James Howard Haney Jr.

SENATOBIA, Miss. - Services for James Howard Haney Jr., 58, of Odessa are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at C.O. Pate Funeral Home Chapel in Senatobia, Miss. Burial will be at Longtown cemetery in Crenshaw, Miss.

Mr. Haney died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Feb. 24, 1942, in Tunica, Miss. Mr. Haney moved to Odessa in the 1960s from Tunica. He worked as a roustabout in the oilfields. He was a Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Howard Haney Sr.

Survivors include his son, James Howard Haney Jr. of Abilene; daughters, Jamie King of Abilene and Julia Haney of Texas; brothers, Thomas Haney of Crane and Jimmy Haney of Rosharon; sisters, Louise Manley of Raleigh, N.C., Ella Westbrook of Senatobia, Mary Swan of Odessa, Betty Jo Perry of Palmetto, Fla., and Dora Lee Clark of Graham; three grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

W. Gorman Maxwell

ODESSA - Services for W. Gorman Maxwell, 80, of Odessa are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Eisenhower Church of Christ with Burt Groves officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Family and friends will be received at 5271 W. 22nd St. in Odessa.

Mr. Maxwell died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born July 24, 1920. He married Lois G. Richardson Jan. 21, 1944, in Boston, Mass. She died Jan. 20, 2000.

Mr. Maxwell was a retired real estate broker and a member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the VFW and the Eisenhower Church of Christ.

Survivors include his daughter, Donna Chapman and husband Ernie of Odessa; five grandchildren, Michael McKinzie, Amanda McKinzie, Mikki Eckel, Kim Neese and Jeff Chapman; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Troy Maxwell of Odessa; and five sisters, Ann White of Glendale, Ariz., Gwyn Gibson and Lila Barnett, both of Odessa, Evelyn Ghorley of Puyallup, Wash., and Lola Ferguson of Houston.

Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

John Leslie Preston

ODESSA - John Leslie Preston, 45 years of age, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born Sept. 20, 1955, in Farmington, N.M. He was employed by Heilig-Meyers Furniture Store as assistant warehouse manager and served in the Marine Corps. He married Omega Dilbeck Aug. 8, 1992, in Odessa.

He is survived by his wife, Omega of Odessa; stepson, Billy C. Walker Jr. of Odessa; stepdaughters, Carla Von Walker and Melrea Michele Meurer, both of Odessa; parents, G.W. "Pinky" and Wanda McDonald of Grand Prairie; stepmother, Lenora Preston of Alaska; in-laws, James and Ruby Dilbeck of Kilgore; sisters, Paula Chambers of Odessa and Dede Inahara of San Diego; stepbrother, Gerald Ervin of Odessa; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Angeles Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services are set for 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James R. Otterness officiating. Military burial will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at the Dallas-Fort Worth National cemetery.

The family wishes that memorials be made to Community Hospice located at 3641 N. Dixie Blvd., Odessa, Texas, 79762.

Gordon Lee Rawling

MONAHANS - Gordon Lee Rawling, 78, went to be with his loving wife and our Lord Monday, Dec. 11, 2000. He was born July 27, 1922, in Carsonville, Mich., to William L. and May Rawling, who preceded him in death.

Gordon was a veteran of World War II. He served in France, Germany and England. He was discharged as a tech sergeant.

While stationed in England, he married Betty Josephine Clare and enjoyed 47 years together. He made a home in Port Huron, Mich., until they moved to Monahans in 1978 and a made a permanent resident.

Gordon was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose and participated at the Ward County Senior Citizen Center by delivering Meals on Wheels and three years at the Senior Citizen Revue.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at St. James Episcopal Church with Father Robert Bonnington officiating. Military graveside services will follow at the Monahans cemetery.

Donations can be made to the Ward County Senior Citizens in his memory.

Survivors include two daughters, Bonnie K. Kittridge and Amuel Dalton of Monahans and Clara Jo Van Zandt of Weatherford; five sons, Dave L. and Helen M. Rawling, Gordon K. and Pamela B. Rawling, Robert B. Rawling, John K. Rawling and Sheron K. Stephens and Jeffery and Kelly Schulte, all of Monahans; a brother, William R. Rawling; half-sisters, Beverly Bradley, Shirley Charles, Donna Matthews, Mary Galbriath of Michigan and Rosalee Thacker of Tennessee; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mike Betancourt

ALPINE - Mike Betancourt, 39, of Alpine, a custodian for Alpine schools, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at a Midland hospital.

Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. today at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with the Rev. Rick Ruiz officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Angels cemetery. Arrangements by Geeslin Funeral Home.

He was born in Alpine. He was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Alma Betancourt of Alpine; daughters, Andrea Betancourt and Audrey Betancourt, both of Alpine; parents, Gregorio and Audelia Betancourt of Alpine; sisters, Olga Llanez, Brenda Jimenez and Anna Betancourt, all of Alpine, and Oralia Ibarra of Midland; and brothers, Sammy Ramirez and Frankie Betancourt, both of Alpine.

Jessie Carrasco Sr.

MIDLAND - Jessie Perez Carrasco Sr., 60, of Midland, an employee of Second Baptist Church of Midland, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at his residence.

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with the Rev. Jerome Burnett officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Reyes-Garcia Chapel. Burial will be at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements by Reyes-Garcia Funeral Home.

He was born in Midland. He was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Benserlada Chalada Carrasco of Midland; sons, Jessie Carrasco III of Midland and James Edward Carrasco of Las Cruces, N.M.; brother, Frank Carrasco of Midland; sisters, Delia Carrasco, Ofelia Mancha and Gloria Villa, all of Midland, and Irene Munoz of Albuquerque, N.M.; and six grandchildren.

Melda Gleason

ODESSA - Melda Agnes Gleason, 87, of San Angelo, a retired employee of J.C. Penny's Co. department store, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, at Meadow Creek Nursing Center in San Angelo.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

She was born in Mooringsport, La., and had been a resident of Odessa before moving to San Angelo. She was a member of the Christian Church.

SURVIVORS: Son, James Alton Gleason of San Angelo; daughter, Shirley Wadley of Pecos; brothers, Eugene Cogley and Johnny Cogley, both of Mooringsport; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

John Holloway

ODESSA - John Holloway, 52, of Odessa, an assembly line worker, died Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in Midland.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at Sunset Memorial Chapel with C.A. Smith and Duane Permenter officiating. Burial will be at Ector County cemetery. Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

He was born in Natchez, Miss., and was a lifelong resident of Odessa. He was a member of the Church of Christ.

SURVIVORS: Mother, Lela Holloway of Odessa; and brothers, Jerry Holloway and James Holloway, both of Odessa.
