Betty Beatrice ‘Bea’ McCracken
ODESSA — Betty Beatrice "Bea" McCracken, 82, of Odessa died Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Feb. 20, 1918, in Abilene and had been a resident of Odessa since 1953. She married
Zilman "Ace" McCracken June 8, 1941, in Abilene.
She worked at the Ector Theater as a cashier for 15 years and loved old movies, crossword puzzles and gospel music. She was loved by everyone and will be missed.
She contracted polio at the age of 7 and fought all her life to be independent. She had courage, strength, and faith. She was a member of the Nazarene Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ace McCracken; and grandson, Brian Rasmussen.
Survivors include her son, James McCracken and wife, Kaye of Odessa; daughter, Kathy Grandalia and husband, Sam, of Odessa; grandsons, Shannon James McCracken, Stephen McCracken and Scott Rasmussen. She is also survived by great-grandsons, Cody McCracken and Gage McCracken; and a great-granddaughter, Rilee Rasmussen.
The family will receive friends 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. James O. Otterness officiating. Arrangements by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Federico ‘Fred’ Herrera Lujan
ODESSA — Federico "Fred" Herrera Lujan, 70, died Friday, October 27, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born March 27, 1930, to Ramundo and Francisca Lujan in Marfa. His parents preceded him in death.
Mr. Lujan served in the Korean War, serving as a tank commander. He married
his wife, Otilia Martinez in Marfa on April 27, 1953. He was also a member of the Eagles Lodge.
Rosary will be said today, Sunday, October 29, 2000, at 7:00 P.M. at the Sunset Memorial Chapel. Services will be held Tuesday, October 31, 2000, at 1:00 p.m. also at Sunset Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include his wife, Otilia Martinez Lujan of Odessa; sons, Ramundo Lujan, Antonio Lujan, and Uvaldo Lujan, all of Odessa, and Frederick H. Lujan, Jr. of El Paso; daughters, Grace Lujan, Silvia McFall, Laura Lujan, Barbara Lujan and Ann Rameriz, all of Odessa; sisters, Lupe Venegas of Marfa, and Margarita Reyes of Odessa; 15 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Services are under the direction of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Melvin Free
MIDLAND — Melvin Free, 73, of Midland died Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Memorial Rehabilitation Hospital in Midland.
Memorial services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at West Park Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses with Eric Herminson officiating.
He was born in Sweetwater and had been a resident of Odessa before moving to Midland in 1985.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Jo Ayers Free of Odessa; sons, Larry Dean Free of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Tracy Lynn Free of Odessa; daughter, Marsha Villa of Pleasant Farms; brother, Doyle Free of New Deal; sister, Darlene White of Lubbock; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements are by Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Glenn W. Casey
AUSTIN — Glenn W. Casey, 82, went to be with the Lord Thursday, Nov. 23, 2000. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his family and friends.
Casey, as he was known to family and friends, was born Oct. 27, 1918, at a farm in Cherokee, Iowa. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II from Sept. 1943 to Dec. 1944. Casey was a squadron bombardier over Omaha Beach on D-Day and was discharged as a captain.
Casey moved to Odessa in the late 1940s. While in Odessa, he was an active member of the First Methodist Church and the Wesley Class. Casey was also active in many civic organizations and was president of both the Home Builders Association of Odessa and the Texas Area Home Builders Association.
Casey was known as a "straight shooter" and was well respected for his trait as a businessman. He was part owner of R&C Construction Co. with T.M. "Buddy" Hawkins. He later was owner of The Home Mart Inc. and Glenn W. Casey Construction Inc. with his business partner and good friend Dorr E. Hampton. Casey was also involved with other companies.
Some of Casey’s building ventures include First State Bank of Kermit, Sherwood Shopping Center, the gym at Permian High School, some of the girls dorms at Odessa College and helping in the construction of the McDonald Observatory in Fort Davis.
He moved to Austin in 1970. Casey continued his building career in Austin until he retired in the mid 1980s. After he retired, Casey enjoyed playing golf, reading books and giving his grandchildren and great-grandchildren golf cart rides.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Virginia Rogers Casey, three brothers and his parents.
Casey is survived by his second wife, Norma Ensi; his sister, Lois Brown; son, Pat Casey; daughter, Joyce Casey Geers; son, Steve Cranford; daughter, Julie Cranford Border; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Bethany United Methodist Church.

J.W. Padgett
ODESSA — J.W. Padgett, 66, of Odessa died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Covenant Medical Center in Lubbock.
