’s many accomplishments, he was most proud of his composition he titled "6 O’clock Cadence" which he wrote and was published by the Band Dept. Jay received three Best Actor awards in UIL competition for his performance in the comedy "Noises Off."
Jay is survived by his mother, best friend and greatest fan, Linda Gail Pollard Thayer and her husband, Gene, of Batson; his dad, Darrell and wife, Vicki Gilbert, of Weatherford; and Steven Shannon of LaPorte.
His sisters, Marcie Brown and husband Mark of Midland; Susan Martin of San Diego and Lori and husband, Jason Williams, of Nederland; and Danielle and Jennifer Gilbert of Weatherford. His nephew, Shayne Brown; and niece, Macie Williams.
His grandparents, Bill and Barbara Pollard and Dalton and Berta Gilbert.
Jay’s aunts, uncles and cousins will forever treasure his memory, they are Theresa and Mark Reed, Judy Rodgers, David Pollard, Darla and Roger Becker, Mike Terrell, Dana Gilbert, Brian Pollard, Heather Balzer, Alexis Reed, Kim Boughan, Tori Rodgers, Courtney Rodgers, Brett, Barron, and Bailey Becker.
Kathy Mahan
ODESSA — Kathy Mahan, 54, of Odessa passed away Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999.
Kathy was born Feb. 7, 1945, in Odessa and had been a longtime resident. She worked in the Ector County District Attorney’s Office as a legal secretary for five years.
She was a member of the American Legion and worked as a volunteer for the Shriners. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Keyes and Beth Robel.
She is survived by two sons, Todd Mahan and his wife, Leah, of Odessa and Wade Mahan of Odessa; one daughter, Kelly Mahan Gallagher and her husband, Donnie, of College Station; her stepfather, Jim Robel of Frisco; one stepbrother, Greg Robel of Frisco; one stepsister, Sandra Hall of Justin; two grandchildren, Dane and Mason Mahan of Odessa; and her companion, Jerry Washburn of Odessa.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, 1999, at Todd Mahan’s home, 2605 Custer Ave.
Memorial Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 1999, in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Johnny Dickerson officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Brashears, Fred Williams, Carl Crowder, Lindel Dempsey, Ken Hill, Joe Mac Sanders and Johnny Hubbard.

Russell Riddle
ODESSA — Graveside services for Russell Leroy Riddle, 86, of Odessa will be 2 p.m. Saturday in Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Norman Owens officiating. He died Tuesday, Dec. 22, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
He was born Oct. 1, 1912, in Coleman County. He moved to Odessa in 1939 from Hobbs, N.M., and worked in the oilfield until 1941. He was on the Air Force Fire Department at the Air Terminal. Later, he was a mechanic at B.F. Walker and a head mechanic at French Tool and Supply. He also worked as a truck driver with Thompson & Carr Trucking and A.W. Thompson and Santa Fe Trucking. He retired in 1983. He was divorced from his first wife, Matria Pinkston Riddle. He married
Elba L. "Mickey" Dillard on Oct. 30, 1954. She passed away in 1996.
Survivors include: Daughters, Laquitta Webber of Owasso, Okla., and Anna Marie Bowden of Odessa; brothers, Robert Riddle of Bay City, Eugene Riddle of Damascus, Ark., and Charles H. Riddle Jr. of Bellaire; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Michael Hopper
ODESSA — Services for Michael Wayne "Mike" Hopper, 49, of Fort Stockton, are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Crescent Park Baptist Church in Odessa with the Revs. Barry Owens and Amon Langston officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Mr. Hopper died Wednesday, Dec. 23, 1998, at Medical Center Hospital in Odessa.
He was born April 12, 1949, in Lubbock and moved to Odessa in 1961. He retired from the Army in 1992 after serving for 20 years, and had worked for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice Lynaugh Unit for 3˝ years. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his mother, Frances Hopper of Odessa; sons, Michael Charles Hopper of Stevens Point, Wis., Brian James Hopper of Fennimore, Wis., and Bruce Hopper of Fort Stockton; sisters, Beth Blount and husband, Tommy Jr., of Kingsland, Judy Crawford and husband, Joe, of Crane; great-aunt, Edna Newton of Idalou; nieces and nephews, Susan Crawford, Josh Crawford, Kimberley Reed, Deidra Heflin; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, George W. Hopper and a daughter, Georgia Ann Hopper.

