Alpha E. Burke
ODESSA — Alpha E. Burke, 83, of Odessa died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dr. Philip McLarty officiating. Burial will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Elm Grove cemetery in Alpine.
She was born Aug. 21, 1916, in Richland. She married
Shelby Burke June 5, 1948, in Alpine.
Mrs. Burke is a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Shelby Burke of Odessa; son, Charles H. Mills and wife, Debra Kay, of Paint Rock; two grandchildren, Kristi Guyer and husband, Greg, and Kelly Edmiston and husband, Brian; and great-granddaughter, Katie Edmiston.

Ruth Havens McIntosh
ODESSA — Ruth Havens McIntosh, 78, of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
She was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Mills County at Pecan Wells to Silas Havens and Rosa Ellen Merrill Havens. She moved to Cross Plains in August 1926, where she attended high school.
She married
Robert Edward Nepveu July 3, 1941. They had one son, Silas Edward Nepveu.
Robert Nepveu was killed in France during World War lI. She married
Eldon McIntosh July 16, 1947. They had one son, Gary Eldon McIntosh.
She is survived by sons, Gary Eldon Mclntosh and wife, Reda, of Odessa and Silas Edward Nepveu and wife, Susie, of Denison; brothers, S. L. Havens of Midland, W. F. Havens of Gardena, Calif., and C.C. Havens of Rockwall; sisters, Deen Brown of San Angelo, Rosie Marie Haakenson and Lois Marie Anderson, both of Fox River Grove, Ill.; grandchildren, Shawn Mclntosh of Odessa, Rianne Elizabeth Mclntosh of Odessa and Shanna Davis of Weatherford.

He will be remembered for his robust laughter and loving heart, his unforgettably delicious pies, his scientific efforts and fight against AIDS.
Scott W. Sage
LONG BEACH, Calif. — Mr. Sage, 31, of Long Beach, formally of West Hollywood, Calif., died Feb. 10, 2000, in Los Angeles at Midway Hospital. Under the care of Dr. Michael Gottlieb. Scott fought a long, valiant battle against AIDS.
Scott was born Aug. 23, 1968, in Kermit. He grew up in Midland and was a 1986 honor graduate of Robert E. Lee High School. Scott received numerous scholarships and fellowships and went on to attend Texas A&M University and graduated cum laude in May 1990 with a bachelor of science degree in biochemistry. While a student, he worked on a research project for Dr. Tim Lohman in the Department of Biochemistry, which resulted in a publication in The Journal of Biological Chemistry in 1989. Also, while in school at A&M, Scott served as president of the Gay Students Association.
Following graduation, Scott was employed in Indianapolis by Eli Lilly and Company in their Diabetes Discovery Research Division. While with Lilly, Scott was awarded the LRL President’s Association Recognition Award in 1992 which recognizes scientists for outstanding scientific contributions and because of his unique contributions to research for diabetes. Scott became a co-inventor for three patent applications, one of which is now approved. Scott chose his field of study to honor his loving grandmother, the late Clydene Maxwell of Odessa, who suffered with diabetes. After working for Lilly, Scott moved to California and continued his work as a research biochemist employed by Amgen Inc. of Thousand Oaks, Calif.
Scott was strongly family oriented and spent many wonderful holidays and vacations with his immediate and extended families. He was especially loved by his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins with whom he spent many wonderful years of his life. He will always be loved and remembered by his entire family, but especially by his mother whose heart is and was always with him. He loved boating, snow skiing, water skiing, wrestling and the beautiful sunshine and beaches of Southern California.
Scott was blessed with many close friends while living in California and would want them all to know how much he treasured their friendship and support. Several of his friends, including Drew Franklin, will be riding in Scott’s memory in the upcoming 7th California AIDS Ride, a 600-mile bicycle ride up the coast of California to gain funding for AIDS research and support.
Scott would also want to express special thanks to his friend, Al Benson, for his extraordinary assistance to his family in their time of need.
Scott is preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. F.R. Maxwell of Odessa; and his grandfather, William H. Sage of Kermit. Scott also lost many close friends to AIDS during the past 10 years.
He is survived by his mother, Darlene Wells and her husband, Jeff, of Odessa; and by his father, Roy Sage and his wife, Sharon, of Midland. He is also survived by his sister, Marnie Sage of Dallas; grandmother, Genevieve Sage of Kermit; great-grandmother, Jewell Mathers of Denver City; great-aunt, Boyce Blakeney, also of Odessa; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.
In his beautiful memory, the family requests any memorial donations be made to the AIDS Project Los Angeles at 1313 N. Vine St., Los Angeles, Calif., 90028, or to the AIDS-related charity of choice.
Ethel Hallie Rector
ODESSA — Ethel Hallie Rector, 90, of Odessa died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.
She was born April 23, 1909, in Mabank. She moved to Odessa in 1934 and married
OdeIl Rector in April 1947.
She was a homemaker and everyone called her "Biggie." She also poured ceramics for her granddaughter for 15 years. Her life was her family; she raised two children of her own and raised seven more.
Survivors include her husband, OdeIl of Odessa; son, Dan Sikes and his wife, Mary, of Anson; daughter, Johnnie Williams of Odessa; granddaughter, Susan Kennedy of Odessa; and great-grandson, Kelly S. Kennedy of Odessa. She also is survived by her niece and nephew, Juanita and Noel Shackelford of Austin.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 25, 2000, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. James P. Bridges officiating. Interment will be in Odessa cemetery.

