Jack Hummel
ODESSA — Jack Hummel, 76, of Odessa passed away Sunday, July 2, 2000, in Corpus Christi. He was born Sept. 28, 1923, in Wanette, Okla., to Charles and Katy Hummel.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ector County cemetery in Odessa with the Rev. Walter McCall of Big Spring officiating.
Mr. Hummel served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He moved to Odessa in 1994 from Washington state. He loved to play with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also loved the ocean.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Charles and Katy Hummel; brother, Bobby Hummel; and his daughter, Susan West.
Mr. Hummel is survived by a son, John C. Hummel and wife, Ruth, of El Dorado Hills, Calif.; daughters, Yvonne Vicaes and husband, Nolan, of Kingville and Charlene Flemming of Middletown, R.I.; sisters, Phyllis Bagley and her husband, Robert, of Odessa and Mary Tyler of Odessa; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Elvis Wayne Jones
ABILENE — Elvis Wayne Jones, 66, passed away Monday, July 3, 2000, at a local hospital in Abilene.
Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at the Elmwood Funeral Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2000, at the Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel with Kevin York, of Mid-Cities Community Church, officiating.
Mr. Jones was born June 18, 1934, in Abilene, to Newton Otto and Verda Jones. He worked as a sheet metal specialist.
He married
Patricia Brecheen Dec. 22, 1952.
Mr. Jones was a loving father and grandfather, to all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was known as "Papoo", he was also an avid sports fan.
Survivors include his sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Donna Jones and Bobby and Rhonda Jones, all of Odessa; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Rick Parsons, Donna and Stu Parsons and Karen Jones, all of Odessa, and Jacqi Richey of Abilene; brothers, Bobby Jones of Abilene and Glenn Jones of Arlington; sisters, Wanda Plowman of Abilene and Judi Brentham of Grand Prairie; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many lifelong friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, N.O. Jones; his mother, Verda Jones; and a sister, Jackie Boles.
The Family will gather at Calvary Baptist Church following the service located at North 12th Street and Minter Avenue.

Elma Marie Massey
ODESSA — Elma Marie Massey, 79, of Midland died Saturday, July 1, 2000, at her residence.
She was born March 8, 1921, in Oldham, S.D., to Christopher and Ruth Edmonds Aaland. She married
John R. Massey, Jan. 7, 1942, in Denver.
Elma Massey and her husband John "Jay", lived in many areas of the United States while he worked in pipeline construction, and moved to Odessa in 1958 where they raised their six children. Elma moved to Midland in June of 1996.
Elma was a member of Odessa Bible Church, an avid pro-life sponsor, a full-time homemaker, loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved antique glassware and owned and operated Elma’s Antiques for many years.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2000, in Odessa at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel with pastor Gary Albe of Odessa Bible Church officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Her loving husband of over 50 years, two grandchildren, one brother and four sisters preceded her in death.
She is survived by her five daughters and son-in-laws, Marie and Larry Jones of Colorado Springs, Colo., Sharri and Jim Ketcham of Midland, Janyce and Jimmy Chesnut of Alamogordo, N.M., Carolyn and Phil VanAuken of Waco, Veja and Casey Ellison of Gardendale; and a son, Darrell Massey of Odessa; and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Massey of Odessa; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; brothers, John Aaland and Curtis Aaland both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and sisters, Arlene Zapp of Carthage, S.D., and Ellen Shanks of Indianapolis.

Maxine Mitchell
MARFA — Maxine Mitchell, 64, died Monday evening, July 3, 2000, at her home south of Marfa.
A memorial service will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at First United Methodist Church. Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Mitchell was born April 4, 1936, in Pecos. She married
Hayes Mitchell Jr. Jan. 9, 1955. She spent her life doing what she loved most, playing golf and cheering on her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Hayes Mitchell Jr. of Marfa; mother, Nita Oliver of Ruidoso, N.M.; daughters, Maria Buren of Whitney, Debbie Aufdengarten and husband, Ellery Aufdengarten, of Fort Davis, Laurie Mund and husband, Brad Mund, of Wall; eight grandchildren, Megan Leal, John and Colin Buren, all of Whitney, Kaki, Mitch and Gerry Aufdengarten of Fort Davis, Casey and Brice Mund of Wall and one great-grandson, Brian Leal of Whitney.

