Charlotte Roscoe Riley

TYLER - Charlotte Roscoe Riley, 87, died Sunday, Feb. 25, 2001, at Mother Frances Hospital in Tyler after a brief illness.

The graveside rites will be held at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 27, 2001, at Rose Hill cemetery, and a memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. at the Emerald Bay Community Church on Lake Palestine with Dr. Leonard Molone officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Lloyd-James Funeral Home in Tyler.

Charlotte Riley was born Jan. 24, 1914, in Marshall to Sam and Beulah Lindsay. She graduated from Marshall High School and attended East Texas Baptist College. She married Thomas Grayson Roscoe on Dec. 31, 1933. They lived in Kilgore where their daughter, Pat, was born. After living in Louisiana and Florida, they settled in Odessa where, in 1951, she founded Kiddie Kollege, a music-oriented kindergarten that developed into a comprehensive school. She was able to use her considerable musical talents to develop a love of music in her students. Her teaching years were among some of the happiest of her life. During these years, she belonged to the Odessa Federation Study Club and the Honorary Mothers Club, serving as president of both organizations.

After their retirement, Charlotte and Grayson moved to Emerald Bay. They had many wonderful years there. Charlotte was instrumental in starting the Emerald Bay Community Church and was a charter member and former president of the Emerald Bay Women’s Club. She served as president of the Perennial Garden Club in Tyler and was a former member of the Tyler Women’s Club and the Tyler Women’s Symphony League. She belonged to several bridge clubs and a "42" club. She loved being with friends in these groups. She also belonged to the First Baptist Church of Tyler as well as the Emerald Bay Church.

In 1978, her husband, Grayson Roscoe, preceded Charlotte in death. Later, in 1985, she married Floyd Riley. He preceded her in death in 1994.

She is survived by her daughter, Pat Hankins and husband Kenneth of Odessa, and grandchildren, Ken Hankins Jr. and wife Ann of Midland and their sons Tripp and Porter, Ann Hankins Kennedy and husband Glenn of Odessa and their children Travis, Elizabeth and Kyle, and Grayson Hankins and wife Leslie of Odessa and their children Madison, Garrett and Grant. She is also survived by three brothers and three sisters, Dick Lindsay and wife Mary of Tyler, Sam Lindsay and wife Betty of Marshall, Walter Lindsay and wife Carolyn of Marshall, Sammie Cadenhead of Marshall, Josie Griffis and husband Juble of Marshall, Texie Morris and husband Tommy of St. Louis, Mo., and many much loved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice House Foundation of Odessa, 903 N. Sam Houston Ave., Odessa, Texas 79761, or Emerald Bay Community Church, 160 LaSalle, Bullard, Texas, 75757.

Charles P. Aishman

KINGSLAND - Charles P. Aishman, 90, of Kingsland died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, in Austin.

Mr. Aishman was born July 25, 1910, in De Leon. He married Iris Morse on Aug. 23, 1937, in Corpus Christi. He retired as a station engineer for Gulf Oil Co. after 30 years of service. Mr. Aishman moved to Kingsland in 1975, coming from Odessa, where he lived from 1941 to 1975. He was a member of the Kingsland Community Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Aishman and Linnie Wheat Aishman; a daughter, Gailya Jean Harris in 1990; two brothers, Loys and Weaver Aishman; and a sister, Ethel Keith.

He is survived by his wife, Iris Aishman of Kingsland; sons, Gary Aishman of Phoenix and Don Aishman of Wimberly; son-in-law, Ed Harris Jr. of Friendswood; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 14, 2001, at the Kingsland Community Church with the Rev. George Belford officiating. Burial will be at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park in Burnet County.

Pallbearers will be Gary Aishman, Don Aishman, Shawn Aishman, Hunter Harris, Chad Harris, Rodney Harris, Joey Hamby and Ed Harris.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kingsland Community Church or the charity of your choice.

Joann McIntosh

ODESSA - Joann McIntosh, 67 years of age, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001, in Odessa surrounded by her family and dear friends.

She was born July 21, 1933, in Coleman and married Jack Hooker McIntosh on Sept. 20, 1952, in Odessa.

She began a banking career at American Bank of Commerce in 1959 as a secretary and worked her way up to a loan officer position that covered a span of 20 plus years. She helped a lot of young Odessans with her kindness and knowledge.

Her interests were her family and friends that she always stood by with a loyalty that will be missed.

Mother left us with the same dignity, grace and unselfishness that carried her through her life and career. She was the bond that held all of us together through good and bad times.

She was preceded in death by her parents, W.S. and Robbie Riley; brothers, W.S., Dave and Dewey; and her sister, Jean Sinclair.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; son, T and his wife Karla; daughter, Cindy Freeman; grandchildren, Ben, Bailey and Shan; brothers, Stan Riley of Houston and Don Riley of Hutto; and many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Her memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Lutheran Church of the Risen Lord with the Revs. Preston Weatherly, James Otterness and Bob Burton officiating. Pallbearers will be her nephews and Ricky Minyen.

Winnie Patton

ODESSA - Winnie Patton, 78, joined her Lord and Savior on Monday, Feb. 12, 2001. She passed away at Medical Center Hospital after a massive heart attack Friday evening.

