Kenneth G. Brodnax Sr.
SAN ANGELO — Graveside services for Kenneth G. Brodnax Sr., 82, of San Angelo are scheduled for 10 a.m. today at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens under direction of Robert Massie Funeral Home.
The Rev. Santos Becera Jr. will officiate. Jon Bumann will deliver the eulogy.
Mr. Brodnax died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, after a lengthy illness. He was born May 29, 1918, in Temple.
He was valedictorian of the 1936 Eola High School class and attended business college in San Antonio. He married
Dessa Gwen Boykin Dec. 24, 1941, in San Angelo.
Mr. Brodnax served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II and farmed in the Fairview community after his discharge. He worked for the U.S. Postal Service from 1953 until 1983 and was a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
Survivors include his wife, Gwen; a daughter, Myra Betsinger and her husband, Brett, of Austin; a son, Ken Brodnax of Odessa; and a sister, Lucille Brodnax of Georgetown.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Gracie Allene Frazier
ODESSA — Gracie Allene Frazier, 70, of Bridgeport and formerly of Odessa, died Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Crescent Care Center in Bridgeport. She was born Jan. 10, 1930, in Munday. She moved to Odessa from Midland in the mid-50’s and married
Grady Frazier Jr. in 1953. She was a retired legal secretary, having worked in the law offices of Paul McCullom, and a Baptist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Grady, in 1988 and daughter, Martha Frazier.
Survivors include a son, Grady Frazier III and his wife, Karen, of Lubbock; three grandsons, Joseph Michael, Grady Paul and Dallas Brody Frazier. She is also survived by her mother, Ollie Stone of Chico and sisters, Sherry Manning of Chico, Barbara Akin of Amarillo and Betty Willis of Oregon.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 26, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Hugh Akin officiating. Arrange-ments by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Jackie Nell Chaney
ODESSA — Jackie Chaney, 68, of Odessa, died Aug. 21, 2000, at her residence.
She was born Dec. 29, 1931, in DeLeon to Andrew and Mae Dell Champion. A resident of Odessa for over 60 years, she was a graduate of Odessa High School and attended Odessa College. She married
Floyd N. Chaney June 14, 1952, in Odessa and was a Methodist.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Autry Bruce Champion.
Survivors include her husband, Floyd Chaney; son, Randy Chaney and his wife, Jeanette; and daughter, Robbie Schwartz, all of Odessa. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Marci Chaney, Laurie Chaney, Crystal Anderson, Mandy Naron and Danny Schwartz; and sister, Barbara Little and her husband, Charlie.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at Colorado City cemetery in Colorado City with the Rev. Jake Chaney officiating. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
If desired, memorials may be made to Community Care Hospice in Odessa.
John Lamar Rhodes
ODESSA — Services for John Lamar Rhodes, 77, of Odessa, are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Rhodes died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Sept. 16, 1922, in Jasper, Fla. He married
Norma Blaskey March 13, 1969, in Andrews. Mr. Rhodes had lived in Odessa since 1955. He served in the Army in Italy during World War II. He was employed with Southwest-ern Bell Telephone Company for 33 years and retired in 1982. He was a Baptist.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Edna Rhodes.
Survivors include his wife, Norma Rhodes of Odessa; son, Benny Rhodes and wife Nancy of Clyde; stepson, Glenn C. Blaskey and wife Sonya of Odessa; stepdaughter, Gayle Ali and husband Sam of Odessa; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Roland G. Foster
ODESSA — Roland G. Foster, 80, of Odessa, passed away Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Oct. 15, 1919, in Oswego, Kansas, to Lester and Mary Elizabeth Foster.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel. The Rev. Ronnie Newton will officiate and interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Foster served as a paratrooper in the Army during World War II. He graduated from Kansas State University in 1949 and received his master’s degree from Oklahoma City University in 1955. He moved to Odessa in 1968 from Tulsa, Okla. On Aug. 31, 1973, he married
Janice Foil in Odessa. He loved Mojo and Dallas Cowboys football and the Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed working on cars and attending all of his grandchildrens’ events with them.
