Marie Reeder Watson
MONAHANS - The Lord opened the doors to heaven Monday, March 12, 2001, for Marie Watson who was a resident of Monahans for 59 years. On March 13, 1914, she was born to Charlie Blackshear Reeder and Pearle Norman Reeder in Loraine, where she graduated from high school. After attending the University of Texas, she taught school for two years and then married
C.M. Watson of Colorado City, and two years later they had their first daughter, Pat. In 1942, they both graduated from Abilene Christian College, had their second daughter, Kay, and moved to Monahans where they both taught school. In 1952, their third daughter, Kim, was born. Havng taught 36 years, Mrs. Watson retired in 1976, after touching the lives of over 1,500 students with her great love and strong influence.
At the age of nine, she gave her life to Jesus. After moving to Monahans, she joined First Baptist Church where she had taught Sunday School for many years, but some of her best work for the Lord had been done anonymously. She will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. Death will be but a separation for those whose destination is heaven. As Jesus said, "Let not your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Heavenly Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and take you home with Me so you’ll be where I am." This passage in John 14:1-3 was marked by Mrs. Watson in her Bible.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, her sister Ruth, her brother Charles and a niece.
She is survived by daughter, Pat Henry and son-in-law Johnny of Ennis; daughter, Dr. Kay Watson of Monahans; daughter, Kim Foster and son-in-law Ed of Norman, Okla.; grandchildren, Terri Fielding of Austin, Shana Fielding Skeans and husband Bill of Cedar Hill, Neal, Charles, Dow, John and Gillian Watson Foster of Norman; and three great-grandchildren, Sara Mershawn, Kathryn Polk and Amanda Skeans of Cedar Hill. She is also survived by two brothers and their wives, Joe and Avyce Reeder of Ruidoso, N.M., and Jack and Pam Reeder of Green Valley, Ariz.; sister-in-law, Marian Reeder of Midland; and eight nieces and nephews and their families.
After a private burial at Monahans Memorial cemetery, a celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 13, 2001, at First Baptist Church of Monahans.
Memorials may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, Community Care Hospice or the charity of choice.
Alice Womack
ODESSA - Alice Womack was born June 10, 1928, in Bell County. She passed away Sunday, March 11, 2001, at approximately 2 p.m. at Medical Center Hospital after a sudden illness.
Services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Sam Jordan officiating. A private interment will be held at Resthaven Memorial Park in Midland.
Alice was married
Sept. 29, 1955, to Glen Womack in Lovington, N.M., and had been a resident of Odessa since that time. Alice and her husband were the owners of Permian Tank and Manufacturing, which they established in 1975.
Alice is survived by her husband, Glen of Odessa; a daughter, Cheryl Womack of Odessa; a son, Kelly Womack of Jacksonville, Fla.; a sister, Betty Corbett of Fort Worth; a half brother, Mark Peteete of New Braunfels; and three grandchildren, Justen, Austen and Britten Womack of Jacksonville.
Glen, Cheryl, Kelly and Betty wish to thank all of their friends for the love, kindness, sympathy and understanding during this time of heartbreak and sadness.
The family suggests contributions to a charity of choice in lieu of flowers.
Lola Virginia Simmons Blount
ODESSA - Lola Virginia Simmons Blount, age 95, of Odessa passed away Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Hospice House.
She resided in Odessa for 75 years and was a member of First Baptist Church for over 50 years. Mrs. Blount was born Dec. 9, 1905, in Arkansas. She married
William T. Blount on Jan. 5, 1925, in Edna. He preceded her in death April 6, 1970. Her daughter, Reba, also preceded her in death in April 1939.
She is survived by a son, Eldon Blount Sr.; three grandchildren, Virginia Ruth Cotton and husband Ted, Eldon Blount Jr. and wife Bonnie and Carolyn Jean Berger and husband Scott; seven great-grandchildren, Christy Cotton Santos and husband Dominic, Jana Kaye Cotton Marlar and husband Josh, David Blount, Steven Bracken and wife Amy, James Bracken and wife Tracy, Brandon Berger and Jason Berger; two great-great-grandchildren, Britney and Chris; and four sisters and one brother.
Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Monday, March 12, 2001, at Ector County/Odessa cemetery with Dr. Ernest Easley officiating.
Honorary pallbearers were Brandon Berger, David Blount, Dominic Santos, Josh Marlar, James Bracken and Steven Bracken.

Ralph ‘Curley’ Sandell
ODESSA - Ralph "Curley" Sandell Sr., 92, died Monday, March 12, 2001, at his home in Odessa.
He was born Feb. 4, 1909, in Hornbech, La. He moved to Chicago in 1929 where he met and married
Mary Malichuk in 1933. She preceded him in death in 1995. He moved to Pyote in 1949. He served as deacon at Pyote Baptist Church for 34 years, and he also served several years on the school board of Pyote Independent School District. He owned and operated a service station in Pyote until he retired. He loved to fish and do garage sales. He was a member of Sunset Heights Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Richy Dean Sandell, Mike Ralston, Jack Shelton, Billy Grooms, Dwight Mayo and David Hampton.
