MARFA — Rafael Carmona, 82, of California, a retired meat packer, died Saturday, June 24, 2000, in Los Angeles, Calif.

Military graveside services will be at 5 p.m. Friday at Merced cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.

He was born in Marfa and was was a World War II veteran. He was Catholic.

Survivors: Wife, Enedina Carmona of Alhambra, Calif.; sons, Ralph and David Carmona, both of California; daughters, Debbie McRae of Borneo, Indonesia and Linda Schweizer of California; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Neva Carrell

ODESSA — Neva Maudine Carrell, 82, of Odessa, a retired registered nurse at Medical Center Hospital, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Ernest Easley officiating. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson.

She was born in Munday and was a member of First Baptist Church.

Survivors: Son, Steven Dean of Austin; brother, William Boyd Sargent of Fort Worth; and a grandchild.

Thomas Grissom

ODESSA — Thomas L. Grissom, 75, of Odessa, a retired oilfield worker, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Bunyan cemetery in Dublin, Texas. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

He was born in Slaton and was Baptist.

Survivor: Sister, Mildred Williams of Odessa.

Irene Pleasant

KINGSPORT, Tenn. — Irene E. Pleasant, 72, of Seabrook died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, in Nassau Bay.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Oak Hill cemetery and Mausoleum. Family visitations will be held on Friday at Oak Hill Funeral Home in Kingsport. Arrangements by Oak Hill Funeral Home in Kingsport and Forest Park East Funeral Home of Webster, Texas.

She was born in Church Hill, Tenn. and had lived in Odessa.

SURVIVORS: Husband, Fred Pleasant of Seabrook, Texas; daughter, Karen Cook of Odessa; sons, Tim Pleasant of League City, Texas, and Steven Pleasant of Pearland, Texas; sisters, Velma Walters of London, Ohio, Wanda Phillips and Joyce Allen, both of Rogersville, and Annette Bailey of Cowan; brothers, William David Churchwell of Rogersville, Harold Churchwell of Cowan and Mike Churchwell of Johnson City; and two grandchildren.

Roberto Rodriguez Jr.

ODESSA — Roberto Rodriguez Jr., 17, of Odessa died Sunday, June 25, 2000.

Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Rodriquez officiating. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery. Arrangements by Odessa Funeral Home.

He was born in Odessa and was a student at Odessa High School.

Survivors: Parents, Roberto Sr. and Diana Rodriguez of Odessa; brother, Manuel Rodriguez of Odessa, sisters, Adriana and Crystal Rodriguez of Odessa; and grandparents, Eliseo Martinez, Gloria Martinez Ramirez and Beatriz Campos, all of Odessa.

Campbell Smith

ODESSA — Campbell Allen Smith, 82, of Odessa, an employee of Shell Pipe Line Co., died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Crescent Park Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Dickerson officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

He was born in Evening Shade, Ark., and came to Odessa in 1958. He was Baptist.

Survivors: Wife, Opal Smith of Odessa; son, Allen H. Smith of Sapulpa, Okla.; daughters, Ethelyn "Sue" Scott of Keller, Cheryl L. Gill of Springhill, Kan., and Bonnie K. Bell of Castlerock, Colo.; sister, Floy R. Johnson of Memphis, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Floy Starr

ODESSA — Floy Queida Starr, 86, of Canton, a former teacher at Ector High School and Odessa College, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, in Garland.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Sherwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Tom Hiser officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

She was born in Mineral Wells.

Survivors: Brother, Monte Ray Davis of Fort Worth; sons, Donald O. Starr of Mesquite and Michael P. Starr of Houston; daughter, Janice L. Gordon of Canton; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Karen Thornton

ODESSA — Karen Elaine Thornton, 39, of Odessa, a housewife, died Friday, June 23, 2000, in Odessa.

Services will be held at 10 a.m Friday at Bethlehem Baptist Church with the Rev. Roscoe Sutton officiating. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.

She was born in Waco and was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.

Survivors: Father, James Robinson of Odessa; son, Christopher Robinson of Odessa; daughters, Takesha Robinson and Syneka Thornton, both of Odessa; brothers, Kenneth Robinson of Arlington and David Smith Jr. of Waco; and sisters, Ruby Moore of Odessa, Cheryl Cawthon of Syracuse, N.Y., and Jacklyn Tate of Waco.

Anita Squires

ORANGE — Anita Cate Squires, 76, of Broaddus, a homemaker, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, in Orange.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Claybar Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Barry Bradley and Don Richey Jr. officiating. Graveside services will be at 4 p.m. today at Broaddus cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Barth officiating. Arrangements by Claybar Funeral Home.

She was born in Desdemona and had been a resident of Broaddus since 1987. She was a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: sons, Robert Squires of Monahans and Danny Squires of Orange; daughters, Marsha Kemper of Orange; brothers, M.A. Cate of Verhalen and Adrian Cate of Bedford; and three grandchildren.

Lillian Wadley

ODESSA — Lillian "Penny" Wadley, 72, of Odessa, a retired nurse’s assistant, died Thursday, June 29, 2000, at Deerings Nursing Home.

Services will be at 4 p.m. Saturday at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home with the Rev. Weeks Dubose officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

She was born in Philadelphia and had been a resident of Odessa since 1952. She was a Baptist.

SURVIVORS: sons, Clayton Wadley and Gregory Wadley, both of Odessa; stepson, Stan Wadley of Durant, Okla.; and three grandchildren.