Survivors are wife, Janice Foster of Odessa; children, Lynn Foster of Tulsa, Roxy Lakey of Austin, R.G. Foster and his wife Hope of Denver City and Rhinda Foster of Afton, Okla.; stepchildren, Vicki Vincent and husband David of Odessa, Jimmy Smallwood and wife Becky of Midlothian and Lorna Stell of Odessa; sisters, Mildred Ferch and Betty Harrington, both of Oswego; brother, Lester Foster Jr. of Coffeville, Kan.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Francis "Frank" Xavier Morris
ODESSA — Francis "Frank" Xavier Morris, 71, of Odessa, a retired welder and Navy veteran of World War II, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, in Odessa.
He was born March 12, 1929, in Everett, Mass., to Anna E. Nixon and Robert Robinson Morris. He married
Francis Mae Morris. His wife and his parents preceded him in death.
He is survived by daughters Debra Diane Morris and husband Bert and Yvonne Marie Morris and husband Tommy, all of Odessa; grandchildren Cory Morris of San Antonio, Robert LaChance, Misty McDuffee and husband Tony, Brian Morris, Lance Morris and Amber Allred, all of Odessa; sisters Mildred Benoit, Anne Stone and Ethel O’Brien, all of Massachusetts; and brother William Morris of Massachusetts.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Martinez Funeral Home with Chaplain Dick Brown officiating. Burial will be at the Ector County cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.
He was a loving father, grandfather and friend. He will be greatly missed by all of us.
Leonard McClure
SEMINOLE — Leonard McClure, 61, of Seminole, died Saturday Aug. 19, 2000, in Lubbock.
Funeral services will held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Ratliff Funeral Home Chapel with Charles Dodd, youth minister of the First Baptist Church of Midland officiating. Interment will follow at the Gaines County cemetery (South) under the direction of Ratliff Funeral Home.
Leonard was born June 7, 1939, in Shelby, Mo. He married
Alberta Kovak Feb. 2, 1974, in Houston. He had been employed by Amerada Hess Corporation as a piping design draftsman for 14 years. He and his wife moved to Seminole in 1986. He was a member of the National Institute for Engineering Technologies, which is sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers, and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Midland.
He is survived by his wife, Berti of Seminole; one son, Jerry McClure of Burlington, Iowa; one daughter, Melissa Summey of Cotulla; one brother, James McClure of Shelbina, Mo.; two sisters, Carlene Carrol and Rose Livers, both of Honeywell, Mo.; and two grandchildren, Nathan McClure and Madison Summey.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Pallbearers will be Roy McClure, Matthew Summey, Jimmy Bittle, Kenny Powell, Henry Beare and Dallas Renfrew.
Nita Gem Tripp
ODESSA — Nita departed from this life Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, in the care of Home Hospice. Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Sunset Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Dr. David Mindel will be the officiating minister.
Mrs. Tripp is survived by a daughter, Sally "Sissy" Hill and husband, Doug; a son, M.R. "Billy" Tripp Jr., and wife, Jeannie; and four grandsons, Micah and Tucker Tripp, Joshua Jones and Adam Hill.
She was preceded in death by her husband, M.R. "Bill" Tripp, and granddaughter, Lydia Osborn.
Daughter of Sam and Cecile O’Neal, Nita graduated from Pecos High School and went on to get an associate’s degree in art from Texas State College for Women at Denton. She moved to Odessa in 1935 and married
Bill Tripp April 9, 1939. She was voted First Lady of Odessa in January 1959 after having volunteered in countless organizations. Nita was also a member of First Christian Church.
Her passion was to better serve the young, old, and/or downtrodden. She was a former president of the Council of Church Women. She, along with her husband, Bill, helped establish the Chi Rho Youth Program at First Christian Church in Odessa. Nita was instrumental in getting the state juvenile probation program organized. She won statewide recognition for her work with the Texas mental hospital system where she served as chairman and advisory board member. Additional accomplishments include serving as chairman of the Voter’s Service League and helping to organize the Ector County Parks Department. At former President Eisenhower’s invitation, Nita was asked to participate at a White House conference on youth and children.
Nita will be remembered for her tenacity, determination, devotion to her family, and her spiritual conviction.
The family suggests making memorials to the charity of choice.
