Verna Foster Davidson
ODESSA — Verna Foster Davidson was born in the Buckhorn Community in Frio County, Texas, Nov. 22, 1916, to T.W. and Annie Foster.
She graduated from Pearsall High School and attended Texas Woman’s University for two years. Later she taught grade school in the Divot Community of Frio County for two years.
Verna married
Duval A. "Dave" Davidson Jr. Oct. 6, 1940, in Pearsall. She is survived by her husband, Dave, of Odessa; one son, William F. Davidson of Seattle; one daughter, Mary Ann Andrews of Raleigh, N.C.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Verna was active in Methodist women’s groups and was a frequent volunteer for community services.
Verna and Dave celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Oct. 6, 2000. She passed away one month later, Nov. 5, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kathryn Strempke officiating. Burial will be at 9 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Gardens cemetery in Edna, Texas.
The family suggests memorials to Asbury United Methodist Church to benefit the Children’s Clothes Closet.

Karl "Pete" Giggy
MIDLAND — Karl "Pete" Giggy passed away Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, in Houston. He was born Aug. 19, 1912, in Burrton, Kansas, to Alonzo Burton Giggy and Carra Gertrude Hamma Giggy.
He graduated from Burrton High School and attended Wichita University. On January 6, 1937, he married
Ruth Loomis in Lyons, Kansas. They lived in Stafford, Kansas; Nacona, Texas; Wichita, Kansas; Kermit, Texas; and Alice, Texas, before moving to Midland in 1956. He had been a resident of the Pinehaven Alzheimer’s Community in Houston for the last three years. He was a member of the Partners Sunday School Class and the First Baptist Church in Midland. He was a member of the Acacia Masonic Lodge No. 1414 of Midland, Suez Shrine Temple of El Paso, the Scottish Rite of San Angelo and Midland Scottish Rite.
Karl began his career as an oilfield driller. During World War II, he worked for Boeing Aircraft in Wichita. After the war, he became the district manager of the Chicago Pneumatic Tool Company in Kermit, Alice and Midland. Later he was a sales representative for EMCO Machine Works and Slough Equipment Company, both of Odessa. His favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing and being outdoors. He and his wife Ruth enjoyed many years of traveling with the Wally Bynum Airstream Travel Club of which he was a past president of the West Texas Unit.
Karl was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruth of 60 years; two brothers, Keith Giggy of Wichita and Kenneth Giggy of Newton, Kansas; four sisters, Burnice Ragland of Newton, Wilda Dunn of Burrton, Genevieve McElwain of Blackwell, Okla., and Elizabeth Armstrong of Derby, Kans.
He is survived by two daughters, Carole Sue Burns of El Paso and Phyllis Jo Dennis of Houston; a brother, Gordon Giggy of Woodstock, Ga.; a sister, Jean Shaft of Burrton; five grandchildren, Scott Eschenbrenner of Las Cruces, N.M., Tami Swingler of Austin, Chelsey Hall of Carrollton, Paige Dennis and Jared Dennis, both of Houston; five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Resthaven Memorial Park. Memorial services will follow at 1 p.m. at the chapel of First Baptist Church.
Those who so desire may make contributions in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association or to a charity of their choice.
Wilma Beatrice Brumfield
ODESSA — Services for Wilma Beatrice Brumfield, 77, of Arlington are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Hubbard Kelly Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Thomason officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Brumfield died Sunday, Nov. 5, 2000, at the Arlington Memorial Hospital in Arlington after a lengthy illness. She was born July 13, 1923, in Loco. She married
J.M. "Buddy" Brumfield in July 1942 in Rotan. He died Feb. 3, 1978.
Mrs. Brumfield lived in Odessa from 1950 until 1988 when she moved to Arlington. She was a longtime member of Temple Baptist Church. She was an active bridge player and attained the status of life master in 1978.
Survivors include her son, Ron Brumfield of Arlington; sister, Jo Smith of Odessa; brothers, Wayland Davis of Arlington and Bob Davis of Bedford; three grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society.

