Charles "Chuck" Edward Conley
ODESSA — Graveside services for Charles "Chuck" Edward Conley, 55, of Odessa, are scheduled for 9 a.m. today at Rose Hill cemetery with the Rev. Dick Brown officiating.
Mr. Conley died Saturday, July 15, 2000, at his residence. He was born Dec. 3, 1944, in Warren, Ohio.
Mr. Conley moved to Odessa in 1979 from Salem, Ore. He was an oilfield worker and a member of the Nazarene Church. He had a wonderful sense of fun and always made everyone laugh. The family wishes to thank his caregivers from Home Hospice and his special angel, Karen Parks.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John H. and Kathryn Conley; and brother, John C. Conley Jr.
Survivors include ex-wife, Margaret Conley of Odessa; son, Jeff Lee Conley of Akron, Ohio; stepson, Bill Winters and wife, Suzy, of Odessa; daughter, Julie Ann Conley of Anderson, Ind.; stepdaughters, Mary Sanchez and husband, Robert, of Uvalde, Margaret Navarette and husband, Larry, of Odessa and Molly Gray and husband, Brady, of Arlington; sisters, Linda Swiger of Orlando, Fla., Alice Whaley of Davenport, Fla., and Mary Ann Reakes of Newton Falls, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mildred Helmers
GIRVIN — Mrs. Mildred Helmers, age 81, formerly of Girvin, died Monday, July 17, 2000, at her daughter’s residence in Colorado City. Her body was cremated and a graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sherwood cemetery with Dr. Ted Spear officiating.
Mrs. Helmers was born July 15, 1919, in Belcher, La. She married
Arno Adolf Helmers on Jan. 30, 1935, in Mertzon. He preceded her in death March 13, 1983. She was a retired postmaster, having served 32 years with the U.S. Postal Service. She was a member of the Baptist church.
Survivors include two daughters, Jan Lemons and husband, Bobby, of Colorado City and Arna McCorkle and husband, Glenn, of Fort Stockton; two sons, Stanley Helmers and wife, Nelda, of Monahans and John Helmers of San Angelo; a sister, Helen Blankenship and husband, Smokey, of Beeville; four sisters-in-law, Hope Carlson of Waco, Dorothy Hoey and Irene Willis, both of Grand Prairie, and Selma Helmers; a brother-in-law, Alfred Helmers of Girvin, nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials please be made to your favorite charity.

Kenya Kawonda Batie
ODESSA — Kenya Kawonda Batie, 26, of Odessa, joined our heavenly father Monday, July 17, 2000, at Baylor University in Dallas.
Services are scheduled at 1 p.m. Friday at Martinez Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrel Willis officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.
Miss Batie was born May 31, 1974, in Toledo, Ohio, at Saint Vincent Hospital. Miss. Batie moved to Odessa in 1981 with her parents. She graduated from Permian High School in 1993. Miss Batie was a sweet and honest person.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Hattie Mag Batie, her aunt Virgina White, and cousin Nichole Heffner.
Survivors include parents, Estella "Cookie" and Lee Earl Batie of Odessa; sisters, Lebra and Felica Batie, both of Odessa; brother, London "Prince" Irons of Corinth, Miss.; grandparents, McNeal and Lousel Cook of Hattiesburg, Miss.; two aunts, Shirley Simon of Odessa and Brenda Beaty of Hattiesburg; uncles, Larry, James, Travis, Billy and David Batie, all of Odessa, Dexter Batie of Dallas, Charles Batie of Toledo, Stanley Batie of Corinth, McNeal Cook Jr. of Vicksburg, Miss., Tomas Hatch of Milwaukee, Wis., McHenry Cook of Detroit and Louis Cook of Hattiesburg; one nephew, Diante Bars of Odessa; two nieces, Kyerra and Contaneice, both of Corinth; and a host of cousins, friends and other family members.

