Julia Maywald
ODESSA - Julia Evelyn Maywald, 89, of Odessa passed away Sunday, March 25, 2001, at Deerings Nursing Home. She was born the youngest of 13 children July 21, 1911, in Lometa to Will and Ethel Spruill.
She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and a strong supporter and member of the Ector County ARC.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Maywald, and son, Benny Frank Maywald.
She is survived by a sister, Ethel Williams of Alpine; numerous nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2001, at Rose Hill cemetery with the Rev. Bill Cook officiating.
The family will greet friends from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

William ‘Bill’ A. Bramley
ODESSA - William "Bill" A. Bramley, age 67, of Odessa died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at his residence. He was born Aug. 7, 1933, in Cleveland, Ohio, to George and Ruth Bramley.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 2, 2001, at First United Methodist Church with the Revs. Steve Trout and Bill Heggemeier officiating. Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Bill married
Kay Borden on Aug. 28, 1954, in Abilene. He served in the U.S. Army and then moved to Odessa in 1981. He had been employed by Interfirst Bank in Odessa and then at Midland American Bank in Midland. After retirement, he was an active volunteer and docent with Confederate Air Force and active member of First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Kay Borden Bramley of Odessa; sons, William Dale Bramley of San Francisco, Calif., and Douglas B. Bramley and wife Melissa of Midland; grandchildren, Joseph Douglas and Kathryn Ruth Bramley of Midland; mother-in-law, Kathryn Borden of Odessa; and brother, Bruce G. Bramley and wife Marilyn of Georgetown.

W.H. ‘Bill’ Machen
ODESSA - W.H. "Bill" Machen, 79, of Odessa passed away Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital after a short illness.
He was born to William Henry Machen and Ella Hope Cowsar on Dec. 29, 1921, in Munday. He was a resident of Odessa since 1952 and retired from Montgomery Trucking as a shop foreman.
He served in the U.S. Army, Troop A 5th Cavalry, from 1944 to 1946. He fought in the Philippines liberation at the Luzon campaign in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He received the Bronze Star, the good conduct medal and combat infantryman badge as well as the victory medal.
Bill was a member of Friendship Mason Lodge No. 1385 and a lifetime member of the VFW Paul G. Mahoney No. 4372 where he previously served in the Honor Guard.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Meeks; granddaughter, Lesa Drennon; and first wife, Earlene Machen.
Survivors include his wife, Jean Machen of Odessa; sons, Willard Machen of Devine, Bobby Machen of Grand Prairie and Don Machen of Odessa; a brother, Tom Machen of Snyder; stepchildren, Louise Griggs, Barbara Roberts, John Sisk Jr. and Charles Prine; as well as seven grandsons; nine granddaughters; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2001, at the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.

Ola Mae Allen
ODESSA - Ola Mae Allen, 85, of Glen Rose passed away Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Glen Rose Medical Center. She was born Sept. 8, 1915. She was a homemaker and a member of Belmont Baptist Church.
Survivors are her son, Stephen Allen of Granbury; sisters, Edith Ward and Mary Inez Harmon, both of Odessa; and a granddaughter, Megan Rose Turner of Canyon.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today, March 1, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rex Clayton officiating. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.

Melinda Garcia Ortiz
ODESSA - Melinda "Tia Titi" Garcia Ortiz, 40, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at her home to be with the Lord after a lengthy illness. She was surrounded by her family.
Melinda was born April 2, 1960, in Odessa to Ceferino Sr. and Eva Garcia. She attended Odessa public schools and graduated from Ector High School in 1978.
Viewing will be from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. today and from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Saturday at Martinez Funeral Home. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.
She is survived by her parents; two sons, Pedro Ortiz Jr. and wife Becky and Joe Michael Ortiz, both of Odessa; a daughter, Sonya Ortiz of Odessa; sisters, Mary Ann Rodriguez and husband Ruben and Nelda McGuire and husband David; brothers, Charlie Garcia and wife Linda, Ceferino "Billy" Garcia Jr. and Joe Garcia, all of Odessa; nieces and nephews, Myra Uballe, husband Santos IV and their two children Santos V "Bubba" and Caitlin, J.R., Marcus and Steven Rodriguez, Roxanne and Brianne McGuire and Laura Garcia, all of Odessa, Toni Dela Torre and husband Jaime and their son Alejandro of Houston and Matthew Garcia of Albany, Ga.
Pallbearers will be her sons and nephews and also her special friends, Alfredo Herrera, Ivan Sanchez, Jesse Vogt and Pablo Jimenez. Honorary pallbearers will be her brothers-in-law.