Vance G. 'Greg' Cline
ROSENBERG — Vance G. "Greg" Cline of Needville passed away Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
Services were held Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Angeles Funeral Home with the Rev. Harvey Abke officiating. Burial was at Davis Greenlawn cemetery in Rosenberg.
Greg was born in Big Spring on Jan. 30, 1959. He was raised in Odessa and attended Odessa High School. He graduated in 1977 from Odessa High School. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Midway. After returning to Odessa he met and married
his wife, Lynn.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn; daughter, Kimi, of Needville; son, Tony, and his wife, Teresa, of Houston; parents, Jackie and Joyce Lepard of Odessa and V.R. Cline of Needville; sister, Durinda Cosper and her husband, Jim, of Dallas; and brother, Mike Lepard of Odessa.
Greg leaves behind many loving family members and friends. He will be greatly missed!

Louise M. "Nana" Day
DALLAS — Louise M. "Nana" Day, 77, of Dallas, formerly of Odessa, died Sunday, Dec. 17, 2000, peacefully at her residence.
Graveside s)ervices will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 21, at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa. Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 28, at Northpark Presbyterian Church in Dallas.
Mrs. Day retired from Southwestern Bell. She was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Rochester, and her parents, John C. and Mamie Carnivix Monk.
Survivors include her daughter, Anne A. Brothers; grandchildren, Bill Anderson and wife, Carol, Thomas Anderson, and Suzanne Spurgin; great-grandchildren, Kathlyn Anderson, William and Sheldon Spurgin; sister, Flora Beekman; brother, Charles Monk; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Rochester.

Rev. R.E. Norman
ODESSA — Services for the Rev. R.E. Norman, 92, of Odessa are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the First Assembly of God with the Rev. Paul Thompson officiating.
Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Rev. Norman died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Medical Center Hospital. He was born July 17, 1908, in Scurry County.
Rev. Norman came to Odessa in 1950. He was owner and operator of Norman Trucking for many years. He was a member of the First Assembly of God, where he was recently awarded a 50-year pin. He enjoyed fishing and was known to many as "Preacher."
Survivors include his wife, Letty Norman of Odessa; son, Billy Ray Norman of Odessa; daughter, La Vaughn Ross of Odessa; brothers, Jessie Norman of Bakersfield, Calif., and W.H. Norman of Breckenridge, Calif.; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, and very dear friends, Rev. & Mrs. S.J. Lawson of Denton.

Thelma Leola Smith
ODESSA — Graveside services for Thelma Leola Smith, 82, of Odessa are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at Sunset Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Johnny Thomason officiating.
Mrs. Smith died Monday, Dec. 18, 2000, at Avalon Place. She was born May 23, 1918, in Pontotoc, Okla. She married
William James Smith on April 11, 1937, in Stonewall, Okla. Her husband, William James Smith, preceded her in death.
Mrs. Smith came to Odessa 22 years ago from Ada, Okla. She was a retired nurse and a member of Temple Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons, Phillip Smith of Conroe and Dennis Smith of Ada; daughters, Judy Walters of Conroe and Mary Moreno of Odessa; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Thelma Shepperd
ODESSA — Thelma "Nonnie" Shepperd went to be with the Lord she trusted and loved so dearly Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, in Odessa, where she had lived for over 50 years.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. today, Dec. 6, 2000, at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors Chapel.
She was born Aug. 30, 1919, to Jess and Mary Cunningham Wheat in Eastland County and was married
to Frank R. Shepperd from April 21, 1939, until his death in 1995.
Also preceding her in death were her parents, her daughter, Barbara Shepperd Drennan and her brothers, Charles, Royce, Dale and Finis Wheat.
She is survived by her son, Darrell Shepperd of Magnolia; her daughter and son-in-law, Vickey and Manning Banks of Midland; her sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Jack Herrington of Salado; her brother and sister-in-law, John and Nell Wheat of Grand Saline; her brother, Lee Wheat of Ranger; and several precious and beloved sisters-in-law. Nonnie’s grandchildren are Bethany and Dan LeRoy of Midland, Stephany and Jay Gaines of Lubbock, TyAnna Savell and Karen Drennan of Weir and Richard Drennan of Humble. The greatest joy in Nonnie’s life was sharing stories of the three "smartest great-grandchildren in the world," Camron Savell, Madison LeRoy and Parker LeRoy. She will also live in the heart of many special and cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.For 18 years, she managed a substation for Troy Laundry and Cleaners, which later became the Odessa Laundry and Cleaners. Through the years, many benefited from her generosity as she opened her home to those in need. Nonnie had an iron will and a heart of gold, and she leaves a heritage of love, laughter and music.
Her family thanks all of those who enriched her life and gave comfort and support during her illness and passing. May God bless each of you.
