W. Gerald Hyde
MIDLAND — W. Gerald Hyde was born Oct. 12, 1918, in Franklin County to William Oliver and Martha J. Reeves Hyde. He was reared and educated in Franklin County. In 1939, he married
Beatrice Hyde in San Angelo. He retired March 29, 1984, from Pylant Sign Company after 32 years of service. Mr. Hyde was a member of Crestview Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice Hyde, of Midland; sons, Guy Hyde and his wife, Yvonne, of Bozeman, Mont., and Jerry Hyde and his wife, Roberta, of Midland; grandsons, Ron Roeser and Rich Roeser, both of Chicago, Wayne Hyde of Midland and Patrick Hyde of Sugarland; granddaughters, Kerry Jeter of Abilene and Renee Wade of Hattisburg, Miss.; and nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. Hyde died Friday evening in a Midland retirement home.
Visitation with the family will be from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Ellis Funeral Home.
Services to celebrate his life are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, in Crestview Baptist Church with Dr. Larry Ashlock officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview cemetery under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Crestview Baptist Church Sunday school class.
Jane H. Ray
Jane H. Ray was born Oct. 24, 1932, in Virginia to Rush and Ella Holt. She passed away on Aug. 17, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at the Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Ernest Easley of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Holt came to Odessa 41 years ago. She married
Joe Paul Ray Oct. 31, 1955, in Martinsville, Va., he preceded her in death. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.
Jane worked as an insurance agent for the Prudential Life Insurance Company for 19 years. She won many awards over the years for her achievements there.
Survivors include her sons, Danny P. Ray and wife Kathy of Odessa, Michael D. Ray and wife Patti of Flowermound and Joe R. Ray and wife Susan of Lewisville; her brothers, Noel Holt of Patrick Springs, Va., Harry Holt of Stuart and Jay Holt of Bassett, Va.; her sisters, Pearl Blackard of Stuart, Va., Eunice Young of Bassett, Va., and Norine Buffkin and husband, Arthur, of Martinsville, Va.; seven grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Dallas Holt Hensley Pulliam of Martinsville, Va.; and a brother, Moir W. Holt, of Stuart, Va.
Family visitation will be at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00, Sunday, August 20, 2000.
Services are under the care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Del Kirksey
God, give me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can and the wisdom to know the difference.
ODESSA — Del Kirksey, 60, of Odessa, died Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2000, at his residence. He was born Dec. 8, 1939, to E.H. (Kirk) and Sara Jo Kirksey in Lamesa. He attended Midland High School and Odessa College. He served with the Navy aboard the USS Roosevelt from 1962 to 1966. He married
Sherry Luedecke May 21, 1966, in Fort Hancock. He was a retired supervisor for Huntsman, formerly Rexene, for 34 years.
Del was an avid golfer and a great friend to everybody with whom he came in contact. He loved his family and friends, especially kids and his grandson. He gave strength to everyone who knew him.
Survivors include his wife, Sherry Kirksey of Odessa; son, Sgt. Cody Del Kirksey and his wife, Shannon, of Holloman AFB, N.M.; daughter, Kelly Paige Haynie and her husband, Billy, of San Antonio; grandson, Marshall Kirksey; and sister, Nell Furgeson and her husband, Don, of Midland.
Funeral services will be 4:30 p.m Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, in the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with Rev. Gary Albe officiating. Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.
If desired, memorials may be made to Odessa Bible Church or Community Care Hospice.