Bessie Mae Watson
ODESSA — Bessie Mae Watson, 85, of Odessa died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2000, at her residence. She was born March 16, 1914, in Lockesburg, Ark. She was raised in Roosevelt, Okla., and married
James M. Watson Nov. 1, 1930, in Lockesburg, Ark. They moved to Odessa from Wilson, Okla., in 1986. She was a homemaker but had owned a restaurant and had been a cook for schools and hospitals. She was a positive person who never complained and never had a bad word to say. There was nothing that she would not try in cooking and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her husband on April 11, 1994; daughter, Patsy Anderson; parents, John and Sally Henson; and five brothers, Bonnie, Hubert, Herbert, Richard and Truman Henson.
Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Wallis and her husband, Curt, and Jimmie Gilham and her husband, Jack, all of Odessa. She also is survived by grandchildren, Mike and Karen Wallis, Karen and Josh Villasenor, Kasey Garrett and Ashley Gilham; great-grandchildren, Joel and Melanie Villasenor, Lacy and Jason Wise, Lori Villasenor and Chrissy and Trey Harris; and great-great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kylie and Dakota. Other survivors include her sisters, Ollie Belle Robinson of Eunice, N.M., and Imogene Teague of Hobart, Okla.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, Feb. 25, 2000.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 26, 2000, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Melvin Warren officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Rebeca Baeza
ODESSA — Rebeca Jordan Baeza, 64, of Odessa died Wednesday, February 9, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Catedral De Alabunza with the Rev. Pedro Emiliano officiating. Interment will follow in Rosehill cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.
Public visitation was 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Martinez Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation will also be 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday at the Martinez Funeral Home Chapel.
She was born in Ocampo, Mexico, on January 31, 1936. She was married
to Jose Baeza, 54. She was a member of Assembly of God, Catedral De Alabunza. She worked as a dishwasher at La Bodega.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ruperto Jordan, and her mother, Leonor Gomez.
She is survived by her husband, Jose Baeza of Odessa; sons, Cesar Adame Jordan of Odessa, Alfonso Adame Jordan of Odessa; daughter, Naomi Garcia of Odessa; sisters, Librada Carrasco of Chihuahua, Mexico, Maria Colomo of Odessa, Julia Valenzuela of Odessa, Manuela Garcia and Maria De Socorro, both of Ojinaga, Mexico.
Valerio Guerrero Jr
ODESSA — Valerio Guerrero Jr. (Chico), 38, of Odessa died Saturday, February 12, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Iglesia Christiana Maranatha with Alfonso Padilla officiating. Burial will follow at Rosehill cemetery. The family will receive friends Monday 6 p.m. to 9 p.m at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel.
He was born in Midland on December 4, 1961. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
His grandparents preceded him in death.
He is survived by his sons, Valerio Guerrero III and David Guerrero of Odessa; parents, Valerio and Lilia Guerrero of Odessa; brothers, Joe Guerrero of Odessa, Alex Guerrero of Spindale, N.C., Ignacio Guerrero of Odessa, Santiago Guerrero of Odessa, Ramon Guerrero of Odessa; sisters, Elida Padilla of Odessa, Quila Ulate of Odessa, Maggie Schumpert of Ruidoso, N.M., Oralia Avila of Midland; half-brother, Sergio Guerrero of Ojinaga, Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.
