Martha Blair

SHERMAN — Martha Rae Blair, 58, of Denison died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Zale Lipahy Hospital in Dallas.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Sherman Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints with Donald Buchannan officiating. Burial will be at Fairview cemetery in Denison. Arrangements by Bratcher Funeral Home of Denison.

SURVIVORS: Husband, John Blair of Denison; mother, Nadine Knotts of Odessa; daughter, Marvilyn Bohannan of Virginia; brother, William R. Knott Jr. of Nacodoches; sisters, Barbara A. Speidel of Wharton and Betty O. Knott of Odessa; and two grandchildren.

Noel Henkell

ODESSA — Noel Ray Henkell, 81, of Odessa, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at a local hospital.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

He was born in Hatch, N.M.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Dennis Henkell of Hurst and Terry Henkell of Odessa; daughter, Sherry Henkell of Buda; brother, Henry Henkell of Henessey, Okla.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Ismael Lara

PECOS — Ismael M. Lara, 68, of Pecos, a retired Pecos Balley Southern Railroad employee, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Reeves County Hospital.

Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Santa Rosa Catholic Church. Burial will be at Greenwood cemetery. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Pecos Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangments by Pecos Funeral Home.

He was born in Mertzon. He was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Albina Lara of Pecos; daughters, Lucy Gonzales and Yolanda Rubio, both of Pecos; brother, Mike Lara of Pecos; sisters, Helen Tapia, Irene Licon and Lola Garcia, all of Pecos, Otelia Balles of Los Banos, Calif., Margie Adams of Houston and Sophia Devault of Atwater, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Maxwell Porter

ANDREWS — Maxwell Porter, 66, of Odessa, a former Union Oil Company employee, died Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Snyder Oaks Nursing Home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at McNett Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ivy Shelton officiating. Burial will be at Andrews West cemetery. Arrangements by McNett Funeral Home.

He was born in Fayette, Ala. He lived in Andrews for 44 years before moving to Odessa four yeas ago. He was Baptist.

SURIVIVORS: Daughters, Debra Smith of Lubbock and Darla Stevenson of Odessa; sisters, Francis Norris, Opal Porter and Chestin Pollard, all of Winfield, Ala.; and five grandchildren.

W.J. Smith

ODESSA — William J. "Buddy" Smith, 79, of Odessa, a former self-employed milk salesman, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with the Rev. David Adkins officiating. Burial will be at Ector County cemetery. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

He was born in Springtown. He lived in Odessa for 69 years.

SURIVIVORS: Wife, Lucille Boyles Smith of Odessa; son, Leslie L. Smith of Odessa; daughter, Sharon Smith Lackey of Hamilton; two grandsons and four great-grandchildren.

Billy Smart

IRAAN — Billy J. Smart, 70, of Iraan, a retired city of Iraan employee, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at his home.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at restland cemetery with Mike Wright officiating. Arrangements by Richard W. Box Funeral Home of Iraan.

He was born in Cross Plains. He lived in Iraan for 50 years.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Pansy Kennedy Smart of Irran; sons, Billy Ray Smart of Iraan and Michael Wayn Smart of McCamey; daughters, Cathy Renea Ervine and Lanette Christine Guginski, both of Iraan, and Miranda Kay Smart of San Antonio; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Audrey Harlos

MIDLAND — Audrey D. Harlos, 82, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at Midland Memorial Hospital.

Arrangements are pending with Pecos Funeral Home.

Robert Corbett

ODESSA — Robert Lee "Bob" Corbett, 51, of Odessa, a truck driver, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000, at Veterans Hospital in Big Spring.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Rose Hill cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

He was born in Phoenix, Ariz. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

Robert Dillard

ANDREWS — Robert Samuel "Bob" Dillard Jr., 79, of Andrews, a retired employee of Phillips Oil Company, died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at his residence.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Andrews Church of Christ with Dyrel Collins and John Snider officiating. Burial will be at the Andrews Old cemetery. Arrangements by McNett Funeral Home.

He was born in Coryell County and was a longtime resident of Andrews. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Church of Christ.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Bobbie Dillard of Andrews; son, Sam Dillard of Andrews; daughter, Lee Ann Partain of Andrews; brothers, Joe Dillard and James Dillard, both of Andrews; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

J.W. Green

ODESSA — J.W. Green, 78, of Odessa, a retired machinist, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at New Horizons Nursing Home.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Floyd Green Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.

He was born in Winchester. He was an Army veteran. He was Methodist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Mattie Green of Odessa; daughters, Carolyn Sue Wilson of Corpus Christi, Lois Jones and Brenda Medlock, both of Dallas, and Carolyn Fears of Odessa; son, Carl Medlock of Odessa; brother, Floyd Green of Big Spring; and sisters, Beatrice Clark of Smithville and Mozell Bluford of Sweetwater.

Valerie Turner

ODESSA — Valerie Jane Turner, 53, of Odessa, a retired bus driver, died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Roscoe Sutton officiating. Burial will be at Ector County cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.

She was born in Odessa and was a lifelong resident. She was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Chris Anthony Turner and Jerry Lynn Turner, both of Odessa; daughter, Ruthie LaShaun Turner of Odessa; brother, Vernell Haynes of Odessa; sister, Neda Haynes of Odessa; and 11 grandchildren.

Barney Merritt

MIDLAND — Barney G. Merritt, 84, of Odessa died Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, at Memorial Hospital and Medical Center in Midland.

Arrangements are pending with Pipkin Funeral Home and Chapel.
