Jim Galloway
ODESSA — Jim Galloway, 78, of Odessa, passed away at the home of his oldest son, Richard, where he has lived for the past four years.
Jim, a music lover and aficionado of intellectual games and puzzles, was born on Independence Day 1921 to R.V. and Augusta Galloway in Ranger, Texas. He graduated from Eastland High School in 1938 and attended Ranger Junior College. He served in World War II as a trumpet player in the Army Air Forces Band.
After a brief professional music career, he began his lifelong profession as an accountant. He retired in 1994 after 30 years with Stallworth Oil and Gas/Lynx Energy in Midland and in Dallas.
Jim is survived by his three sons and their wives, Richard and Teresa of Odessa, Jerry Don and Hope of Austin and Danny and Sherrie of Mesa, Colo.; their mother, Gerry Galloway of Austin; two sisters, a brother and sister-in-law, Kathryn Watzon of Mandeville, La., Marie Varney of San Antonio, and Bob and Ann Galloway of Gladewater; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and other family and friends.
His brother, Jack Galloway, and sister, Margaret Cearley, preceded him in death.

Cindy Marie Thornhill Duran
MIDLAND — Cindy Marie Thornhill Duran, 38, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Midland Memorial Hospital and Medical Center after a lengthily illness.
She was born Jan. 19, 1961, in New Orleans, La. She was reared and educated in New Orleans, La. She later moved to Odessa with her family in 1978. She graduated from Odessa High School in 1979. She has been a resident of Midland since 1980.
She met and later married
Abel Duran April 19, 1981. She was a co-owner of Calico at the Spot Restaurant in Midland.
Mrs. Duran was an avid gardener and loved pets. She was a member of Westwood Baptist Church of Odessa.
Funeral services will he held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at Reyes-Garcia Funeral Home Chapel in Midland with the Rev. Dr. Weeks DuBuse of Westwood Baptist Church of Odessa Officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. The funeral arrangements are under the direction of Reyes-Garcia Funeral Home.
She is preceded in death by her father William J. Thornhill; her maternal grandmother, Emma Vandever; and paternal grandmother, Mary Thornhill.
Survivors include her husband, Abel Duran of Midland; daughter, Tamra Duran of Odessa; stepdaughter, Julie Morris of Midland; stepsons, Dondi Duran of Midland and Dexter Duran of Houston; stepgrandchildren, Dylan Morris of Midland and Eric Duran of Houston; mother, Bessie Parnell of Odessa; and stepfather, Russell Parnell of Odessa; sisters, Wanda Faye Penton of Folsom, La., Brenda Kerr of Odessa and Linda Gongora of Desterahan, La.; numerous nieces and nephews; and several aunts and uncles.

Leo A. Goulet
ODESSA — Leo A. Goulet, 79, of Odessa, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born March 1, 1920, in Fall River, Mass.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 9, 1999, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with the Rev. Mark Woodruff officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens cemetery.
He married
Elizabeth Barboza Sept. 20, 1941, in Fall River, Mass. He was a longtime resident of Odessa having moved his family to Texas in 1957. He was a machinist with Templeton Machine Shop for 21 years retiring in 1981. He was a Catholic.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Marie Goulet Miller; grandson, Mathew Springer; and a brother, Rene’ Goulet.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Goulet of Odessa; sons, Normand Goulet of Odessa and Thomas Goulet and his wife Gloria of Stamford; daughter, Patty Goulet Springer and husband Mike of Odessa; brother, Henry Goulet and his son Skip of Midland; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Charlie Clint Jones
ODESSA — Charlie Clint Jones passed away in his home Saturday night, Dec. 4, 1999, approximately one hour and a half before he was to reach his 94th birthday. Charlie was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Violet Bunch Jones of 54 years, who passed away Jan. 9, 1988.
Charlie will be greatly missed by his son, Tommy C. Jones; daughter, Carol J. Steveson and son-in-law, Don A. Steveson, along with Carol's son Fritz Purifoy and daughter, Allana C. Athans and her husband James.
"Pappy", as he was better known, also leaves behind five great-grandchildren, Clint, Rylee, Mason, Grant and Kira; and one great-great-grandson, Drake.
Charlie was born Dec. 5, 1905, in Parker County. He retired with Gulf Oil Co. after 36 years, then continued to work with his son Tommy in their trim shop for another 27 years.
Charlie, a Jehovah’s Witness, requested Luther Whitlow to officiate graveside services at Sunset Memorial Gardens where he will rest alongside his loving wife Violet. The services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999.