Winnie was born Sept. 2, 1922, in Wills Point to Beulah Mae Hill and Frank Moore, who predeceased her. Winnie had been an active Southern Baptist, serving her Lord since she was baptized Nov. 10, 1950. She was known among her family and friends as the "world’s greatest cook."

She is survived by her loving husband and life partner of 25 years, Jim Patton of Odessa; two daughters, Rita Mikel of Odessa and Cindie Kimbrow of Houston; three grandchildren, Tosh and Noelle Ingram of Houston and Marc Mikel and wife Lisa, parents of her two great-grandchildren, Kali and Cole Mikel of Denton; a sister, Lorene Ford of Wickett; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Other survivors include her stepchildren, Barbara Patton of Odessa, Mel Patton of Newport Beach, Calif., Ken Patton of Amarillo and Van Patton of Ruidoso, N.M., and step grandchildren, Doiley Harris and Bonner Patton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Feb. 14, 2001, at First Baptist Church. Graveside services will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens under the direction of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Lora A. Brightwell

Lora A. Brightwell, age 75 of Odessa, passed away at Medical Center Hospital on Friday, Feb. 23, 2001.

Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 27, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jim Ray Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Family visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, 2001, at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Lora was born on May 24, 1925, in Minard to Roy and Gertrude Balch Brown. She married Gale Brightwell on July 17, 1953, in Carlsbad, N.M. They came to Odessa shortly after their marriage.

She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and embroidery. She had operated a daycare in her home for many years. She was a member of West Side Christian Church.

Survivors include her children, Debbie McNiel of Lindale, Chris Frasier of Odessa, Jimmy Brightwell and wife Diana, of Midland, Cindy Shrum and Sue Rogers, both of Odessa; 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; brothers, Ray Brown and his wife, Shirley, of Iraan; Clifford Brown of Fort Worth; sister, Faye Yoakum and husband, Yogie, of Houston; close friends, Clara Robinson and Donna Everhart.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Gertrude Brown, and by her husband, Gale Brightwell.

Memorials can be made to the American Lung Association.

Services are entrusted to Sunset Memorial Funeral Home.

Mary Louise Gilmour

BIG SPRING - Mary Louise Gilmour, 85, passed away Tuesday, April 3, 2001, at Seabury Center in Odessa where she had been a resident for more than 16 years.

Mary was born to Frances and William Gilmour March 20, 1916, in Big Spring. She attended public schools in Big Spring, graduating in 1933 with honors. She was a member of the National Honor Society and the pep squad. Mary joined the Order of the Eastern Star at age 18 in Big Spring and was active in Order of the Eastern Star in Odessa for many years. Mary worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone and for several years, she worked as a Girl Scout executive. She worked in the accounting department for Shell Oil Co. in Midland and for Texas Electric Service Co. in Big Spring.

Mary attended college in later years, receiving a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in 1953 from the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated with honors. She earned a Master of Business Administration Degree from Texas Tech University in Lubbock in 1956 and did additional graduate work in Colorado and Wyoming.

Mary moved to Odessa where she taught accounting for 22 years at Odessa College. Ms. Gilmour was a member of the Business and Professional Women’s Association, was past president of the American Association of University Women and in 1985 was awarded a Certificate of Honor for Outstanding Service by the local chapter. She was also a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority and the Retired Teachers Association and was very active in Odessa civic and social activities.

Mary was a member of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Odessa since 1956. She was active in St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Big Spring for 30 years.

Graveside funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 9, 2001, at Mt. Olive Memorial Park in Big Spring with the Rev. Jim Liggett, rector of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Big Spring, officiating. A memorial service will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Odessa at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2001, with the Rev. Michael Jasper, rector, officiating. Assisting will be Judy Cobb, deacon.

Mary is survived by a cousin, Erma L. Thompson of Williamsville, N.Y.; her longtime caregiver, Dorothy Presley; and by many friends.

Special thanks are given to the staff and attendants at Seabury Center for their loving care of Mary these past 16 years and to the Home Hospice staff and nurses for their loving care and consolation.

Also, we are grateful for the dedication of the Lay Visitors of St. Barnabas and St. John’s Episcopal Church, who were faithful in their support.

In lieu of flowers, it is suggested that memorials be made to the Building Fund of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 4141 Tanglewood Lane, Odessa, Texas, 79762-7224.

Clyde Emory Bush

ODESSA - Clyde Emory Bush, 88, of Odessa died Thursday, Feb. 15, 2001, at Medical Center Hospital.

He was born Oct. 19, 1912, in Taylor County and moved to Odessa from San Saba County in 1933. He married Mayble Foster in the early 30s, and she passed away in 1985. He then married Mildred Ramsey in 1987. Mr. Bush retired in 1979 from the Ector County Highway Department as a heavy equipment operator and superintendent. He was a Baptist and loved his yard work.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred of Andrews; son, A.C. "Bud" Bush and his wife, Frances, of Odessa; grandson, Shane Webb of Odessa; and granddaughters, Angela Hughes of Odessa, Teena Bitner of Haskell, Linda Martin of Odessa, Angela Harrison of Pecos and Sharlene Weaver of Odessa. He is also survived by brothers, Glenn Bush and Sam Bush of Brownwood and 10 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors and funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001, at the chapel of Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors with the Rev. Mike Bartlett officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Arrangements are by Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.