James H. "Jim" Shelton
ODESSA — James H. "Jim" Shelton died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000. He was born to James M. Shelton and Alcyone Chapman March 9, 1927, in Abilene.
He was joined in holy matrimony with Lynnetta "Lynn" Tipton of Hobbs, N.M., Aug. 26, 1960. They would have celebrated forty years of marriage this month.
After graduating from Abilene High School in 1944, he joined the Navy and served his country during World War II in Hawaii. He served nine years and received an honorable discharge.
Jim attended the University of Texas in Austin and graduated in 1954 with a degree in architecture. He then accepted a position with the firm of Groos, Cliff and Ball Architecture in Odessa and later joined a partnership known as Covington, Shelton and Taylor. He then founded his own firm of Jim Shelton Architecture. Some of his designs include Ratliff Stadium, office buildings, churches and custom-designed homes. His firm’s presence still dots the Texas landscape.
Some of Jim’s acts of community service include: Chairman of the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, ambassador for two years and member for 12 years; City of Odessa Planning and Zoning Board, commissioner for nine years, vice chairman, chairman of the City of Odessa Building Code Revisions Committee; Chairman of the Ector County Park Board for two years and member for four years; chairman of the American Red Cross Board and member for seven years; Cub Scout pack master; president of the Oasis Foundation; member of American Institute of Architects; president of the West Texas Chapter of AIA; and the Texas Society of Architects.
He joined the Odessa Downtown Lions Club in 1966. He served in various offices in his local club, including president. He also served as district governor, past district governor and was serving on the board of Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville.
Beloved husband, father and grandfather, Jim is survived by his wife Lynn; four children, Sheryl Davis and husband, Mark, Sonja House and husband, Mark, Sondra Shelton and Joel SheIton and wife, Amie; and four grandchildren, Shea’ Shelton, Hayden House, Evan House and Grace Shelton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Jim’s family invites all his friends to attend the funeral service at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2000, at Second Baptist Church, 711 East 17th St., with the Revs. Bruce Troy and Mike Wright officiating.
The family suggests memorials to Texas Lion Camp, P.O. Box 290247, Kerrville, Texas, 78029, serving handicapped children.

Angie Mae Edge
ODESSA — Graveside services for Angie Mae Edge, 85, of Odessa, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Odessa cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Law officiating.
Mrs. Edge died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, in Gardendale. She was born Jan. 15, 1915, in Tipton, Okla. She married
K.C. Edge on May 13, 1932, in Texarkana. She moved to Odessa in 1943 from Whiteface. She was a homemaker and a Protestant.
Survivors include sons, Bill Edge of Odessa, Jim Edge of El Paso and Gary Edge of Odessa; daughters, Mary McWilliams of Odessa, Carol Reneau and Linda Moore both of San Angelo; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

K.C. "Jake" Edge
ODESSA — Graveside services for K.C. "Jake" Edge, 89, of Odessa, are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Odessa cemetery with the Rev. Jimmy Law officiating.
Mr. Edge died Sunday, Aug. 13, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born April 22, 1911, in Hill County. He married
Angie Mae Rutherford on May 13, 1932, in Texarkana. He moved to Odessa in 1944 from Whiteface. He was a retired automobile salesman and was presently working in the real estate development business. He enjoyed traveling. He was a Protestant.
Survivors include sons, Bill Edge of Odessa, Jim Edge of El Paso and Gary Edge of Odessa; daughters, Mary McWilliams of Odessa, Carol Reneau and Linda Moore, both of San Angelo; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Mary Lois Tapp
MORROW, ARK. — Mary Lois Tapp, 76, died Aug. 9, 2000, at her home in Odessa.
She was born in Hawley to Oscar King and Jessie Ada Phillips.
She married
Stacy D. Tapp on July 20, 1942 in San Diego, Calif. They lived and loved together for more than 31 years. They enjoyed traveling, fishing, bowling and golf. She retired from the Bank of America as manager in El Cajon, Calif., after 20 years. They moved to Kingsland to be near her sister, Irene Flood, and to care for her mother. They then moved to Gentry, Ark., in the early 1980s where they bought a farm. After Stacy’s passing, Mary moved to Buchanan Dam to be with her sister before they both moved to Odessa to live out their remaining years. She was a devoted Christian, donating to numerous charities and community churches.
Survivors include one nephew and his wife, Gaylord and Anne Flood of Weatherford, Okla.; one niece, Linda Ham and her husband, Homer, of Odessa; one great nephew, David Flood of Texas; two great nieces Stacey Plaxco and Keri Murphy both of Texas; one great-great-niece Katelyn Plaxco of Texas; cousins, Mr. and Mrs. C.M. Phillips, J. Charles Phillips and Greg Phillips, all of Nashville, Tenn.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, 2000, at Edmiston cemetery in Morrow, Ark. with the Revs. J. Charles Phillips and Greg Phillips officiating.