He was born July 15, 1934, in Colorado City to Jay and Odell Padgett. He was a graduate of Loraine High School. He married
Jean Ann Hale June 5, 1954, in Midland. He was employed by Texas Electric from 1954 until his retirement in 1992. He was a member of the North Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Odessa.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 3625 W. 11th St. in Odessa with Pete Klein officiating.
SURVIVORS: Wife, Jean Ann Padgett of Odessa; daughter, Pam Recker and her husband, Pat Recker; two grandchildren, Kim Combs and Nikki Recker, all of Odessa; one brother, Tollie Padgett of El Paso; six sisters, Lillie Jo Boring of Dallas, Charla Iglehart of Fort Worth, Meredith Edwards, Honey Tarter and Marsha Drummond, all of Colorado City, and Sandra Barnfield of Lewisville.
Robert Graham Scholl
ODESSA — Services for Robert Graham Scholl, 52, of Odessa are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Jack Watkins officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Scholl died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born Sept. 7, 1948, in Allentown, Penn. He moved to Odessa in 1983 from Fort Worth. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church. He was also an accomplished drummer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Scholl in 1989.
He is survived by his mother, Mary Scholl; aunt, Marjorie Baker of Memphis, Tenn.; and cousins, Rita and Charles Evans, Tammy and Terry Crouch, Beverly and Kelly Evans and Robbie and Wayne Maass, all of Odessa.

Thenia Fern Metcalf
ODESSA — Thenia Fern Metcalf, 59, of Odessa passed away Thursday, Dec. 21, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Thenia was born May 7, 1941, in Brownfield to Luther and Lois Hardgrave. She attended schools in Dimmitt. On March 26, 1957, she married
Wayne Metcalf in Dimmitt. Wayne retired from the military, and they moved to Odessa in 1977. She was the owner of Barbara’s Fashions and Little Duds. They were members of the Odessa Country Club.
Thenia, known as NeeNee by her grandkids, was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with Roy Smalling of Sixth and Jackson Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Wayne Metcalf of Odessa; her sons, Nicky of Odessa, Kevin of Clarksville, Ark., Jeff and his wife Tonjua of Odessa and Lance and his wife Angela of Waco; daughters, Lori Brown and husband Paul of Duncan, Okla., and Vanessa Tucker and husband Keith of Odessa; a sister, Bessie Merrill of Lamesa; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services are under the care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Houston Branam
MONAHANS — Houston Branam of Monahans went to be with our Lord on Friday, Dec. 15. He died at home after a lengthy iIlness. Houston was 68 years old, born in Camp, Ark. on April 28, 1932. At the age of 4, he moved to Crane with his family. The family then moved to Monahans in 1941.
Services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2000, at First Baptist Church of Monahans with the Rev. Gene Tone officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jeff Box.
Houston graduated from Monahans High School in 1951 and served in the Air Force from 1952 until 1956. He married
his high school sweetheart, Sue Zimmerman, on June 14, 1954, at First Baptist Church in Monahans. He began work for Richardson & Bass in 1956, then worked for 30 years for Sinclair Oil & Gas, which evolved into ARCO Oil & Gas. He was retired from ARCO at the time of his death.
Houston was actively involved in the Monahans-Wickett-Pyote lndependent School District. He served on the Monahans-Wickett-Pyote School Board for three years and also served on the Monahans Appraisal District Board of Directors for four years. He loved the Loboes and was a member of the Booster Club for many years. In 1982, Houston was named Booster of the Year.
Houston was a member of First Baptist Church of Monahans for 57 years. He actively supported his church, serving as an usher for many years and as a preschool Sunday school teacher for 15 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Minnie Branam, and a brother, Curtis.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Suzanne Bloodworth and her husband, Marty, of Midland and Dianne Solum and her husband, Matthew, of Spokane, Wash. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Brent Bloodworth of Lubbock, Alaina, Lindsey and Lara Bloodworth of Midland and Kristi and Nicole Solum of Spokane, Wash.; two sisters, Faye Capps of Jal, N.M., and Helen Jordan of Monahans.
Pallbearers will be Gloyd Walsh, Leonard Perryman, Kenneth Reamy, James Ward, Joe Montez, David Cutbirth, Jerry Larned, Connie Bean and Henry Ridings. Honorary pallbearers will be Waylan Martin and current and former Lobo coaches, Larry Hannah, Mickey Mitchell, Doug Roark, Bren Holland, Gary Gaines and Maurice Hodges.
Services will be conducted by Harkey Funeral Home of Monahans.