Pat Neff McClellan
GOLDSMITH — Services for Pat Neff McClellan, 79, of Goldsmith, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with the Revs. Jimmy Cameron and Bill Heggemeier officiating. Military graveside services will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mr. McClellan died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at his residence. He was born July 30, 1920, in Gouldbusk, the 10th of 11 children to Elijah Shanklin and Beedie Frances Archer McClellan. He married
Kathryn Evans Oct. 3, 1948, at First Methodist Church in Goldsmith.
Mr. McClellan moved to Goldsmith in 1946. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, stationed in England. He was a nose gunner on a B-24 Liberator. He was interned as a prisoner of war in Switzerland. He worked for Phillips Petroleum Company. He operated the Phillips service station in Goldsmith, which evolved into his owning and also operating his own trucking company, Pat M. McClellan, Inc., for 27 years. He was a 32nd degree mason and a member of the Oddfellow Lodge and Lions Club of Goldsmith. He was a charter member of the Goldsmith Volunteer Fire Department. He served as the institutional representative for the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the First Methodist Church of Goldsmith. He was a very special dad, granddad and great-granddad.
Survivors include spouse, Kathryn McClellan of Goldsmith; daughter, Carolyn McClellan White of Goldsmith; brother, Lester Archer McClellan of Coleman; sister, Mary Bernelle Pittard of Austin; three grandchildren, Patrick White, Todd Ryan White and Carolina Leyva; seven great-grandchildren, Shelbie, Ryan, Catherine Marie, Sean Patrick, Taylor, Rose and Lily; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Truman "Harold" Birdwell
ODESSA — Truman "Harold" Birdwell, 72, of Odessa, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, July 19, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.
He was born Oct. 22, 1927, in Hurlwood. He married
Della Deloris Garrett June 9, 1956, at First Baptist Church in Roseburg, Ore.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday July 22, 2000, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. Johnny Dickerson officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Birdwell was a Navy veteran of World War II. He moved to Odessa in 1957 from Roseburg, Ore. He was employed by General Tire Company for 32 years. He liked to tinker and rebuild old tractors and cars. He also liked to fish, hunt, work in the yard and enjoyed their lake house in Brownwood. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clive and Doshia Birdwell; and a sister, Gladys Abernethy.
Mr. Birdwell is survived by his wife, Deloris Birdwell of Odessa; daughters, Ronda Harlene Thomas and Vanda Gail Dickson and husband, Ronnie, all of Odessa; granddaughter, Ava Nicole Thomas of Lewisville; grandson, Sean Addison Thomas of Odessa; brothers, Willard Birdwell and wife, Pat, of Ponca City, Okla., Lyndon Birdwell and wife, Wilma, of Oklahoma City and Jerry Birdwell and wife, Carroll, of Fort Worth; sister, Mary Sunderland and husband, Neil, of Garland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Billy Weldon "Willie" Robinson
ODESSA — Billy Weldon "Willie" Robinson, 69, of Odessa died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at Veterans Hospital in Big Spring.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 24, 2000, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Chapel. Burial will be Tuesday at Dallas-Fort Worth National cemetery in Dallas.
He was born March 15, 1931, in Portales, N.M.
Mr. Robinson moved to Odessa in the 1960s from Hobbs, N.M. He worked in the oilfield most of his life. He was Baptist.
Survivors include his daughter, Susan Woodard of Odessa; and four grandchildren, Benjamin and Brandie Woodard, Jennafer and Shelby Tomlinson.

Wanda Clydean "Dean" Brunson
ODESSA — Wanda Clydean "Dean" Brunson, 72, of Odessa, a homemaker, died Sunday, July 23, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born July 26, 1927, in Munday to Brents and Lorena Underwood.
Services are at 10 a.m. today at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clydell Chapman of Northside Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Brunson married
Walter "Curley" Brunson Jan. 17, 1948, in Levelland. They moved to Odessa in 1958. She taught at Inner-Faith Service Sewing Division and was a member of the Sandhill Sams R.V. club.
Mr. Brunson preceded her in death June 18, 2000.
Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Penn and husband, Cecil, of Arlington and Tammy Patni and husband, Karim, of Odessa; a brother, Glenn Underwood of Plainview; a sister, Mary "Mavaline" Miller of Gas City, Ind.; and four grandchildren, Matthew and Emily Penn and Lisa and Bryan Patni.
Memorials may be made to Northside Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.

Hazel Burrow
ODESSA — Hazel Burrow, 81, of Adamsville, Utah, died July 23, 2000, at her residence. She was born Sept. 13, 1918, in Okra.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 28, 2000, at Ector County cemetery with Lynn Money officiating.
Mrs. Burrow married
Rolen Woodrow Burrow in East Texas 67 years ago. They moved to Odessa in 1942 from Kermit. She was a member of the Church of Christ and loved to make quilts and read.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Nickell of Adamsville, Utah; grandchildren, Tenna Nowel, Katherine Lesly, Cindy Metcalf, Debra Gentles and Carolyn Tivet; and great-grandchildren, Nathan Holbrook, Ryon Gentles, Tabathia Kay Lesly, John Paul Lesly and Rebecca Gene Lesly.
