Ralph ‘Curley’ Sandell
ODESSA - Ralph "Curley" Sandell Sr., 92, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at his home in Odessa.
He was born Feb. 4, 1909, in Hornbech, La. He moved to Chicago in 1929 where he met and married
Mary Malichuk in 1933. She preceded him in death in 1995.
He moved to Pyote in 1949. He served as a deacon at Pyote Baptist Church for 34 years, and he also served several years on the school board of Pyote Independent School District.
He owned and operated a service station in Pyote until he retired. He loved to fish and do garage sales.
He was a member of Sunset Heights Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Ricki Dean Sandell, Mike Ralston, Jack Shelton, Billy Grooms, Dwight Mayo and David Hampton.
He is survived by his wife of five years, Lenora; a daughter, Loretta Wood of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son, Ralph Sandell Jr. of Odessa; two stepsons, Jerry Harris of Mexico and Jim Harris of Odessa; three grandchildren, Richard Smith of Tijeras, N.M., Rebecca Sue Meek of Dallas and Tami Hampton of Amarillo; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, March 14, 2001, at Sunset Heights Baptist Church, 2401 W. 16th St. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests donations to Home Hospice.
Alice Womack
ODESSA - Alice Womack was born June 10, 1928, in Bell County. She passed away Sunday, March 11, 2001, at approximately 2 p.m. at Medical Center Hospital after a sudden illness.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. today, March 14, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Sam Jordan officiating. A private interment will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa.
Alice was married
Sept. 29, 1955, to Glen Womack in Lovington, N.M., and had been a resident of Odessa since that time. Alice and her husband were the owners of Permian Tank and Manufacturing, which they established in 1975.
Alice is survived by her husband, Glen of Odessa; a daughter, Cheryl Womack of Odessa; a son, Kelly Womack of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Betty Corbett of Fort Worth; a half brother, Mark Peteete of New Braunfels; and three grandchildren, Justen, Austen and Britten Womack of Jacksonville.
Glen, Cheryl, Kelly and Betty wish to thank all of their friends for the love, kindness, sympathy and understanding during this time of heartbreak and sadness.
The family suggests contributions to a charity of choice in lieu of flowers.
Eva Navarrette Nunez
ODESSA - Eva Navarrette Nunez passed away Monday, March 12, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.
Eva was born Feb. 4, 1943, in Malaga, N.M., to Marcelo and Conrada Navarrette Sr., who preceded her in death. She married
Jose Z. Nunez Aug. 22, 1958.
She is survived by her husband, Jose Z. Nunez, and her children, Dorothy and her husband Nestor Baeza and her children Christopher, David and Cathy Nunez, Barney and his wife Irene Nunez and children Jennifer and Nikki Nunez; Dimitri and his wife Delma and their children Michael, Regina Aguilera and Paul-Matthew Nunez. She had two great-grandchildren, Christopher Jacob Nunez and Jerry Emmanuel Sanchez Jr., all of Odessa. She is also survived by her sisters, Jesusita Graziano and Elidia Florez of Carlsbad, N.M., and Erminia Chavez of Midland, and her brothers, Elias Navarrette, Marcelo Navarrette Jr. and Joe Navarrette, all of Carlsbad.
Mother Eva had the strongest faith in God, and it showed in everything she did. Mother was a devout Catholic, great cook, loving, patient, kind, compassionate, caring, and she loved her husband, children, family and friends, all unconditionally.
Mother was past president of the Order of the Carmelites, Spanish coordinator and teacher of RCIA at St. Joseph, lay ministry and base communities and lector. She helped daily at the south side parish office when her health permitted.
She wrote spiritual poetry, and she would share her poetry at Mass and anywhere and anytime. She was a great translator for Spanish and English.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2001, at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Odessa Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Rose Hill cemetery.
She will be missed by all.
Lucille Blount
ODESSA - Lucille Blount, 84, of Odessa passed away the morning of Feb. 2, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.
Lucille was born Sally Lucille Williams on Feb. 29, 1916, in Avery as the second of two children to Mary Marshall and Thomas Irvin Williams. Lucille obtained her bachelor’s degree in 1939 and then devoted her life to elementary education. She married
Otho Blount in 1941, and they had a child, Beverly. Lucille taught elementary school at Gonzales Elementary in Odessa until her retirement in 1980. Lucille was an active member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Odessa, Texas Retired Teacher’s Association and many other community organizations. She greatly enjoyed being with her friends and family and was a great source of joy for all of us. We will miss her dearly.
Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Otho Blount; her daughter, Beverly Steppe; and her brother, Rhea Williams.
She is survived by her sister-in-law, Charlene Williams; son-in-law, Ken Steppe; grandchildren, Lesley Reese, Erin Steppe and Andy Steppe; and three great-grandchildren, Alyssa Reese, Samuel Reese and Kyle Steppe.
A memorial service for all friends and family will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church. A reception will follow.
Memorial contributions can be made to the St. Barnabas Episcopal Church New Building Fund.

