E.W. ‘Buddy’ Anguish Jr.

MIDLAND - E.W. "Buddy" Anguish Jr., a Midland independent oil operator, philanthropist and supporter of the arts and human services in the community, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at his home following an illness. He was 71.

Memorial services are to be conducted at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 4, 2001, at First Presbyterian Church in Midland with the Rev. Dick Braun, associate pastor, and the Rev. Ray Riddle, pastor emeritus, officiating.

Anguish, who was born Jan. 26, 1929, in Midland, was a geologist by academic training. He was married to Nancy Rodman on Oct. 16, 1977, in Midland.

Anguish was married to Agnes Amelung from 1951 to 1971. He served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.

Organizations and charities supported by Buddy and Nancy Anguish include the Midland Community Theatre, Confederate Air Force and American Airpower Heritage Museum, Museum of the Southwest, Arts Assembly of Midland, Scheiner College, Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale, Case De Amigos, Midland Memorial Hospital, Midland College, High Sky Children’s Ranch and the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum, Library and Hall of Fame.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy Anguish; a son, Steven Anguish of Phoenix, Ariz.; three daughters, Lynn Anguish of Midland, Margaret Anguish Cobb and her husband, Robert Cobb, of Paris, Texas, and Ellen Anguish Pacic and her husband, Jimmy Pacic, of Dallas; a stepson, John Rodman Steele and his wife, Dina, of Dallas; five grandchildren, Sam, Gibson and Rachel Cobb and Rodman Jr. and Faye Steele.

Memorials may be directed to the Permian Basin Area Foundation, P.O. Box 10424, Midland, Texas, 79701, or to the donors’ favorite charity or charities.

Velma M. Hall

DALLAS - Velma M. Hall was born June 22, 1913, and passed away Dec. 31, 2000.

Mrs. Hall and her husband Cecil lived in the Odessa and Andrews areas from the 1940s until moving to California in 1965. Then in 1973, they moved to Traverse City, Mich., to be with their daughter and her family, Sandra and Larry Kinney. They lived in Traverse City until 1978 when they moved to Rowlett on Lake Ray Hubbard for their retirement years. Mr. Hall passed away in 1994 and Velma moved back to Michigan, then to Las Vegas with her daughter Sandra and her family in 1995. They were all in Las Vegas at the time of her death. Mrs. Hall had been ill for about six months.

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Kinney and her husband Larry of Las Vegas; three grandchildren, Randy Kinney and wife Susan of Traverse City, Terri Kinney of Las Vegas and Cindy Kinney of Studio City, Calif.; two great-grandchildren, Kaylena Kinney and Joey Kinney of Traverse City; two sisters, Mrs. Maudie Martin and Mrs. Maxine Parrish, both of Odessa; and many nieces and nephews in Texas and California.

Services will be at noon Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at Restland Abbey Chapel. Interment to follow at Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11:30 a.m. until noon Friday at Restland Abbey Chapel.

Olivia Campos Luna

ODESSA - Olivia Campos Luna, 67, of Odessa, beloved sister, mother and grandmother, went home to our Savior on Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.

Mrs. Luna was born April 26, 1933, in Marfa to Leonarda and Francisco Campos. She married Marcus Luna on Aug. 19, 1952. She was a homemaker and former employee of the nursery of Temple Baptist Church. She retired from Temple Baptist after 25 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter, a sister and a brother.

She is survived by two sons, Angel Luna and wife Linda of El Paso and Jose Alonzo Luna of Odessa; daughters, Rosa Linda Lopez and husband Greg, Norma Marquez and JoAnn Chabarria, all of Odessa; three brothers, D.B. Campos of El Paso, Mario Campos of Rosenburg and Joe Campos of Odessa; five sisters, Anita Gonzales of San Antonio, Nina Alvarez, Janie Tapia, Josie Ramos and Margie Ramirez, all of Odessa; 24 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Johnny Thomason officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill cemetery.

Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.