Margaret Frances Shafer
ODESSA — Margaret Shafer, (Mrs. W.O. Shafer), 83, of Odessa, died July 1, 2000, at Presbyterian Hospital in Plano.
She was born Dec. 22, 1918, in Fort Worth. She was a member of the first graduating class of Phillips High School and married
W.O. Shafer, November 12, 1937, in Borger. They moved to Odessa in 1938 from Big Spring and she supported W.O. in his career and of the legal profession.
She was a league bowler for many years, an avid bridge player, and loved the horse races.
She was preceded in death by her husband April 19, 1992.
She is survived by sisters, R. Louise Hamilton of Ranger and F. Marie Howard of Pearsall; nieces, Deanna L. Hargis of Amarillo, Janet K. Smith of Plainview, Susan Largo of Dallas, and Patricia Formby of Kennedale; nephew, Mark A. Harley of Tulsa, Okla.; and great niece, Jeri Bond Charles of Shreveport, La.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2000, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Rev. Dr. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Entombment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

William Robert Green
SAN ANTONIO — LTC William Robert Green (Retired U.S. Army), age 67, of San Antonio passed away on Saturday, July 1, 2000.
He was born Feb. 11, 1933, in Oklahoma City, to Claud and Francis (Armfield) Green.
He married
Lou Ann Wilkinson Dec. 23, 1955, in Coffeyville, Kan.
Col. Green retired from the U.S. Army in 1975. After retiring he was the director of the Junior R.O.T.C. Program in the Odessa schools until 1985 when he accepted a position with the Department of Defense schools in Germany.
He is survived by his wife, Lou Ann Green of San Antonio; sons, Richard Kyle Green and wife, Carol, of Manhattan, Kan., William Kurt Green and wife, Colleen, of Katy, Texas, Michael Keith Green and wife, Teri, of San Antonio; daughter, Andrea Keshtkar and husband, Khalil, of Frisco, Texas; and four grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, James C. Green of Oklahoma City and Richard Green of Cordell, Okla.
Private graveside services were held at the Fort Sam Houston National cemetery in San Antonio with military honors.
Floyd D. Howell
MIDLAND — Floyd D. Howell, 73, of Midland, Texas, died Tuesday, June 27, 2000, at the Ohio State University Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio, after a brief illness.
He graduated from Clearfield High School and DuBois Business College in Pennsylvania. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He founded Howell & Co. Inc., a public accounting firm in St. Mary’s, Pa.
He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Midland, Bethesda Lodge #64 A.F. & A.M. in Truth or Consequences, N.M., VFW Post #4372 in Odessa and Disabled American Veterans. He also served as President of the Booster Club in St. Mary’s, Pa.
Previously, he was very active with the Toastmaster’s. He was also an avid golfer and Penn State fan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Carrie Hummel Howell; sister, Esther M. McDonald; brother, Robert L. Howell; and mother-in-law, Gretchen H. Flegal.
Floyd is survived by his wife of 52 years, Nancy J. Howell; children, Floyd D. Howell III and wife, Marianne, of State College, Pa., Patricia Lee Miller and husband, Timothy, of Crestline, Ohio, William M. Howell and wife, Mercy, of Truth or Consequences, N.M., and Penni Howell Chambers and husband, Charles, of Odessa; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; brother, Fred L. Howell and wife, Reitus, of Lady Lake, Fla.; sister-in-law, Nancy E. Howell of Huron, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private service was held for the family in Columbus, Ohio, followed by cremation.
Pallbearers were: Floyd D. Howell IV, Chad Miller, Vince Jewell and Brian Weaver.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2000, at St. Paul United Methodist Church, 4501 Thomason Drive, in Midland.
Honorary pallbearers for the memorial service will be his close friends and golfing buddies.