Severo Sanchez Olivas
ODESSA — Severo Sanchez Olivas, 84, of Odessa, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 1999, at Medical Center Hospital.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Fidelo Lugo officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.
He was born Nov. 8, 1915, in Candelaria, Texas. He was Catholic.
Survivors include his wife, Anita A. Olivas of Odessa; sons, Jose G. Olivas of Odessa, Efren Olivas of Pico Rivera, Calif., Reynaldo Olivas and David Olivas, both of Hobbs, N.M., and Jesse Olivas and Arturo Natividad, both of Oxnard, Calif.; daughters, Gregoria Ulate of Odessa, Manuela Duarte and Frances Hernandez, both of Pico Rivera, Calif., Adela Mireles of Tecna, Ariz., Pilar Ramirez of Fresno, Calif., Yolanda Olivas of Oxnard, Calif., and Anna Flores of Houston; brothers, Ingacio Olivas and Pedro Olivas, both of Coyame, Chihuahua, Mexico, and Sixto Olivas of Midland; sisters, Felis Olivas, Esther Jasso, Rita Ramirez and Manuela Carrillo, all of Odessa; 45 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren; and he was a father figure to many close relatives and friends.

John Fred Rives
ODESSA — John Fred Rives was born on Feb. 15, 1913, in Rotan to Thomas and Carrie Walker Rives. He passed away on Dec. 5, 1999, at the New Horizon Nursing Center.
Services have been scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8, 1999, at the Sunset Memorial Chapel with Rev. Rex Clayton of Belmont Baptist Church, officiating and the Rev. Jimmy Braswell assisting. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
John moved to Robert Lee at an early age. He was a farmer and rancher for many years before moving to Odessa in 1952. He went to work for the Ector County Independent School District in the maintenance department and retired after 27 years.
His first wife, Callie Prine Rives, preceded him in death.
He married
Zela Ruth Buford in 1974. They enjoyed traveling, fishing and hunting together. John also enjoyed gardening. He was a member of Belmont Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Buford Rives of Odessa; his daughters, Floy Heath of Odessa and Johnnie Lou Caston of Fort Stockton; his brother, Tom Rives of Robert Lee; sister, Daisy Trimble of Corsicana; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his wife’s children, Katie Sue Vickrey and her husband Roland, Patsy Beck and her husband Charlie, Rick Buford and his wife Loretta and David Buford; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Craig E. "Gene" Campbell
BIG SPRING — Craig E. "Gene" Campbell, 76, of Big Spring, died on Sunday, Dec. 5, 1999, at his residence.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 1999, at Trinity Memorial Park with Rev. Raymond Bugg, chaplain with Vista Care Family Hospice, officiating.
Gene was born March 7, 1923, to Laura Hancock Campbell and Carl Earl Campbell in Nowata, Okla. He moved to Bartlesville, Okla., in 1926, then to Tulsa in 1928. Shell Oil transferred his father to St. Louis in 1931. He grew up there and graduated from Southwest High School in St. Louis Jan. 23, 1942. While he was in high school, and his brothers were in college, they had a jazz ensemble with his father. They played at small clubs and for fraternity parties. Upon graduation, he immediately entered the Navy and was stationed in Bellingham, Wash., serving during World War II from 1943 to 1946.
He received his bachelor’s degree in chemical industrial engineering in May of 1949 from Washington University in St. Louis.
He moved from St. Louis to Big Spring in 1951, and has been owner/manager of Cactus Paint Manufacturing.
Gene joined Boy Scouts in Tulsa, Okla., in 1932. On April 14, 1939, Gene and his twin brothers, Don and Carl, received the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest award a Boy Scout can receive. This was the first time in the history of the St. Louis Council that three brothers had simultaneously achieved this ranking. He received the Silver Beaver award from the Buffalo Trail Council on Jan. 14, 1966, again with his brothers, Don and Carl.
He was a member of the Optimist Club. He enjoyed helping all children, especially the underprivileged. He did youthwork with American Legion, PTA, YMCA Indian Guides, the 4-H Club, Band Boosters and the Optimist youth motocross. Gene loved to fish and hunt.
He married
Pauline J. Brown Sept. 13, 1946, in St. Louis. She preceded him in death Aug. 10, 1996.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth "Betsy" Campbell and husband Frank Ortega of El Paso and Carolyn "Kitty" Kelly and husband John; four granddaughters, Melissa Garcia and husband Johnny Jr. of Big Spring, Sara Sanchez of El Paso, Angela Klaassen and husband Johann and Robin Kelly and husband Kevin Swab; and three great-grandchildren, Ethan Garcia, Mari-Gretta Galisteo Klaassen and Cameron Kelly Swab. He is also survived by a circle of close friends.
His only son, Craig Robert Campbell, preceded him in death in 1985. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Kersten and Margaret Jackson; and two brothers, Don Campbell and Carl Campbell.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Alexander, Gale Kilgore, Rusty Ille, Johnny Garcia Sr., Jim Wright and Haskell Holland.
Honorary pallbearers will be J. R. McMurry, David Hodnett, R. L. Heath, Floyd Pringle, Ethan Garcia, Frank Ortega and Ramiro Sanchez.