Carole Ann Hay
ODESSA - Carole Ann Hay, 58, of Odessa died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at Hospice House in Odessa. She was born Jan. 28, 1942, in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. She married
Murray Hay on July 1, 1966, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Mrs. Hay came to Odessa in 1984 from Kansas. She was a member of Sunset Heights Baptist Church, where she taught the two- and three-year-old class. She was a troop leader for Buttercup Girl Scout Troop No. 478 and was active in VIPs and PTA at Pease Elementary School. She volunteered with Mission Odessa and was employed by St. John’s Episcopal School.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2001, at Sunset Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Jess Little officiating.
Survivors include: Husband, Murray Hay of Odessa; daughters, Maruella Smitke of Taber, Alberta, Canada, and Pamela Enders of Kelowna, British Columbia; sons, Jarred Hay of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and Murray Hay Jr. of Taber; brothers, Robert Cragg and Edward Cragg, both of Calgary; sisters, Joyce Norris and Fern Cragg, both of Calgary, and Francine Cragg of Edmonton; and five grandchildren.
Floral tributes should be delivered to Sunset Heights Baptist Church and if desired, memorials may be made to Hospice House.

Victoria Lee Forsythe Grimes
ODESSA - Victoria Lee Forsythe Grimes, age 43, of Odessa died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. She was born July 16, 1957, in Fort Benning, Ga., to David and Elsie Forsythe.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Cheryl Homsher officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will be receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Victoria had lived in eastern Pennsylvania, Ethiopia, Fort Benning, Ga., and Fort Ord, Calif., settling in Odessa in 1974. She graduated from Permian High School in 1975, attended Texas Tech, graduated with a bachelor of arts in English and art at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and earned a master’s in education and counseling from Sul Ross University. She married
Jesse Taylor Grimes IV Jan. 9, 1982, in Summerfield. They raised their family in Odessa. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was an art teacher at Crockett Junior High and then was a counselor at Bonham and Nimitz Junior Highs and Ross Elementary.
She loved art and life. She was a loving, devoted sister, daughter and mother to her daughters. She became a compassionate caregiver to others with cancer. She was a great friend to all that knew her. She will be missed by all.
She is survived by her daughters, Tiffany and Taylor Grimes of Odessa; parents, LTC. David and Janice Forsythe of Odessa; and sister, Belle Routh Hicks and her husband, Pete Hicks, and their children, Tara and David Routh, all of Odessa.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Doris Pierce Alford
BROWNWOOD - Funeral services for Doris Pierce Alford, 74, of Gardendale, formerly of Brownwood, were at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 11, 2001, at the Davis-Morris Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Leslie officiating. Interment followed at Greenleaf cemetery.
She passed away March 8, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born Nov. 18, 1926, in Milam County. She married
Roy C. Alford Aug. 3, 1979, in Rankin. She was a homemaker and previously worked at Texas Feathers in Brownwood for many years and retired from Texas Instruments in Odessa. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She had lived in Gardendale for 18 years.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Arthur Pierce Jr. in 1976, three sisters and six brothers.
She is survived by her husband, Roy C. Alford of Gardendale; two daughters, Earline Lawler and husband Ronnie of Pflugerville and Elsie Peck and husband James of Gardendale; a son, Richard L. "Ricky" Pierce and wife Ruth of Brownwood; a brother, Cecil Hill of Illinois; six grandchildren, Steven Dodd, Johnny Dodd, Allen Dodd, Travis Pierce, Rikki Lynne Butts and Cole Lawler; a stepson, Randy Alford and wife Casey of Gardendale; a stepdaughter, Maricia Dowden of Granbury; nine step grandchildren, Leslie and Jamie Ford, Robin Morris, Justin, Josh, Cody and Kassi Alford, Jason Peck and Tammy Gonzales; 11 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
