John Rhodes

ODESSA — John Lamar Rhodes, 77, of Odessa, a retired employee of Southwestern Bell Telephone Co., died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. today at the Hubbard-Kelly Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

He was born in Jasper, Fla., and had been a resident of Odessa since 1955. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Norma Rhodes of Odessa; son, Benny Rhodes of Clyde; stepson, Glenn C. Blaskey of Odessa; stepdaughter, Gayle Ali of Odessa; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Robert Sappington

JAL, N.M. — Robert M. "Bob" Sappington, 76, of Jal, N.M., a retired employee of El Paso Natural Gas Co., died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at the Kermit Health Care Center in Kermit.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. MDT Friday at First Baptist Church with the Rev. G.A. Magee officiating. Burial will be at Jal cemetery. Arrangements by Cooper Funeral Chapel.

He was born in Lake Creek, Okla., and had been a resident of Jal for 49 years. He was a Merchant Marines veteran of World War II. He was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Lou Sappington of Jal; sons, William Fred Sappington of Big Spring and Robert Fite Sappington of Winter Haven, Fla.; daughters, Rebekah Lou Torres of Dayton, Ohio, and Alice Nell Sappington of Spade; brother, John Gerald Sappington of Amarillo; and two grandchildren.

Bobby Sewell

ODESSA — Bobby Quintin Sewell, 46, of Odessa, a roughneck, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Hubbard-Kelly Chapel with the Rev. Robert Berry officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements by Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

He was born in Monroe, La. He was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Darlene Sewell of Odessa; sons, Bobby Ray Sewell and Dusty Dewayne Sewell, both of Odessa; daughter, Christy Darlene Sewell Wooten of Odessa; brothers, James D. Sewell of Laura, Miss., Dusty Sewell of Eunice, La., William Sewell, Billy Sewell and James Sewell, all of Odessa, and Jerry Sewell of Louisiana; sisters, Donna Heathington of Odessa, Peggy Payne of South Lake and Roberta Sewell of Oklahoma City; and five grandchildren.

Ted Cousins

CLEBURNE — Ted Dickerson Cousins, 85, of Granbury, a homemaker, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, in Cleburne.

Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. today at Cleburne Memorial cemetery. Arrangements by Crosier-Pearson-Mayfield Funeral Home.

She was born in Cleburne and had been a resident of Odessa.

SURVIVOR: Sister, Rebecca Nell Dickerson of Houston.

Ramona Garcia

FORT STOCKTON — Ramona S. Garcia, 88, of Uvalde, a homemaker, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, in Santa Fe.

Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with the Rev. David Herrera officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Fort Stockton Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at St. Joseph cemetery. Arrangements by Fort Stockton Funeral Home.

She was born in Fort Stockton and had been a resident of Uvalde for two years. She was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Ramon Garcia of Fort Stockton and Jose Sosa of Odessa; daughter, Marcelina S. Newman of Uvalde; sister, Candida Navarreta of Fort Stockton; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Edgar Garrett

ODESSA — Edgar Jackson Garrett, 76, of Odessa, a retired welder, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jim Ray Brown officiating. Arrangements by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

He was born in Murdock, Ill., and had been a resident of Odessa since 1974. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Sons, Kelly Eugene Garrett of Odessa, Jackie Martin Garrett of Wilmington, N.C., and William Tillman Garrett of Danville, Ill.; daughter, Jacqueline Sue Krawczyk of Odessa; brother, Johnny Garrett of Matton, Ill.; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Francis Morris

ODESSA — Francis "Frank" Xavier Morris, 71, of Odessa, a retired welder, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, in Odessa.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Martinez Funeral Home with Dick Brown officiating. Burial will be at Ector County cemetery. Arrangements by Martinez Funeral Home.

He was born in Everett, Mass. He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

SURVIVORS: Daughters, Debra Diane Morris and Yvonne Marie Morris, both of Odessa; sisters, Mildred Benoit, Anne Stone and Ethel O’Brien, all of Massachusetts; brother, William Morris of Massachusetts; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Jesus Prieto

MARFA — Jesus Jacquez Prieto, 71, of Marfa, a retired employee of the city of Marfa, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2000, in Marfa.

Mass will be celebrated at 2 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Rick Ruiz officiating. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. today at the church. Burial will be at Merced cemetery. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.

He was born in Ruidosa and was a longtime resident of Marfa. He was Catholic.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Lilia Vasquez Prieto of Marfa; son, Joe Franco of Pecos; daughter, Rosa P. Melendez of Marfa; brother, Francisco Prieto of Fort Stockton; and sisters, Lucila Gatlan and Dominga Escajeda, both of Midland, Lupe Prieto and Ana Montferrand, both of Fort Stockton, and Juanita Magallanez of Hobbs, N.M.

Myrtle Summers

GRANDFIELD, Okla. — Myrtle Summers, 90, of Odessa, a retired sales clerk, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. today at Grandfield cemetery. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home.

She was born in Orphan, Kans., and had been a resident of Odessa since 1932. She was a member of the Christian Church.

SURVIVORS: Son, Frank Dotson of Monahans; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Mabelene Lee

ODESSA — Mabelene Lee, 78, of Odessa, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.

He was born in Hill County. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Baptist.