Russell Glover
ODESSA — Russell "Rusty" Carl Glover, our beloved son, father, grandpa, brother and friend, will be spending Christmas and his 45th birthday with the Lord this year. Rusty died peacefully at his home in Odessa on Dec. 23, 1998. Funeral services for Rusty, 44, will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 26, 1998, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. Wayne Ziegler officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Rusty, whose 45th birthday would have been Dec. 24, will be so truly missed. Your bubbly spirit and cheerful face were always such a joy. For those who knew you know you never complained, you would give the shirt off your back and you always had unconditional love for all those around you. Your passion for birds reflected your free spirit and your love of "the river" showed your free-flowing love of life.
Rusty is preceded in death by his father, B.E. "Pete" Glover and by his grandparents.
Survivors include his mother, Norma Jean Rogers and stepfather, John Rogers; two daughters, Christy Ann Glover and Amy Rochelle Garcia; one grandson, Casey Tanner Garcia; four brothers, Rickey Glover, Jimbo "Jimmy" Glover, Billy Jack Glover and Max Glover; one sister, Barbara "Sissy" Glover; two stepsisters, Lisa Labar and husband George Labar, and Michelle Torres and husband Paul Torres; one stepbrother, David Morrow and wife Diane; 12 nieces and nephews; seven great-nieces and great-nephews; and companion and friend, Holly Sorrells.

J.N. Johnson
HILLSBORO — J.N. (Johnny) Johnson, 84, of Hillsboro, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998, in a local nursing home. Born Feb. 19, 1941, in a rural area near Paris, Texas, he was the son of Riley R. and Arminta (Lollar) Johnson. He attended Perry school and played sports and graduated from Honey Grove High School. He married
Estes Meade Oct. 14, 1933. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Co. for more than 30 years. Following his retirement, he moved to Hillsboro in 1974, and later secured his real estate license. Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Estes Meade Johnson on March 28, 1998; one son, Jimmy Don Johnson; two brothers, Holly Johnson and Cleo Johnson; and two sisters, Stella Taylor and Eva Dell Clark.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. John and Diane Johnson of Whitney; one sister, Lorna Cox of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one grandson, John Christopher Johnson of Portland, Ore.; one granddaughter, Stacey Kathleen Barrett of Longview; two great-grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Charles H. "Pug" and Helen Gabrel.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 24, at 11 a.m. at Edens Funeral Home Chapel in Hillsboro with the Rev. Dean Coultas officiating. Entombment followed at Hillcrest Garden of Memory near Hillsboro.
Pallbearers were: Charles "Pug" Gabrel, Randal Gabrel, Jack Meade, Johnny Meade, Joe Meade, Dennis Carver, Doyle Carver, Danny Carver, Andrew Beyer and Benjamin Beyer.
Memorials may be made to the America Heart Association.
Beth Boadle
STANTON — Beth Boadle, 71, of Odessa, died Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at her residence.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Evergreen cemetery with the Rev. J.R. Williams of Rule officiating. Services will be under the direction of Gilbreath Funeral Home of Stanton.
She was born on May 11, 1928, in Vernon and married
Joe Robert Boadle Jr. on Oct. 15, 1949, in Coahoma.
She had lived in the Stanton, Big Spring and Odessa area since 1953.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Murphy and Estelle Gore; two nieces; a nephew; and a sister-in-law, Mildred Gore.
Survivors include her husband, Joe Robert Boadle Jr. of Odessa; three daughters and their husbands, Janie and Jim Pope of Big Spring, Debra and Steven Meador and Murfi Boadle, all of Odessa; a son, Joe Robert Boadle III of Houston; a sister, Jeffie Phinney of Big Spring; two brothers, J.M. Gore Jr. of Jacksboro and Henry Gore of Wichita Falls; mother-in-law, Ada Boadle of Big Spring; brother-in-law, Charles Boadle of Odessa; sisters-in-law, Doris Hollandsworth of Big Spring and Betty Bayles of Florida; three grandchildren, Robert Brown of Odessa, Christa Beth Brown of Big Spring and Courtney Meador of Odessa; six nephews and seven nieces; friends, Carla Raines of Wichita Falls, Helen Eakin of Electra, Billy Mack Brown of Odessa and Tim Wooddell of Houston; and a special friend, Ruth Hazlewood of Stanton.
Margaret T. "Dugan" Teague
ODESSA — Margaret T. "Dugan" Teague, 83, of Odessa, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, in Bedford.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Philip McLarty officiating.
She was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Paducah. She married
King Ramsey May 2, 1938, in Galveston. He died Sept. 27, 1974. She married
Henry J. Teague Dec. 11, 1982, in Odessa. He died July 30, 1999.
Mrs. Teague had lived in Odessa for over 50 years. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Howle and her husband, Charley of Bedford; stepdaughter, Phyllis Stewart of Midland; stepson, Bill Teague and wife, Byrd, of Dallas; sister, Bennie Jane Taylor of Paducah; two grandchildren, Carla Waychoff and Craig Howle; stepgrandchild, Dodie Stewart; and three great-grandchildren, Ashley Waychoff, Emily Waychoff and Stratton Shaftstall.
