ODESSA — Charles Ray "Slim" Hamilton, 66, of Odessa, an Army veteran of the Korean War, died Friday, Aug. 10, 2000.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Martinez Funeral Home with the Rev. W.C. Kenan officiating. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.
He was born in Quanah. He was a decorated lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a self-employed businessman.

PECOS — Maria Pisana Martinez, 67, of Pecos, a retired Pecos-Barstow-Toyah Independent School District employee, died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at St. Lukes Hospital in Houston.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. Burial will be at Mount Evergreen cemetery. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Martinez Funeral Home Chapel. Arra ngements by Martinez Funeral Home of Pecos.
She was born in Presidio. She was a longtime resident of Pecos. She was Catholic.

PECOS — Maria Felix "Fela" Reyes, 68, of Pecos, a homemaker, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at Odessa Medical Center.
Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Santa Rosa Catholic Church. Burial will be at Santa Rosa cemetery. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Pecos Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements by Pecos Funeral Home.
She was born in Presidio. She lived in Pecos for 51 years. She was Catholic.

Cleo Curington
ODESSA — Cleo H. Curington, 94, of Odessa died Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at a local nursing home.

Hilaria Medrano Almanza
ODESSA — Hilaria Medrano Almanza, 73 years of age, passed away Aug. 14, 2000, at her Odessa residence. She was born Dec. 6, 1926, in Hobbs, Texas. She graduated from Hobbs High School and attended Odessa College. She owned and operated La Villita Cafe in downtown Odessa for 11 years until her retirement in 1989. She married
Pedro Almanza June 10, 1944, in Rotan at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Mrs. Almanza was loved dearly by all her family and friends. She was called "Mother" even by those who were not related to her. She was a very caring person. Mother always took the time to take care of others no matter how busy she was. She was a great cook and loved cooking for everyone. She volunteered with the hospital auxiliary at Medical Center Hospital. She took classes at Odessa College and also taught a Mexican food cooking class there. Mother is always remembered for her smile and cheerful attitude with everyone. Two weeks before her death, she participated in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. This was her fourth year to participate in this event.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Camilla Galan.
Survivors include spouse, Pedro Almanza of Odessa; sons, Pete Almanza (wife, Mary Ann) and Benny Almanza, both of Odessa; daughters, Linda Aguirre (husband, Jaime Villagran), Geneva Ybarra and Evelyn Garcia (husband, William Garcia), all of Odessa; daughter-in-law Madelena Cox (husband, Cary) of Odessa; brothers, Ramon Medrano of Odessa, Cayetano Medrano of Snyder, Ben Medrano and Marcos Medrano, both of Hobbs, Texas; sisters, Ruth Gonzales of Odessa, Pauline Gonzales of Stamford and Natividad Lopez of Abilene; grandchildren, Elia Goodman (husband, William) of Reno, Nev., Jo Ann Ybarra of San Antonio and from Odessa, Yvonne Ybarra Paul Almanza (wife, Shirley), Pete Almanza III (wife, Cindy), Elizabeth Armendarez (husband, Raul), Linda Garcia, Marc Almanza, Nicole Almanza, Angela Huertas (husband, David) of Dallas, Amy Matta (husband, Mark) of Odessa and Sonia Almanza; great-grandchildren, Brandon Ybarra of Reno, Nev., and from Odessa, Carmen Almanza, Anthony Almanza, Jordan Caleb Almanza, Shane Patterson, Karina Almanza, Kamryn Almanza, Isaiah Armendarez and Kamilla Armendarez.
Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home. Mass for the Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with the Rev. James Bridges officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Bruno Cortez, Paul Almanza, Pete Almanza III, Marc Almanza, Raul Armendarez, Benny Medrano, Frank Mijares, Fred Lopez and Ruben Velasquez Jr.
Her family would like to thank her doctors, Dr. Kandelwahl, Dr. Agasala, Dr. Kadir and Dr. Perlman, the American Cancer Society, Community Care Hospice, Father James Bridges, Father Mark Woodruff, Pastor Doug Herget, Lupe and Delores Mijares and the many, many family and friends for their assistance, prayers and visits during Mother’s illness.

ODESSA — Robert L. Esman, 77, of Odessa, a retired construction worker, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at his residence.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Rose Hill cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home.
He was born in Childers.

Snow Hall
IRAAN — Snow Blackburn Hall, 78, of Iraan, a retired teacher, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at San Angelo Community Hospital.

She was born in Taiban, N.M., and had been a resident of Iraan since 1927. She was Methodist.

BROWN COUNTY — Walter "Walt" Hulsey, 82, of Lake Brownwood, a retired pumper for Atlantic Richfield Company, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at a Bangs nursing home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Rocky Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Justice officiating. Burial will be at Rocky Creek cemetery. Arrangements by Heartland Funeral Home.
He was born in Calvin, Okla., and moved to Lake Brownwood in 1977 from Odessa. He was a Navy veteran. He was Baptist.

SAN ANTONIO DEL BRAVO, Mexico — Jaime Armando Valles, 68, of Pecos, a laborer, died Friday, Aug. 11, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be in San Antonio del Bravo, Mexico. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home of Pecos.
He was born in San Antonio del Bravo and was a longtime resident of Pecos. He was Catholic.

James Shelton
ODESSA — James Shelton, 73, of Odessa, died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

Rex E. Galloup
ODESSA — Rex E. Galloup, 84, of Odessa, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 4, 2000, after a brief illness.
Rex was born June 16, 1915, in Neodesha, KS. He held a BBA from West Texas State University. He was a well-respected oilfield salesman and manufacturer’s representative for many years. He also owned Echosonic Technical Sales Co.
Rex married
the love of his life, Juanita, on July 26, 1942. They extended their love by adopting a baby girl, Jan, in 1951.
Rex was a longtime and faithful member of Redeemer Lutheran Church. He was the "official" coffee maker, and will be fondly remembered by all those who attended bible class.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita; his daughter, Jan, and her husband, Jerry Crouser of San Angelo; a sister, Helen and her husband, Chet Braafladt, of Dimmitt. He is also survived by three grandsons; and two great-grandsons.
There will be a memorial service for Rex at Redeemer Lutheran Church at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 9, 2000, with pastor A. Dean Kelm officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested to be made to one’s favorite charity or to the Redeemer Lutheran Memorial Fund.