He is survived by his wife of five years, Lenora; a daughter, Loretta Word of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son, Ralph Sandell Jr. of Odessa; two stepsons, Jerry Harris of Mexico and Jim Harris of Odessa; three grandchildren, Richard Smith of Tijeras, N.M., Rebecca Sue Meek of Dallas and Tami Hampton of Amarillo; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 14, 2001, at Sunset Heights Baptist Church, 2401 W. 16th St. Burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family suggests donations to Home Hospice.
Gladys E. Dorsett
ODESSA - In loving memory of Gladys E. Dorsett of Odessa, who blessed this world with her presence Aug. 26, 1921.
After 79 beautiful years of loving companionship and friendship with those who were fortunate enough to have known her, she left this world to live in Jesus’ Kingdom Saturday, March 10, 2001, where she will reunite with her lifelong love of 52 and a half years, M.H. Dorsett. She was a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church. She worked in the nursery for many years.
She will be truly missed by her surviving family, a daughter, Betty D. Butts; two sons, Kenneth H. Dorsett and wife, Linda, and Danny C. Dorsett and wife, Betty Lou; eight grandchildren, Jami Butts, Missie Butts, Elizabeth Beaty and husband, Brannon, Vanessa Johnson and husband, Charles, Matthew and Amanda Dorsett, Tammy Joy and husband, Ron, and Peggy Johns and husband, Steve. She also left behind 10 great-grandchildren, Sara Broussard, Jade and Kristina Butts, Noah Johnson, Curtis and Evan Beaty, Kerini and Kara Joy, and Hunter and Hali Johns.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today, March 13, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel. Officiating will be Brother Jimmy Dennis of Agape Ministries with assistance from Brother Danny Willis of Terrace Hills Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The pallbearers will be Jim Butts, James Mize, Terry Vaughn, Ricky Reyes, Matthew Dorsett, Pete Blanchard and Steve Johns.
Services are in the care of Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.
Victoria Lee Forsythe Grimes
ODESSA - Victoria Lee Forsythe Grimes, age 43, of Odessa died Sunday, March 11, 2001, at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. She was born July 16, 1957, in Fort Benning, Ga., to David and Elsie Forsythe.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 15, 2001, at Westminster Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Cheryl Homsher officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Victoria had lived in eastern Pennsylvania, Ethiopia, Fort Benning, Ga., and Fort Ord, Calif., settling in Odessa in 1974. She graduated from Permian High School in 1975, attended Texas Tech, graduated with a bachelor of arts in English and art at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin and earned a master’s in education and counseling from Sul Ross University. She married
Jesse Taylor Grimes IV Jan. 9, 1982, in Summerfield. They raised their family in Odessa. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was an art teacher at Crockett Junior High and then was a counselor at Bonham and Nimitz Junior Highs and Ross Elementary.
She loved art and life. She was a loving, devoted sister, daughter and mother to her daughters. She became a compassionate caregiver to others with cancer. She was a great friend to all that knew her. She will be missed by all.
She is survived by her daughters, Tiffany and Taylor Grimes of Odessa; parents, LTC. David and Janice Forsythe of Odessa; and sister, Belle Routh Hicks of Odessa.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church.

Patricia Manns Scagno
FORT WORTH - Patricia Manns Scagno passed away Saturday, March 24, 2001, at Arlington Memorial Hospital after a long illness.
Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2001, at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. Burial will be at Moore Memorial Gardens. Rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Moore Funeral Home Chapel.
She was born in Odessa Sept. 6, 1952. Patricia was a graduate of Permian High School. She was a 10-year resident of Arlington and was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church.
She is survived by her father, Malcolm R. Manns; three daughters, Jessica, Leslie and Jennifer Scagno, all of Arlington; and a sister, Nancy M. Scott of Grand Saline.
Kay Elizabeth (Brents) Bruce
CRANE - Kay Elizabeth (Brents) Bruce, born Dec. 15, 1946, in Electra, passed from this life Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001. Crane was Kay’s home for most of her life. She presently resided in Aubrey. She had many friends who loved her in both places.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at the Tabernacle Baptist Church with the Rev. Lyndel Lee and Brother Bob Petree officiating. Burial will follow at the Crane County cemetery with services under the direction of Shaffer-Nichols Funeral Home of Crane.
Kay was known to her family and friends as a loving, giving and hard working individual who loved God and her family. She helped start several businesses and ran them successfully. One of her greatest satisfactions was to help those in need.
She was preceded in death by her father, George Bullard Sr. in 1991.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Baker and her husband Doug of Sherman and Georgianna Blue and her husband Billy of Crane; a son, James Dwight Brents Jr. of Crane; her mother, Edith Bullard of San Angelo; a brother, George D. Bullard Jr. of San Angelo; two sisters, Anne Reed of Sherman and Jencie Edwards of Crane; seven grandchildren, Robin Baker, Shivonne Baker, Daniel Baker, Morgan Blue, Thomas Blue, Max Brents and Jacob Brents; and a great-grandchild, Caleb Hubbard.