Emmitt L. "Curley" Owens

AMARILLO - Emmitt L. "Curley" Owens, 74, of Amarillo died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, in Amarillo.

Services were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2000, at Rector Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Freddie Richardson, pastor of Souls Harbor Church, officiating. Burial will be at Llano East cemetery. Arrangements by Rector Funeral Home.

Mr. Owens was born in Wellington. He moved to Amarillo in 1963 from Hobbs, N.M. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He owned and operated several service stations in Amarillo. He married Gloria Winn Stone in 1982 in Amarillo.

Survivors include his wife of the home; daughters, Marilynn Sue, Lana Kay, Wanda, Elizabeth, Linda Sue, Billie and Mary; sons, Irvin Neal, Donald Ray and Mairon Lee; adopted sons, John and Tommy; four stepdaughters and a stepson; five sisters, Lillie Perryman of Odessa, Dorothy Owens of Hobbs, Linda Riley of Kiowa, Okla., Lela Surginer of Burleson and Lois Smith of Odessa; many grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

Francis Ryan Jr.

MARFA - Francis H. “Pat” Ryan Jr., 73, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, died Friday, Dec. 22, 2000, at an Alpine hospital.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church. Arrangements by Memorial Funeral Home.

He was born in Pecos. He was a publisher and editor of the Big Bend Sentinel and Marfa Independent for 30 years. He was Episcopalian.

SURVIVORS: Son, John Patrick of Bryan and Kevin Ryan of Lubbock, Michael Ryan, of Terlingua; daughters, Kathleen Myrtle of Grove, La., Allison Scott of Marfa, Martha Stafford of Livingston, Mont.; brother, John Ryan of Belleville; and 11 grandchildren.

Jerry Coomer

McCAMEY - Jerry H. Coomer, 79, of McCamey, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, at his home.

MIDLAND - Leslie B. Fumbrough, 70, of Odessa, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000.

ANDREWS - Ruth M. Hatcher, 79, of Andrews, died Dec. 23, 2000, in Andrews.

ODESSA - Vera Weddle, 90, of Odessa, died Saturday, Dec. 23, 2000, in Odessa.

Lorene Cavitt

MONAHANS - Lorene Cavitt, 74, of Monahans, a retired waitress, died Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at Ward Memorial Hospital in Monahans.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Monahans Memorial cemetery with the Rev. Gordon Cox officiating. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home.

She had been a resident of Monahans since 1991. She was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Four grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Elvie Clemmer

MONAHANS - Elvie "E.L." Clemmer, 88, of Monahans, a retired pumper, died Sunday, Nov. 12, 2000, at his residence.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church with the Revs. Jeff Box and H.B. Terry officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Clyde cemetery in Clyde. Arrangements by Harkey Funeral Home.

He was born in Calahan County and had been a resident of Monahans since 1972. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Chera Clemmer of Monahans; son, Lloyd Leslie Clemmer of Monahans; daughters, Elva Cortez Murphy of Winchester and Myrna Maureen Nelson of Arlington; brothers, Floyd Clemmer and Cloice Clemmer, both of Abilene, and Don Clemmer of Andrews; sisters, Nita Boyd of Houston and Jo Gabbard of Abilene; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Leo Day Sr.

SPUR - Leo Day Sr., 80, of Spur, a retired lumberyard owner, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Crescent Care Center in Spur.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Richard Harbison officiating. Burial will be at Spur Memorial cemetery. Arrangements by Campbell Funeral Home.

He was born in Avery County and had been a resident of Spur since 1959. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was Baptist.

SURVIVORS: Wife, Frances Attaway Day of Spur; sons, Ronald Day of McKinney, Donald Day of Plano and Leo Day Jr. of Spur; daughters, Mary Lou Ashley of Odessa and Peggy Swaringen of Spur; brothers, Clarence Wilburn "Mutt" Day of Odessa and Horace Day of Andrews; sisters, Bertha Marsh and Ruby Groves, both of Brownfield, and Wanda Linderman of Portales, N.M.; 21 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