Earl K. Knight
CRANE - Earl K. Knight departed this life Jan. 31, 2001, after a long, hard battle with heart disease.
His life began Nov. 16, 1928, in Jacksboro. He was the second of five sons born to Roy L. Knight and Chattie Leona Jamison Knight. He attended public schools in Jacksboro and graduated from high school in 1945. He enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps when he was 17-years-old. After discharge, he returned to the work force, but was called back to active duty during the Korean Conflict. After his second discharge, he moved to Odessa and was employed by Totco Oil Tools for seven years in Odessa and Farmington, N.M. During the 1960s, he owned and operated several businesses in Odessa with his last employer being Basin Machine and Manufacturing.
He married
Mary Ann Howell on Oct. 25, 1975, and they lived in Crane until 1993. After living in San Angelo for a year and Midland for a year, they moved back to Odessa in 1996. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Knight of Odessa; daughters, Laura Corinne King of Garland and Theresa Elaine Knight of Bryan; stepson, Kenneth Wayne Howell of San Antonio; stepdaughter, Helen Marie Kashiwa of Pomona, N.Y.; mother, Chattie Leona Knight of Jacksboro; brothers, Roy L. Knight Jr. of Graham and Leonard Wayne Knight of Jacksboro; and five grandchildren, Kevin Kennedy and Kirk Kennedy of Garland, Christina Marie Knight of Bryan, Alyssa Kashiwa and Patrick Kashiwa of Pomona. His father, Roy L. Knight and two brothers, Francis Knight and Robert Knight, predeceased him. He is also survived by a host of friends who will miss his special sense of humor and rugged individualism.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 3, 2001, at the Crane County cemetery on Highway 385 with Paul M. Smith officiating.

Sam L. Oates
ODESSA - Sam L. Oates, 44, of Odessa died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at his residence. He was born July 30, 1956, in Odessa.
He was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and attended St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church. He was a 1974 graduate of Permian High School, attended Texas Tech University and graduated from Ron Bailey School of Broadcasting.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 3, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Survivors are his wife, Janet Oates; sons, Nikolas and Kristopher; daughter, Samantha Oates, all of Odessa; sister, Susie Wheaton and husband Don of Arlington; and parents, C.W. and Gay Oates of Odessa.
Arrangements were handled by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
Charles E. Warnock
Judge Charles E. Warnock, 77, of Odessa, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2001, at a local hospital. Judge Warnock was born Feb. 2, 1924, in San Angelo, Texas.
Judge Warnock enlisted in the U.S. Army after graduating from Pecos High School. He served in five major battle campaigns during World War II in the European and Pacific theaters. He was Chief Demolition Officer with the Seventh Engineer Combat Battalion of Gen. George S. Patton’s Third Army.
Judge Warnock attended Texas Tech University and was an auto dealer for 28 years. He bought his first car dealership, Warnock Motor Company, the Ford dealership, in Van Horn. He later acquired the Ford dealership in Alamogordo, New Mexico, and the General Motors Dealership in Fort Stockton.
"Judge," as he is often called, had been a longtime resident of Fort Stockton, where he served as a City Councilman in Van Horn, 12 years as Pecos County Judge, 12 years as the Chair of the Pecos County Red Cross and Chairman of the Permian Regional Planning Commission in Odessa.
One of his accomplishments was the building and furnishing of a new, modern public library and he took great pride in serving the people of Pecos County as their County Judge.
Judge was a 50-year member of the Culberson Masonic Lodge No. 1232 in Van Horn, the Fort Stockton Masonic Lodge No. 1022 in Fort Stockton, Scottish Rite and the El Maida Shrine Temple in El Paso. He was a member of the Odessa Shrine Club. He was a life member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion. He had been a Rotarian for more than 50 years, a Paul Harris Fellow and a member of the Odessa Rotary Club.
Judge and Bettye were married
on Dec. 9, 1971, in Fort Stockton. They moved to Odessa in 1994 and were faithful members of First United Methodist Church.
Judge was active in the Odessa Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors since moving to Odessa. He was a member of the Permian Basin Genealogical Society, the Friday and Thursday Duplicate Bridge Clubs, a past member of the Allison cancer Wing of the Midland Memorial Hospital, Hospital Board Member and a volunteer fundraiser for many organizations.
Judge enjoyed genealogy, playing bridge, reading and community service. He will be remembered as a dedicated servant to his community, nation and fellow man.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wilie L. and Gertrude Lawhon Warnock, and one sister, Jean Finley.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Bettye Warnock of Odessa; two stepsons, Michael Beck of Aguilar, Colo., and Buddy Beck of Kirbyville, Texas; a sister, Patricia Warnock Eden of Boston, Mass.; and many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Public visitation will be held from 1 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in the Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001, in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve trout and Rev. Bill Heggemeir officiating. Military and Masonic graveside services are scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Fairmount cemetery, San Angelo, Texas, under the direction of Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
Honorary Pallbearers will be the Odessa Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and the Odessa Rotary Club.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First United Methodist Church, Memorial Fund, 415 N. Lee, Odessa, Texas, 79761.
