Chester Hugh Derrick
BRONTE — Chester Hugh Derrick, 78, of Orient, died Nov. 2, 1999, at the North Runnels Rehab and Nursing Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at the First Baptist Church of Bronte. Burial will follow in the Mule Creek cemetery. Services are under direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
Chester was born on Sept. 6, 1921, to Clarence and Olive Sayner Derrick in Tennyson. He was raised in Tennyson and began his police career in Ballinger, Sept. 1, 1954. Moving on to work on the Monahans Police Department, the Andrews Police Department and to the Odessa Sheriff’s Office in 1960, where he retired in 1986. After retiring, he moved to Orient, where he worked as a stock farmer.
Chester won many awards and contests as a Championship Fiddler. He was a member of the United Fiddlers Association and the Tennyson Baptist Church.
He is preceded in death by one son, Carl, and five nieces and one nephew.
Chester is survived by his wife, Myrtice of Tennyson; one son, Chester C. Derrick of Grape Creek; two daughters, Shirley Honea of Orient and Wilma Lambert of Odessa; one sister, Irene Denton of San Angelo; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and cousins.
Josie L. Garcia
ODESSA — Josie L. Garcia was born March 14, 1947, in Artesia, N.M., to Ramon and Jesse Lopez. She passed away Nov. 2, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
Ms. Garcia was a homemaker and enjoyed spending time with her children, playing with her grandchildren, reading, listening to music and giving to others.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother.

Claude L. Dauster
SAN ANTONIO — Claude L. Dauster died in San Antonio Sunday, Oct. 31, 1999, after a lengthy illness. He was born Jan. 27, 1922, to Claude L. Dauster Sr. and Ina Dauster in Humboldt, Kan.
He married
Ruth Grimes on May 26, 1948, who preceded him in death in July.
He was retired as an auditor for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission and was also a longtime professional trumpet player. He was a veteran of World War II as a fighter and reconnaissance pilot.
He is survived by his mother, Ina Dauster; his sister and her husband, Dorothy and Raymond Nance of Abilene.
He is also survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Molly Dauster of Lubbock; a daughter and son-in-law, Christi and Bob HensIey of San Antonio; and three granddaughters, Sukie Dauster, and Sarah and Katelyn Hensley.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Porter Loring Mortuary North, 2102 N. Loop 1604 East, San Antonio, Texas, 78232.
Yesenia S. Lira
ODESSA — Yesenia S. Lira, 20, of Odessa, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Houston.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. today at Rose Hill cemetery.
She was born Feb. 15, 1979, in Odessa and was a lifelong resident. She was a Baptist and a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Fabian Lira Sr. of Odessa; son, Fabian Esiquio Lira Jr.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Israel D. Salazar and Maria Salazar, all of Odessa; brother, Israel L. Jose Salazar of Odessa; sisters, Elizabeth S. Levario and Josie Mendoza, both of Odessa; grandparents, Maria Urias and Josefina Salazar, both of Odessa.
Ruby Vianna Allen
MCCAMEY — Ruby Vianna Allen, 83, formerly of Odessa, died Nov. 4, 1999, at Care Inn Nursing Home in Llano. She was born April 7, 1916, in Loving, N.M.
Mrs. Allen moved to Odessa from California in the early 80’s. She was a homemaker and a Baptist. She is preceded in death by two husbands, K.E. Wilson and Joe Allen.
She is survived by her nieces, Joy Benton of Pearland, Sue Smith of Brownfield, Nancy McCabe, Mozelle Hall and Annette Alexander, all of Tow, Barbara Hendrix of Hope, N.M., Marcie Phillips and Nadine McCubbin, both of Andrews.
Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Resthaven cemetery with the Rev. Bryan Crittendon officiating.

Larry Allen Bailey
ODESSA — Larry Allen Bailey was born Nov. 8, 1950, in Big Spring to Jack and Patsy Bailey. He passed away at his home in Mesquite Nov. 2, 1999.
Graveside services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Johnny Dickerson and the Rev. Barry Owen of Crescent Park Baptist Church officiating. Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Mr. Bailey grew up in Odessa and graduated in 1969 from Odessa High School. He graduated from North Texas State University in 1973 and later received his master’s degree from Pan Am University in Edinburg. He taught in Roma for 13 years and had moved recently to Mesquite where he taught at the A.C. New Middle School. He was a former president of the Classical Guitar Association, a member of various education organizations, a DeMolay and was a member of the Methodist Church.
Mr. Bailey enjoyed playing the guitar and would frequently play at various nursing homes in McAllen.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Steve Bailey, and stepfather, A.P. Brown.
Survivors include his mother, Patsy R. Brown of Odessa; his sisters and their husbands, Brenda and Dell Rasmussen and Mary Ann and Steve Culberson, all of Odessa; his aunt, Rosemary Hardin of Midland; nephews, Cory Rasmussen, Tye and Trey Culberson; cousins, Lisa Buss, Randy Hardin, Earl Buss, Alisha Buss, Colby Buss, Kay Hardin, Kendal and Aubrey.

Janet A.R. Horn
ODESSA – Janet A.R. Horn, 96, passed away Nov. 2, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital.
Jan was predeceased by her husband, Andrew, a petroleum engineer, in 1978.
Jan had been on the executive boards of many Odessan societies and had an active interest in the Globe Theater. She was honored by being Odessa’s First Lady in 1974. The Horns were both born in Scotland and spent many years in the oil fields of Burma (Myanmar) and India before residing in Canada. They moved from Canada to Odessa in 1960.
Jan is survived by sons Andrew A. Horn M.D., pathologist, and David R. Horn, Ph.D, petroleum geologist; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving, in Scotland, are Jan’s brother, the Rev. Andrew Russell, and sister, Annie Walker.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Dr. Philip McLarty officiating.

Billy Dee Duesler
ODESSA — Billy Dee Duesler was born Jan. 11, 1941, in Clovis, N.M., to George and Ida Mary Duesler. He passed away Tuesday, Nov. 2, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was preceded in death by his mother and also by his brother, Lloyd.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. today at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Duesler was a narcotics investigator. He worked for the Andrews Sheriff’s Department and was assigned to the Trans-Pecos Drug Task Force.
Survivors include his wife, Terri Duesler of Odessa; his daughters, Dienna Miller of Elkhart and Emilie Smith of Odessa; one son, Billy Floyd Duesler of the home; his brother, Gary; and his father, George.
